Katja’s chance to escape her father’s harsh treatment appears to be too good to be true. But becoming Lady of a clan that despises her because she’s a Sinclair, doesn’t make life any easier. When the attacks turn deadly, she fights her way out, making a dangerous passage to the Shetland Isles for refuge with her Viking family.

My thoughts:

The Highlander’s Viking Bride: Book 2 in the Hardy Heroines series by Cathy MacRae is an awesome Medieval Romance. I was positively entranced and entralled! Can be read as a stand alone.

Calder MacGerry, is the laird of an impoverished clan, but he has decided, after his beloved fathet’s recent death, he would end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclair clans. He accepts Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans. Peace between the two clans is finally on the horizon.

Katja however, is not so sure. She trusts no man, and not many lasse. She been raised around a clan that treats her no respect. She has brothers, of course, who tries to protect her ftom her father’s harsh treatment. She is the best archer in her clans, though.

What starts out as a marriage of hope, soon turns to mistrust and someone in clan MacGerry is trying to run Katja away. She is accepted by her husband’s family with open arms and some others in the clan, however, acidents soon start happening to her. She is poisoned, nearly raped, and set upon by thuds, it’s a good thing she is a fiece lass who can protect herself. Calder is furious when he learns of the things that’s been happening to his new wife. Can love grow from mistrust and hapastance?

“The Highlander’s Viking Bride” is filled with intrigue, mistrust, danger, romance, betrayal and love. It seems when things happen to Katja her husband is not around he’s often trying to increase his clan’s strength, so he’s absent often, he leaves his bride with his brother for her protection.

This story has everything a romance reader could possibly wish to find in a great read. From complex and engaging characters to intriguing plots to a dangerous trek to the Shetlands to finding a true and absolute love and another family she hasn’t seen for many years, her mother’s Viking family. There is a wonderful cast of characters, I can’t wait to read more about their lives.
With mistrust, loneliness, much excitement, forgiveness, love and so much more, readers will be thrilled and excited to read Katja and Calder’s story. I fell in love with them from the very beginning. Fast paced, a definite page turner, with so much to offer readers. Cathy MacRae does not disappoint readers. I hope you will see what I’m talking about and pick up you’re copy.
A definite must read! An extraordinary Medieval Romance!!

Kate Daniels couldn’t be more excited to be planning her best friend’s wedding…in theory.

Lately, just thinking about gowns and centerpieces makes her want to hide under the covers with her dog and a good book—one that doesn’t include a romantic plot, thank you very much. Maybe it’s because her fiancé cheated. Or maybe it’s because he cheated with her younger sister, Charlotte. Or maybe it’s because her newfound reputation as jilted wedding planner isn’t exactly doing wonders for her career.

Charlotte knows she messed up. Big time. But she also knows something Kate doesn’t-something that might bring them close again, if her sister will ever take her calls. But as time passes and silence grows, Charlotte begins to realize she can’t hide from her problems forever, and that sometimes the only place to run is home.

With the wedding only a week away, Kate expects a few surprises. But what she doesn’t expect is to find herself believing…in the strength of family, and the possibility of finding love again.

In the vein of New York Times bestselling authors Susan Mallery, Robyn Carr, and Kristan Higgins, comes the first in a new women’s fiction novel from Olivia Miles.

Excerpt

Alec was leaning against the pole of a street light when Kate approached. Dressed in khaki shorts and a crisp white t-shirt that accentuated every curve of his thick biceps, Kate’s resolve since her conversation with Elizabeth had already weakened and she found herself fighting off the urge to run her hands over that rippled chest–

And that was officially crazy talk.

It had just been too long since she’d touched a man, that was all. It was a natural reaction that surely anyone would have to someone of the opposite sex after all this time. Especially one who looked like Alec.

“Hey!” He flashed her a big grin as she closed the distance between them.

She brightened at the sight of his friendly smile, wishing the response wasn’t so automatic. “Hey.”

Alec gestured to the bistro. “It’s full, but the wait should only be a few minutes.”

“I don’t mind,” Kate said, glancing at the customers who had filled the stretch of sidewalk tables. It was a romantic restaurant, one of the best in Misty Point, but she knew better than to assume this was why Alec had chosen it. He was visiting town, it was close to his hotel, and from an outsider’s point of view it probably just looked like a nice place to eat. Besides, he was probably used to picking the finest options. It was surely nothing more than that.’

And she shouldn’t wish it to be.

Just thinking of how betrayed her friend would feel to know that Kate was siding with the enemy was enough to make her come up with an excuse and leave. Going through with this dinner at this cozy little spot would make her the worst kind of friend there was. She knew too many people like this already, and she didn’t want to follow in their example.

She stole a glance at him, taking in the strong width of his back as he casually studied the menu outside the restaurant, his hands thrust in his pockets, his hair wavy and dark and just begging for her to tangle her fingers through…Stop it!

She opened her mouth, knowing she had to say something, but not knowing quite what, when she saw him. Jake. He was coming around the corner, laughing that laugh, smiling that smile, without a care in the world. He was rounding the bend, coming in her direction. She watched in frozen horror, not knowing whether to hide or run. Her mind ran rampant with every worst case scenario. Was he coming to the restaurant? Would he speak to her? What would she say?

What was he even doing here? He was supposed to be gone, long gone.

And then she remembered. The phone calls. Charlotte. Panicking, she darted her gaze, searching for her sister, not knowing what she would say if she saw her.

“Alec.” Her voice locked in her throat, coming out strained and forced.

He turned to face her, his eyes growing wide at the sight of her. “Are you okay?”

“I need you to do me a favor,” she whispered urgently. Her heart was pounding as her eyes zipped from Alec to Jake and back again.

He hadn’t noticed her. Not yet. But he would. And soon.

Alec rolled his eyes in a joking way. “Do the best man duties ever end?  What do you need me to do now? Arrange flowers? Frost the cake? Oh…I know. Kiss the bride?”

“No. Kiss me.” She blinked, shocked by her own words. It was rash, impulsive, and desperate. She was probably sending him all the wrong messages. But she didn’t even care.

For once, she wasn’t thinking about the ripple effect of her actions. Or what she would say in five minutes. All she could think about was the here and now. And that if she didn’t have time to run and hide from the people who had publicly humiliated her, the most she could do was prove to Jake—and Charlotte–that was over it. That they hadn’t hurt her. That she was just fine.

Alec’s eyes flashed as the smile vanished from his face, replaced with a look of surprise. “What?”

“Kiss me,” she repeated breathlessly, her mind racing. She hadn’t even contemplated the thought that he might turn her down, laugh in her face, storm off. It would make it all worse–seal her humiliation. “I need you to kiss me. Right now.”

Alec’s expression was frozen and for a moment Kate was struck with the horrifying thought that he would drag this out, or turn it into a joke. She didn’t have time for that. But then his brows lifted and his lips curled into a devilish grin. “If you insist,” he murmured, reaching down to scoop his arms around her waist in one smooth effort.

His kiss was anything but shy as he pressed his lips to hers, pulling her so close to his chest she could feel the heat of his body through his shirt.

Her knees went a little weak as she let herself go, and for a moment, she wasn’t even thinking of Jake or Charlotte at all. She wasn’t thinking of the hurt, the pain, or what would happen next, when they broke apart. She wasn’t thinking of anything.

My Thoughts

Fans of Jennifer Bernard’s Jupiter Point Series know that this series is full of HOT men and the women who make them sweat. I always wanted to know Finn’s story from book one, Set the Night on Fire. We learned a bit about Finn in each story, but with SETTING OFF SPARKS, we finally get his full story. I have to say I was surprised and delighted with SETTING OFF SPARKS. Not only is Finn’s full story something fans will adore, it’s heartrendingly touching. Add to that Lisa and her story….and well you get a book that will have you so eager to turn the page and yet dreading the final sentence. I loved how these two interacted, their reactions were realistic and completely believable. The heat between them doesn’t feel forced or faked in any way and makes you smile as you witness their romance. There are a couple of stories going on around Lisa and Finn. Finn’s back story, the reason he did what he did, and Lisa’s reasons for even being in Jupiter Point. Then you have the romance building between Lisa and Finn, and the movie that’s being filmed. It sounds like a lot of characters and stories but it all works so very well together that you forget it’s actually a book and feel like you are part of the story. I hated to see this story end. I so wanted to keep reading more about Lisa and Finn and the rest of Jupiter Point! Fans of Jennifer Bernard know that her stories always deliver fun, steam, a little suspense, and tons of great characters. If you are new to Jennifer Bernard and Jupiter Point, I think you are in for a HUGE treat. This story will melt your heart and leave you eager for more. I can’t wait to see what’s next in Jupiter Point it’s sure to be a scorcher!

BLOG TOUR~~HOW TO RUIN YOUR REPUTATION IN 10 DAYS~~HARMONY WILLIAMS with #Giveaway & #Review

Meet the Author:

Harmony Williams has been living vicariously in Regency-era England since she discovered Jane Austen. Since time machines don’t yet exist, she’s had to make do with books—fictional and non-fictional. On the rare occasion she doesn’t have her nose stuck in a book, she likes to drink tea and spend time with her 90-lb lapdog. A feminist, she writes stories about strong women and the men who support them as equals.

About the Book:

In 1814 London, England, a lady is defined as a demure, delicate flower. Miss Francine Annesley is not that lady. If men were like plants, she would have a garden of admirers to choose from instead of the thorn in her side since childhood, Julian Beckwith. But she would make an even worse nun than she does a lady, which will be her fate if she can’t dig up a husband before the Season ends. However, Julian is not an option.
With only ten short days left in the Season, Francine doesn’t have time to waste on petty squabbles or knee-weakening kisses, even if Julian’s offer to fulfill her every wish rouses her curiosity. It seems men are more complicated than plants. Too bad love bloomed at the most inconvenient of times…

My thoughts:

How to Lose Your Reputation in 10 days by Harmony Williams is an interesting and engaging Historical Romance set in 1814 England. While, #2 it can be read as a stand alone. See, “How to Play the Game of Love”, #1.

This is my first time reading Harmony Williams, I have to say I was totally entranced and intrigued by her charactizations, her vivid descriptions and her storytelling.

Miss Francine Annesley is not a  demure lady, but has book sense and intelligence.  Julian Beckwith has been a thorn in Francine’s side since childhood. A friends to lovers kind of romance, one of my favorite kinds of Historical Romance.

A sweet, funny and utterly adorable read from beginning to end. Francine and Julian make such an great couple. They’re engaging, believable and realistic. Ms. Williams has done a great job of interweaving sexism, self – esteem and vulnerabilities into a story with depth and understanding.

My only complaint,  and not sure I’d call it a true complaint, I don’t usual enjoy first person stories, but, I enjoyed this one. Ms. Williams made me forget it was written in first person. A great read, with many facets to a great story.

Blurb

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Liliana Hart’s first book in her suspenseful Gravediggers series, featuring an elite group of mysterious men who might be dead to the world, but are also tasked with saving it—and no one can ever know.

The Gravediggers aren’t exactly what they seem. They’re the most elite of the world’s fighting forces—and all they have in common is that they’ve been betrayed by the countries they’ve died for. Because they are dead. To their country, their military, and their families.

Sometimes the dead do rise…

Deacon Tucker is a dead man walking. A former black ops agent, he was disavowed and stripped of all honor before being recruited as a Gravedigger. But his honor and good name no longer matter, because no one knows he’s alive, and he’ll never get the recognition he deserves. His mission is simple: save the world or die trying. And for God’s sake, don’t ever fall in love. That’s a rule punishable by death. The kind of death a man can’t be brought back from.

Tess Sherman is the only mortician in Last Stop, Texas. She has no idea how Deacon Tucker ended up in her funeral home, but she’ll eat her hat if he’s only a funeral home assistant. Deacon is dangerous, deadly, and gorgeous. And she knows her attraction to him can only end in heartache.

Deacon is on a mission to stop the most fatal terror attack the world has ever known—what’s known as The Day of Destiny—a terrorist’s dream. But when he discovers Tess has skills he can use to stop them, he has to decide if he can trust her with secrets worth dying for. And, most important, he has to decide if he can trust her with his heart.

THE HIGHLANDER’S WARRIOR BRIDE ~~ELIZA KNIGHT~~#Excerpt & #Review

Their greatest opponent won’t be battled with a sword…

But with their hearts…

Ronan Sutherland is a fierce warrior. Swearing off all else, he thrives on his powerful position within William Wallace’s army. Freedom for the Scots is his mission—until he meets fair Julianna. She captivates him, intoxicates him…makes him want more out of life than what harsh dangers he’s accustomed to.

Lady Julianna is no meek maiden. She’s trained in the art of war, sister to one of Scotland’s most powerful men, and tasked with keeping the future king safe. Until she’s kidnapped by a rivaling clan. Now her only hope is for the one man she trusts—and desires—to save her.

Together, they’ll have to face down one of Scotland’s most treacherous foes… And keep from falling victim to the one thing they’ve both eluded thus far—love.

The tent was dark. Cold. If Lady Julianna had a candle, she’d surely see her breath upon the night air. Puffs of white spilling from her mouth in angry bursts.
Damn the Ross and his ill-fated decisions. Damn the English and their desire to crush the Scots.
If she could go back a few days prior, she would do everything the same way—save maybe tucking more weapons on her person.
At least she wasn’t shackled. Although having free reign of a prison cell made of fabric and surrounded by guards wasn’t really any better. Her numerous attempts at escape had been quickly thwarted. She rubbed her arms furiously against the winter chill. Her cloak was thick and well made, but after a while, layers did not keep a body warm. Oh, what she wouldn’t do for a nice, blazing fire and a dram of Cook’s spiced whisky.
Three days ago, she’d been intent on speaking with Lady Myra at Eilean Donan Castle—an act that landed her here within the camp of her enemy.
Even still, she wouldn’t change a thing. It wasn’t Myra’s fault they were kidnapped. She and Myra had gotten off on the wrong foot, and Julianna wanted to make up for it by helping her escape. Although she wasn’t sure why Myra would want to leave when she obviously loved Laird Murray, but who was Julianna to judge?
She shrugged in the darkness. Truly, she had no right to pass judgment on anyone. Hadn’t she eschewed her own feelings of desire, of passion—of dare she say it—something emotionally deeper? Not that it mattered. Julianna couldn’t marry until her brother deemed it so, and for the foreseeable future, that didn’t seem to be the case.
She was glad. Marriage would only bind her. Wrap her up in a neat little package and put her on the shelf. That was not the life Julianna wanted. She was a warrior.
Trained in the arts of war. Trained to protect the King of Scotland. Little good that did her now, seeing as how she sat prisoner in this Godforsaken tent, by the devil Laird Ross.
“Humph.” She crossed her arms over her chest. Still, she’d not change a thing.
When she slipped into the passageway leading to Myra’s room and saw her being carried away—gagged and trussed up—she had to save her. That’s what she was trained to do. She had no other choice. Myra had traveled a long way, risked death, all to give Robert the Bruce a message. A message that saved his life.
Following the brutes who dared harm a lady, Julianna thought little of her own safety, only of saving Myra. No one else witnessed her being abducted. As a warrior, Julianna felt it was her duty to see to everyone’s safety.
She’d jumped in front of the men, stopping them in their path and demanded they unhand Myra. They’d laughed at her. Right in her face, their breath foul, spittle flying. Julianna ignored their laughter and offered to take Myra’s place. That made them laugh harder. And harder. They knew who she was, and she recognized them too. Colin and Alisdair. Two relatively new retainers in Robert the Bruce’s army. They knew Julianna was important. But she was sure they didn’t know how significant. She was a kitchen servant, or at least that’s what they thought her to be. It did not go unnoticed that she had the ear of Robert. No one, however, knew just what her role was. They’d kept that a secret. They’d had to. It was the only way to protect themselves.

After all, theirs was an illusion created to distract, to confuse.

My thoughts:

The Highlander’s Warrior Bride by Eliza Knight is a nail biting Medieval Scottish Romance. While, #4, it can be read as a stand alone.

Ronan Sutherland is the younger brother of the Sutherland Clan, he’s a fierce warrior and holds an important position with William Wallace. Lady Julianna is a warrior, she’s trained all her life to protect Robert Bruce and she has secrets few people know, which places her in grave danger. Together, these two make a fierce,  tantalizing and impressive couple.  I enjoyed how Julianna and Ronan worked together, fought their attraction, learned to trust each other and found love amongst the turmoil and ugliness that war brings. But, will Robert Bruce, wish to lose his fierce protector? Will he deny what two hearts long to have, their HEA?

“The Highlander’s Warrior” is a quick read, fast paced with nail biting danger and filled with turns and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed Julianna and Ronan’s story. I was captivated from the beginning and held breathlessly to the end.

Ms. Knight is a remarkable storyteller, who draws readers into her stories with her vivid details, her unpredictable but charming and engaging characters and her tantalizing plot.

If you enjoy action packed, danger filled with intriguing characters, brawn Highland warriors, fierce lasses and masterfully written stories,  then “The Highlander’s Warrior Bride” is a perfect story for you to read.  Fantastic Medieval Scottish Romance!

Laird Daniel Murray seeks adventure, battle and freedom for his countrymen. Putting off his duties as laird—with a promise to his clan he’ll return come spring—Daniel sets off with his men to fight alongside William Wallace and the Bruce. But soon he stumbles across an enchanting lady in need. She tantalizes him with an offer he simply can’t refuse and a desire he attempts to dismiss.

A lady’s passion ignited…

Escaping near death at the treacherous hands of a nearby clan, Lady Myra must find the Bruce and relay the news of an enemy within his own camp. Alone in a world full of danger and the future of her clan at stake, she must trust the handsome, charismatic Highland laird who promises to keep her safe on her journey—and sets her heart to pounding.

Together, Daniel and Myra will risk not only their lives, but their hearts while discovering the true meaning of hope and love in a world fraught with unrest.
Early December
Highlands, 1297
A loud crash sounded from below stairs, startling Lady Myra from her prayers. What in all of heaven was that?
She’d been sequestered in the chapel for most of the morning—penance for her latest bout of eavesdropping.
The chapel was dark, lit only by a few candles upon the altar. A fierce winter gust blew open the shudders, causing the candle flames to waver. Myra rushed to the windows, securing the shudders once more, feeling the wood rattle against her fingertips.
Her stomach muscles tightened with unease. There were not often sounds like this at Foulis. In fact, she’d never heard such before.
The very floors seemed to shake. Imagination going wild, she pictured the boards beneath her feet splintering and falling through to the great hall below.
Myra kept a keen ear, waiting for a sign that would reassure her that nothing was amiss. For once she hoped to hear her older brother, Laird Munro, railing at the clumsy servant who’d dropped something, but there was nothing save an eerie silence. The hair along her neck rose and with it, her skin prickled as an acute sense of dread enveloped her.
The castle was never this silent.
“Astrid?” she called out to her maid—but there was no reply. Not even the scurrying of her servant’s feet across the floor. Where had the maid gone? She was supposed to wait for Myra outside the chapel door. “Astrid!” she called a little louder this time, but still there was no reply.
’Twas as if she were alone, but that made no sense. Foulis Castle was always bustling with people. Unable to stand the silence, Myra scrambled to her feet. She lit a tallow candle by the hearth to light her way in the darkened corridor and slowly crept toward the door of the family chapel. Nothing but a whisper of a breeze from her gown disturbed the areas where she passed—’twas how she was able to eavesdrop so often. Locked away, supposedly for her own good, since she was a girl, she learned an important lesson. If she were to find out anything of import, she had to be secretive and slick, so she learned to creep.
She did so now with practiced ease, sidestepping boards known to creak and pausing every few moments to listen for sounds. She strained to hear a whisper, someone’s breathing, anything that would assure her that she had in fact let her imagination get the best of her. But there was nothing.
Fighting hard to keep the fear from suffocating her, she reached the door, and with tortured slowness gripped the cool iron handle. She wanted to throw it open, and ignore the dread that held her hand still. But she had to trust her instincts. Something was terribly wrong. She could feel it. Myra leaned in close, pressing her ear to the frozen wood. She remained motionless, listening. Again silence. Satisfied there was no imminent threat, she began to open the door. An earth shattering shriek and another loud crash broke the silence. Myra slammed the door. Was that…? She shook her head. It couldn’t be. Scrambling away from the door, she dropped her candle which snuffed itself out. God’s teeth! Was that a battle cry? Granted, she’d never heard one before, but ’twas not just any shout. Nay, this sound was terrifying. A cry that sent her knees to shaking and her lip to bleeding from biting it so hard.
She could barely see, the candles at the altar weren’t putting off enough light. What in blazes was she supposed to do? How would she protect herself? Damn those guards. Why hadn’t there been any warning? Shouts of caution. Why hadn’t the gates been closed?
Was it possible that she’d just not heard the warnings? She had been deep in prayer, worrying about her sore knees, and to add insult to injury she’d needed to use the privy for hours. Had she been that preoccupied?
Angered? So distracted that if someone had shouted in her ear she probably wouldn’t have heard it? She took a deep breath to figure out her next course of action.
The secret stairways! Lucky for her, the chapel was located in a tiny corridor off the gallery above the great hall. A hidden stair, inside the chapel, led up to the master’s chamber. Embarrassed after her penances—which were often, Myra chose not to venture into the great hall, instead she preferred to use the hidden stairs. She knew them well. All of them. When she was just a girl, her father had shown her where they were located, and when she’d once found them fun, she now found comfort in their obscurity. Now they would not only help hide her embarrassment but they might even save her life.

My Thoughts

Highlander’s Lady by Eliza Knight is an intriguing Medieval Romance set in the Highlands, in 1297. #3 in the “Stolen Brides” series, but each title can be read as a stand alone. Although,  written in a conservative order.

Daniel and Myra’s story is a thrilling story from beginning to end, I was entirely transfixed to the pages. The pull between Myra and Daniel is truly immensely entertaining.  Daniel could at times, get on one’s nerves with bemoaning his situation. Myra, is a strong, feisty heroine and shows she can and could protect herself. Daniel, is an alpha male,  for sure. The two of them make a perfect match.

Ms. Knight has once again has given readers a tale of love,  trust,  treachery,  betrayal, romance and love. A story  of adventure with sizzling chemistry and an abundance of suspense. Ms. Knight’s stories are vivid in details, you can also smell the heather. I enjoyed “The Highlander’s Lady” immensely and highly recommend it to fans of Highland Romance, the turmoil of the Scottish countryside, the thrill of danger and romance amidst turmoil.  Another great hit by Eliza Knight! !
