MBA&M wishes, our greatest congratulations to New York Times Bestselling Author, Jodi Thomas, on her latest release, SUNRISE CROSSING, from our house to yours, Happy Release Day!

Return to peaceful Crossroads, Texas, where community comes first and love thrives in the unlikeliest places…

Until one night, he finds a mysterious dark-haired beauty hiding in his loft. But who is she, and what secret is she protecting?

The art gallery Parker Lacey manages is her life—she has no time for friends, and certainly not lovers. But when her star artist begs Parker for help, she finds herself in a pickup truck, headed for the sleepy town of Crossroads. A truck driven by a strong, silent cowboy…

Gabe Snow has been a drifter since he left Crossroads at seventeen after a violent incident. When he accepts a job in his hometown, he’ll have to decide whether he can put the worst night of his life behind him and build a future in the community that raised him.

About Jodi Thomas….

Jodi Thomas

New York Times and USA Today’s bestselling author Jodi Thomas has published over 30 books in both the historical romance and contemporary genres, the majority of which are set in her home state of Texas. Publishers Weekly calls her novels “Distinctive…Memorable,” and that in her stories “[tension] rides high, mixed with humor and kisses more passionate than most full-on love scenes.” In 2006, Romance Writers of America (RITA) inducted Thomas into the RWA Hall of Fame for winning her third RITA for THE TEXAN’S REWARD. She also received the National Readers’ Choice Award in 2009 for TWISTED CREEK (2008) and TALL, DARK, AND TEXAN (2008). MY THOUGHTS:

Sunrise Crossing by Jodi Thomas is Book 4, in her amazing “Ransom Canyon” series. But can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would suggest reading the other three in this amazing series, but definitely not needed to follow “Sunrise Crossing”.

Once again, Ms. Thomas returns her readers to Ransom Canyon, for  another exciting visit to small town, USA, the people, and the goings on of a small town. Set in Crossroads, Texas. Where love thrives, the community works together, and looks after each other.

Yancy Grey, an ex-con, who has served his time for petty theft, is set on re-building his life, and restoring an old house. He is the caretaker of a group of Senior Citizens.  Parker Lacey, manages an art Gallery and is asked by  her star artist for her help, off to the sleepy town of Crossroads to goes. Gabe Snow, a drifter for years, after a horrible incident in his hometown of Crossroads, returns to his hometown, but can he rebuild his life?

In “Sunrise Crossing” readers will find more than one romance in the mix. In fact, there are at least three romances, interwoven into this story.

Another heartwarming, and charming story from Ms. Thomas. The “Ransom Canyon” series, just keeps getting better and better, to me.

The characters are well-developed, flawed and charming. They will capture your heart. The storyline is interesting, compelling, and exciting. Filled with endurance,  finding acceptance, with the beauty and sweetness of small town romances. Readers are offered a glimpse into small town life, a community that cares for one another, redemption, healing, forgiveness, and the promise of an HEA.

Once again, Ms. Thomas has written a tale with her usual aplomb. It is steady paced, with some very interesting characters, a few old ones and a few new ones added into the mix.

Ms. Thomas has a way of pulling readers into her stories and capturing their hearts, as they hope with all their hearts for a HEA for the characters. Through the struggles, and challenges they manage to find love and romance. Masterfully written!

Another hit for Ms. Thomas and her “Ransom Canyon” series, in my opinion. I can’t wait for the next installment, “Wild Horse Springs”, which will feature some very interesting characters and promises to be just as exciting as the others in this beautifully written series.

Fans of small town romances, the life of communities, finding true love through the challenges of life, and sweet romances, which are heartwarming and profound, will definitely enjoy “Sunrise Crossing”. You definitely don’t want to miss this amazing series! Enjoyable and a very satisfying read!

Winner Takes All Cover Image-1EXCERPT #1

The parking lot was almost empty as Blake left the field-house after the team’s win. He strolled toward his truck, keys dangling from one hand and his gym bag in the other. As he approached, he noticed a figure leaning against the driver’s side door.

A petite, luscious figure in a pair of tight jeans and a Blanco Valley High hooded-sweatshirt.

Just the sight of Annabelle turned his body on high alert. Over the past week, Blake hadn’t been able to get their kiss out of his mind. Not only the feel of her lips pressed to his, but how perfectly her body fit with his. Each one of her curves had molded seamlessly against his harder and bigger one, as though they were two pieces of the same puzzle.

And look at him with all the lame metaphors.

Blake approached the truck, twirling his keys around in his hand. Because if he didn’t keep them busy, he’d yank her away from the door and kiss her again.

“Hi,” she greeted when he stopped in front of her.

He tossed his bag in the bed of the truck. “Hey,” he replied. “You’re here awfully late.”

“I wanted to hang around and congratulate some of the kids. You guys played a good game tonight,” she told him.

“Thanks.” And why did her praise have to mean so much to him? The parents and the school district was what mattered. Not some hazel-eyed opinionated goddess.

Annabelle scraped the toe of her tennis shoe along the ground. And for some reason Blake found the movement endearing.

He was turning into such a pussy.

“Blake,” she said on a sigh. She pushed away from the truck and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I’m sorry,” she told him. “About before.”

“For what?” he wanted to know. “The kiss or the apology?”

She blinked at him and inhaled a deep breath. “For the way I acted afterward,” she clarified. “To be completely honest, I’m not sorry for kissing you. I thought that maybe…” Her words trailed off. “I thought I had taken you off guard and acted inappropriately. I didn’t want you to think I was being too forward. The sorry just kind of popped out before I could think.”

Blake pocketed his keys. “You did take me off guard. But that didn’t mean I didn’t like it as much as you did. I think we both know I did.” She’d been pressed up against him hard enough to feel the evidence between his thighs.

As though sensing his thoughts, Annabelle’s gaze dropped down, lingering long enough to elicit a reaction. “I think it’s safe to say we both liked it. A lot,” she added. “Probably too much, actually.”

“And how much is too much?” Because that was part of his confusion.

One of her shoulders moved. “To be honest, I’m not sure. I’m still trying to figure that one out.”

“Maybe we should try it again, just to see,” he suggested.

MY THOUGHTS:

WINNER TAKES ALL by Erin Kern is an interesting Sports Romance, set in small town Champion Valley, Colorado. Book 1 in Ms. Kern’s new “A Champion Valley Novel” series.

An adorable, and charming story, but a bit predictable. Slow to start with, so hang in there, it picks but nicely, after about the second or third chapter. A Small town, sports Romance, which is adorable, charming, and entertaining, with some bitter sweet topics. Boy meets girl or in this case, former football hero, meets, vulnerable, but resentful Physical Therapist.

Blake Carpenter, a former football hero, whose career spiraled out of control, ending his career, due to an injury. Annabelle Turner, is a recent divorcee, who is a bit resentful of her sister (who is a free-spirited). Annabelle is a tough, hard shell, Physical Therapist. While, Blake and Annabelle’s story  is not a unique tale, it is a tale of vulnerability, resentful,  a brooding football star, sensual tension, hope, promise and hoping for a  HEA.

“Winner Takes All” is a tale of healing, forgiveness, the darker side of professional sports, especially football (NFL), the consequences of a major injury, the feelings that occur after said injury, vulnerabilities, romance, with a bit of humor mixed into the story, and how one wrong decision can destroy one’s hopes and dreams, or does it just change one’s outlook and the direction of one’s life. Ms. Kern does a great job of step-by-step football strategies and plays.

It was interesting to watch Blake and Annabelle’s relationship grow, and develop into something more, with the help of some quirky, secondary characters. Oh, the life of small town romance! I do hope some of the secondary characters find their way into stories of their own!

A sweet Sports Romance, which, however, does have some strong language, which some readers find offensive. Otherwise, an entertaining, and enjoyable read. Please, note… it does not have any actual sex scenes.

Ms. Kern has done an excellent joy with her portrayal of the characters, the dark side of the sports world, the difficulties that occur due to one’s choices, small town life, and it’s quirks, and the promise of hope and healing. Fans of Sports Romance, Football, specifically NFL, the promise of love and the hope of achieving an HEA, will truly enjoy “Winner Takes All”.  I find it to be an enjoyable and satisfying read!

Excerpt

Tonight proved our love is stronger than anything—the feelings and emotions all real.

The only light in the room is the burning fireplace, crackling across the way from the bed. I watch the orange and yellow flames mesh, regaining my bearings. Shay’s warmth on top of my chest is welcoming, helping me relax. I notice she’s been silent for a few minutes, and when I look down I’m met by her sleeping form.

Everything that has happened in the past twenty-four hours wore my girl out. But I’m more than happy just sitting here listening to her light breathing as she sleeps. She looks beautiful, like nothing in this world could disturb her. I want this moment to last forever. I want my time with her to last far past the time we are given here on earth. I don’t know if I believe in eternity, but she sure makes me hopeful that there will be one. She makes me feel like the day I was born only half of me entered the world while the other half of me waited with her and the day we met was the day I became complete again.

Lightly, I move the backside of my fingers down her cheek, and when my thumb makes it to her lips I graze the round edges. Remembering the way she kissed me back when I took away her virginity. Looking at her now, I feel a sense of completion. I’m not only falling, but in essence, also surrendering my heart, soul, and body for the chance to love someone.

This is the moment that changes a boy into a man. The moment one falls in love. Not only am I responsible for loving this woman, but I’m also now in charge of protecting her heart and honoring any promise I give her from here on out.

For women, virginity is the one thing that they give to someone that they’ve fallen in love with. Well, most women. The one thing they give away as a symbol of their love and commitment to their partner. But what virginity is to women, is what a heart is to a man. We save that shit with us until the right woman comes along to claim it. That’s when we then give it away, without a second thought or regret. Shayla took my heart, and I will never be able to get it back.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Her voice is soft and laced in a sleepy rasp.

“You look beautiful when you sleep.”

She searches my eyes, seeing if I’m lying or hiding anything from her. Letting her gaze falter for a second she moves on, accepting my answer. She stretches before placing her head back on her spot above my heart.

THE HIRING FAIR

part of The Wild Rose Press’ “Help Wanted Series”by Laura Strickland

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Genre: Historical Romance

perf5.000x8.000.indd

perf5.000x8.000.inddBrutally dispossessed during the Highland Clearances, Tam Sutherland comes to the hiring fair at Oban, Scotland hoping to find a job for the season. But his maimed right hand, inflicted by the same cruel factor responsible for his parents’ deaths, means he’s one of few men available when the beautiful woman makes her surprising announcement: she’s looking not for a hand but a husband, not just for the season but forever.
Annie MacCallum is under threat from a brutal factor also, back at her home farm—one who preys on unmarried women. If she’s to protect all those who rely on her, including her beloved animals, she must have a husband, if only in name. Secretly glad when the attractive Tam takes up her proposition, she doesn’t realize she’s dragging him into a situation that will trigger old demons. Nor does she expect to give him her heart.

perf5.000x8.000.indd
In a low tone he asked, “This marriage you ha’ in mind, will it be legal wi’ no banns being read?”
“Father Alban is an old friend of my uncle, and I ha’ spoken to him of this. He will accommodate me.”
“Aye, and what will your uncle think o’ this scheme of yours?”
“Very little, I imagine. He is dead.”
Sutherland contemplated that without comment.
St. Lyon’s church loomed ahead, appearing all at once out of the swirling snow. Annie turned to Jockie.
“You lead Old Rake round back and join us inside where you can get warm, eh?”
Jockie nodded and clattered off.
Annie turned to Sutherland and looked into his face, only to be struck again by how handsome he looked. But that had naught to do with anything, and she could not let it sway her good sense, not when she’d come so far.
“Before we go inside, I want to be sure I ha’ your understanding. This is no’ an ordinary marriage but something more in the manner of a hiring, which is why I came to the fair in the first place.”
He inclined his shaggy head toward her slightly. “A hiring wi’out wages. That is against the law, you do ken.”
She swept him with her gaze. “And are you a man to adhere to arbitrary laws? I confess, I did no’ get that impression.”
“And,” he returned, “are you a woman who needs to hire a husband?” He echoed her. “I confess, I did no’ get that impression.” He returned her stare, slow and attentive. “You are certainly bonnie enough to snare a husband the usual way.”
To her surprise, Annie felt a wave of heat course through her. “I do no’ want a usual kind o’ husband. I want one who will tak’ my orders and stay clear o’ my bed. Be sure you are that man before we go inside and speak these vows.”
One of Sutherland’s eyebrows quirked up. “I was right at the outset; you are mad.”
“So we ha’ already determined,” Annie agreed, beginning to grow edgy again. What if he refused at this late moment? Where would she find a substitute, with the market now deserted and the snow falling? Besides, she discovered she did not want a substitute; for reasons she did not quite understand, she wanted this man and no other.
“There is a story behind this,” he said mildly. “I confess, I would like to hear it.”
“Perhaps you shall, but not now—there is no time.” Annie drew a breath and sought to deny the fear rising inside her, the fear that he might walk away from her after all.
But that curious smile crossed his lips again.
“Are you coming wi’ me?” she pressed.
“It seems a damned clever way to secure the services of a farm worker whilst paying no wages,” he said. “But aye, for all that, I will come along wi’ you.”

Born in Buffalo and raised on the Niagara Frontier, Laura Strickland has been an avid reader and writer since childhood. To her the spunky, tenacious, undefeatable ethnic mix that is Buffalo spells the perfect setting for a little Steampunk, so she created her own Victorian world there. She knows the people of Buffalo are stronger, tougher and smarter than those who haven’t survived the muggy summers and blizzard blasts found on the shores of the mighty Niagara. Tough enough to survive a squad of automatons? Well, just maybe.

MY THOUGHTS:
The Hiring Fair by Laura Strictland is a captivating and mesmerizing Scottish Romance set in 1810 Oban, Scotland during a time of the Highland Clearances. (Help Wanted Series).

The characters are flawed, but engaging and captivating. The storyline is unique, intriguing and utterly fascinating. A twist on the usual male looking for a wife. This one is a woman looking for a husband who will be a handiman, only.

In “The Hiring Fair”, Annie MacCallum, a healer, with a special, but dangerous “gift”, goes on Market Day seeking a husband. Enter, Tam Sutherland, a misplaced Highlander of the Clearances, who has suffered the brutality of the Clearances, where his hand was severely damaged and gnarled. Tam is hired to be her husband, but only as her handiman, Anna’s not seeking a husband in the true sense of the word, but they are quickly married. However, things definitely change between them, when hearts get involved.

Ned Randleigh, the evil factor, acting on behalf of the Laird, or so it’s believed. The Laird who is every sick and in Edinburgh, unaware of what’s happening in his absence.

Anna is being plagued by the vicious Ned, who takes advantage of the unmarried women of the village with brutality and cruelty. Which, is why Anna seeks a husband, hoping to dissuade Ned’s advances.

Ned Randleigh, the evil factor, acting on behalf of the Laird, or so it’s believed. Ned is determined to have Anna at all cost. If he can’t have her in his bed, he is willing to destroy those she holds dearest, including having her declared a”witch”, to have her in his bed and under his control. Will he kill her new husband, and destroy all she holds dear? Or can he be stopped before he destroys Tam, Anna and a way of life?

Fast paced, complex, emotionally charged, with brutality, sacrifice, vengeance, passion, a menagerie of wounded souls, both humans and animals, and the magic of faith, trust and love. Many twists and turns takes the reader on an emotional thrill ride, throughout. I was in tears, and my angst for these Highlanders was intense, I could not imagine what these women, especially, went though. Your heart will bleed for them, the horrors they faced, as well as their familes, the angst they must have faced, all due to the evils of one man, Ned, the factor.

“The Hiring Fair” is an awesome read! I enjoy Ms. Strictland’s stories, but, have to said, this was one of her best yet, to me. But, then I enjoy Highland stories, the magic of love and trust. Tissues needed! All I can say is WOW! Powerful storytelling, Ms. Markland! This was not your everyday, Scottish Romance.
Fans of Scottish Romance with a twist, the Highland Clearances, myths, and the magic of faith, are sure to enjoy “The Hiring Fair”. What a unique and mesmerizing tale! Strongly recommended!
Received for an honest review. However, all opinions, insights and thoughts are my own personal opinions.

BLOG TOUR~~THE DU LAC CHRONICLES~~MARY ANNE YARDE~~

The Du Lac Chronicles : Book 1
By
Mary Anne Yarde
“An evocative, timeless saga of love and betrayal”
Tony Riches, author of The Tudor Trilogy
Amazon #1 Best Seller in Young Adult, Medieval Fiction
AD 495, Wessex, Briton.
If all you had left was your heart, would you give it to your enemy?
A generation after Arthur Pendragon ruled, Briton lies fragmented into warring kingdoms and principalities.
The powerful Saxon King, Cerdic of Wessex, has spent the last twenty years hunting down Arthur’s noble knights. He is determined to secure his kingdom against any reprisals for killing their legendary leader. The knights who have survived the genocide are destined to spend the rest of their lives in hiding, never revealing who they really are.
The only knight who refused to be intimidated by this Saxon invader was Lancelot du Lac. Lancelot and Cerdic formed a fragile truce, but Lancelot has been dead these past eight years and it has fallen to his sons to protect Briton from the ambitions of the Saxon King.
Alden du Lac, the once king of Cerniw and son of Lancelot, has nothing. Betrayed by Cerdic, Alden’s kingdom lies in rubble, his fort razed to the ground and his brother Merton missing, presumably dead. Cerdic has had Alden tied to a post and ordered his skin to be lashed from his back. In the morning, if Alden is still alive, he is to be executed.
Annis, daughter of King Cerdic of Wessex, has been secretly in love with Alden for what seems like forever. She will not stand by and see him die. She defies father, king, and country to save the man she loves from her father’s dungeons. Alden and Annis flee Wessex together.
To the horror of Alden’s few remaining allies, he has given his heart to the daughter of his enemy. Alden’s allies see Annis, at best, as a bargaining chip to avoid war with her powerful father. At worst, they see a Saxon witch with her claws in a broken, wounded king.
Alden has one hope: When you war with one du Lac, you war with them all. His brother Budic, King of Brittany, could offer the deposed young king sanctuary—but whether he will offer the same courtesy to Annis is far less certain.
Born in Bath, England, Mary Anne Yarde grew up in the southwest of England, surrounded and influenced by centuries of history and mythology. Glastonbury—the fabled Isle of Avalon—was a mere fifteen-minute drive from her home, and tales of King Arthur and his knights were part of her childhood.
At nineteen, Yarde married her childhood sweetheart and began a bachelor of arts in history at Cardiff University, only to have her studies interrupted by the arrival of her first child. She would later return to higher education, studying equine science at Warwickshire College. Horses and history remain two of her major passions.
Yarde keeps busy raising four children and helping run a successful family business. She has many skills but has never mastered cooking—so if you ever drop by, she (and her family) would appreciate some tasty treats or a meal out!

Inside the Writer’s Mind ~ Mary Anne Yarde. The Du Lac Chronicles

Q1 – SDB: Writing can be a daunting prospect, what made you decide to share your story with the world?
MAY: I grew up just outside of Glastonbury ~ The Ancient Isle of Avalon ~ England. The stories of King Arthur and his Knights were very much a part of my childhood ~ he was everywhere. I knew the stories of Arthur from a very young age and as a teen, I became fascinated with his life.
For me, Arthur embodies an almost utopia age. Everything he stands for, everything he did, had such an impact, that we are still talking about him today. He was a hero, and we all need heroes.
The problem with researching Arthur is that there is a very blurry line between what is real and what is fictitious. But the one thing, which I found the most frustrating, wasn’t the lack of evidence, but the actual story itself, particularly with regards to the ending. King Arthur is betrayed by Lancelot, and then he is betrayed by Mordred. Arthur is fatally wounded at the Battle of Camlann. He is taken to Avalon, and we never hear of Arthur again. As for his knights…if they were lucky enough to survive the battle, they simply disappeared or became hermits.
Seriously?
That was the best the great poets could come up with? I’m sorry, but that ending sucks! The Knights stopped being knights? I don’t buy it and I never will.
I came up with an idea for a book that told the story of what happened after King Arthur’s death. My favourite knight has always been Lancelot, and I wanted to create a world for his children ~ a world for the next generation of Du Lacs and Pendragons. I didn’t realise then, that it would take me another 12 years to actually have a manuscript that I thought was worth sharing with the world. Publishing wasn’t so much of a daunting experience as a necessary one. I had sat on this story for too long.
Q2 – SDB: Who has influenced you as an author?
MAY: I am an avid reader. I love the books by Nicholas Evans and Nicholas Sparks. They both write such beautifully emotive prose that I cannot help but admire them.
Q3 – SDB: What is your writing method? Do you outline first or do you purge your brain on paper until your story is told?
MAY: I made a plan once. It took me ages, several months in fact. Once I was happy with the plan I sat down at my computer, looked at my notes and thought ~ oh screw this! I threw the notes away and just started writing. I do have a rough plan in my head and I will jot down the odd sentence that I think would work well later on in the book, but apart from that. I just sit down at the computer and bleed!
Q4 – SDB: How long does it take you to write your story, from getting it down on paper to publishing?
MAY: The Du Lac Chronicles, from start to finish, took me 12 years. The second book in the trilogy, which is due out later this year, took me about six months. Hey, I think I’m getting quicker at this writing game!
Q5 – SDB: Can you tell me a little bit about your book(s) without giving away too much? Why should I read it?
MAY: I would be honoured to tell you about my books…
A generation after the fall of Arthur Pendragon, Briton lies fragmented into warring kingdoms and principalities.
Eighteen-year-old, Alden du Lac, Lancelot’s son, ruled the tiny Kingdom of Cerniw. Now he half-hangs from a wooden pole, his back lashed into a mass of bloody welts exposed to the cold of a cruel winter night.
When Alden notices a shadowy figure approaching, he assumes death has come to end his pain. Instead, the daughter of his enemy, Cerdic of Wessex, frees and hides him, her motives unclear.
Annis has loved Alden since his ill-fated marriage to her Saxon cousin ~ a marriage that ended in blood and guilt ~ and she would do anything to protect him. Annis’s rescue of Alden traps them between a brutal Saxon king and Alden’s remaining allies. Meanwhile, unknown forces are carefully manipulating the ruins of Arthur’s legacy.
If you love romance, adventure, intrigue and King Arthur’s knights, then check out The Du Lac Chronicles to find out what happened after King Arthur died. I promise you there are not any hermits. Well there is one, but he doesn’t come into the story until much later on in the trilogy!
Q6 – SDB: How much of yourself is in your character(s)?
MAY: It would be wrong to say that there is nothing of me in the characters. I do draw on my life experience…
…there was that terribly traumatic incident where I was chased by a Saxon Army, so I know exactly what that feels like! Rescuing gorgeous men from dungeons is an everyday occurrence for me as well…and…I do have big knees!
Joking aside, I think out of all the characters in The Du Lac Chronicles, I am most like Merton du Lac. He is incredibly loyal, good looking – well, obviously!  He is also very sarcastic ~ Umm…I’m not known for my sarcasm. Maybe he isn’t like me after all?!
Q7 – SDB: What advice would you give to an aspiring author?
MAY: You have absolutely nothing to lose by writing your story, so stop making excuses as to why you can’t and just go for it.
Q8 – SDB: Is there anything else that you’d like to share?
MAY: Yes. I think it is about time that we all learnt how to make pottage. Making pottage is an art and one that we have all but forgotten. It was the staple diet for the poor in the Dark Ages. All you need is whatever you can get your hands on  ~ any vegetables you happen to have growing in your garden. If you don’t have any vegetables, you can steal some from your Overlord, but make sure you don’t get caught, because you might lose your hand, or worse, your head.
Throw all of your ingredients into a big pot…a cauldron will do, like the one witches use. Hang the cauldron over an open fire and slowly heat up the pottage, don’t let it boil. Remember if the stew boils the stew spoils ~ oh hang, on, I think my home economics teacher was talking about milk when she said that. Have I told you I hate cooking?
The joy of pottage is that it can last you for days, and you can keep adding things to it, so that bit of venison you poached the other day, can be added in quickly before anyone notices the deer is missing!
What could be better? It is the Dark Ages equivalent of fast-food. Wholesome and Nutritious. Now please eat, because the King’s Soldiers are coming and this may well be your last ever meal in this world.
Thanks for having me on your blog!! Right…now what was I doing? Oh, curses…the pottage is boiling, the pottage is boiling!!

MY THOUGHTS:
The Du Lac Chronicles, Book 1 is a unique Historical Fiction /Fantasy /YA/Teen/Myths /Legends with a mix of Romance. Based on Arthurian Legend. Set during 5th Century, AD 495 Wessex, Briton. A trilogy.

A fantastic Historical Fiction with so many facets interwoven into the story. The characters are endearing and complex, as well as, the storyline.

Alden Du Lac, once King of Cerniw, who loses everything, his kingdom, his people, his country and captured by an enemy, he didn’t see coming. They were supposed to be allies. He is tortured, beaten, whipped, sentence to death, and left hanging on a whipping post, bloodied and weakened.
Annis, only daughter of the Saxon King Cervix of Wessex, a cruel and brutal father, King and man. He was also supposed to be Alden’s ally, but he betrayed him, razed his Kingdom, and either killed or scattered his people.

Annis, defies her father, her King and her country to save Alden, the man she has loved from afar. Alden and Annis are on the run for their lives, hunted, betrayed but also find passion and love, along the way.
Steeped with treachery, betrayal, challenges, a father’s cruelty, secrets, conflicts, lies, deception, adversity, danger and so much more.

The resilience of Annis and Alden is simply captivating and mesmerizing!
Alden is presumed dead by some, his youngest brother missing, and it is hard to tell who is foe or friend.

An epic love story that will hold the reader in awe from the first page to the last and beyond. With political and court intrigue, bravery, honor, and love, it is simply hard to turn away from this fast paced, dangerous and magnificent treasure. Insufferable adversaries lurks, and dangers on every horizon for Alden and Annis. But these two strong, determined characters continue on though, the odds are against them, surviving.

Written flawlessly, uniquely and timelessly captivating! A timeless tale of Kings, love, sacrifice and honor. A breathtaking Historical Fiction, and one I’d highly recommend.

My only complaint, are the several unanswered questions. I think ithe will be amazing to learn the secrets of the families secrets. There is more to this story than meets the eye. No cliffhanger. A satisfying ending. But, Alden and Annis’ story continues in “The Pitchfork Rebellion: The Du Lac Chronicles” novella, available now Free.

I can’t wait for the next installment of “The Du Lac Chronicles”. Ms. Yarde has written an exceptional Historical Fiction based on Arthurian Legend. Well worth your time to read!
Received for an honest review. However, all opinions, insights and thoughts are my own personal opinions.

THE PRISONER OF SILVERWOOD CASTLE (DARKE OF NIGHT, BOOK 2) BY MARIE TREANOR with #Review

The Prisoner of Silverwood Castle (Darke of Night Book 2) by Marie Treanor

Date of Publication: August 16, 2016

Blurb

Dead men don’t tell tales. They wail them from the top of the tallest tower.

Darke of Night, Book 2

Lady Guinevere (Guin) Harvey would much rather be writing gothic tales of intrigue and adventure than dancing attendance on her sister, the newly married Duchess of Silberwald. Until they arrive at Silberwald Castle, a place of enchanting perfection—and gothic shadows.

Ghostly groans and clanking chains lead Guin through ancient, misshapen passages to one of the castle’s many mysteries: a cell where the odd but charming Kasimir is kept chained like an animal. He could be a figment of her vivid dreams, the ghost of a dead, mad prince, or just a political prisoner no one wants to talk about.

Desperate to discover what beast is howling such soul-chilling cries, Guin summons the medium Barbara Darke. But by the time Barbara arrives, Guin can no longer distinguish dream from reality, friend from enemy. Even with all Barbara’s unique talents, they have to face new dangers before they finally discover the terrifying truth of Silberwald Castle.

Warning: Gives new meaning to falling madly in love…

Thank heaven for babes who like to raise hell.

Taming the Beast, Book 5

Wynona relishes her job as a reaper. Some jerkwad pisses her off? He’s toast. Any douchebag who mistreats a woman better watch out. Lately, she’s been enjoying it a little too much—and Heaven is not amused.

Wings temporarily clipped, she’s doing time working as an enforcer at From Crud to Stud. The body count isn’t what she’s used to, but at least the scenery—that is, her celestial parole officer—is tall, dark, and deliciously hot.

Rafael can’t take his eyes off Wynona. No, really. She’s a 24/7, one-on-one job. No matter how hard this angel rides her, she begs for more. Finding a way to bring out her best side is turning out to be the greatest challenge of his career.

She’s sassy and sexy, and she’s brought out a side of him he never knew existed—an inner Dom that is only too willing to follow her down the garden path of unrestrained indulgence. And once they set foot on that slippery slope, there’s no turning back.

Warning: Virtue has met its match. Celebrates bondage, discipline, voyeurism, and crazy good sex in an office setting, fetish club, and everywhere else. The faint of heart are advised to turn back now.
