Good morning, Deb and welcome to My Book Addiction and More!

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about Deb Marlowe?

Thanks so much for having me, ladies!  I’m thrilled to be back!  Hmmm . . . Well, I’m a wife, mom to 2 hungry, busy, teenage boys, and an author of Regency Historical Romance.  I love throwing my characters into a mystery or an adventure.  It’s a lot of work facing your demons, falling in love and getting yourself out of peril, too, but I love to give them the sort of happy endings that makes up for it.

I adore history, good movies and men in boots.  I like pina coladas and getting caught in the . . . wait . . .  nevermind.  J

MBA&M: What made you decide to write historical romance,Regency, why that era?

I’m a major history geek.  I like learning about it every day and I love making history come alive.  The Regency era is wonderful to write because it is full of conflict, societal changes, historical figures that are larger than life, plus, you know . . . men in boots.  J

MBA&M: What inspired you to write “Unbuttoning Miss Hardwick”,if anything?

Braedon and Chloe are both hiding behind masks.  They are very different sorts of masks, but I wanted to explore a journey where the characters take the huge risk of exposing themselves, facing and learning their true selves, for the sake of love.  It makes for hard decisions and some hard moments too, but I think it’s that much more satisfying in the end.

MBA&M: What kind of research goes into writing historical romance and where do you get most of your material(s)?

Research is one of the best parts of writing historical romance—and really helps in taking both me and my readers out of our everyday worlds and into the past.

I read a lot of research books and belong to several historically oriented loops.  Sometimes it’s something specific that I’m looking up for a plot or scene, and sometimes it’s just a little nugget that pops out of a book or you see online.  Occasionally it’s that unexpected knowledge that becomes the basis for something fun in a book!

MBA&M: How do you feel the internet helps authors and readers connect?

I think authors and readers have reached a sort of connection today that has never been achieved before.  I love my fabulous newsletter peeps.  We do fun contests together and they amaze me with their stories and opinions.  Authors are easy to find and connect with on Facebook and Twitter.  I know not everyone is comfortable with so much interaction, but for the most part people are lovely.

MBA&M: What are your comfort foods?

Chex mix and my mom’s ham casserole.

MBA&M: Living in a small town,or not so small if you know the area,we are nearly neighbors as a matter of fact. How do the residents preceive you as an author? Are they camped on your doorstep, following you around, going through your trash, and such oddities? If so, how does this affect your family?

We are practically neighbors!  I’m not sure why we don’t see each other more.  J  I’m LOL at the thought of anyone camped out on the doorstep.  No one gives a hoot about my garbage except for the possums who go on a determined, nightly raid.

No, my friends and neighbors are mildly interested in my career.  Some of them read my books, which is wonderful and strange at the same time.  They get a charge out of seeing my books at Walmart or the bookstore.  One thing that has been nice—this is such a great area to live in.  It’s easy to get around to the different smaller communities as well as Raleigh.  I’ve met some people online and then had the opportunity to get together for coffee and lovely romance talk!

MBA&M: In “Unbuttoning Miss Hardwick” which character, who do you identify with most and why?

In this particular book, I think I identify with Chloe Hardwick the most.  I’ve never gone to the extremes that she has to hide myself away, but I have reached several crossroads in my life—the sort at which you know that your decision is going to forever change your life—and the sort where you once and for all have to decide what kind of person you are going to be.

MBA&M: What is on the horizon for Deb Marlowe?

I am currently writing the second book in a new series.  Details to follow.

MBA&M: What is your biggest regret as an author? Why?

Not starting to write sooner.  I look back and know I could have found a way to make it happen, if only I had known how much I would enjoy it.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where “Unbuttoning Miss Hardwick” is available?
