~The Paris Game (Le Chat Rouge Series #1)~
BY ALYSSA LINN PALMER….
WE ARE HONORED TO HAVE THIS TALENTED AUTHOR WITH US TODAY…..
SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO….
MBA&M: Welcome, Alyssa! Please give our readers some insight into the mind and life of Alyssa Linn Palmer?
ALP: I’m afraid my life isn’t too interesting. When I’m not at my day job, I’m writing, or editing (freelance), or trying to catch up on my reading or TV watching. (I’m especially fond of the series “Case Histories” with Jason Isaacs.)
MBA&M: What was your inspiration for writing “The Paris Game”?
ALP: I’d had a bit of a fascination with Paris/French culture for a few years, but it really exploded (and my first ideas for the book came to fruition) after I visited Paris in 2003. We took in some jazz at a famous jazz club called Le Bilboquet, and it all started from there. I really wanted to go back to Paris, but for a long time I couldn’t afford it, so writing about it kept me happy.
MBA&M: Who was your favorite character to write and why?
ALP: I don’t know if I could answer with just one. I loved writing Marc because he was so perfectly imperfect (as my friend Cathy Pegau put it), a successful art dealer, talented musician, but also morally questionable, but I also loved writing Sera (again, perfectly imperfect), a woman who resorts to turning tricks to pay off a debt. However, for sheer personal amusement, writing the character of club owner Monsieur Royale has to take the cake. He needed to be physically and mentally repulsive, so I had a lot of fun with him.
MBA&M: What was the worst scene for you to write? Why?
ALP: Probably the fight scenes. I’ve never been in a fight myself, not since I was a kid, so it isn’t really something I’ve had experience with. It’s hard to make it seem realistic, but to also keep the action moving. Those were the scenes most edited.
MBA&M: Why Jazz, gangsters, a wager and Paris for your plot and setting?
ALP: I love jazz, for one, particularly the classic jazz, the “hep cats” from the 1930s, like Bix Beiderbecke and Hoagy Carmichael. Gangsters are fascinating because by definition they’re on the wrong side of the law, and what they do can be violent and unethical, but they often have a moral code of their own that is as strict as anything society has. The wager was inspired by reading ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’ by Laclos, the classic French epistolary novel. It’s one of my favourites.
MBA&M: What advice would you give to any new authors?
ALP: Work hard, write every day if you can. Learn the craft, take workshops, maybe join a writing group, find critique partners. The first draft might be all you, but the revisions are easier when you have someone else looking at your manuscript.
MBA&M: In today’s world of internet, where would you advise new authors to start first in promoting their stories?
ALP: I think the best sort of promotion is to keep writing. Write more, give your readers something to move on to when they’ve finished reading your first work. Rinse, repeat.
MBA&M: How, where can our readers connect with you and where may they purchase “The Paris Game”?
ALP: They can find me on Twitter (@alyslinn), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/AlyssaLinnPalmer), or on my website http://www.alyssalinnpalmer.com. The book is available from Amazon currently, in trade paperback (http://www.amazon.com/Paris-Game-Rouge-Series-Volume/dp/1484834828/) and ebook (TBA). It will be available from other retailers soon.
Alyssa, what a pleasure to have you with us today and our readers! Do you have anything you would like to add?
ALP: I’ve always been of the opinion that publishers should offer a free ebook when you buy a paper book, because often I’d like to have an ebook for portability, but the paper book for my collection. So, I have put my money where my mouth is. If you buy the trade paperback of The Paris Game, you can email me and I will send you an ebook in the format of your choice.

On the darker side of Paris, it’s dangerous to not pay your debts…
A singer in a jazz club past its prime, Sera Durand must come up with thousands of euros to pay back her boss, a ruthless gangster. A confrontation with her ex, an art dealer profiting on the wrong side of the law, leads her into a questionable wager, but one that could solve her problems.
Marc Perron knows a winning proposition when he sees one. Seducing a shy young woman of Sera’s acquaintance will be the easiest thing in the world, and the prize, to have Sera in his bed once again, is worth the chance of losing a sizable sum. What he didn’t expect was the depth of Sera’s desperation.
When one of his deals goes awry, Marc’s solution could cost them more than money…
