One Night With An Earl excerpt:

“What do you find fascinating, my lady?” he asked quietly. He knelt down and slipped her muddy slipper off her foot before setting it aside.

         “You,” she answered honestly.

He smiled at that. It was an arrogant, supremely masculine smile. “Good. But what else?”

She looked away from him. But some part of her didn’t want to lie to him or evade his questions. “I have always been fascinated by food,” she admitted quietly.

“Food? Do you mean its preparation or its consumption?” He chafed the cold, damp skin of her foot between his hands to warm it.

“Its preparation,” she clarified. “As in, how to combine ingredients in a way that makes them most pleasing to a person’s palate.”

He looked intrigued. He bent down to kiss the top of her foot, his lips warm and soft. No one had ever kissed her there before, and it was…erotic. It made her pulse flutter and her cheeks burn with a flush.

He sat on the sofa beside her and stretched his long legs out, crossing them at the ankles. “So…you are a cook?”

“Not in a professional capacity,” she said. “But I enjoy going into the kitchen and collaborating with our cook.”

“What kinds of foods do you most like to prepare?”

“I enjoy all types of dishes. But my favorite? Baked sweets,” she admitted. “Biscuits, fruit pies, tarts, pastries, cakes…”

She looked away, eyes downcast, afraid of his reaction. No one of her class, except Jessica and her family, had ever accepted her fascination with cooking. The world in general believed that cooking was far below Beatrice’s station. She was lucky Cook allowed her into the kitchen at all.

“Look at me,” he commanded softly. Pressing one finger against her cheek, he turned her head to face him. “I’d like to taste one of your creations,” he said. The backs of his fingers stroked her cheeks. “A lemon pudding, perhaps.”

He trailed the finger from her cheek, down the front of her neck, and over her breast, gently swiping over her nipple. Even through the fabric of her clothes, the sensation was so strong she gasped aloud.

“Perhaps,” he said quietly, “I could lay you naked on our bed and eat the pudding off your skin.”

She shuddered.

“I’d lick off every bit of the sweetness, but that wouldn’t work, would it? Because once the pudding was gone, your skin would be even sweeter.”

Her eyes fluttered shut. He’d just given her the most erotic image of her life. Herself, lying naked across a bed while he licked lemon pudding from her skin.

His lips curved. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you? You’d like me to lick a sweet confection from your body.”

She gave a ghost of a nod, and his fingers swiped over her nipple again. She wrapped her fingers around the wrist of the hand that was touching her. “Wait. I…I want…”

“What do you want? Do you want me to take you back to the masquerade? Or…” He let the question hang, but she knew what he had been going to say.

Or do you want to stay?

And here it was. This was the moment of truth. Her universe balanced on a single point, and she had the power to choose. For once in her life, she was the master of her own destiny. This man wanted her—she could see it in the deep glint of his eyes, in the tightness of his jaw, in his posture, bristling with maleness. But he wouldn’t force himself on her. He was a gentleman, and if she wanted him to, he’d take her back to Jessica immediately.

He waited, gazing at her. Was that hope in his eyes?

“I want to stay with you,” she whispered.

The Scoundrel’s Seduction excerpt:

He reached down and took her right hand in his own. He raised their hands as he slipped his other arm around her waist. She pressed her palm against the back of his shoulder and suppressed a shudder. They were so very close, in such an intimate position. She wanted more, wished she could press herself even closer to him. “I haven’t danced a waltz in a very long time,” she breathed.

In fact, though she had learned how to waltz, she had never officially danced one during her Season because waltzes were considered highly improper for young ladies.

“The waltz is my favorite dance,” he told her.

“Why is that?” she asked, thinking that if he was to keep holding her like this the whole way through, it might just become her favorite dance, too.

“I do not enjoy touching a great many people,” he said quietly, his glittering blue eyes locked on hers. His arm tightened around her. “I prefer to have my hands on just one woman at a time. And that woman happens to be you.”

It felt like the air in the room—already thin and difficult to breathe—was sucked away. For a moment, she felt light-headed, unable to speak. Then she managed, “But don’t you dance the other dances as well?”

“Yes, when it is necessary for me to do so.”

“Why, if you don’t like them?”

“Because it is expected. I have made a study of societal expectations. The study has allowed me to become quite skilled at meeting them, Persephone.”

And with that, the waltz began. It was a lively dance, and Mr. Bull took full advantage, his steps bold, his turns wide, causing her pleats to stretch open and her skirt to billow around her.

She held on tight and let him take her on the ride. She didn’t think about the steps—she didn’t need to. She learned quickly that she must allow her feet to move as they would, and as long as she did so, they fell into a natural, perfect synchronicity.

He took her into a wide, spinning arc, and she couldn’t help it. She laughed in delight. She couldn’t remember ever feeling so free.

He squeezed her hand very tight for a moment. “You have the sweetest laugh I’ve ever heard,” he said, gazing down at her.

Still smiling, she looked into his eyes as he spun her around yet again. “Thank you.”

“I believe you enjoy waltzing with me, Persephone.”

“I have not enjoyed anything so much in a very long time,” she admitted. “I wish…”They danced around a group of couples, steering clear of a flurry of colorful skirts.

“What do you wish?” he asked, his voice low.

“I fear this might be our only opportunity to dance a waltz,” she said. “And I wish that wasn’t the case.”

“I hope it isn’t the case,” he said.

“But it must be. Because I fear Persephone’s time here is limited.”

Soon enough, she’d need to leave the colorful rebirth of spring and return to the underworld. But it was true—something about being with this man felt like she was blossoming after a very, very long time spent underground. She loved that feeling…and she didn’t want it to end.

“My time is limited.” She gazed at him straight on. “But I intend to enjoy every second while it lasts.”

This time, his lips were easier to read, his smile slow and seductive, and his eyes narrowing the slightest bit through the sockets of the mask.

“And I intend to enjoy every moment with you.”

She felt so free. Spinning, turning, waltzing, a handsome man holding her as if she were his most cherished possession, her dress a cloud of blue linen around her, her heart soaring. Tonight, after living so long a prisoner, she was breaking free of the cage Fenwicke had built around her.

For the first time since long before his death two years ago, she felt free.

And until a person has been a prisoner, they never understand how truly sweet freedom can be.

I didn't know banner

Why did you write your book?

Yvette: I Didn’t Know – Identifying, Confronting, and Overcoming Child Sexual Abuse is only my second book.  Believe me; I do not consider this to be a small feat.  It’s just that I have yet to consider myself to be a writer or an author; at least not yet. Oh, I imagine that will come in time.  But for now, I am comfortable with writing for an audience of one.

My writings thus far, are about my life experiences.  As such, all of my writing is very personal to me.  I always seem to start out with a simple desire to put my thoughts, feelings, and experiences on paper.  I like to look over my life in print and reflect over the things I have done right (properly or correctly) and those things that I have done wrong (improperly; my mishaps or missteps).  I find this to be very cathartic.

The idea for writing I Didn’t Know – Identifying, Confronting, and Overcoming Child Sexual Abuse came from watching Tyler Perry on The Oprah Winfree Show one day.  On this particular show, he came forward to tell his story about being sexual abused.  From there, his story became a platform.  Then they, Oprah Winfree and Tyler Perry, took his story to the next level by having an audience filled with nothing but men who had been sexually abused.  I think this was two with separate shows; a show with just Tyler Perry and then another with Tyler Perry, perhaps a counselor, and an all-male audience.  At present, I really cannot remember the actual format of the show or shows; I just remember the impact it had upon me.  I thought what he had done, his coming forward, was very brave and took a great deal of courage.  I remember sitting on the sofa crying thinking to myself those must have really been some terrible experiences.  It was at that moment, I heard the Lord speak to me saying, “You have been sexually abused as well.”  I sat for a moment thinking to myself, “When and how could this have happened?”  That’s when He, the Lord, reminded me of the things that had happened to me.  As He began to share my experiences with me, I became compelled to tell someone; anyone who would listen.  I very strongly believed then as I do now, that victims of child sexual abuse could no longer be silent and continue to allow these heinous acts to be swept under the carpet.  Someone had to be bold enough to come forward!

From there, I started writing.  As God took me down memory lane, I just began to write down everything He said to me.  It was like taking dictation.  So, I guess the short answer for why did I write my book is because people need to know what happened to me because I know it has happened to countless others.  The number of people (victims) who remain silent and never tell their stories far outweighs those who have come forward.  Therefore, my quest in writing this book was/is:

§  To expose the enemy (I believe this lessens his power)

§  To overcome the guilt & shame by being able to confront it head on

§  To encourage and educate others on how to identify, confront & overcome sexual abuse

§  To set the captives FREE

I didn't know coverAbout The Book

“I Didn’t Know” is for more than just an audience of one. If you look to your left, look to your right, or directly in the mirror, you will see or know someone who has been sexually abused… even if you look in the mirror, and the person is YOU! More than the tragedy of sexual abuse is the tragedy of the silence of sexual abuse. It must be talked about. Our stories have to be shared; someone’s life is literally depending upon YOU to BREAK THE IGNORANCE OF SILENCE! “I Didn’t Know” brings to the forefront the many hidden faces of child sexual abuse. The author, Yvette L. Allen-Tatum, shares not only her story, but the compelling testimonies of others–everyone from the actual victim, to the offender, to those who standby by in disbelief and allow these heinous crimes against our children to continue. Our voices have to be heard, our children must be free or freed to tell the TRUTH: that someone touched them. Who can they run to? Will it be you?

From The Author

I Didn’t Know – Identifying, Confronting & Overcoming Child Sexual Abuse – the title is indicative of the subject matter.  In this book the author brings to the forefront the many faces of child sexual abuse; those of the victims and the abusers.  Yvette Allen-Tatum boldly confronts her past of child sexual abuse to demonstrate that TRUE deliverance is possible.  Yvette believes that we ALL (victims, abusers, enablers, nay-sayers, etc.) can OVERCOME the horrible effects of child sexual abuse.

This book proves that true healing is possible and necessary for us to become more than CONQUERORS through Christ Jesus.

As a community, we have to:

  • Identify Child Sexual Abuse –
    • We have to talk about it (raise public awareness)
    • Know the signs & symptoms
  • Confront Child Sexual Abuse –
    • Error on the side of caution – THE CHILD
    • Be quick to BELIEVE the victim and make all necessary inquiries
    • Studies show people are more apt to believe the innocence of the accused; this has to END
  • Overcome Child Sexual Abuse –
    • We overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the WORD of OUR TESTIMONY

Thanks everyone for stopping by today!!

We are so excited to have with us today, # New York Times Bestselling author:

Cavendon Hall

Welcome, Barbara!!

Congratulations on your latest release….

Q: What was your/is your inspiration in writing?

A: I began writing at 7. Sold my first short story at 10. My mother taught me to read at 4. She was my inspiration. I because a journalist at 16 on the Yorkshire Evening Post. I’m still a journalist writing for British papers.

Q: What made you decide to write a story during the Edwardian England era?

A: I love writing about English history. This period has always fascinated me and I know a lot about it. The Edwardians were very happy and social. The era was glamorous, and England was the greatest empire ever known. London was the center of the world, and Kind Edward VII was beloved by everybody.

Q: What is five things readers may not know about Barbara Taylor Bradford?

a) I am a great champion for Freedom of the Press

b) I’m not attached to material things, can easily get rid of them.

c) That I love reading crime novels and watching CSI on TV.

d) That I was a spoiled only child and very indulged.

e) I love decorating.

Q:What are some lessons you have learned as a Bestselling New York Times author?

A: That you are only as good as your last book.

Q: Can you give readers a little background into Cavendon Hall?

A: I thought about friendships between women one day and that I had lifelong friends. This was six years ago. Suddenly, I had two girls in Edwardian England growing up together, being close forever. I called them Cecily Swann and Delacy Ingham, and began writing an outline about them. I suddenly realized the outline was for two books and put it away. But I took it out two years ago and understood how great the outline was. I got to work.

Q: What is next on your agenda?

A: I am writing the sequel called The Cavendon Women, and promoting Cavendon Hall. I’m also decorating our new apartment in Manhattan.

Q: Inquiring minds want to know, or me, anyway: What are some funny stories or things that have happened to you during book signings?

A: A woman asked me to sign a book which had a hole in the middle. Her husband had shot it. It was one of my books.

A man at a signing told me I was his favorite author. When I asked him why, he said that when his mother-in-law came to stay, he gave me her my latest. He knew that she would be reading it non-stop and that he would only have to see her at meals.

One fan took the trouble to find all the decorating books I’d written and she brought all 8 of them for me to sign when I was promoting my last novel, Secrets from the Past. What a surprise that was!

Another fan once asked if she could touch me.

Another insisted I must be a relative of the Queen and wouldn’t believe me when I said I wasn’t.

The funny things that have happened to me have usually been questions, but I have had some strange gifts like badly knitted scarves, a peculiar handmade case for my pen, and weird looking coats for the dogs, who now sadly have gone to doggy heaven, but not in those coats!

Thank you, Barbara, for taking time to visit with us and our readers today. We wish you all the best on your adventures in writing career!
