So without further ado,let’s give a big,warm MBA&M welcome to Emily…..

Thanks so much for having me here today to talk about the Regency era and my debut novel, A LITTLE NIGHT MISCHIEF.

I’m guessing there are some pretty varied reasons the Regency era appeals to readers. At the top of the list is probably the pleasure people have had from reading Jane Austen’s books, which of course take place during that time. The wit and romance and superb characters of the stories make us yearn for more. Also, by the Regency era, people, and especially aristocrats, were marrying more for love than had been the case in the 1700s. So there’s a growing emphasis on love and pleasure. And readers love the balls, the gowns, and the possibilities of marrying into a fabulously wealthy family.

For me, a large part of the allure of writing about the era has to do with the societal conventions that kept people kind of buttoned-up and respectable-seeming, while underneath they would likely have had simmering, repressed passions J

A LITTLE NIGHT MISCHIEF is the story of Miss Felicity Wilcox, who’s been happily running her family estate for the last few years. Disastrously for her, it’s just been gambled away, but she’s not ready to accept that it’s truly lost. So when the handsome new owner, James Collington, arrives to take possession of the manor, she decides that she’ll do whatever it takes to get him to return it to her family.

The wily James has his own reasons for wanting her estate, though, and he’s not going to surrender it. So Felicity comes up with a plan to drive him away. It involves odd costumes and secret passageways, and of course, a lot of nighttime mischief, and before long these two adversaries start to see that they just might be falling in love.

Some of the things I researched for the book were apple orchards, old houses, and the rules governing inheritance.

As far as lessons learned from writing this book…it was the second book I wrote, and I still hadn’t quite learned about the importance of subplots and the need for more characters than just the hero and heroine, LOL. I also learned about the really helpful idea that the major characters should each have a goal, a good reason for the goal, and things preventing them from achieving the goal.

A LITTLE NIGHT MISCHIEF is the first in the three-book Mischief series. The next one, GENTLEMEN PREFER MISCHIEF, will release in December, and the final one, MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT, comes out next June.

Thank you Emily, for spending time with us and our readers today. I enjoyed your debut novel and very much look forward to your next Mischief adventure!

Emily Greenwood has a degree in French and worked for a number of years as a writer, crafting newsletters and fundraising brochures. But she far prefers writing playful love stories set in Regency England, and she thinks romance is the chocolate of literature.

A Golden Heart finalist, she lives in Maryland with her husband and two daughters.

Would you give up donuts…for blood?

Fat, balding accountant Victor Thetherson hoped becoming a vampire would turn his life around. But Victor can’t stomach confrontation and gets queasy at the sight of blood. Instead he gets it from the blood bank, diluted in bloody Bloody Marys. The result: a vampire who doesn’t bite, and a man who gets no respect.

Victor’s slacking staff mockingly calls him Vampire Vic. Victor’s boss amuses his wife by intimidating Victor on video. His ex makes him stay out late while she entertains boyfriends in the house she insists they continue to share. One night it finally boils over, and Victor bites someone. And then another…and very soon, he’s no longer visiting the blood bank.

Muscle replaces fat, and his comb-forward widow’s peak takes root. Victor basks in newfound attention and respect, at the office and at home. But real vampires get hunted, and as the transformation reaches the tipping point, Victor must decide how much he’s willing to sacrifice for the power of the vampire.

the duchess hunt 2

So without further ado, welcome Jennifer!

MBA&M: Jennifer, welcome to My Book Addiction and More and please those readers who may not know you yet,a little about Jennifer Haymore?

JENNIFER: I am a mom of three who lives in California, and I have always loved to both read and write. I write Regency Romance books loaded with action, emotion, and heat.

MBA&M: “The Duchess Hunt” is the beginning of a new and exciting series “The House of Trent”, how many books will be in this series?

JENNIFER: There are three books in the series:

The Duchess Hunt – June 25, 2013

The Rogue’s Proposal – November 26, 2013

The Scoundrel’s Seduction – May, 2014

There are also three standalone erotic novellas “written” by Lady Esme, who is the youngest sibling in the House of Trent and the only sister. She is always secretly scribbling away in her notebook, and now she’s sharing her stories with the world under the “Jennifer Haymore” pseudonym! These are standalone novellas, so they don’t share characters with the House of Trent Series. They are:

The Devil’s Pearl – May 7, 2013

His For Christmas – October 1, 2013

Untitled Novella #3 – April, 2014

MBA&M: For those of us who adored your “The Donovan Sisters” and “The James” series, how will “The House of Trent” differ?

JENNIFER: The House of Trent is a family series like the James series and the Donovan Sisters, and contains similar themes about family and acceptance. The House of Trent series, however, contains three books that revolve around one mystery—the mystery of the missing dowager duchess.

The three novels in the House of Trent also tell the stories of three very strong brothers: the serious duke, Simon; the rogue, Luke; and the strong, silent one, Sam. I love these heroes—they’re my favorite heroes out of all my books!

MBA&M:  “The House of Trent” is about Simon Hawkins, duke of the duchess hunt 2Trent and Sarah Osborne, can you tell our readers a little about them?

JENNIFER: Simon, the Duke of Trent, and Sarah Osborne are the hero and heroine of The Duchess Hunt. Simon is a man who’s been weighted down by his responsibility. He’s spent years trying to rebuild the reputation of his family. He’s known far and wide as an honorable, respectable man. Because of this, and because he’s a hot, wealthy duke to boot, women throw themselves at him constantly!

Sarah Osborne was raised in Ironwood Park, the duke’s main estate. As a child, she was brought into the house by the eccentric dowager duchess, who treated her nearly as affectionately as she treated her own children. Sarah loves Ironwood Park and now works as the head housemaid there.

Sarah has loved Simon afar from childhood, and they have always been friends. Yet Simon has hardly looked at her since they shared a passionate kiss a few years ago. Now, though, Simon’s mother, the dowager duchess, is missing, and Simon, Sarah, and the rest of his family must band together to find her. Simon doesn’t want to hurt Sarah or take advantage of her…but some forces of attraction are so strong, they can’t be denied.

MBA&M: What was your favorite scene to write and why?

JENNIFER: I loved writing the scene where Sarah goes to Gretna Green to get married…and not to Simon!

MBA&M: Ok, inquiring minds want to know….”The House of Trent” is going to be made into a TV series, who do you envision as the actors?

JENNIFER: I always imagine a young Rob Lowe as Simon and Zooey Deschanel as Sarah.

MBA&M: Now, let’s talk about secondary characters, who was your favorite, and will they have their own book soon?

JENNIFER: My favorite secondary character is definitely Simon’s younger brother, Lord Luke, who shows up in THE DUCHESS HUNT passed out drunk on Simon’s doorstep. He’s a bad boy to the core, and the next book in the series, THE ROGUE’S PROPOSAL, is his!

Achingly tender, yet filled with laughter, The Lake House brings to life the wide range of human emotions and the difficult journey from heartbreak to healing.

VICTORIA ROSE. Fifty years before, a group of teenage friends promised each other never to leave their idyllic lakeside town. But the call of Hollywood and a bigger life was too strong for Victoria . . . and she alone broke that pledge. Now she has come home, intent on making peace with her demons, even if her former friends shut her out. Haunted by tragedy, she longs to find solace with her childhood sweetheart, but even this tender man may be unable to forgive and forget.

HEATHER BREGMAN. At twenty-eight, after years as a globe-trotting columnist, she’s abandoned her controlling fiancé and their glamorous city life to build one on her own terms. Lulled by a Victorian house and a gorgeous locale, she’s determined to make the little community her home. But the residents, fearful of change and outsiders, will stop at nothing to sabotage her dreams of lakeside tranquility.

As Victoria and Heather become unlikely friends, their mutual struggle to find acceptance—with their neighbors and in their own hearts—explores the chance events that shape a community and offer the opportunity to start again.

Cemetery Whites Cover

Q: What is the title of your latest book? Why did you write it?

A: My book is titled Cemetery Whites. That refers to old-fashioned white irises, still found growing at old homesteads and in old graveyards. My book opens with a body found lying in a patch of Cemetery Whites.

Q: Why did you write Cemetery Whites?

A: I chose to write a mystery, and I decided to set it in Texas, in the country where my father’s family settled in the early 1800s. Then I started thinking about the plot, the characters, the tone and style. Things changed and developed as I wrote.

.Q: If you could only publish in a single genre, what would it be? Why?

A: Right now, the cozy mystery genre suits me very well. I want to establish a series around my amateur detective, Caroline Hargrove Hamilton, and her friends and family living in rural Texas near San Antonio.

.Q: How long did it take you to get published the first time?

A: The very first thing published was my prize-winning poem in the eighth grade. I wrote a newspaper article in high school, too. It focused on racism and integration, and was published by the Catholic newspaper in San Antonio.

Q: With more books being released each month now than ever before, what do you believe sets your work apart from the others?

A: I believe everybody’s work is different, reflecting their experience and views of life, their ambitions in writing, their personalities.

I’m delighted to hear from readers of Cemetery Whites who tell me they enjoyed reading it. That’s my goal. I want readers to enjoy my books.

Q: Share with us a brief summary of Cemetery Whites.

A: In Cemetery Whites, Caroline Hargrove Hamilton and her cousin Janet Judson solve murders from 1875 and 2010. They find Professor Harrison, a black man, lying dead in a patch of white irises in the Hargrove Family Cemetery in DeWitt County, Texas. He lies close to a grave where it’s rumored a second body is secretly buried.

Caroline and Janet become amateur detectives, uncovering half-a-dozen family secrets related to both murders. Research involves trips to historical sites in San Antonio, a night at a country bar, and another one at a rooster fight. Letters, journals, and oral histories reveal more and more information.

When the murders are solved, a treasure is found. It answers a question no one—except Professor Harrison—knew to ask.

Q: Where can we buy it?

A: It’s available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble, as Kindle and Nook eBooks. You can check it out on their websites, and on mine, www.connieknightbooks.com. Its price is $4.95.

Thank you for spending a few moments of your time with us and our readers today! What an interesting story!

A Captain and a Corset

What a special surprise! Here to visit with us today is the amazing Mary Wine….

MBA&M: What is the allure do you think of Science Fiction to readers?

MARY:  I think it’s a double edge sword. At least for me it is. Part of me is fascinated by the instant gratification of being able to say, Hey, wouldn’t it be great if we had some sort of device to just deal with that? I mean, right now. I love all the gadgets in Star Trek that just heal with the push of a button. Just imagine, no root canals! The flip side, is the horror side. What would we do with the power to overrule nature?

MBA&M: Which group of readers do you feel is easier to satisfy, historical or Science Fiction readers?

MARY: That’s a tough one. They are two different groups. But when it comes to romance, I think it’s very important to not forget that the relationship is central to the story. Otherwise, I’d be writing in another genre. At my core, I am a Romance writer.

MBA&M: How hard is it switch from Scottish historicals to fantasy?

MARY: It has been challenging. But I began in paranormal. History has always had a major part in my life. Yes, I was the kid that did well on those High school history tests, naming all the wives of Henry the eighth was fun! I met my husband at a renaissance fair. I really do know how to dance court dances from the 1400’s and I’ve even spent hours in the kitchen making puddings and tarts from the era. The bread is horrible. No yeast, so it’s doughy and dense. Most of my books start when I am sewing. That just seems to be when my brain turns on.

MBA&M: Writing in today’s world of social media, digital copies, and copyright issues?

MARY: It’s a challenge. On one hand, I love writing on my computer. I grew up with those…typewriters. Shudder. Since I still can’t spell my way out of a paper bag, the word processer is my friend. I am now shuddering as I recall retyping the same page of an essay over and over and over because of typos! I really think it comes down to the same principles that have always been around.  A Publisher has only one way to judge what the readers want and that is by sales. If sales are low on a book, don’t expect the Publisher or the Author to continue the series. I only get paid when a book is bought, so if my titles don’t sell, I won’t be writing more. Simple really.

MBA&M: How much research is involved in writing “A Captain and a Corset”?

MARY: A lot. But again, it was stuff that interests me. I adore the Victorian era. I do own a bustle, several actually. I wear them and it really brings a deeper understanding of the era. I love all the secret societies and the rules. My Illuminists were born out of this ridged framework. I wanted to work in a society where, scandal of scandal, women had equal rights! Now just what would a lady do when faced with that!!!!????

Thank you,Mary,for stopping by today!

But then again, it was Bion. Nothing about her pleased him.

“If your glasses were in the correct place, you would not have alarmed other members of the crew,”   he admonished.

“We are not aboard one of your ships, Captain, and I certainly will not be taking advice from you on how I keep myself in my bedroom.” She rose up on her knees, the need to face him head-on burning through any protest her common sense might have made.

“And I am not dressed, sir!”

“I’ve seen you in less.”

Her eyes widened, the deep tone of his voice setting off a ripple of excitement racing along her skin. Her mouth dropped open and satisfaction flickered in his dark eyes, the remains of her composure shredded.

Bion Donkova had fast reflexes, but today she was faster. Her hand connected with his face, delivering a slap that resounded loudly in the morning air.

She expected him to be furious; instead, the man growled. The sound sent her back, the sheer maleness of it making her shiver. Challenge appeared in his eyes and his lips curved up into an arrogant smirk. For a moment, he looked very much like a pirate, the sort of man accustomed to being ruthless in the pursuit of what he craved.

He gripped the footrail of her bed and leaned forward.

“But if you can’t tolerate the threat to your modesty, feel free to cry out. I’m sure Guardian Lawley will be happy to rescue you before you fall victim to a fit of vapors.”

Her temper boiled. If it were possible for steam to rise from her ears, it would have. But her pride refused to let his challenge pass. With a soft hiss, she forced herself to release the bedding and climb out of bed.

The urge to tug her chemise up to cover more of her breasts was also squelched as she lifted her chin and shot him a scorching look.

“I can handle your gutter behavior quite well. Look as you will. All that proves is how much you deserve my contempt.”

She intended to walk past him, but he captured her wrist, his larger hand closing all the way around her limb. It wasn’t the first time he’d manhandled her, but for some reason she was acutely aware of how much strength he had today. Tension curled through her belly, teasing her with a flicker of heat she’d never experienced before. It was dark and tempting and almost irresistible. Almost.

“Release me.”

He chuckled, amusement still flickering in his eyes. His grip tightened a mere fraction, almost as if he might disregard her demand.

Pirate… ruthless and without boundaries. Why had she never realized just what sort of nature he had hidden beneath his formal exterior and endless lectures about duty?

She was trembling, the realization of which cut through her outrage like a rapier. Something in his gaze made it look as if he was reading her thoughts, which was impossible. But she felt it nonetheless.

He pulled her closer, until they were mere inches apart. “I do believe I might just enjoy your attempts to handle my gutter behavior, Miss Stevenson.”

His voice was low and edged with warning. What flared up in the depths of his dark eyes made her shiver. He felt it, that telltale reaction through his grip on her wrist. He smoothed his thumb across the tender skin of her inner wrist before lifting her hand and boldly pressing a kiss against the same spot.

It was nothing like the kiss Jonathon Saddler had given her. This was scorching hot and it stole her breath. Her heart began to race, feeling as if it were straining to break free of her chest. Every bit of self-control she had seemed to be slipping through her fingers like sand, leaving her without anything to hold on to.

With a savage jerk, she twisted her wrist, angling to break his grip at the weakest spot, as she’d learn in her Asian fighting classes. He straightened instantly, his larger body adopting a polished fighting stance to prove he knew far more about the Eastern arts than she did. Something lit his eyes, but she shied away from taking a closer look at it. A warning rose up from her mind, telling her to beware of learning more about this side of his nature. Or her reaction to it.

There’s Trouble in the Skies…

For Sophia Stevenson, there’s no going back to the life she knew. She never asked for the powers that make her a precious commodity to the secret society of Illuminists—and their archenemies.

Captain Bion Donkova would give anything to possess the powers that have fallen in Sophia’s lap. If only the beautiful, infuriating woman could stay out of trouble, he wouldn’t have to keep coming to her rescue…

Bion and Sophia have friction to spare—and nothing fuels a forbidden passion better than danger…
