Book Description (From Amazon.com)

His name is Rafer Callahan. He was a kid from the wrong side of the tracks who fought through life the only way he knew how: with his fists. But Rafer never meant to bring any harm to Cambria Flannigan, the girl—the lover—whose sister he’d been unable to save…

Cami lost her sister in the brutal murders that rocked her hometown so many years ago. Some still believe that Rafe, along with his friends Logan and Crowe, were involved. But how could Rafe—who haunted her girlish dreams, then her adult fantasies—be a killer? That is the question that keeps her up at night.

Now a prosperous ranch owner, Rafe is trying to build a new legacy for himself. It’s finally time to settle the score with Cami—and make her his. But old wounds open up with a series of new murders…and each of the victims has a connection to Rafe, Logan, and Crowe. With suspicion, fear, and loyalty tearing her apart, Cami is once again at risk of losing her heart—or her life.

My Thoughts

Midnight Sins by Lora Leigh was not what I expected. I received one of her books about a year ago from another review sight and loved it, but this book, not so much. I’m usually a sucker for bad boy turned hero and I love romance but this story left something to be desired. It was a slow read and didn’t really hold my attention. It seemed like it took me too long to read it because I just couldn’t get in to it. The premise is good but the story was a little boring.

Book Description: (From the Author’s website)

Shortly after inheriting Hammersleigh House from her eccentric great-uncle Patrick, Lyris Pembrooke, 38, makes a grisly discovery in the tower room of the old mansion. And her life changes forever.

Lyris learns the roots of the tragedy were set in motion during the dark days of World War Two and feels compelled to know the reason behind such a terrible crime. Frustrated with the lack of progress in her cold case investigation, Lyris turns to the Family Psychic for answers. Her aunt discloses some family skeletons, but also confirms what Lyris has long tried to ignore – she, too has inherited the Pembrooke psychic gene.

Before Lyris can slam that door, her spirit guide, Leander, breezes through the thin veil that separates worlds and introduces himself. It’s just Lyris’s luck to be saddled with a spirit guide with an attitude.

As if dealing with the murder and a spirit guide haven’t complicated her life enough, Lyris butts heads with a controlling ex-husband while trying to nurture a new romance. She is forced to match wits with the very proper butler who came with the house and discovers that an intruder is roaming at will through Hammersleigh House and stealing small treasures. When the mortal life of her new romantic interest is in jeopardy, Lyris believes she is living under a karmic cloud.

During the sultry July weekend of the family reunion, past violence and present danger tread a parallel path, then collide and explode to change forever Lyris’s views of love and duty beyond earthly boundaries.

You better buckle up, Lyris. We’re just getting started.

My Thoughts:

Cheat the Hangman by Gloria Ferris was a surprising read. I really enjoyed it. The story was excellent and kept me guessing until the end. It had romance, mystery, and even a ghost and a butler who kept the place running smoothly. I wasn’t expecting Lyris to find the body of a child in the attic. The story was a wonderful who done it that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was funny at times and serious at other times. All and all it was a well rounded book and I can’t wait to read more by this author.
