About Patty Blount:

Patty Blount grew up quiet and somewhat invisible in Queens, NY, but found her voice writing smart and strong characters willing to fight for what’s right. Today, she’s the award-winning author of edgy, realistic, gut-wrenching contemporary and young adult romance. Still a bit introverted, she gets lost often, eats way too much chocolate, and tends to develop mad, passionate crushes on fictional characters…and actors like Gilles Marini….and Sam Heughan. Okay, so Patty’s not nearly as cool as her characters, but she is a solid supporter of women’s rights and loves delivering school presentations.

Patty is best known for her internet issues novels, including SOME BOYS, a 2015 CLMP Firecracker winner and RWA Rita Finalist, and SEND, a 2012 Junior Library Guild Fall Pick. Her upcoming release, SOMEONE I USED TO KNOW, has already been selected as a 2018 Junior Library Guild Fall Pick. Visit her website at pattyblount.com, where you can sign up for her newsletter. She blogs at YA Outside the Lines and is also active on Twitter and Facebook. When she’s not writing, Patty loves to watch bad sci-fi movies, live tweeting the hilarity, and scour Pinterest for ideas on awesome bookcases. Patty lives on Long Island with her family in a house that, sadly, lacks bookcases. She loves hearing from readers, especially when they tell her she’s cool (even though she knows it’s not true), and is easily bribed with chocolate. Never underestimate the power of chocolate.

Patty Blount

This novel is a companion story to my award-winning SOME BOYS. In this scene, Ian Russell, one of the main characters in Some Boys, meets Derek Lawrence in SOMEONE I USED TO KNOW.

~*~

Derek

A knot forms in my gut, a thick and oily clot of guilt. I sink on to the first bench I spot, clutching my middle and trying like hell not to puke. Damn it, I wish to hell I’d beaten the snot out of Victor Patton.

Came close to it.

“Hey, man.”

I twitch and find some guy sitting beside me. No idea where he came from. He’s older than I am, but not by much. Mid-twenties, maybe? Dark hair, dark eyes, some serious muscle.

I nod and shift away, willing my stomach to settle down.

“I’m gonna say something to you,” the guy says. “And you can tell me to buzz off, or you can listen. I see you sitting here, green around the gills, gripping one of those rally flyers, and see a look on your face I know well.”

I shift back to study him. He meets my gaze without flinching, and there’s something in his tone that tells me he’s not kidding.

“Somebody you love got assaulted,” he says, and before I can say anything—before I can even think of something to say—he adds, “Me too.”

I stare at him in disbelief. Are we supposed to do some kind of male bonding over rape…some sort of weird bro hug and then share our feelings? That kink in my gut unclenches, and my breakfast comes up and out. I manage to turn away before I ruin this guy’s day and spew into the bushes behind the bench. It takes a few minutes. When I’m finally empty and want to crawl into the gutter to die, the guy shoves a bottle of water into my field of vision.

“Take it. Keep it.”

Grateful, I crack the seal, chug, and rinse out my mouth. Then I take a nice gulp, sit back on the bench, and wipe my mouth. “Thanks,” I offer a few minutes later, when I’m sure I’m not dying.

“Yeah, no big.”

There’s a long pause. “Girlfriend?” he asks after a minute. And it takes me another minute to figure out he’s asking who I know that got raped. I shake my head.

“Sister.”

“Oh, man. I’m sorry.”

I only nod. What else is there to say? In silence, we watch the perky girl with the clipboard chase down two guys on Rollerblades to sign up for the rally.

He snorts out a laugh. “That girl has some serious fun attitude.”

I laugh, too. “That’s an oxymoron, no?”

Shrugging, he says, “Maybe. Never could keep those lit terms straight.”

That makes me wonder about him. “You’re not a student?”

“No,” he admits. “I graduated a few years ago. Degree in engineering. I work in the city now.”

“So what are you doing here?”

He sighs and looks back to the quad where Perky Girl’s got another pair of guys on the hook for rally duty. “Over there. Under the Rock Stock tent. Black boots.”

I scan the area, find the tent, and see a bunch of people under it. But the black boots do it for me. The girl is hot, like off-the- charts hot. Long wild hair, dark sunglasses, jeans, and a black shirt that’s held together with a series of metal rings. She looks like the lead singer from some hard rock band.

“Oh! I’m sorry. Was she—”

“Yeah. Back in high school. By my friend. At a party she only went to because she hoped I’d be there.”

“I’m sorry.” I sigh.

“I came over here to talk to you because you looked like— well, like a guy about to puke.”

My face gets hot. I swallow another gulp of water and look away. But I can’t deny I’m curious. “How do you…” Deal with it? Avoid killing the guy who did it? I wave my hand, trying to fill in that blank but coming up empty.

He angles his head, studying me. “Get over my guilt?”

Okay. That works, too.

He takes another look at the girl in the black boots and shrugs.

“Still working on it. Being here is part of it. She’s doing the keynote speech at the rally. Took me a while, but I finally figured out that therapy’s not so bad, either.”

My parents wanted us all to go to therapy, but I said no way. Maybe that was a mistake. “Can I ask you something?”

The guy nods.

I swallow more water. “You ever say something you can’t take back? Something that made her hate you.”

He grins and rolls his eyes. “God, yes. I can’t watch a Star Wars movie without wanting to kick my own ass.”

“Huh?”

He waves a hand. “Long story. I was a real dick to her, embarrassing her in front of my friends so they wouldn’t turn on me. She forgave me. Somewhere along the line, I figured out how to forgive myself so I could be the man she deserves.”

Forgive myself. That’s exactly what Brittany said. I consider that for a couple of minutes and then shake my head. “I gotta go.” I stand up. “Thanks for the water and for—” I wave a hand. “You know.”

“Yeah. No problem. Hope we see you at the rally. Trust me, she’s something.” He jerks a thumb toward the girl in the black boots, and I don’t doubt him for a second.

“Yeah. Maybe.”

He extends a hand. “Ian.”

I shake it. “Derek,” I say. “Thanks again.”

“Here.” He fishes through his pockets and comes out with a business card. “My cell number. I can help. If you want.”

I take off, tucking the card into my pocket along with the blue-and-white flyer. I don’t even know why I’m keeping them. It’s not like there’s any way Ashley’s gonna forgive me. I’m not even sure I can forgive myself. I’ll never be the hero again in her eyes.

Trent adjusted in his bed, his heart in his throat, what would he do if she

answered the way he feared her next question? “You don’t want children?”

“On the contrary. I just didn’t want children with him.” Her voice dropped

in both tone and volume. “There, now our dirty little secret is out in the

open.”

“Tamron?”

“What? What do you want me to say? God, you know Craig. He’s selfish and

only wants things someone else has. How long would it take him to become

bored with a baby and me as a mom? I never understood why he stayed so

long or asked me to marry him to start with.”

“Because I wanted you.” The words flew out before he could prevent them.

Her jaw dropped. “What are you talking about?”

“The first moment I saw you across the damned pub, I thought I had found

my soul mate.”

She paced, shaking her head. “No, that’s not right. You were interested in

Chrissie.”

“Are you kidding me? I was stuck with Chrissie, a woman who claimed an

association because our brothers happened to play rugby together during

Tony’s senior year. And because a decade before, I was at a party with her

when she was barely a teenager. By the time I could take my focus off her

without being rude, Craig had moved in, and I remained forever his wing

man.”

She stopped, arms crossed, staring out the window. For minutes that

seemed like hours, she remained silent, didn’t move or acknowledge his

statement. “Please say something. Damn it! I hate being tied to this bed.”

Stalking across the room before he could say anything else, she cupped his

face and brought her lips to his. Needing no other incentive, he pulled her

closer, his tongue taking the kiss deeper. She tasted of amber beer and the

spices from dinner and smelled divine. He had wanted this moment for so

long, now that he had her in his embrace, he relished it, took his time.

He wanted to remember this moment, every part of it. He pulled back,

searching her hazel eyes. With shaking fingers, he traced her face, learning

with touch what his eyes had memorized years ago. “You are so beautiful.”

“I’m plainly average.” She appeared to be doing the same as him. Her

fingers brushed the stubble on his chin.

“Not to me. I’ve studied every line and curve of your face, convinced your

skin couldn’t be as soft as I imagined.” She closed her eyes, moving into his

touch as he cupped her cheek. “Only to find it is softer than I could have

ever dreamed.”

“Did you? Dream, that is?” She turned into his palm, placing a kiss into the

center.

“I’ve dreamt of you more than any other dream. You’re the unattainable,

the one thing all my connections as a Sherman couldn’t help me obtain.

And yet, if I couldn’t touch you, hold you, I was happy for what scraps I

could get.”

“Why did you never say anything?”

“You were my best friend’s girlfriend then fiancée. I had to stand by and

stand up for another man when all I wanted to do was scream, ‘I do object

because I love her.’”

She pulled away. “You can’t love me.”

The Blue Fox bar, just outside the res from Flagstaff, where Wilson lived, was perfect. Like all the Ukiah dives Danny had spent time in, it was populated with pot growers and some over-the-hill hippies. Music choices ranged from Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash to Emilou Harris, the old ones. Seeing as they were in Arizona, it was also dotted with bikers and people just passing through. The legendary Route 66.
He and Wilson parted without him saying much at all about the revelation Wilson had made. Wilson threw the keys at Danny and took off. Danny grabbed a motel room and went searching to drown the spirits that wouldn’t stop their chatter.
A few local guys he knew from his childhood sat at dark tables in the corner, playing cards. As usual, they wore black, high crown felt hats; the same he used to watch White Owl make as he sat on his grandfather’s knee. Grandfather risked the ire of Danny’s mother by bringing him here starting as a boy of six; when he was old enough to not get into trouble. That was a long time ago.
He stalked over to the bartender, his cowboy boots knocking familiarly on the old plank floor that hadn’t been washed in a month. Returning to his roots required a couple doses of courage to smother the voices in his head. The singing way of his people was lilting up to the skies, no doubt announcing the arrival of Grandfather. He also heard the collective songs of his ancestors in celebratory response. It used to terrify him as a young boy, and it still did today. Especially today.
The place smelled of old piss and even older spilled beer. He’d forgotten how familiar the smells were, from a time when the world was simple, when all he worried about was making sure his balls didn’t get pinched because his skinny butt was perched on his grandfather’s thigh. It had been nearly thirteen years since he’d set foot in the Blue Fox, and yet it was like stepping back in time. Nothing had changed. Maybe that’s what terrified him most.
Scenes from his childhood tickled and danced all around him. White Owl would tell the stories, and Grandfather would request the music be turned down and would fill in the blanks, often correcting him. Grandfather was the keeper of the legends. He didn’t like embellishments or modern details.
“The old way is still the best. Been the best for hundreds of man-years. We honor those who came before to tell it to the young ones the way it was told to them. And then they can choose for themselves.”
White Owl told him in secret one day Grandfather had it in for him because White Owl got the girl Grandfather wanted to marry. But then his grandfather met Jenny, his grandmother, and all debts were forgotten. Not forgiven, just forgotten.
Music flooded the tiny, dark bar. The same twangy country tunes that hadn’t been played on the AM channels for thirty years and never on the XM, except for quaint oldies specials. These tunes debuted on eight-track tapes or LPs. Probably hadn’t been changed out of the jukebox since before he was born.
His grandfather had a whole collection of oldies in his garage. Danny and Wilson had tossed those precious records like flying saucers one afternoon, destroying the bulk of them. The two boys couldn’t sit down for nearly three days from the whipping they both got from Danny’s aunt, Wilson’s mother. They’d have gotten another one too if Grandfather had not been at a tribal meeting in Washington D.C. Something official was in the air that summer, and he spent a lot of it gone from the res.
Tonight, Danny was grateful for the fact that the music was loud. It competed with the shrill voices in his head which roared up in a near panic again when he tilted his forehead to the corner where the card players were.  They answered him back with stoic indifference. They knew who he was. He wasn’t really coming back. They knew why, knew Grandfather and everyone else on the res, and distrusted him because of it. They probably thought he was being Native American when it suited him, when he could show it off. A fair-weather Indian, they called it.
The crying wind and whispering voices died down as he approached the bar.
“Beer.”
He knew there was not much choice. He was served two Route 66 Specials, a brewery owned by an old friend of his father’s. The signal probably hadn’t changed in over twenty years: if you ordered one drink and the house gave you two, you only had to pay for one.
An exotic scent drifted his way. Turning in that direction, he imagined some Asian or Parisian hooker on his right. But her skin was like the way he drank his chai latte, a light caramel brown. Her high cheekbones contrasted with her shiny obsidian black hair, which was held with a large clip made of polished turquoise and silver—a classic Navajo beauty. She could have been the ghost of his dead sister.
It was usually hard for him to look at Navajo women and find them attractive, because all he could see was Natomi’s lifeless face staring back up at him, her warm brown skin a chalkish purple. He told himself over and over that he preferred women with hair the colors of the fall back in California or the color of spun gold like in his dreams.
She glanced at his beer and ordered the same without looking at him, but he knew she’d taken stock of him and had probably selected the stool next to him on purpose. Something at the base of his skull buzzed and his ears started to get red. It was a sign he was too familiar with and meant one of two things. She turned him on big time or there was impending danger. Maybe both. Many times he couldn’t tell the difference. Most of the time there was no difference.
The large mirror over the bar was cracked, but he saw her cool smile, one full lip with its edge upturned, revealing an old thin scar. Her dark eyes pulled at him and he knew her instantly to be a sucker of souls.
“You’re new,” she said to the mirror.
He could feel her breathing, imagined what her flesh would feel like if he smoothed his fingers down her thigh. “Actually, I’m not here at all.”
She turned on the stool, grabbing her beer, and took a sip while she examined him. She was still smiling when she was done.
“You look pretty f**kin’ here, Dine kind. But then, maybe I’m a ghost, too, and maybe I see dead people.”
That deserved his attention, so he allowed his body to turn, facing her, knees touching hers. Through the stiff denim of his jeans, he could feel her body vibrate like the inner workings of an expensive Swiss timepiece.
“I’m Danny Begay. My mother is Miwok. My father’s side is from the Corn Pollen Clan. Chester Begay is my grandfather. I believe he will die tonight.” He watched it sink in, and wondered if his traditional side made a difference to her. She bit her lip just below the slight scar that slashed her upper lip, probably from an old injury. It made her look dangerous and sexy as hell. A slight worry line creased her right eye with just a touch of a twitch.
She turned back to the counter, staring down as if examining the head on her beer, allowing her unpolished nail on her left forefinger to dip into the sudsy froth and draw a figure eight. “Then it sucks to be you.”
He had to agree with her. It sucked he’d never made much of himself, and now his Grandfather was going to die knowing that too. He wasn’t sure of his potential for spiritual growth anytime soon either. His cousin had just scared the liver out of him. That sucked, too.
That left only one option for this evening. To get drunk. Maybe get her so drunk she’d go back with him to the motel. He glanced around the room and didn’t see any white boys, so figured he’d have a chance with her. With any luck, neither one would remember a thing in the morning. He’d get the call Grandfather was gone. He could pay his respects, stay for the ceremony, and then get his butt out of Arizona and back to Northern California. Forget this sandy hellhole for as long as the drink lasted.
“I am Luci Tohe of the Where Two Waters Meet Clan,” she whispered.
He noted she was not a clan cousin. “So why are you here?” he started. “Cheaper to drink at home, and a whole lot less dangerous, the drive, I mean.” He was surprised by his own words.
She answered the mirror again. “I know what you meant, Dine kind. I teach at the school.”
“Ah. First choice or last choice?” He knew it was a risk to ask, but he couldn’t help himself.
She almost spit her beer out. “Gawd, it must be true. That old fart gave you some of those visions.”
He turned and tilted his head, wondering what she meant. She addressed him this time by angling slightly so her knees wouldn’t touch his again. Her face in partial profile was masked. She was trying to hide something. “I’m not a do-gooder. Not one of those. I get to hide in plain sight. But I do carry a gun.”
“Running from something?”
“Nope.” She licked her lips, her tongue lingering there a little long, her eyes again focused down on the counter. “I am the sole breadwinner and protector of my little tribe. My mother and my little sister.”
“Except you drink too much.” He knew she’d not like that comment.
“As do you. I can smell an alcoholic a mile away.” Then she gave him the sultry look he was waiting for. “I seem to be drawn to them, like a string of bad pennies, little babbling storytellers. Can’t help it. My nature, I guess.”
Well, she’d already said twice as many words as he normally liked in a woman, and hadn’t given him nearly enough “looks,” but he was game.
“Humor me. What makes you drawn to me?”
Her full focus on his face almost made him blush. Her power and nature were strong, her soul deep. She did not possess the need to smile from nervousness or to hide the spirit that ran wild inside her. For him, right here and right now, she allowed him to absorb and be warmed by it. Her dark eyes peered back at him honestly.
“I like your jet black hair, Dine man, and the blackness of your eyes all the way through. The bottomless eyes of the tribal kind. But you weren’t raised here, so maybe you got away, maybe not. In any case, I gotta hurry if I’m going to meet you, because I think tomorrow you’ll be gone.”
“True.” She had him down to the color of his buttons.
“I like your stare, your full lips, and your frankness. I think you like to screw a lot, and I do, too. But that could just be a lie, but ask me if I care?”
“Why would I do that?”
She gave him a gracious smile, showing all her straight white teeth. As if sloughing off an old happy memory, she shrugged and finished her beer. “I’m ready for another, if you’re buying.”
“Oh, I’m buying, but my tab comes with strings,” he said, watching the graceful lines of her profile, all the way down her long neck to the top of her shirt with her breasts pushing up like smooth rounded stones he’d find in an ancient streambed.
Her eyes didn’t peer into his, but stayed focused on his lips. “I prefer rope.”

MY THOUGHTS:
SEAL’S CODE by Sharon Hamilton is an interesting Military Romance. #10 in the
“Bad Boys of Team 3″ (SEAL Brotherhood #10)” series set in Arizona. I have not read any of this series and found it was easy to keep up with the characters and follow the storyline.
Meet, Danny Begay, a Navajo Navy SEAL, his dying grandfather, one of the original Navajo Code Talkers, who has been summoned him back to his hometown. And, Luci Tohe, a teacher at a school on the Navajo Reservation, whom Danny  had a one night stand with early on in his life. They have a on again, off again relationship,  which is tumultuous at times, but Danny is in for a real surprise when he returns home at his dying grandfather’s request.  Danny becomes embroils in a dangerous situation Luci and her family find themselves in and he most save Luci and her family at all cost.
There is danger on the horizon, as well as some hot sexy love scenes, bitterness, healing, forgiveness, and finding HEA. There is a wide variety of emotions involved in this story, from angst, to bitterness, to happiness, to sadness. The reader will find themselves wrapped up in an emotional roller coaster.
I enjoyed the premise of the book, the Native American aspect of the story was awesome and unique, and the Native American heritage and history helped to make this a unique read. If you are expecting a full fledged “romance”, it is not in this story. This is a one night stand, where neither party could forget the other. Apparently, hot sex will do that to a person. But with this said, it does have a bit of suspense, danger, and surprises. This was my first time reading Ms. Hamilton, would I read the next in this series? Absolutely, in fact I look forward to reading the next in this fascinating series. An unexpected but rewarding and enjoyable read.

The family gathered afterward at Wilson’s mother’s house. It was hard not to feel the eyes of his relatives on him, just as it was hard not to notice the pats on the back Wilson received. Lopez had been well coached and sought Wilson out to thank him for his service. Danny wanted to leave and told his mother so, barely two hours into the get-together. He’d greeted politely all the relatives he recognized, and those who didn’t come up to him, he figured didn’t want to be re-acquainted. Not like Wilson.
As a youth, just hanging with Wilson would have normally been enough to make the afternoon interesting, but today, with the frostiness between the two cousins, it was forcing him into a dangerous place even the sweet recollection of the night with Luci couldn’t heal. Making matters worse, Wilson had watched as he dropped Luci back to her car at the Blue Coyote and made an off-color remark that irritated Danny further.
The two ignored one another until somehow they wound up waiting to use the only restroom in the house.
“Your mom says you’re ready to go home,” Wilson said to his cowboy boots.
“That’s right.”
“I honestly don’t know why you came in the first place, Danny.”
Danny’s right eye squinted a little. “We never liked these things, Wilson. You know that.”
“You’ve been gone, what, eight years or more?”
“Ten.”
“Okay, then. Ten. And you can’t spend an afternoon giving these people the time of day?”
“I don’t belong here, Wilson.”
Wilson nodded his head. “Oh yeah. Forgot. You’re the one that got away. You trying to rub my nose in it, huh?.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“So what are you saying?”
“I’m saying I don’t want to be here. I’ve done my farewells, and now it’s time for me to adios.”
“You might consider the feelings of your mother.” Danny drilled him with a look that picked a scab.
“You hear the voices? Does the chanting get to you, Wilson?”
He could see his cousin was thinking about this carefully. It surprised him that Wilson didn’t give a quick answer no, which meant he heard the voices, too.
“Holy f**king shit, Wilson. You hear them, too. Just like I do.”
Emma Barnowl opened the bathroom door and their nostrils were hit with room deodorizer, which did a poor job of masking the smell she’d left behind.
“F**k me,” Wilson said under his breath. “I’m going out back.”
Danny followed his cousin, and within thirty seconds, was standing next to him, pissing on his aunt’s tomato plants, just like they used to do when they were boys of five. To this day, Danny hated tomatoes, especially home grown ones.
After they were done, they sat in metal lawn chairs. Wilson offered Danny a cigarette.
“I don’t smoke, and neither do you, or you didn’t,” Danny corrected himself.
“That’s funny,” Wilson said as he casually lit up and put his lighter and cigarettes back in his rear pocket.
“How come you didn’t wear your uniform?”
“It’s my choice. I didn’t think he’d like it.” Wilson took a long drag on his cigarette and blew it right at Danny’s face, but the wind carried it away.
“Thought you were proud of being a Navy boat guy.”
“I am. Got nothing to do with it. Kind of felt like it would be bragging or something, you know?”
Danny wondered about Luci, halfway expecting she’d drop by the gathering. Was he disappointed she’d stayed away? He couldn’t get the touch of her body against his out of his mind. That might be a reason to stay an extra day or two, but that would be a dangerous road, full of emotional potholes and entanglements. None of his liaisons ever turned out to last, so he figured it was better to remember her the way he’d left her. He saw her proud straight shoulders and those tight jeans encase thighs and a world-class ass as she walked toward her car and didn’t look back once. He knew the only good ones were the ones who didn’t look back.
“Look, Danny, I’m going to say this once, and then let you go. I’m sorry we got off to a bad start after so many years.”
“I was surprised you were around. Didn’t expect it.”
“So I was right, you’re not happy to see even me.”
“Again, putting words in my mouth.”
Wilson looked down, eyes landing on the scuffed cowboy boots, which were a mismatch to the clean suit pants and white shirt he wore. “I left this place with a lot of demons. I think I got just as many, maybe more than you, cuz.” Wilson took a final drag, stomped it out on the patio, and then threw the pieces into his mother’s vegetable garden.
A slight breeze shivered its way down Danny’s spine. A little group laughed from inside the house. He heard the tinkling of glasses and silverware, the sounds of cars arriving on the crushed rock roadway in front of his Aunt’s house, a doorbell ring, and the buzzing of a small plane overhead. The place looked and smelled and felt dangerously normal.
“I learned to tame those demons in the Navy, Danny. I’m not going to lie to you, but serving in the armed forces is giving me skills I can take out there in the real world.”
Danny found himself chuckling in spite of the fact that it was going to piss Wilson off. “Yeah, don’t see many rubber boats around the res, cuz. You training to be a white water rafting guide in the Canyon? Sh*t, you coulda done that in high school.”
“Except I was getting stoned in high school, Danny. So were you. I heard you were a real mess.”
“Rumors of my demise have been over exaggerated. I look like a mess to you?”
Wilson abruptly stood. “No, Danny, you look like a fuckin’ hero just like your grandfather.”
His cousin left and joined the gathering inside the house.

Here’s the blurb:

The tawdry tale of the Duke and Duchess of Dunwoody continues…
Maggie Armstrong, the long-lost illegitimate daughter of the heir
presumptive to the throne, is bedeviled by her husband’s limited
definition of fidelity. After observing him in a ménage à trois at the
court of King Charles II, she is determined to bring him around to her
way of thinking—by any means necessary.

Robert doesn’t mind being punished for his transgressions. Rather,
he enjoys being whipped, especially by his beloved bride. Unfortunately,
her heart might not belong to him alone. His younger brother, who he’d
sent abroad to clear the way for himself, is coming home sooner than
expected, and Maggie’s feelings for Hugh may not be as dead as her
husband had hoped.

Both duke and duchess soon learn, to their peril, Hugh Armstrong is
not the honorable man they’d been led to believe. Insanely jealous of
his brother’s situation, Hugh will stop at nothing to strip Robert of
all he holds dear—including his life.

But the real danger for Robert and Maggie is not the villainous
Marquess, but the growing friction betwixt Catholics and Protestants in
Restoration Era Great Britain.

Can their love survive the trials that await them?

The Duke's Bedeviled Bride by Nina Mason
MY THOUGHTS:

WOW!! “The Duke’s Bedeviled Bride” is the second part of this riveting Erotica Historical Romance. What a tale!! You absolutely MUST read Book one, “Devil in Duke’s Clothing”, in the “Royal Pains”series, FIRST! This story is NOT a stand alone, in my opinion.

With passion, jealousy, danger, BDSM, deceit, Court intrigue, betrayal and romance, the reader is taken on a journey of torment, a bit of torture, and a delicate balance between love and hate . Simply put, an Erotica Romance fan’s delight!

The characters are complex, to say the least. The storyline is powerful, compelling, and intricately weaves passion, erotic romance into a tale of intrigue and yes, love.
While, there are scenes that will probably be offensive to some readers, I feel they brought more authenticity and realism to the story. Life is about deceit and betrayal at times, not all roses and sunshine.

The heroine is strong, determined, sacrifices all and comes though stronger and more determined.
Ms. Mason is an amazing storyteller, one who draws readers into her stories and holds them in awe. If you DO NOT enjoy Erotica Romance, than turn from this story, for it is passionate, with scenes of Eroticism, whipping, dominance, BDSM, a threesome, and much more, which is tastefully written. With this said, if you enjoy Erotica Romance, this is an awesome read! This story is about much more than sex, and passion, it is about finding true love, and the betrayal, lust, and jealousy of a family member, as well as Court intrigue. I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Mason! ! Well done!

GUEST BLOGGER~ REGAN WALKER~ TO TAME THE WIND…

PLEASE, HELP US WELCOME TODAY’S GUEST…

[REGAN WALKER]

WELCOME!!

TO TAME THE WIND

Picture

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about yourself?

I am a lawyer turned full time historical romance writer as of 2011 (my first novel was published in 2012). I also review books and have my own blog (Historical Romance Review, http://reganromancereview.blogspot.com/). I live in San Diego and love it. Though I have lived on the East Coast, I’m really a creature of the West and never like to be too far from an ocean. I have a serious love for gourmet dark chocolate but otherwise, I am a compulsive healthy eater. All us Californians are salad eaters.

MBA&M: Give our readers a little background on the “Agents of the Crown” series and tell us about your new release is To Tame the Wind.

To Tame the Wind is the prequel to my Agents of the Crown Regency series. They are all related but can be read as “stand alones.” Because To Tame the Wind is the love story of the parents of the heroes in books 2 and 3 of the Agents of the Crown, it necessarily takes place 30 years earlier, in the late 18th century. But there are still spies aplenty as there are in the other books and a few British lords lying about. It’s also a unique setting in that it’s set in the last year of the American Revolution from the vantage point of England and France.

The Agents of the Crown books are based on the premise that the British Crown had its “special agents” that were sent on unique assignments. Along the way, of course, they meet some special women they can’t resist.

MBA&M: To Tame the Wind is a romance that takes place in part on a schooner. What do you feel the appeal of High Sea adventure and Georgian romance is for today’s readers?

I love romance on the high seas and sea captain heroes. To command a ship and take it through dangerous waters gets my blood boiling. I’ve written two of them, Wind Raven (book 3 in the Agents of the Crown series) and now To Tame the Wind. Both have pirates as characters and a noble English sea captain hero. One is a Regency (early 19th century) and one is Georgian (late 18th century). I love both periods in history but there’s something about a man with hair tied back at his nape like they wore it in the 18th century that attracts, I must say.

MBA&M: Why do you, as a writer, enjoy writing Historical Romance?

I love diving into the past and creating a world my readers can love. I vow to sweep them away for history, adventure and love. I do hundreds of hours of research for each book so that I can include real history and real historic figures. The historical romance writers of the past that I admire most did this, adding great depth to their stories. That is my goal, too.

MBA&M: How do you unwind or relax after a long day of writing and social networking?

Dinner in front of the TV with a period series like Viking, Outlander, Turn or Game of Thrones. Then I read until bedtime. I love to read. On the weekend I might unwind with friends. I love to dine out.

MBA&M: What is your favorite genre to read for pleasure?

Historical romance, of course! You might be surprised to know that I read my first romance in 2009 and now am a top reviewer on Amazon with 800 reviews—all romance and almost all historical.

MBA&M: One last question, when can readers expect to see the next in the “Medieval Warriors” series?

I’m writing it now…book 2, Rogue Knight. It follows The Red Wolf’s Prize and it’s set in England three years after the Norman Conquest. It tells the story of a young widow, Emma of York and Sir Geoffroi de Tournai, a Norman knight who will persuade her not all knights are the same.

Thank you, Regan Walker, for visiting with us and our readers today! Although, I read a wide variety of genre, Historical Romance/Fiction will always be my favorite!

TO TAME THE WIND is the prequel to the Agents of the Crown trilogy!

What an exciting Georgian Romance…

Meet the author…

 Regan Walker
Bestselling author Regan Walker loved to write stories as a child, particularly those about adventure-loving girls, but by the time she got to college more serious pursuits took priority. One of her professors encouraged her to pursue the profession of law, which she did. Years of serving clients in private practice and several stints in high levels of government gave her a love of international travel and a feel for the demands of the “Crown” on its subjects. Hence her romance novels often involve a demanding sovereign who taps his subjects for “special assignments.” In each of her novels, there is always real history and real historic figures.
