I’m a Canadian author with a keen interest in genealogy. I write medieval romance about family honour, ancestry, and roots. My novels are intimate love stories full of passion and adventure.Passion conquers whatever obstacles a hostile medieval world can throw in its path. My page-turning adventures have earned me a place on Amazon’s All-Star list.

Besides writing, I have two addictions-crosswords and genealogy, probably the reason I love research. I am a fool for cats. My husband is an entrepreneur who is fond of boasting he’s never had a job.

MY THOUGHTS
The Taking of Ireland by Anna Markland is a great Irish Fantasy Romance.
This is the story of Aislinn, a sorceress, prophecess and a seer, of the Clan Tuatha and bond servant to the High King of Inisfail, Moqorr. A very beautiful lady, under an evil King’s spell or is she truly under his spell? Sibrán, the Prince of Galicia, from Coruna, is on a journey to the Fort of Kings, seeking revenge for the death of his uncle and crew, by the High King of Inisfail’s hand.

Well written, with enticing characters and a unique storyline set against a Medevial Ireland background. While, at first it took me a bit to adjust to the names, which didn’t take me long, it was a captivating tale of good vs evil, myths, legends, magic, the otherworld, ancient Ireland, destiny, passion, vengeance, and love. Will Sibrán and Aislinn be able to defeat Moqorr and find their HEA, save the people of the Fort of Kings or lose all to their fate?
A powerful and captivating look into the Ancient World of Ireland, their fascinating myths and legends and the struggles faced even in ancient times. I enjoyed the H/H, their passion for people, and their desire to find an answer to their delimmas.
Anna Markland has once again proven herself a masterful storyteller and she never disappoints her readers with her power to intrigue and captivate her readers. I enjoyed “The Taking of Ireland” and look forward to the next adventure. A great read for fans of Irish legends, myths, magic and the promise of life and love. Another enjoyable read by Anna Markland! I strongly recommend reading “The Taking of Ireland”.

Two of Scottish romance’s most loved authors have joined pens to write a thrilling new time travel series filled with passion, danger, and intrigue. These never-before-published novels will sweep you to Scotland’s Highland Heatheredge, where magic is real, time is relevant, and there is no escape from desire…

Men are disappearing in the Highland crofting village of Heatheredge. The authorities suspect foul play, but without signs of violence—or bodies—they can’t prove a thing.

World champion swordsman Cailean Ross is living the fantasy of a lifetime as the victor of Heatheredge’s medieval reenactment Gathering. But when the fantasy turns into reality, swordplay becomes a fight to the death and he finds himself among the ‘missing’ statistics.

Julianna Mackay flees a man she fears is an evil wizard and literally runs into handsome Cailean Ross. Cailean defends Lady Julianna from her attackers. Together, they set out in search of the key to a six-hundred-year-old curse that can only be broken in medieval Scotland.

When the veil of time is lifted, Cailean and Julianna find that love may not be enough to save them or those they hold dear.

MY THOUGHTS

Edge of Yesterday by Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a magical Time Travel and more. Book 1 in the new and thrilling “Edge” series. Set against the back drop of Scotland’s Highland Heatheredge, where magic and time are relevant.
Men are disappearing from a small village, with no bodies, or signs of violence, how can foul play be involved?

This is Cailean Ross, a world champion swordsman and Julianna Mackay, who flees a man she fears is an evil wizard’s tale.

The plot flows seamlessly. The characters are engaging, captivating, and well matched. The story is fast paced and masterfully written.
These authors are two of my favorite authors. They pull readers into their stories and holds captivated. I couldn’t put “Edge of Yesterday” down, it was so thrilling.

In, “Edge of Yesterday”, readers will find suspense, mystery, intrigue, danger, a wicked wizard, a six hundred year old Scottish curse, and a romance that crosses time, itself. Everything a Romance and Time Travel fan could possibly wish in a great story. Plus a set on the edge of your seat plot! What a tangle of excitement!
WOW! I can’t wait to read the next installment. There story has somewhat of a cliffhanger, leading readers into Book 2, but this book has a satisfying ending. A must read by Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder! Great job, ladies! I highly recommend reading “Edge of Yesterday”, you will not go wrong!

 Excerpt

Cullen hadn’t expected Mia Carter to be so . . . amazing. He’d never seen a woman fight with such passion or with movements so beautiful that he’d found himself watching her instead of finishing off the Colombian.

For the first time in Cullen’s life, he couldn’t find words. He could only stare at the beautiful woman with one thought—Valkyrie.

She was the epitome of what he imagined the winged creatures of Norse mythology would look like. All she needed was armor and a sword to complete his vision.

Now, as he sat in the cockpit of the British WWII Bristol Buckingham C. MK 1 plane, also known as the Bristol Type 163 Buckingham, he couldn’t keep his eyes off her.

Beautiful didn’t begin to describe this incredible woman. Every time her steely black gaze fringed with impossibly thick lashes turned his way, he became entranced. Her eyes were large and slightly tilted up at the corners.

He forgot to breathe as he took in her unblemished, sun-kissed face. With high cheekbones and wide, full lips, he was smitten.

Wisps of inky black hair escaped from her ponytail to fall along the narrow column of her neck. An olive tee skimmed her torso to show mouthwatering curves, and black denim showcased her lithe legs to perfection.

“It was Orrin who approached me,” she said.

That didn’t surprise him. His father had always had a gift for finding talent and using it to his advantage. “When?”

“A few years ago.”

It made Cullen wonder what else his father had been up to. While he and his brothers were off building their lives, Orrin Loughman had been setting up a team of Black Ops members to do some of the dirtiest jobs.

One of the missions, put together by the DOD, had sent Orrin and his team to Russia to steal a bioweapon.

Except something had gone terribly wrong. Someone betrayed Orrin Loughman. In the process, he’d been kidnapped, and his team was executed.

The last person to see his father was the woman sitting next to Cullen.

The years he’d spent as a Marine Force Recon captain had taught him many things. He knew how to fight his way out of various situations using his hands, body, and mind. He knew how to spot lairs and traitors. He also had dozens of rescues to his name.

He was damn good at his job. But he had to be more than good now. His father’s very life depended on it.

“How did you find me?” Mia asked.

“I went to the Air Force Base. When you weren’t there, I went to General Davis’s office. It seems they keep a record of every flight you make.”

Her lips compressed. “That they do.”

“To my benefit. If I hadn’t arrived, you would either be dead or in Camilo’s care. Neither of which sounds appealing.”

“I already thanked you.”

“Yes, ma’am. You sure did.” He linked his fingers over his stomach. There was something about Mia Carter he found compelling, and it had nothing to do with her beauty. She was very much like him, he suddenly realized.

Wary of the world with a look of cynicism she didn’t bother to hide.

“Tell me how a pilot with your skills is able to have a hangar on a base, work for the military as a contractor, and still be able to take jobs with criminals. Because let’s be honest . . .  Camilo was a criminal.”

“It won’t matter what I give you as an explanation. You’ve already formed an opinion,” she replied coolly.

In fact, he had formed an opinion. He suspected that she liked danger. She also loved to fly. Combine the two, and she was in heaven.

“You were telling me about how you and my father began working together,” he said, getting them back on topic.

She cut him a look with her black eyes. “What you really want to know is if I betrayed him. As I told Callie—and everyone listening on the phone that day—it wasn’t me.”

“I do remember that call. Though I’ve learned that people say a lot of things that aren’t the truth.”

“You want the truth?” she asked, turning her head to him. “I’ll tell you the truth. I hated taking orders, so I left the Air Force as soon as I could. But I wasn’t ready to give up flying. It’s my life.”

That much he could tell. It was in her blood.

baron_coverWilliam Sloane did not believe in the ability to commune with the spirit world. Hell, he didn’t even believe there was a spirit world.

Yet here he sat, inside a ramshackle theater in the Tenderloin district, watching this audacious spectacle. Madam Zolikoff, she called herself. The mystifying medium who could commune with spirits and perform extraordinary feats. The woman was the worst actress he’d ever seen—and Will had seen plenty.

Eyes closed, she swayed and waved her hands, all while chanting. The man across from her, one she’d pulled up onstage, stared, enthralled, as Madam attempted to speak to his dead mother. The electric lights overhead flickered, and the audience tittered.

“Ah! I think we are close!” she announced loudly in an appalling Russian accent.

Will nearly rolled his eyes. Was anyone really buying this charade?

Shifting in his uncomfortable seat, he took in the meager audience. About twenty men and women, all average-looking, a far cry from the extravagant crowd he usually associated with. No diamond tiaras or ostrich feathers here, just derby hats and plain bonnets. But every pair of eyes was trained on the young woman working the stage.

She was attractive, he supposed, if one preferred liars and cheats, which he most definitely did not. Still, her pale blond hair showed off her striking light brown eyes. Straight, delicate nose. High cheekbones. Arching brows. Full lips painted a scandalous red.

He liked those lips. Quite a lot, in fact. If he were dead, those lips alone might bring him back.

“I hear her!” A steady rapping reverberated around the room. An accomplice, no doubt, yet the audience gasped.

“Mr. Fox, your mother is here with us now. What would you like to ask her?”

The man onstage asked simple questions for the next fifteen minutes, with Madam Zolikoff “interpreting” the dead mother’s answers. Will absently rubbed his stomach, anger burning over this performance, that she would take advantage of someone’s grief in such a profoundly fraudulent way. When Will’s own mother had died, he’d fervently wished for something—anything—to bring her back. Nothing had, however, and he’d been left in a cold house with an even colder man.

Madam Zolikoff prattled on, regaining his attention. Had this woman no shame? No empathy for the heartbreak that went along with losing a loved one? For the first time since he sat down, he looked forward to the confrontation with her.

He planned to shut the medium down. Run her out of Manhattan, if necessary, because she was standing in the way of something greater, a different sort of power than he possessed now, but one of greater import. A power he would not fall short of achieving.

John Bennett, a former New York State senator and current gubernatorial candidate, had asked Will to partner on the ticket as lieutenant governor. It was something Will’s father had always wanted, to wield political influence, yet he’d died before his political career could take wing. Now Will would be the Sloane achieving that goal—and dancing on his father’s grave after he and Bennett won.

But John Bennett had a weakness, one by the name of Madam Zolikoff. Seemed the madam had dug her hooks into Bennett, and the candidate would not listen to reason regarding the dangers this presented. But Will wasn’t about to allow her to jeopardize Bennett’s political career—or his own. They could not afford a scandal six months before the election.

When the performance finally ended, Will didn’t bother clapping or stamping his feet like the other patrons. He rose, turned on his heel, and headed straight for the door he’d learned would take him backstage.

No one stopped him. More than a few curious glances were thrown his way and he tugged his derby lower to obscure his face. He’d run Northeast Railroad for the last thirteen years and came from one of the most prominent families in New York. The name Sloane was as well known as Astor, Stuyvesant, and Van Rensselaer. Consequently, Will had never shied from public attention, but he’d rather not be recognized here.

For several minutes, he cut through the long hallways in the bowels of the theater. Now at the door to her dressing room, he knocked. A slide of a lock and then the door opened to reveal a brunette woman in a black shirtwaist and skirt, the same costume she’d worn on stage. Her lips were still painted a deep red. He inclined his head ever so slightly. “Madam Zolikoff.”

“Come in, please.” Her voice was deep and husky, a sultry tone more suited to a bedroom than a stage. Thankfully, there was no trace of that ludicrous Russian accent she’d used in front of the crowd. Perhaps this conversation would not be as difficult as he’d feared.

She stepped aside. “I’ve been expecting you, Mr. Sloane.”

No surprise she knew his face, but had she noticed him in the audience? Three steps brought him inside her dressing room, if one could call a space no bigger than a cupboard a “room.” Not enough square footage existed here to allow for more than the small table and chair already in place. A mirror hung on the wall above the table, and a blond wig rested on a stand atop said table. With nowhere to go, he folded his hands behind his back.

She glided around him and lowered into the sole chair, facing away from him, and reached for a cloth. He watched in the mirror as she slowly swiped the cloth over her mouth to remove the lip color. She didn’t rush and Will had plenty of time to study her mouth. He highly suspected the display another type of performance, one designed to throw him off balance.

“Is there another name I may call you, other than your stage name?”

“No.”

“I feel ridiculous calling you Madam Zolikoff.”

“That is your problem, not mine.” Finished with her cloth, she dropped the scrap to the table and caught his gaze in the mirror. “We are not friends, Mr. Sloane, so let’s not pretend otherwise. I know why you are here.”

“Is that so?” He hadn’t expected her to be so forthright. In his mind, she’d been meek and frightened, concerned over the unpleasantness a man in his position could bring down on a woman in her position. But this woman seemed neither meek nor frightened. “And why am I here?”

“You want to scare me away from John. Get him away from my evil clutches.” She wriggled her fingers menacingly on this last sentence. “How’s that?”

“Good. This saves us both time. Now you may agree to never see Bennett again, stop bilking him out of hundreds of dollars, and stay out of his life forever.”

“Bilking him?” Her lip curled, drawing Will’s attention back to her mouth, damn it. “I’ve got news for you, mugwump, I’ve earned every dollar providing services to your friend—and not those kind of services, either. John and I are strictly business.”

Will smirked. He’d never met an unmarried man and woman who spent hours together with money exchanged who were “strictly business.” “Miss whomever you are, I don’t care what kind of lies you’re shoveling out there to audiences, but I’m not some rube fresh off the farm. I know what you’re about, and all of it stinks.”

“Oh, indeed? So what am I about, then?”

“Blackmail. And if he doesn’t pay, you’ll take whatever personal details you’ve learned about him to the papers and turn him into a laughingstock. I will not let that happen.”

She rose, and, because of the tight space, this put her close enough to where he could see the hazel flecks in her brown eyes. Were those freckles on her nose? “I don’t care who you are or what you think of me. If you think I’m going to let some stuffed, pompous railroad man scare me away from my best client, you are dead wrong.”

MY THOUGHTS:

WICKED RIVALS by Lauren Smith is an excitng Regency/Scottish Historical Romance. Book 4 in the “League of Rogues”. What an exciting series this has been thus far!

Filled with passion, intrigue, betrayal, trust, forgiveness, healing and so much more. What a fantastic and exciting series, the “League of Rogues” has been!

I absolutely loved “Wicked Rivals”. From beginning to end, it is fast paced, with enticing and energetic characters and an intriguing storyline.

Follow, Ashton, Lord Lennox, a wealthy, powerful and strong-willed, and ruthless member of the “League of Rogues”. He is determined to find his enemy and destroy him, before he can destroy his friends.

Rosalind Melbourne, a widow and the daughter of a Scottish lord, who was cruel and ruthless.

Rosalind and Ashton are both business minded, strong-willed, and  control freaks. What a perfect couple! I enjoyed the interaction between Ashton and Rosalind, as the sparks fly and love blossoms, against all odds.

Historical fans will absolutely love “Wicked Rivals”. It has a wide range of emotions, with a compelling and powerful storyline. However, the reader is left with questions has to who is out to destroy the “League of Rogues” and why. A continuing saga!  Each book brings dramatic and intriguing characters.

Once again, Ms. Smith, has written a must read Historical Romance. What a brilliant storyteller!  Readers will find this series very addictive! An absolute must read!! I can’t wait for more of the “League of Rogues”.  “Wicked Rivals” was a real page turner. I hope you will pick up a copy of this amazing story. Well worth the time to read.

MY THOUGHTS:

MERRY COWBOY CHRISTMAS by Carolyn Brown is Book 3 in the “Lucky Penny Ranch”, but can be read as a stand alone. See, “Hot Cowboy Nights” and “Wild Cowboy Ways”. Readers will find re-appearing characters. A great Contemporary Holidays Western!

This is Fiona Logan and Jud Dawson’s story. A cute, humorous, sweet Southern Holiday story, with a captivating cast of characters, that will capture your heart and hold you glued to the pages of “Merry Cowboy Christmas”.

Can a wickedly sexy, Texas cowboy, who wears a stetson and has a Texan drawl, win the heart of a funny, smart girl from Houston, returning home after a failed marriage? Definitely makes for some humorous but touching moments with the wild weather reeking havoc, neighbors who are definitely nosy, a family with a new baby, and sizzling attraction between Jud and Fiona, will have readers turning pages. A Christmas miracle is in order! Can a Christmas miracle, and a few others things, help bring Jud and Fiona their HEA?

Ms. Brown has a way of telling a story that is mesmerizing, as well as captivating! She is such a talented author and never disappoints her readers. Her characters are realistic and engaging, her storylines are about everyday life, flawed characters, small town, sexy heroes and smart, feisty heroines. Readers will be caught up in a “Merry Cowboy Christmas”, and lose their hearts to Jud and Fiona. Oh my gosh, you can’t help but love this enduring, humorous, and wickedly sweet Cowboy Romance. “Merry Cowboy Christmas”, is such a special holiday romance! Once again, Ms. Brown has delivered! A must read Contemporary Holiday Western Romance. Fans of romance, Western stories, Modern day romances, Holiday stories and HEA, should pick up a copy today.

MY THOUGHTS:

Sunrise Crossing by Jodi Thomas is Book 4, in her amazing “Ransom Canyon” series. But can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would suggest reading the other three in this amazing series, but definitely not needed to follow “Sunrise Crossing”.

Once again, Ms. Thomas returns her readers to Ransom Canyon, for  another exciting visit to small town, USA, the people, and the goings on of a small town. Set in Crossroads, Texas. Where love thrives, the community works together, and looks after each other.

Yancy Grey, an ex-con, who has served his time for petty theft, is set on re-building his life, and restoring an old house. He is the caretaker of a group of Senior Citizens.  Parker Lacey, manages an art Gallery and is asked by  her star artist for her help, off to the sleepy town of Crossroads to goes. Gabe Snow, a drifter for years, after a horrible incident in his hometown of Crossroads, returns to his hometown, but can he rebuild his life?

In “Sunrise Crossing” readers will find more than one romance in the mix. In fact, there are at least three romances, interwoven into this story.

Another heartwarming, and charming story from Ms. Thomas. The “Ransom Canyon” series, just keeps getting better and better, to me.

The characters are well-developed, flawed and charming. They will capture your heart. The storyline is interesting, compelling, and exciting. Filled with endurance,  finding acceptance, with the beauty and sweetness of small town romances. Readers are offered a glimpse into small town life, a community that cares for one another, redemption, healing, forgiveness, and the promise of an HEA.

Once again, Ms. Thomas has written a tale with her usual aplomb. It is steady paced, with some very interesting characters, a few old ones and a few new ones added into the mix.

Ms. Thomas has a way of pulling readers into her stories and capturing their hearts, as they hope with all their hearts for a HEA for the characters. Through the struggles, and challenges they manage to find love and romance. Masterfully written!

Another hit for Ms. Thomas and her “Ransom Canyon” series, in my opinion. I can’t wait for the next installment, “Wild Horse Springs”, which will feature some very interesting characters and promises to be just as exciting as the others in this beautifully written series.

Fans of small town romances, the life of communities, finding true love through the challenges of life, and sweet romances, which are heartwarming and profound, will definitely enjoy “Sunrise Crossing”. You definitely don’t want to miss this amazing series! Enjoyable and a very satisfying read!

Winner Takes All Cover Image-1EXCERPT #1

The parking lot was almost empty as Blake left the field-house after the team’s win. He strolled toward his truck, keys dangling from one hand and his gym bag in the other. As he approached, he noticed a figure leaning against the driver’s side door.

A petite, luscious figure in a pair of tight jeans and a Blanco Valley High hooded-sweatshirt.

Just the sight of Annabelle turned his body on high alert. Over the past week, Blake hadn’t been able to get their kiss out of his mind. Not only the feel of her lips pressed to his, but how perfectly her body fit with his. Each one of her curves had molded seamlessly against his harder and bigger one, as though they were two pieces of the same puzzle.

And look at him with all the lame metaphors.

Blake approached the truck, twirling his keys around in his hand. Because if he didn’t keep them busy, he’d yank her away from the door and kiss her again.

“Hi,” she greeted when he stopped in front of her.

He tossed his bag in the bed of the truck. “Hey,” he replied. “You’re here awfully late.”

“I wanted to hang around and congratulate some of the kids. You guys played a good game tonight,” she told him.

“Thanks.” And why did her praise have to mean so much to him? The parents and the school district was what mattered. Not some hazel-eyed opinionated goddess.

Annabelle scraped the toe of her tennis shoe along the ground. And for some reason Blake found the movement endearing.

He was turning into such a pussy.

“Blake,” she said on a sigh. She pushed away from the truck and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I’m sorry,” she told him. “About before.”

“For what?” he wanted to know. “The kiss or the apology?”

She blinked at him and inhaled a deep breath. “For the way I acted afterward,” she clarified. “To be completely honest, I’m not sorry for kissing you. I thought that maybe…” Her words trailed off. “I thought I had taken you off guard and acted inappropriately. I didn’t want you to think I was being too forward. The sorry just kind of popped out before I could think.”

Blake pocketed his keys. “You did take me off guard. But that didn’t mean I didn’t like it as much as you did. I think we both know I did.” She’d been pressed up against him hard enough to feel the evidence between his thighs.

As though sensing his thoughts, Annabelle’s gaze dropped down, lingering long enough to elicit a reaction. “I think it’s safe to say we both liked it. A lot,” she added. “Probably too much, actually.”

“And how much is too much?” Because that was part of his confusion.

One of her shoulders moved. “To be honest, I’m not sure. I’m still trying to figure that one out.”

“Maybe we should try it again, just to see,” he suggested.

MY THOUGHTS:

WINNER TAKES ALL by Erin Kern is an interesting Sports Romance, set in small town Champion Valley, Colorado. Book 1 in Ms. Kern’s new “A Champion Valley Novel” series.

An adorable, and charming story, but a bit predictable. Slow to start with, so hang in there, it picks but nicely, after about the second or third chapter. A Small town, sports Romance, which is adorable, charming, and entertaining, with some bitter sweet topics. Boy meets girl or in this case, former football hero, meets, vulnerable, but resentful Physical Therapist.

Blake Carpenter, a former football hero, whose career spiraled out of control, ending his career, due to an injury. Annabelle Turner, is a recent divorcee, who is a bit resentful of her sister (who is a free-spirited). Annabelle is a tough, hard shell, Physical Therapist. While, Blake and Annabelle’s story  is not a unique tale, it is a tale of vulnerability, resentful,  a brooding football star, sensual tension, hope, promise and hoping for a  HEA.

“Winner Takes All” is a tale of healing, forgiveness, the darker side of professional sports, especially football (NFL), the consequences of a major injury, the feelings that occur after said injury, vulnerabilities, romance, with a bit of humor mixed into the story, and how one wrong decision can destroy one’s hopes and dreams, or does it just change one’s outlook and the direction of one’s life. Ms. Kern does a great job of step-by-step football strategies and plays.

It was interesting to watch Blake and Annabelle’s relationship grow, and develop into something more, with the help of some quirky, secondary characters. Oh, the life of small town romance! I do hope some of the secondary characters find their way into stories of their own!

A sweet Sports Romance, which, however, does have some strong language, which some readers find offensive. Otherwise, an entertaining, and enjoyable read. Please, note… it does not have any actual sex scenes.

Ms. Kern has done an excellent joy with her portrayal of the characters, the dark side of the sports world, the difficulties that occur due to one’s choices, small town life, and it’s quirks, and the promise of hope and healing. Fans of Sports Romance, Football, specifically NFL, the promise of love and the hope of achieving an HEA, will truly enjoy “Winner Takes All”.  I find it to be an enjoyable and satisfying read!
