What are the three things you learned while writing Of Good And Evil?

I learned about intricacies of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, all the pre-planning and planning and practice runs, the key individuals involved, all merging into the final plan masterminded by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed; the blunders of politicians and agency bureaucrats to prevent the attacks because of asinine walls set up between agencies preventing them from sharing vital terrorist information with one another; the insidious
dereliction of politicians and agency bureaucrats incapable of taking correct action in response to warnings leading up to the 9/11 attacks, these warnings — the foreboding of the previous failed attempt on the World Trade Center, bombings of our embassies in Africa , attacks on U.S. military property in theMiddle East and Somalia — ignored or dismissed or mishandled; the utter ignorance and ineptitude of politicians and agency bureaucrats to understand the full scope and threat of Al Qaeda, and its true mind set and intent.

I learned about Iraq, what led up to it, what happened during the war, the role of Al Qaeda in it;  from the fall of Saddam Hussein, to the hell of IEDs, to the insurgency efforts of Bin Laden’s operative Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi who reported to Ayman Al-Zawahiri second  in command to Bin Laden, to the U.S. Army’s First Infantry Division finally cleaning up the resurgent terrorists once and for all in the hotbed city of Fallujah and preventing civil war, to the Iraqi people finally holding up their purple-inked voting fingers proudly as they elected a new Iraqi interim parliament; all the while, during the war, the America and Western Media undermined America’s war efforts with incomplete or misleading reports, mostly from the comfort of their Baghdad hotels while people were being beheaded, civilians were being slaughtered by insurgents, and American and coalition soldiers were dying unpleasantly in the field.

I learned about the suffering of those who had lost loved ones in Iraq and how love, family and friendship provided solace in helping them to recover; connected with this, I learned about military service members returning from the battles of Iraq and Afghanistan, many scarred and shattered in limb, but at home still displaying valor and exuding true nobility in serving their country. And connected, too, with this learning, combined with my passion, I was inspired again to learn the dedication and discipline to write this novel.

I Must Stand Up for Myself More…’ promises Maggie Storm who spends her days cleaning houses for people who often have more money than manners.  Married to a man with as much sex appeal as Mr Blobby, she dreams of a life straight from the pages of a romantic novel.

‘My Head Must Rule Over My Heart…’ promises Ella Moore who, determined never to let her heart get the better of her again, is recovering from seven wasted years of failing to win over the daughter of the man with whom she wanted to spend the rest of her life.

‘No More Women…’ promises Ethan Edwards who, to distract himself from the depressing sham of his marriage, is a repeat offender when it comes to turning to other women for sexual consolation.  But when Ella appears unexpectedly in his life, he finds himself turning to her for very different reasons.

Bestseller Erica James weaves a delightful tale of three people daring to change their lives.

MBA: Tell our readers about yourself?

CARA:  My first book was a Western . .  . I wrote it when I was five, and my mother actually preserved it for posterity. It has lots of colored illustrations of horses and cowboys (I still love Men in Boots) so it’s I guess it’s no surprise that I majored in art at college These days I write about Regency England, a time period I fell in love with the moment I started reading Pride and Prejudice.

MBA: Cara, how do you feel Regency historical romance has changed through the years? If you feel it has.

CARA: That’s an interesting question! I think Regency historicals keep evolving in subtle ways to meet the tastes of modern readers. But one of the things I find wonderful is that many of the core elements that make Jane Austen’s books so universally appealing, like witty dialogue, strong woman, and great relationships, are really strong in the genre right now.

MBA: What do you think makes readers so enchanted with Regency England and historicals?

CARA: There are a lot of similarities between our world and the Regency world—the things like the art, the architecture and the basic customs all feel familiar to readers. And yet the elegant ballrooms, the fancy fashions and glittering jewels all add a fairytale aspect to the stories, was gives a fun element of escape. Hey, we all love to be swept away from reality for a few hours!

MBA:  Can you give our readers any tidbits on your future project(s)?

CARA: TOO WICKED TO WED is the start of a new series, so there will be two more books, featuring the “Wolfhound’s” sexy, dashing friends.

Gryff’s story is next . . . and he, too, encounters an intrepid young lady in a very unexpected place!

MBA: Tell our readers where to find you and where your books are available?

CARA: My website is, and readers can find all sorts of fun background on my books, as well as contests and other info. I also blog at The Word Wenches with seven other fabulous historical romance writers. (

MBA: Tell us about yourself?

LILLI: Me? I admit I have a hard time answering this question. For example, I was recently attempting to fill out a profile on a dating website and I had a really hard time. I thought it might be fun and different to post it here.

Like Scheherazade, I’m always looking for a good story.Luckily I find them every day right here in Reno. One of the many reasons I love this town. I’m honest-to a fault, or so I’ve been told. I’m very independent. I am working hard to live fully in the moment because that’s all we have. I am loyal and a good friend. I don’t hold back. I’m an open book, but written in another language. I’m also sarcastic, and often snarky. I can take
shit, and I can give it back. I laugh a lot. I am pretty ridiculous. I have a six-year-old son. He’s cuter than a puppy. Smarter, too. My kid is my sunshine.

My likes? Camping, riding my bike around town, music of all sorts, chocolate cake, pizza, picnics, the park, procrastinating, cocktails, and books. I spent 17 days in the desert for Burning Man and I did it all on my
own. I’m a redhead with a temper to match. I fly off the handle when I’m pissed. I cuss like a sailor.

I’m really good at: Creating ridiculous situations, drinking White Russians, and falling down gracefully

What do people notice about me?

I’ve been told my walk is “a noticeable combination between a jungle cat and a half-drunk Valkyrie, prowling Valhalla and looking to score.” (I’m not quite sure what to make of that.)

Okaay. So I guess that kinds of sums me up. I also spend a lot of time lounging in my sweatpants, eating popcorn and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer but I didn’t put that in my profile. I also didn’t mention the
fact that I’m horrible with math, I hate doing dishes, I have perpetual issues with cars,

MBA: What do you feel is the attraction to romance for readers?

LILLI: I think the attraction to romance is always the story and how love plays into the story. Of all the emotions, love is simply the best. I don’t believe anyone can have too much love, be it on a personal level or the experiences we choose to create for ourselves. 90% of all books and movies have a love story. We love Han Solo and Princess Leia, Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy, Ross and Rachel from Friends, Harry and Sally, Harold and
Maude—we want to watch them fall in love because love is amazing. Can you imagine a world without love? That would suck. I believe romance readers are people who love love in their lives. Romance novels are full of love, guaranteed, and I don’t think anyone can have too much love in life.

MBA: What type of heroes do I enjoy?

LILLI:  I am always drawn to the witty bad boy hero. He always has a devilish smirk, he’s usually battling within himself because he’s a bit selfish, and he always comes through. He likes strong women even if they infuriate him. I also like heroes that kick ass. Bruce Willis often plays this type of character.

MBA: Tell our readers a little about yourself?

GG: I’m one of those lucky people who can live wherever she wants, love who she wants, hate
who she wants, and always learns things about herself she never knew.  I am a writer.  Since I was small and lived in a dysfunctional family with a lot of shouting and abuse going on, I have dissociated and lived in alternate realities.  I made up new ones almost every night as I lay in bed waiting for sleep.  I also used newsprint-paper scrapbooks to draw and eventually write my stories.

When I was a grown up I went to live in Austria with my university group from Stanford.  I learned things that most people don’t know about that amazing country that used to be the cultural, scientific, and artistic center of the Western world. Never thinking it might be too ambitious a project, I began a novel when I was 27.  I’m very, very aware of my weaknesses, and so I kept rewriting and rewriting, and finally published it 40 years later in 2009.  The Last Waltz, a novel of Love and War won the Whitney Award for best historical fiction for that year.

While I was fermenting that book, I wrote a light mystery series about two wacky genealogists–The Alex and Briggie series, beginning with Cankered Roots.  The sixth volume of that series is slated to come out early next year: Renaissance Roots, set in my favorite place in the world–Florence, Italy.  Which brings me to my latest release, The Only Way to Paradise, a women’s fiction/romance that I wrote over a three year period with three trips to Florence.  That book taught me one of the great lessons of life that I learned from the Italian people–agape or selfless love.  For my four heroines, agape is the balm that eases their troubles, helping them to find the road in life that they should be traveling in order to find Paradise.

GG: PERSONAL DETAILS:  I am a wife of 39 years, a mother of three children, and a grandmother
of two delightful little boys who are my sunshine.  I worked in finance for 5 years before I was
married and while I was putting my husband through law school.  I have sporadically taught college.  I am a self-professed veteran of mental illness, having arrived at a healing plateau after 25 years of bi-polar
disorder and 54 years of PTSD. I write and speak about mental health issues. I have lived in So. Cal., No. Cal, Boston, D.C., Chicago, The Missouri Ozarks, Oakwood, Ohio, and now Provo, Utah on the bench of the Wasatch mountains, 17 minutes from Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort.

MBA: When you are not writing what is your favorite thing to do or place to go?

GG: My favorite place to go is Florence. I always learn something new from the Renaissance artists, but mostly I love to go because of the Florentines. I have a “family” there that I miss terribly.

My favorite thing to do is to play with my grandchildren Jack 5, Micah 1.  I am looking forward to bonding more with Micah (they live in CA), but Jack and I are best friends and have many traditions such as an entire tent protocol, a bedtime protocol, games we’ve played since he was a baby, and new craft projects every time we’re together (I send a box ahead of me).  For reasons unknown, Jack wanted to give his mother a statue of Abraham Lincoln for Mother’s Day. We are gearing up to do Skype, and I anticipate daily visits.

MBA: Tell our readers a few tidbits on your upcoming project(s)?

GG: Writing Paradise took me through an emotional wringer, so I am writing something I never have before–a Regency Romance.  It will certainly be a change.  I love the wit and romance of Jane Austen, and while I can never hope to meet her standard, I find it delightful to try.  The book(Misunderstood) is actually based on my life–the obligatory Rogue being played by my husband, and the complications provided by three ex-fiances–one dead, one crazy, and one intractable.  After that will come my new Alex and Briggie mystery Renaissance Roots.  I have several books I want to write afterwards, but my travel schedule (and funds) will determine which comes first–there are three sequels due for Paradise–the first one being a time-travel back to the Florence of the Medici, the second will unfold on a Cruise through the Med.  The third?  Then there are the
much demanded two sequels to Waltz for which I must make research trips to Provence and Poland.

MBA:  Now,with the holidays quickly approaching, what is your favorite holiday(Halloween,Thanksgiving or Christmas) and why?

GG: Since the kids have grown and left, Halloween has lost its glamour and hardly anyone comes to our mountain home for trick or treat.  My unmarried sons have finally admitted they don’t like turkey, so we
enjoy steak on Thanksgiving!  But Christmas still maintains an evolving set of traditions that bind our family
and bring us joy. Now, Jack is thrilled with his Joseph costume, and of course, pending any future arrival of a granddaughter, I serve as Mary, and Micah is a somewhat reluctant Baby Jesus. In addition to our pageant, we have an international buffet on Christmas Eve, as well, and put together the latest puzzle that I have bought in Italy–this year the ceiling of the Sistene Chapel.

MBA:  How do you relax after a long day of deadlines, family and overall daily life?

GG: Ever since installing our Home Theater two years ago, I have started watching TV.  I get up at 5 am so I am usually too tired for more than one show, but thank heavens for Tivo, there is always something to watch.  My choices will probably surprise you: 1.) Bones, 2.) Blue Bloods, 3.) The Mentalist, 4.) NCIS, 5.) Persons of Interest.  My favorite all-time movie is the BBC series North and South starring Richard Armitage (it
gives me goosebumps just to recall the final scene).  I enjoy reading the classics, clean romance, cozy mysteries, and women’s fiction, but normally only get a few pages read per night before I fall asleep at about 9:00 from sheer exhaustion. It is very important for me to start every day by reading a chapter of scripture.

MBA: Tell our readers where to find you and where your book are available?

GG: All my books are online at Amazon.  Some of the newer ones are still in bookstores, but you can always find all my works on Amazon and some on B &  The ones on Amazon are available for Kindle and in trade paperback.  We are in the process of changing all 12 books to our own imprint, so Waltz, Cankered, Arthurian Omen (Suspense), and Paradise (the ones on this tour) all have newly designed covers as well as much lower prices.  Be certain to compare prices, because we share non-exclusive rights with my publisher, who charges more.

Of Deadly Descent, the 2nd Alex and Briggie should be up soon, and Tangled Roots is awaiting its new cover.  Poisoned Pedigree is currently being scanned, and after that will be Hidden Branch. That  will conclude the conversion of all Alex and Briggie books to our version and price.  We hope to offer a nice discount
during December to those who choose to buy all five for Christmas.  During the tour, there will be a premium
gift: a signed bookplate for each book you buy, as well as your choice of our professional photos of Florence and Tuscany in a 5 x7 print. (See

We are also planning to have a store on Zazzle that will have Alex and Briggie memorabilia: aprons (I’m a genealogist not a chef), mugs and tee-shirts (I have to take risks! I’m a genealogist, not an accountant.) available for purchase for the genealogist in your family.

That leaves Voices In Your Blood: Discovering Identity Through Family History which is being updated by my co-author, Michael Young, and will appear on line next year. First editions are always available used on Amazon or Alibris. Deliverance from Depression is available on Amazon, along with my two other newest fiction books, still under publisher’s contract: Pieces of Paris, and Foggy,With a Chance of Murder.

Thank you so much for featuring my work on your blog!

A romantic historical epic, the award-winning The Last Waltz: A Novel of Love and War begins with the glittering life of Amalia Faulhaber, socialite, nurse, and finally baroness.  Amalia is immersed in four phases of Austrian history:  the restless energy that proves to be the last days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1914. She survives its destruction and dissolution. Through her husband she is deeply involved in its attempt at democracy and eventual descent into fascism. A brilliant heroine, Amalia is a light in the lives of the men who love her—a Prussian officer, a Polish doctor and patriot, and the solid, influential Baron von Schoenenburg.  Politically inclined herself, her vastly differing romances follow the fate of her suitors and the part they are destined to play in history.

A VISIT AND GIVEAWAY with GILLIAN BAGWELL,author of “The September Queen”..

From the author’s website:

:- Biography -:-

Gillian Bagwell grew up in Berkeley, California, and began her professional life as an actress, studying at
the University of California Berkeley and the Drama Studio London at Berkeley before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television. She moved into directing and producing theatre, founding The Pasadena Shakespeare Company, where she served as artistic director for nine years, producing thirty-seven critically acclaimed productions.

She united her life-long love of books, British history, and theatre in writing her first novel, The Darling Strumpet, based on the life of Nell Gwynn. Her second novel, The September Queen, is the first fictional account of the perilous and romantic odyssey of Jane Lane, an ordinary English girl who risked her life to help the young Charles II escape after the disastrous Battle of Worcester in 1651 by disguising him as her servant. Gillian recently returned to Berkeley and is at work on her third novel, about the formidable four-times widowed Tudor dynast Bess of Hardwick.

                                                                                                                           (Charles 1651 Engraving)

Jane Lane and the Royal Miracle

The defeat of Charles II by Cromwell’s forces at the Battle of Worcester on September 3, 1651 set off one
of the most astonishing episodes in British history – Charles’s desperate six-week odyssey to reach safety in France, which came to be known as the Royal Miracle because he narrowly escaped discovery and capture so many times.

Charles and his ragged and outnumbered army knew that all their hopes rested on the outcome of the
day.  Their bloody rout ended the Royalist cause.  Once Charles had been convinced that the best he could do was survive, he fled as his supporters made a last ferocious stand, and legendarily dashed out the back door of his lodgings as the enemy entered at the front, slipping out the last unguarded city gate.

From that disastrous night until he finally sailed from Shoreham near Brighton on October 15, he was on
the run, sheltered and helped by dozens of people – mostly simple country folk and very minor gentry – who could have earned the enormous reward of £1000 offered for his capture, but instead put their lives in jeopardy to help him.

For most of the time Charles was traveling, he was riding with a woman, and disguised as a servant.  It was an improbable scheme.  He was a noticeable man, six feet two and very dark, yet time after time he rode right under the noses of Cromwell’s soldiers without being recognized.

  (Jane Lane, Charles, and Lascelles)

He was in grave danger of capture and death throughout his 600-mile journey (which can be recreated
by following the Monarch’s Way footpath), but the experience was strongly formative.  After his restoration to the throne he told the story frequently for the rest of his life, and the hardships he endured gave
him an understanding of the common people such as no other king had had.  If he hadn’t escaped, England’s history would likely have come out quite differently.

Gillian Bagwell’s novel The September Queen, the first fictional account of Jane Lane, an ordinary Staffordshire girl who risked her life to help the young Charles II escape after the Battle of Worcester, was
released on November 1.  Please visit her website,, to read more about her books and read her blog Jane Lane and the Royal Miracle, which recounts her research adventures and the daily episodes in Charles’s flight to freedom.

I avoided watching that recent video about the Chinese toddler who was the victim of a hit and run,  but an article I read about it really moved me.The author, a writer for Worldcrunch, said, “People do not dare give out their love because of fear. Yet they forget that the most powerful weapon for conquering fear is love.  Love is courage itself.” This is so true.

ENTICE ME by Lucianne Rivers

Heartsick over the untimely death of her mother, Allison Caldwell is blindsided again by the secret revealed in her mom’s will. Her supposedly dead father is alive, and she and her two sisters must find him in order
to settle the Caldwell estate.

Robert Rivera, private investigator and former Navy SEAL, alerts Allison to new intel identifying her father as a P.O.W. in Afghanistan. With her sisters out of the country pursuing leads, Allison insists on heading to
the war-ravaged country to find him. Robert doesn’t want his naïve client to take the risk. He knows what danger lays in that godforsaken land…he’s lived through it. Barely.

But Allison is determined to go, and Robert can’t let her travel alone. Reluctantly appreciative, Allison quickly realizes how much she needs his guidance and protection, and how deeply she longs for his love. Robert
struggles to understand her effect on his battle-weary heart.

The path to Allison’s father is blocked by terrorists, traps and treachery—all demons of Robert’s past. Can he survive a second round with the enemy and keep Allison out of harm’s way?
