Moonlight & LoveSongs

So without further ado, set back and enjoy your visit!!

MBA&M: Alyssa, we are so glad to have you with us again. For those who may not know you please tell our readers a little about yourself?

ALYSSA: Glad to be back! I’m a writer and freelance editor, at least, when I’m not working at my day job. I’m also slightly obsessed with all things French, as well as detective pulp fiction and old movies.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers what your inspiration was for your latest release, “Moonlight & Love Songs”?

ALYSSA: I was looking to branch out, and to write a M/M romance for the first time. I’d written a few scenes previously as experiments (which shall never see the light of day), and I wanted to tackle a full-length work. Also, the character of Benoit, the pianist from THE PARIS GAME, intrigued me, and I wanted to know more about him.

MBA&M: What are some of the challenges in writing a Gay Romance/M/M Romance and a Noir Romance, all in the same story?

ALYSSA: In writing M/M romance (as in lesbian romance), the biggest challenge is the pronouns. In het romance, it’s easy. He or she. But when it’s two ‘he’ or two ‘she’, then things can get confusing.

In injecting noir into the romance, it’s all about adding that touch of bleakness to the narrative, and to focus on characters that are anti-heroes. This book isn’t as consciously ‘noir’ as THE PARIS GAME was, but it definitely has a bittersweet taste.

MBA&M: Have you meet much oppression in writing a Gay Romance?

ALYSSA: Not especially, though some of my family is a bit perplexed that I’m writing gay/lesbian romance instead of het. Hopefully reading some of my work will expand their tastes a little. My uncle, Jon, one of my strongest supporters, was utterly delighted that I chose to write M/M.

MBA&M: We understand “Moonlight & Love Songs” is book 2 in the Le Chat Rouge series. What will be next, if you can tell us at this point?

ALYSSA: There are two more stories forthcoming in the series, and more in the works. In December, the novella THE CHRISTMAS GAME will be released. It takes place prior to the events of THE PARIS GAME. Marc Perron is in London just before Christmas, and he’s lonely. He meets a lovely young woman named Madelaine, and they embark on a game of wagers, each more erotic than the last.

And in spring 2014, THE LONDON GAME will be released. It takes place several months after the events of THE PARIS GAME. I’m still working on that one, though, so I won’t tell you any more just yet!

In non-Le Chat Rouge series news, my lesbian romance THE ARTIST’S MUSE has been published with Bold Strokes Books. It too is set in Paris.

MBA&M: What made you decide a setting in France?

ALYSSA: When I first started writing this series, I was motivated to set it in France because I’d been there in 2003, and I was pining to go back. Writing about it helped me from getting too homesick for France. I did get there again this spring, and being in Paris (and Versailles, and Chartres) really helped inspire my recent writing.

MBA&M: What was the hardest scene to write?

ALYSSA: Daniel’s drug-taking scenes were the hardest for me to write. Partly because they were often bleak and sad, but also because I had a lot of research to do beforehand. Not being a drug-user, my knowledge of hard drugs was limited to films like THE LAST MINUTE and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.

MBA&M: What advice would you give to any aspiring authors?

ALYSSA: Write. Write a lot. Finish what you start. Take classes on plotting and outlining, setting, structure, and network with other writers. Get a critique partner or several. A good critique group is worth its weight in gold and can do amazing things for your writing.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where they may connect with you and where they may purchase your latest release “Moonlight & Love Songs”?

ALSYSSA: The book is available in paperback through Amazon and Createspace, and is available in ebook from Amazon, and Smashwords. I’m still waiting for it to come through at B&N, and Kobo.

Congratulations on your releases, sounds like a very exciting time for you and your career. As always, such a pleasure to have you visit with us and our readers. Good luck on your future endeavors!!

Moonlight & LoveSongsSynopsis:

When Le Chat Rouge’s pianist, Benoît Grenier, meets the club’s new singer, his world is turned upside down. He’d given up ever finding someone to love. His hopes and dreams of a life beyond the club are revived, while his heart heals.

Daniel Marceau has come from Marseille, looking to escape bad decisions and worse memories. He never expected to fall in love, and when his past catches up with him it could ruin the only thing he’s ever found worth living for.

Daniel’s fears and his reluctance to ask Benoît for help could cost them everything they’ve worked so hard to create.

Praise for Moonlight & Love Songs:

“Gritty and romantic, Moonlight and Love Songs will steal your heart, sell it for drugs, and leave you with a song. It’s dark and sexy, an unflinching portrayal of two soul mates discovering in each other the foundation upon which all love depends—hope.” — Miranda Baker, author of the Come Again series

“They call Paris “The City of Light”, but Alyssa Linn Palmer reveals its darker side in Moonlight & Love Songs. She pulls no punches in this noir romance. Damaged people meet and fall in love, but some cravings are too powerful to resist, and sometimes love alone isn’t enough to quell them. Classic jazz tunes and French chansons provide the soundtrack to a story that hits you in the gut and in the heart. You’ll never see Paris the same way again.” —  Cathy Pegau, author of Rulebreaker and Caught In Amber
