While, book 3 in the “Sweet with Heat: Bayside Summers” series, it can be read as a stand alone, flirty, set in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. This is Serena and Drake’s story of childhood friends to best friends to lovers.A sweet story with some heat. Find out of Serena and Drake can make it work.  A heartwarming love story! I look forward to the next installment in this entertaining series.

BLOG TOUR*COWBOYS NEED NOT APPLY*ROBERT TATE MILLER with #Giveaway + #Excerpt

Meet the Author:

Robert Tate Miller was raised in the North Carolina mountain town of Hendersonville and began writing at an early age. He began his writing career with homespun essays of small town life that were published in such publications as Reader’s Digest, The Christian Science Monitor and the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series. He moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980s and wrote hugely successful family-oriented telefilms for NBC, ABC Family and the Hallmark Channel. Robert lives in Northridge, CA..

About the Book:

No, prima donna ballerina Jessica Carmichael isn’t interested in the rough-and-tumble rodeo cowboy she met in physical therapy. In fact, she’s actively uninterested in his cocky smile, and his go-with-the-flow attitude, and how his silly little bets make her work harder than ever to fix her knee. She’d like nothing more than to strangle him, if she wasn’t so busy thinking about kissing him.
Matt Walker’s best hope of getting back in the saddle is charming Jessica into teaching him ballet. He needs to get back on the bronc…even if he has to get there in tights. Only the uptight ballerina lives in a completely different world, one he wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot mechanical bull. But maybe the one thing she needs more than control is to lose control for once—with him.

“Dance with me?” Jessica hesitated for a moment, her eyes resting on his. She didn’t want to seem too eager though, at that moment, at the top of The Peninsula Hotel on 5th Avenue, there was nothing in the world she wanted more than to dance with Matt Walker. She placed her hand in his, and he helped her down.

As they danced close to the creamy smooth sounds of that soulful wedding singer, Jessica moved her face and cheeks in close to his shoulder. His hand on her waist made her lose her train of thought and, for a moment, she tried to imagine his body pressed against hers, him kissing her softly then harder as passion took over, and he started to lose control. She tried to ID his cologne, but couldn’t place the scent. Her cheek brushed against his, and she could feel his stubble scratch her face. In his cowboy attire he was woefully underdressed and, though she’d at least managed to slip on a sleeveless summer dress for the reception crashing, so was she. The evening was cool up on the roof, and the heat lamps were on, but Jessica felt warm and flushed in Matt’s arms.

With each word your tenderness grows, tearing my fears apart

The auburn-haired singer moved into the final verse, and Jessica suddenly wanted her to slow down, maybe start all over again or meld into an encore: maybe something like Still by the Commodores or At Last. The ballerina wasn’t ready to let go quite yet. She felt a weakness in her knees, a light-headedness and wondered if Matt felt the same. Then he looked at her, as if he could feel her thoughts on him.

“You know what, Tiny?”

“What?” Jessica said. “She smiled up at him. He was taller than she thought, yet she figured he wouldn’t have to bend down too far to kiss her. Again, she imagined that kiss, wondered if he was imagining it, too. She wondered what his stubble would feel like. She tried to remember if she’d ever kissed a man with stubble and knew immediately she hadn’t. Up to this point in her life, she’d been a clean-shaven kinda girl. Then she remembered that he was about to say something, and she tried to look curious and attentive.

“For a ballerina,” he said, “you’ve got a serious set of balls.”

Jessica smiled as the music swelled and the singer held the final note. It was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to her. “So, Mad Dog, guess what time it is?” she said.

Matt gave her a crooked smile. “Why do I get the feeling you’re not talking about the actual time?”

Jessica smiled. “It’s time for you to pay up. I gave a toast to the groom and groom, you’re going to sing to them. Our bull riding bet, remember?”

Matt grinned. “I was hoping you’d forgotten about that.”

“Oh no,” Jessica said. “Not a chance. And I’ve got the perfect song.”

Mt Thoughts

Throug the Fire by Katie Ruggle is a suspenseful Romantic Suspense with twists and turns and a few surprises.  Is was my first time Katie Ruggle, but I hope to read more. I do feel “Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series”, Book #4, should be read in order. While  it was not difficult to catch up, I think one book builds on the order.

This is the story of Wesley March, hot, local fire spotter and Kit Jernigan, local K-9 officer. Set in a small mountain town, Monroe. A new twist on an old plot, this time the female is the savior. Steady paced,  with action, Romance,  a murderer,  suspense, passion, a tracker bloodhound, and more. Unpredictable and unique. Although,  I did feel like the ending was missing something,  it was an enjoyable and satisfying read.  #NetGalley, #ThroughtheFire,#RomanticSuspense,#Sourceboobs

Excerpt:

Toward the far end of the attic, Jean came upon a row of leather trunks bound in brass. Resettling her lamp securely, she opened the first. The scent of camphor wafted out at her. Pushing aside a layer of tissue paper, she unearthed a swath of satin brocade in an exquisite shade of peach. Although the fashion of another era, it was one of the loveliest gowns she’d ever seen.

There was no one around, and she was so tired of the few outfits she had with her. She couldn’t resist. She slipped off her much plainer gown, placing it out of the dust on a sheet of tissue, and slithered her way into the peach creation.

The dress was a bit large on her. Fortunately, it laced up the side so she could reach to pull it tighter, but the shoulders still threatened to slip off. Her shift and stays showed above the low neckline, and without the elaborate underpinnings such a garment required, the skirt sagged around her in heavy folds. Even so, she felt very grand.

“Very elegant,” said an appreciative male voice.

Jean whirled and nearly lost the dress. She frowned at Lord Furness, who stood near the head of the attic stair, as she pushed the shoulders back into place. “What are you doing here?”

“This is my house.”

“Yes, but you went riding.”

“And I returned.” Benjamin strolled toward his disheveled houseguest. In his ancestress’s gown, Miss Saunders was an unsettling combination of little girl playing dress-up and lush courtesan, with her clothes falling off and her curling hair making a determined break for freedom.

She gathered the heavy skirts and retreated to a rank of trunks a little distance away. “I was just… I’ll put on my own gown.”

Benjamin walked a bit closer.

“If you will go away.”

“But I came up to help you look for toys for Geoffrey.” It was an increasing delight to tease her. There was something so charming about the look she got, which said she knew precisely what he was up to and refused to stoop to acknowledge it. And yet she couldn’t help but react.

“I haven’t found any.”

“Only a hoard of finery.” Benjamin walked along the row of trunks and glanced inside them. He picked up a satin coat. “I think I remember my grandfather wearing something like this, with lots of lace at his shirtfront. Perhaps it was this very coat.” He held it up and looked closer. “I’m not sure. He died when I was around Geoffrey’s age.” He smiled at his disheveled companion. “Grandpapa didn’t care much for change at the last. Or for what people thought of his appearance. He wore what he liked.” Geoffrey would have appreciated that attitude, Benjamin thought. “He had a dueling scar across his cheek.” His hand went to his own face to demonstrate. “A bit puckered and quite frightening, as I recall. They don’t seem to go together—all this frippery and bloody sword work.”

“I imagine gentlemen took off their coats when dueling,” replied Miss Saunders.

Benjamin laughed.

“You should try it on,” she added in an odd tone.

He looked at her, hands clutching the brocade bodice to keep it from sliding off, a beam of sunlight shining through the uninhibited glory of her hair. Holding her gaze, Benjamin slowly took off his coat. “No wigs,” he said. “I draw the line there.”

“I haven’t found any,” she answered breathily.

He donned the bright satin garment. It fit well enough, only a little tight in the shoulders. It felt strange to have wide skirts around his legs. He made an elaborate bow. “Pon rep, my lady, I am so pleased to see you. I hope I find you in better health?”

“What do you mean, better?”

Benjamin straightened. “I’ve been concerned about you since—”

“I’m fine,” she interrupted. “My…outburst in the library was quite uncharacteristic, I assure you. It won’t happen again.”

“No apology is necessary.”

“I wasn’t apologizing.” Coppery glints snapped in the depths of her eyes. “Only informing you that all is well.”

He didn’t believe her, though he couldn’t have said why. Her bearing and expression were calm, her manner quelling. Clearly, she didn’t want to talk about the bout of weeping, and he had no right to press her. Why should he wish to? “I don’t know how ladies moved about in those gowns.” He indicated the sweep of peach brocade trailing over the floorboards.

“With stately elegance,” she replied.

“That is to say, very slowly. Have you seen the sort of shoes they wore? Teetering along on four-inch heels must have made it hard to run away.”

“From what?” she asked with a quizzical glance.

“Anything.” Benjamin had spoken randomly. All his attention was on her, leaving his tongue unsupervised. “Bears.”

“Bears?” She laughed.

It was a delightful sound. Benjamin realized he hadn’t heard it nearly often enough. Irresistibly drawn, he stepped closer. “Or impertinent admirers.”

“The gentlemen wore heels, too,” Miss Saunders said. “So it would have been an equal race, mincing along the cobblestones in a satin-draped procession.”

She looked up at him, still smiling. Her eyes were suffused with warmth now, her lips a little parted, and Benjamin couldn’t help himself. He moved closer still and kissed her.

Just a brush of his mouth on hers, an errant impulse. He pulled back at once.

She leaned forward and returned the favor, as if purely in the spirit of experiment. Benjamin felt a startling shudder of desire.

In the next moment, she’d twined her arms around his neck, and they were kissing as if their lives depended on it. He buried his fingers in her hair, as he’d been longing to do for days. It sprang free and tumbled over his hands, a glorious profusion of curls. Hairpins rained onto the attic floor.

Then she pulled back and blinked at him, her eyes wide, dark pools. Her arms dropped to her sides. She took a step away, and another. “Oh.”

The small sound was a breath, a worry, an astonishment. Benjamin struggled with his arousal, glad now of the long, concealing coat.

Miss Saunders put her hands to her wild crown of hair. The lovely lines of her body were outlined in peach brocade and sunlight. “Oh dear.”

“I could help pin it up, if you like.” Benjamin bent and gathered a handful of hairpins.

“No, you couldn’t.”

He gave her the pins. “I have a deft hand,” he said.

“My hair is beyond deftness. It has to be wrestled into submission.”

He nearly lost his careful control at the phrase and the thoughts it elicited. “I have strong fingers.”

My thoughts

A Fierce Wind by Regan Walker is a  magnificent Georgian Romance!  While, book 3 in the “Donet Trilogy”, it can be read as a stand alone. It does have appearances from characters from previous books, which I love catching up with them.
Set in 1794 France and England,  during the French Revolution when the Terror seizes France by the throat, and complicates lives.
Fast paced with believable,  engaging and charming characters. Loved the storyline!! Well crafted with intrigue,  adventure,  danger, mystery, spies and romance. Readers will be glued to the pages as they follow Zoé Ariane Donet and Frederick West, a British spy, on their journey to helping French
émigrés fleeing Robespierre’s Reign of Terror and finding their own  HEA.
Beautifully written story which weaves historical details with Historical fiction. Mesmerizing story with a climatic ending. Regan Walker never disappoints her readers with her vivid descriptions or her art of storytelling.

Excerpt

Callum heard the whine of the pulley on the rope.

His stomach dropped as he stared at the curtain wall, rooted to the ground in disbelief and fear. Only one person he knew would be forced to escape the castle like that.

When the clouds drifted from the moon and the shape of a woman appeared from the darkness, barely hanging on to a rickety pulley, he knew it had to be Maggie. Her wild hair streamed behind her as she streaked toward them from high above.

“Lord have mercy,” Artair said. Beside him, Gill made the sign of the cross.

“Christ Almighty, she’s going too fast,” Drustan croaked, sounding as helpless as Callum felt.

She was bare-legged again, her skirts tied up between her legs, and when he saw her lift them up to the rope, it propelled him into motion.

He jumped from his horse directly to the tree and climbed as fast as he could, passing Finn on his way down. Dread tightened Callum’s chest. He wouldn’t make it in time to catch her or soften the impact. Then he heard a bang and the sound of the pulley dragging on the rope, and he knew she’d popped it off the track to slow herself down.

By God, she might make it after all if the rope didn’t fray.

Resourceful woman!

He drew even with the lookout and saw her glide into view and bump arse-first into the tree. Seconds later, a gust of laughter burst from her lungs before she clamped a hand over her mouth. All his fear turned to relief, then boiled into anger over what might have happened—just as it had when she’d been chased up the tree by the wolves.

He had to squeeze the words past the tightness of his throat and clenched jaw. “Maggie MacDonnell, if I e’er find you up a tree again, lucky to be alive, I swear I’ll lock you in my bloody castle and throw away the key!”

She yelped in surprise and almost fell, but her harness held, and she tipped halfway over instead. “Callum?”

He hauled himself up beside her on the platform as she scrambled to right herself. Her skirts fell back to her ankles. He steadied her as he lifted his knife above her head and sawed viciously at the rope. Moments later, it gave way, fell to the ground, and slithered back to the castle.

His emotions careened inside him, all tangled up and whipped into a frenzy like her hair from the pulley ride. Without any thought, consumed by raw need and want, he tucked the knife into his belt and hauled her against him, tight and hot.

Her startled breath fanned his lips as his hand squeezed high on the back of her thigh, pulling it around him.

“Callum MacLean!” She sounded shocked and breathless but not admonishing. Her fingers curled into his waist, anchoring herself instead of pushing him away.

He sank his other hand into the mass of curls at the back of her head and held her in place. Her eyes met his for just a second, and he knew she wanted the same thing he did—wanted him to devour her, to reaffirm that she’d made it, that she was alive!

He caught her mouth without warning, lips open, tongue stroking in, tasting her, savoring her, until neither one of them could breathe. He nibbled down her throat, his hand sliding along her thigh to her knee.

“I’ve dreamt of this, of you, every night since we’ve been apart.” Voice rough, he sounded almost feral.

She answered with a groan as he slipped his hand under her skirts and cupped her thigh, trailing his fingertips along the sensitive inner muscles. They quivered against his palm, and her breath rasped through her lungs. When he reached the top, she gasped, rocked her hips toward him, her heel lifting higher to push into his backside.

He pressed closer and inhaled her scent—the smell of fresh air and sunshine and that unique bouquet of Maggie that he would sometimes wake to even though she wasn’t there.

He knew he should stop, that they weren’t safe yet, but his need for her overwhelmed rational thought. His body was so filled with lust, with feelings, that he could barely reason and strained to sink into her warmth.

He lifted his head and watched her in the moonlight. Her eyes had closed, her mouth had parted. When he skimmed his fingertips along the crease at the top of her leg, her throat arched and lips quavered on her sudden inhalation.

She released his waist and slid her hands up his back to tangle in his hair, pulling and twisting in the short strands.

“We are betrothed, Maggie,” he ground out. “All we need is this final intimacy, then before God and man, we’ll be married. We doona need a priest. Let me join with you, sweetling.”

She groaned and opened her eyes. “I canna believe you’ve asked me this. We’re in a bloody tree, surrounded by our enemies. Your men are just below!”

The low, rough timbre of her voice sent shivers up his spine. “We’re alive. When I saw you flying down that rope, knowing you could fall at any moment, going too fast to land safely…” His throat tightened, and he couldn’t continue.

She pressed her cheek against his, her breath huffing past her lips in warm bursts of air. Every puff sent a jolt down to his groin, tightening his stones. When her teeth dragged over his stubble, he knew it was with a mix of desire and anger, and he wanted to bite back.

“You left me,” she accused, her voice filled with hurt, with fury.

“Aye, and I’m sorry. My father died, Maggie. They whispered he committed suicide, but I knew it was murder. I couldnae keep you safe at my home until I had answers.”

He released her leg and cupped his hands around her face, brought her gaze to his. “But this time, I came back. I left so I could return to the castle and save you.”

“I didn’t need you to save me. I needed you not to leave.”

My thoughts

Bedded Under the Christmastide Moon by Christina McKnight is a delightful Holiday Regency Romance. A short novella, approximately 100 pages. I read it in one setting. The characters are charming. The storyline was a quick, simple romance, with little intimacy, the buildup to the couples relationship, I felt needed more. Second chances,  misunderstandings and broken hearts, Christmas surprises and finding a HEA, are the essence of BEDDED UNDER THE CHRISTMASTIDE MOON. A nice holiday read. I do look forward

Excerpt

As Qae lifted his drink to take another mouthful, the door opened and a woman walked in. Not just any woman. This one was a crowd-stopper. Literally. The bar fell almost completely silent as she paused just inside the doors. She swept a confident gaze around the bar like she owned the place, and he suddenly got the feeling his luck was about to change. Okay, so maybe that feeling was a kind of warm, tingly one starting somewhere south of his weapon’s belt and radiating outward. But never let it be said he didn’t go for what he wanted, no matter the odds. The crowd parted for her as she walked forward, giving him a better glimpse of her leanly muscled figure, all sleek and moving deadly like a panther. She came across as lethal and feminine in the same breath, something he couldn’t ever ignore.

Half of her straight, black hair was swept carelessly up, braided and clipped back, the rest falling to the middle of her back. It was a little tousled from the wind, but sexy, making him want to grab a fistful of it while he kissed the hell out of her. He couldn’t quite make out the color of her eyes from here, but they looked like they might be some shade of blue.

“Put your tongue back in your head before you lose it.”

Qae swiveled on his barstool to see Wyl sending him a warning glare that held a hint of exasperation. Qae knew Wyl’s cautioning didn’t stem from jealousy or anything. They’d both enjoyed that night together a few months ago, but in the same instance, neither of them had been looking for anything more.

“She spoken for? Got some hulking, psychotic boyfriend who’ll cut it out for me if he catches me looking?”

“More like she’ll cut it out herself.” Wyl sliced a glance at where she slid onto a stool at the opposite end of the bar and motioned to him. He nodded to acknowledge her then returned his attention to refilling Qae’s drink. “I’ve known her since she was twelve. I might have only been ten, but even then, a smart guy wouldn’t mess with her. They call her Lilith, but it’s not her real name.”

“Lilith?”

Wyl braced a hand on the bar and leaned forward. “You know, the demon princess of hell? You didn’t notice how pretty much everyone in the bar got looking busy real fast when she walked in?”

Instead of turning him off, his interest was caught like small meteors going into a ship’s engine. It was a wonder he didn’t know who she was, since everyone else seemed to, and he’d been on the Belt a year now. But maybe it was one of those ships-passing-in-the-dark thing where he happened to be off-world whenever she was around and vice versa. He couldn’t help slipping a covert look along the bar to where she was tapping something into the commpad in her hand. Wyl made an incredulous noise. “Seriously, that made you more interested? You’re one twisted bastard, Forster.”
