Everyone knows who I am and that I could have any female fan I want. That’s supposed to be the “perk” of playing left field for the Boston Renegades. But I don’t want just any woman; I want her.

She should be just another face in the crowd, but I can’t stop thinking about the one night we spent together-and her look of regret the morning after.

Because Saylor Blackwell is the kind of woman who haunts a man. Smart, sexy as hell, and one of the best managers in the business. She’s every ballplayer’s dream woman. And I’d do anything to make things right with her.

I’m done sitting on the bench when it comes to Saylor Blackwell. Time to swing for the fences.

Burn So Bright by Jennifer Bernard

*Summary taken from Goodreads*

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Bernard returns to Jupiter Point–where sparks are starting to fly…

Wildfire “hotshot” Josh Marshall is all about fun, firefighting and flirting. But ever since his crew got trapped in a burnover, he’s been plagued with recurring nightmares. It’s not just the fire haunting him – it’s an ongoing family drama that’s kept him determined to stay strictly unattached. Now that’s all changing—but is it thanks to that near-death experience or his attraction to the sexy, fascinating, engaged Suzanne Finnegan?

Suzanne, honeymoon-planner extraordinaire, knows exactly what she wants: marriage and a stable home like the one her family lost in the financial crash. Her fiancé Logan fits the bill perfectly, unlike the distracting, live-for-the-moment Josh Marshall. Sure, her chemistry with Josh is insane and Logan is way more focused on his work than their relationship. But she has a plan, and she’s sticking to it.

Except fate has a way of making plans go up in smoke.

When Suzanne’s fiancé goes MIA at the worst possible time, Josh saves the day. Then the heartbreakingly handsome firefighter gets badly hurt saving one of his crewmates in a wildfire, and Suzanne finds herself coming to his rescue. Jupiter Point’s real-life hero is fast becoming a partner she can truly count on—even if she knows it can never last.
Still, if they’re all wrong for each other, why does it feel so right? Because there’s simply no ignoring sparks that Burn So Bright.

My Thoughts

WOW! I have read every book Jennifer Bernard has written and I have to say she just keeps getting better and better. I fell in love with Josh when I read the first Jupiter Point book, SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE. He’s such a fun character, and always makes every scene he’s actually in better. I loved the heroine, Suzanne, from the first book as well. But Josh I think steals the show each and every time. Together they are a pair you just can’t help but root for. Watching them clash, and interact is awesome. I love small town romances, feeling like you are part of the town, connecting with more than just a few characters, it’s all so very appealing to me. BURN SO BRIGHT is one of the best books I’ve read this year. The setting is engaging, the characters are realistic and fun, the writing it outstanding and the overall storyline leaves you smiling and wanting more. This is one of those can’t put down, why does it have to end reads that will leave you eager for more. I can’t wait to see what Jupiter Point has to offer next! Please write faster Ms. Bernard, I need to visit Jupiter Point again and soon. Highly Recommended!

The Untouchable Earl by Amy Sandas…..includes giveaway link

Today MBA is honored to welcome author Amy Sandas to our site. We hope you enjoy this visit and will take part in the giveaway! Don’t forget to comment to let us know your thoughts on Brooding Heroes!!

Welcome to MyBookAddictionandMore Amy!

Amy: Brooding heroes. I’ve always been drawn to them over all other hero types. They stay in my mind long after they attain their happy ending, perhaps because that HEA tends to be so hard-won. They tend to carry around scars that won’t heal and painful memories that won’t fade, closing themselves off from others, fearing judgement or further hurt. I love their complexity, their secrets, the deep inner darkness they don’t bother to hide, and the tenderness they don’t want you to find.

MBA: Who are your favorite brooding heroes?

Amy: Aragorn II, son of Arathorn in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings – I reference the film version because for me, it is Viggo Mortensen’s portrayal of this character as much as it is the character itself which makes Aragorn so unforgettable to me. Whether as the ranger known as Strider or the lost heir of Isildur, Aragorn is a man haunted by the weight of his past and reluctant to claim the destiny that awaits him, because he understands the gravity of it like few do. His focus never wavers, his loyalty is unquestionable, yet you can see by a subtle bow of his head that he wishes it could all be different, especially when honor and duty take him away from the woman of his heart.

Avenell Slade, the hero in my latest title, The Untouchable Earl, is also a wonderful brooder. Keeping people beyond arms reach is vital to his survival in a society that would scorn him for the physical affliction he acquired from a childhood illness. No one can know his secret, and that means no one can get too close. It is a wretched existence made only more devastating when he meets Lily Chadwick, a woman whose closeness he desires beyond all else.

“Are you afraid?”
“Yes,” she replied in a soft voice. “But I love the way you frighten me.”

Lily Chadwick has spent her life playing by society’s rules. But when an unscrupulous moneylender snatches her off the street and puts her up for auction at a pleasure house, she finds herself in the possession of a man who makes her breathless with terror and impossible yearning…

Though the reclusive Earl of Harte claimed Lily with the highest bid, he hides a painful secret—one that has kept him from knowing the pleasure of a lover’s touch. Even the barest brush of skin brings him physical pain, and he’s spent his life keeping the world at arms’ length. But there’s something about Lily that maddens him, bewitches him, compels him…and drives him toward the one woman brave and kind enough to seek to heal his troubled heart.

Amy Sandas’ love of romance began one summer when she stumbled across one of her mother’s Barbara Cartland books. Her affinity for writing began with sappy pre-teen poems and led to a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Creative Writing from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She lives with her husband and children in Wisconsin.

Scorned by her ducal father and determined to attain everything that life has denied her due to an accident of birth, she’s not about to let this arrogant earl stop her.

Adrian Sutherland, the Earl of Danvers, saw his father destroyed by a heartless, predatory courtesan. He has no time or patience for such exotic, expensive ladybirds. He’s far too busy restoring his family’s wealth and reputation whilst doing what he can to protect his friends from the clutches of all the scheming courtesans of London.

Then a moment of compassion turns intense dislike to breathless passion, and these two strong-willed, fiercely proud people are compelled to indulge in a brief affair. Each is convinced that they can satisfy their craving for the other without emotional risk.

But neither realizes that a little dalliance can be a dangerous thing.

A Most Demanding Mistress (Book Two)

Miss Miranda Jones is the most sought after courtesan in all of London. However, beneath the cool exterior of pride, this beautiful night bird hides a past of pain and rejection. Scorned by her ducal father as a bastard daughter, Miranda vowed to never depend on a man for anything—except financial support.

Now she’s madly in love with a nobleman who cannot afford to keep her in such extravagant style. Giving into passion means breaking her vow, and worse, means gambling with her future security.

Adrian Sutherland, the Earl of Danvers, has seen the men of his family destroyed through their obsessive need to possess beautiful women. He’d thought himself immune to such base desires. Then he met Miss Miranda Jones.

Miss Jones’ high standards and past reputation foretells that she’ll be a demanding mistress. Despite his lack of funds, Adrian is determined to protect and provide for her. Yet as they enter a protector and mistress arrangement, Adrian becomes consumed with possessiveness. How can such dark passion be true love? Is this compulsion the need to own her stunning beauty? He must find the answer before his obsession destroys them.

Sacrifice (Book Three)

Adrian Sutherland, the Earl of Danvers, loves Miss Miranda Jones with all his heart and soul. His love is so ardent that he will marry her and make her his countess, despite her past as a courtesan. He loves her so much that he is prepared to do anything to keep her safe. No matter the cost.

Miranda loves Adrian with a passionate love that equals his. She wants only him, no matter the hardships she must face as wife to an impoverished earl.

Miranda and Adrian, two tortured and damaged souls, whose only solace is each other. As they share the dark secrets that have tormented them for years, their love is put to the test again and again. BLOG TOUR~THE BLACK MORASS~BARBARA DEVLIN~

The Black Morass
(Pirates of the Coast Book 1)
By
Barbara Devlin

Forever glancing over his shoulder, Jean Marc Cavalier is a ruthless pirate with the blood of countless souls on his hands and a price on his head, but he is a lonely man. In exchange for a chance at redemption, pardons for his crew, and a peaceful life, he accepts a pact that could result in liberty or death, if only he can survive the terms, but at least he will be free. When he rescues a young woman in distress, and vows to return her to her family, he is torn between his natural instincts born of violence and the honorable bargain he struck. What will Jean Marc choose?
En route to Jamaica to join her father, after her guardian dies, Lady Madalene Davies departs Boston in anticipation of a new life in a foreign land. When her ship is attacked and set afire, she is left for dead, until an unlikely savior comes to her aid. Brash and bawdy, her flawed hero defies the conventional ideal, as he is no knight in shining armor and seems forever intent on shocking her, yet she cannot resist the lure he presents. What happens when danger lurks in unexpected places, faith is broken, and Madalene must rely on Jean Marc to stay alive?

Atlantic Ocean
March, 1816
Virtue was a highly overrated characteristic in his estimation.  In truth, he ranked it in the miserable depths of humanity comprised of respectability and righteousness.  For the strong and fearless, the glorified traits of honor and integrity functioned as an impenetrable barrier to the excitement of the worldly existence filled with violence and debauchery in which he once reveled on a daily basis.  In exchange for societal approval, grown men surrendered their dignity, and their whore’s pipe, he would argue, to abide by a set of rules in which most had no say, and for what?  High principles?  Prestige?  Indeed, such noble qualities sucked dry the marrow of life, leaving naught but the simple pleasures to enjoy, as the Black Morass rode the waves.
Sunshine glittered on the ocean, as a sea of precious diamonds, and a cool breeze sifted through his long black hair, as Jean Marc Cavalier directed the helmsman.  Restless and yearning for stimulation, something to feed the hunger that gnawed at his harrowed soul, he approached with caution what appeared to be a burning schooner that he might offer aid, in accord with the pact he signed in a moment of weakness or perhaps insanity.
“No movement on deck, Cap’n.”  Tyne, the bosun, lowered his spyglass.  “Should we continue our advance?”
“We will maintain course and heading, just to be sure there are no survivors in need of rescue.”  For some strange suspicion he could not quite shake, Jean Marc surmised all was not as it seemed, given the nearest vessel disappeared below the horizon before he could inquire after the circumstances of the misadventure.  For a seaman, naught struck fear in the heart more than fire aboard ship, which could send an entire crew to Davy Jones’s locker.  And he had given his word to perform meritorious deeds for a full year, in trade for an unconditional pardon.  At the end of twelve months, Jean Marc and his men would be free of past crimes, beholden to none.
But at what price had he bartered his autonomy?
It was for that reason Jean Marc refused to sail past the doomed lady.  And then he spied activity at the stern rail, on the quarterdeck.  “Come about.”
“What is it?”  Peering over his shoulder, Tyne narrowed his stare.  “Is that a white flag?”
As they drew closer, Jean Marc smiled, and a familiar itch in his palms had him flexing his fingers.  The lure of conquest burned bright in his loins, and he struggled with a craving for fresh meat, if only to reassert authority over his life.  “It is a woman.”  He laughed.  “And she waves her undergarments.”
Perhaps fate smiled upon him, as the chit might be just the balm to ease his unrest and allow him to regain a measure of control.  Obligated to the Crown, and no longer the master of his destiny, he thirsted for the power of ultimate domination, and nothing compared to the supremacy inherent in seduction.
“Bloody hell, she is a tasty bit o’ fluff.”  Tyne licked his lips.  “And a bottle of Jamaican rum says she is unspoiled, too.”
“I believe you are correct in your assertion, mon ami.”  That tempered Jean Marc’s ever-growing arousal, as he never claimed virgin’s blood, because he preferred experienced whores who knew what he wanted and gave it to him, without complaint or inconvenient emotional attachments.  Then he got a good look at the boon, in question, as the Morass glided to a halt, and full-blown lust threatened to consume him.  Maybe it was time to sample the tender flesh of an innocent.  “Ahoy, dear lady.  Jean Marc Cavalier, most definitely at your service.”
“Kind sir, I would be grateful for passage to Port Royal.”  Behind her, the masts collapsed, and she shrieked.  How he ached to make her squeal with enthusiasm, as he would wager she could scream much louder with the right inducement.  “As you can see, my current accommodation is about to sink, and I am in dire need of new transportation.”
“Lower the plank.”  He signaled the crew.  “As I am certain we can strike a mutually beneficial bargain.”  With a lush figure made for sin, and of that he could envision committing many with her, and alabaster skin he fully intended to explore in more intense inspection, once he got her alone, she presented a delightful distraction.  “How is it your ship fell into such misfortune, and where is the crew?”
“They are dead.”  Tears pooled in her vivid blue eyes, and she emitted a soft sob, but he cared not for her sad tale.  “We were attacked by pirates, and I hid in the captain’s cabin, in a small compartment beneath a concealed floor panel, which he revealed he previously used for smuggling, thus I was spared.”
“Come here, mon chou.”  As the bow dipped below the surface of the water, he slipped an arm about her hips and whisked her aboard the Morass.
“Oh, do collect my bundles, as they hold irreplaceable personal items, including some of my mother’s keepsakes.”  She pointed to two pillowcases, knotted at the opening.  “Please, sir.  I cannot lose them, and I shall ensure you are handsomely compensated, when I reach my destination, as I hail from a family of means.”
“Is that so?  Then your every wish is my command.”  And she would compensate him, all right, but not in the coin she proposed, as he had something else in mind for the delectable brown-haired wench.  In seconds, Jean Marc jumped to the now high-pitched stern, grabbed the belongings, glanced into the waist of the doomed vessel, and discovered the remains of a massacre, which made no sense.  At the very least, the sailors could have been sold into slavery, so why would anyone surrender such valuable cargo?  A large crack in the boards indicated the ship yielded its last breath to the force of the ocean, and he took a running leap to safety.  When he gained his footing, the woman flung herself at him and wept.  “Now, now, none of that, mon chou.”
Guileless and genteel, his unwitting prize had no idea of the scheme he would enact to reclaim a portion of his pride, as the King stipulated naught in regard to conquest of the fair sex.  Indeed, she possessed no means of defense against his provocative persuasion, and he would employ everything at his disposal to well and thoroughly invade every inch of her.  Before he landed the little angel on Jamaica’s shore, he would instruct her in the art of pleasure, such that she would perform, at will, what even some professionals considered obscene, and render her quim raw.  And then he would leave her, unharmed but a bit worn about the edges, without so much as a backward glance, as was his way.
“I thought I was going to die, and you saved me when all seemed lost.”  Well, he was not so sure he saved her, inasmuch as he delivered her from one precarious position to another, though she knew it not.  Whimpering, she hugged him tight, and he savored her soft and feminine curves.  “How can I ever thank you?”
Oh, he had plenty of suggestions.  With a slight bend at the hips, she assessed her things, and he admired her round bottom.  Then and there, he decided to first defile her arse and sail her windward passage, as he relished the compelling contradiction between the vulgar act and the pristine virgin, given she was no short-heeled lass or three-penny upright.
“You may start by telling me your name.”  Of course, buccaneer or not, Jean Marc required no such formalities to seize the treasure between her thighs, and he would feast on her honeypot soon enough, but he did not want to frighten her—at least, not yet, as fear could be quite provoking.
“Lady Madalene Davies, sir.”  An exemplar of perfection, her mouth posed an unparalleled enticement, and how he would engage her aristocratic, plump red lips about his stiff cock.  Then she stared at the crew, released Jean Marc, and retreated a step.  “Is this a passenger-for-hire ship or a privateer in His Majesty’s Navy?”
“Not usually, and I am no longer a pirate.”  He advanced, as her chin quivered, and desire surged in his veins.  “Thus I am willing to negotiate terms, if you are amenable.”  With a shrug, he trailed a finger along the gentle curve of her jaw.  “Else I can return you to the sea.”
“I beg your pardon?”  Lady Madalene blinked.  “You are no longer a pirate?”  She made another perfunctory study of his men and gulped.  “Am I in danger?  Did you kill the Trident crew, and am I to suffer the same fate?”
“Mon chou, you insult me, as I would have taken them captive were that my work.  And never would I waste something so lovely.”  Swift and sure, he caught her in his arms, and she screamed, just as he claimed a lengthy kiss, to ribald hoots and hollers.  When she wrenched free, pounded his chest with her fists, and prepared to protest, he nodded and thrust her into Tyne and Randall’s waiting escort.  “Take her to my cabin.”

Bestselling, Amazon All-Star author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller, but it was a weeklong vacation to Bethany Beach, DE that forever changed her life. The little house her parents rented had a collection of books by Kathleen Woodiwiss, which exposed Barbara to the world of romance, and Shanna remains a personal favorite.
Barbara writes heartfelt historical romances that feature flawed heroes who may know how to seduce a woman but know nothing of marriage. And she prefers feisty but smart heroines who sometimes save the hero, before they find their happily ever after.
Barbara earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.

COVER REVEAL~ MAXEN~ STEPHANIE WITTER with #Giveaway…18+ only!!

Title: Maxen

Series: Kinky Shine #2

Author: Stephanie Witter

Category/Genre: Adult Rockstar Romance

Release Date: July 12

Blurb:

They were married but never kissed.

That night years ago never had consequences…until now.

“I wasn’t into the love bullshit and I didn’t really believe in forever between two people.’’

If I had my way, I would have never seen Maxen Walton again, the womanizing drummer of Kinky Shine.

When I met him in college he was already going through girls as if they were disposable. I had always hated him. Yet, for some drunken reason I ended up marrying him in Las Vegas. That night, right before I puked in the fake flowers and left the tacky chapel was the last time I had laid eyes on him.

Until my boyfriend asked me to marry him.

Now, I was in LA trying to get a divorce from my husband without the press hearing about it.

What I didn’t expect was that my famous husband affected me and that getting to know him would change a lot more than I ever planned.

“All I saw now was Lark, always and forever out of my reach, always driving me crazy.’’

I had only ever met one woman who equally drove me crazy and made me want her until I forgot my name.

Lark Hardin.

And I married her one crazy night in Las Vegas.

Freshly out of rehab and trying like hell to get back in the game while convincing my best friend I wouldn’t relapse, seeing my wife again was the last thing I needed for that.

Life liked f*cking with me, though.

Here she was, so sexy I would damn myself to be inside her just once, but she wasn’t here for me. She was here to get a divorce so her perfect boyfriend had free range to marry her.

She still hated my guts on the sole principle that I was a womanizing f*cker, but maybe she would open her eyes and see beyond that part of me.

I just hoped it wouldn’t be just for the sex because this woman had always been my weakness.

She had the power to destroy me.

“I’d spent the better part of my life hiding behind my bright smile and loud laugh, pushing everything away by using sex, but that was over.’’

*For readers over 18.

Can be read as a standalone but if you want the full Kinky Shine experience don’t miss the first book.*

RELEASE DAY BLITZ: KNIGHT OF PENTACLES by Nina Mason…with #Review

Release Day Blitz: Knight of Pentacles by Nina Mason

knight of pentaclesToday we celebrate the release of Knight of Pentacles, book three in Nina Mason’s Knights of the Tarot series. Unlike the first two books in the series, which Nina revised and re-released on May 24, Knight of Pentacles has never been released before.

Knight of Pentacles, an erotic PNR/UF set primarily on Scotland’s Black Isle, tells of the romance between Sir Axel Lochlann, who guards the portal into Avalon, and Jenna Cameron, the daughter of a witch who hasn’t yet discovered her powers. Their love story is based on the old Scottish ballad of Tam Lin, which plays an important role in the book.

Here’s the blurb:

The future looks bleak for Jenna Cameron when, after a five-year engagement, her fiancé breaks it off the night before the wedding. Hoping to regroup, Jenna decides to drive alone to the cottage on Scotland’s mysterious Black Isle where they were supposed to spend their honeymoon. When her car breaks down, Jenna wonders if her troubles can get any worse. Then, while cutting through a secluded glen, she sees a handsome man bathing in a waterfall. The next day, she learns the man she saw is the faery knight who guards the portal into Avalon, the otherworld island ruled by Morgan Le Fay.

Jenna, ready to be rid of the virginity she’s saved in vain, offers herself to Sir Axel Lochlann, the shaman knight of Faery Glen. From that moment on, she finds herself inside a faery tale complete with druids, goblins, runic magic, and vampire owls. She also discovers powers she didn’t know she had—powers she can use to break Sir Axel’s bonds to Queen Morgan.

First, however, she must persuade Axel to put his desire to be free ahead of his duty to the queen he’s sworn to serve and obey.

Here’s a little more about the Knights of the Tarot series:

Knights of the Tarot, a four-part series, was born of a relatively simple concept. Nina wanted to write a paranormal/fantasy series incorporating different forms of divination. Tarot cards, astrology, runes, numerology, and the like. From that kernel grew the overarching storyline. The heroes of this contemporary paranormal series are Scottish noblemen of times past who were taken by the faeries into Avalon to serve as breeding drones to the queen, the legendary Morgan le Fay. Each of the books tells the story of a particular knight and the heroine whose love saves him from his unhappy existence.

Each hero grapples with a different relationship with their cruel and selfish queen. Callum Lyon, the knight of book one (Knight of Wands), is free of Morgan’s influence, having escaped Avalon after faking his death. Leith MacQuill, the knight of book two (Knight of Cups), was expelled from Avalon after the queen discovered his affair with one of the ladies of her court. To punish Leith, Morgan cursed him so any women he should fall in love with in the future would die.

In Knight of Pentacles, Axel Lochlann is still enslaved to the queen, who he serves as a guardian of the portal between the mortal and immortal realms.

The Knight of Swords (book four) is Finn MacKnight does not yet know he is destined to fulfill an ancient prophecy telling of the queen’s overthrow by a natural-born drone.

The knights are blood-drinking shape-shifters who can assume the form of any creature, real or mythical, but generally take the form of their alter ego. Callum’s preferred form is a lion, Leith’s is a Kellas Cat, Axel’s is a gyrfalcon, and Finn’s is a jaguar.

runesAxel Lochlann, the hero of Knight of Pentacles is a Highlander of Viking descent who uses runes for divination and magic. For those who don’t know what runes are, they’re the letters of an alphabet called the Futhark, the first system of writing developed and used by the Germanic peoples.

More than just letters to make words, each rune is an ideographic or pictographic symbol of some cosmological principle or power. When written together in various sequences, the powers can be invoked to cast protective spells. Individual runes carved into stones, bone, or wood are used to seek the guidance and wisdom of the Old Norse gods, especially Odin, who discovered the runes after hanging upside down for nine days from Yggdrasil, the Old Norse tree of life .

Here’s an excerpt from Knight of Pentacles:

As the sputtering engine gasped its last, Jenna Cameron set her forehead against the steering wheel and groaned. Could this day get any worse? As if it weren’t enough her world had turned upside down, now her car decided to quit in the dead of night on a desolate stretch of road with no bloody cellular signal.

If not for the dream she’d had last night, she’d be Mrs. William Comstock right now, on her way to the honeymoon cottage she’d rented with the man she’d waited five long and frustrating years to marry.

The thought of William sent a chill through Jenna. In the dream, she’d seen herself driving off the edge of a cliff. She was married to William and utterly miserable. As her car soared over the edge of the precipice, she heard her mother’s voice. “The right man is out there, waiting for you to find him. But it will never be if you bind yourself to a man you don’t love.”

As soon as she awoke, she rang William. When she told him about the dream, he said, as she’d secretly hoped he would, “I was willing to overlook that your mother was a witch because I believed your father had safely guided you away from the path of darkness, but now I see that, like her, you have been led astray. I pray someday you will embrace the Light of God, Jenna. I truly do. But, for now, I cannot risk my own immortal soul by marrying someone so susceptible to the darkness.”

William, a Presbyterian pastor like her father, blamed everything he did not understand on the devil.

As relieved as Jenna was to have escaped, the sudden change of course had thrown her life into chaos. Expecting to be married, she’d given up her job and flat in Edinburgh and, consequently, was left with no source of income and nowhere to live.

So, she was on her way to the rented cottage in Rosemarkie, a small seaside town on Scotland’s Black Isle. Since she couldn’t get her deposit back, it seemed like a good idea to use the cottage to reflect and regroup.

Coming all this way alone had suddenly lost its appeal, but here she was—and wallowing in self-pity was not going to solve anything. According to the Google map she’d printed out, she wasn’t far from her destination. She might as well suck it up and walk the rest of the way. When she got there, she could ring a garage about her car.

Grabbing her purse, her forest-green wool cloak, and the battery-powered torch she kept in the glove box, she climbed out of the car and set off along the rural tree-lined road, which was dark and a little spooky. No cars passed her in either direction. Crickets chirped all around and small rustlings from the surrounding woods startled her sporadically. Senses alert, she stopped repeatedly to check her mobile for a signal.

Her heart pounded and, despite the chill in the air, she was sweating under her cloak and sweater. The only good thing she could say about her present predicament was that her fear of being torn to pieces by wild animals had temporarily eclipsed her other worries.

She didn’t know how long she’d been walking when she came to an old stone bridge. Just beyond was a sign. She shone the beam of her torch at the words carved into the wooden plaque.

Faery Glen.

faery glenJenna took heart. She’d read something about the glen on the website for the cottage, so she shouldn’t have much farther to go. Unfortunately, she needed to pee rather urgently. Might there be somewhere to go in the glen?

Venturing into a forest in the middle of the night might not be the smartest thing she’d ever done, but her bladder was bursting and she wasn’t about to tinkle by the side of the road. Just because no cars had gone by since she’d started walking, didn’t mean one wouldn’t appear the moment she dropped her knickers. Besides, there was a carpark abutting the glen, so there might be a public lavatory there as well.

Up above, the sky was an indigo canvas splattered with specks of white, some larger than others. She crossed the small asphalt lot. Finding no bathroom, she squatted in the bushes. When she’d finished her business, she shone the torch into the glen. Everything outside the beam was pitch black. Water ran somewhere nearby. Thirst drew her down the footpath. All that crying had made her as parched as a dry sponge.

I’ll only go a little ways, find the stream, and take a wee sip.

The hollow clomp of her footsteps disturbed the silence as she crossed a wooden bridge. On the other side, the path curved sharply. In a clearing just beyond the turn were the falls. In the silver light of the full moon, the cascading water reminded her of the bridal veil she might never get a chance to wear.

Then, she saw him. A man in the pool below the falls. He was stark naked, soaking wet, and had his back to her.

Alarm electrifying every nerve ending, she stepped back into the shadows. Her first thought was that he might be a homeless man who’d taken refuge in the woods. He had a beard and long hair, so it seemed the most logical explanation. Her next thought was that he might be performing some sort of ritual. She was on the Black Isle, after all, in a place called Faery Glen on the night of a full moon, so his being a New Age warlock or druid didn’t seem all that infeasible. A long shot, perhaps, but not meters outside the realm of possibility.

When curiosity overrode her apprehension, she stepped closer to get a better look at him. The moonlight bathing his glistening physique revealed a tall, slender frame with broad shoulders, narrow hips, and a shapely bum. Wetness and poor lighting made telling the color of his hair impossible. Light brown, maybe, or dark blond. She started a little when he bent over and shook his head like a dog. As he threw it back, he raised his muscular white arms to push the clinging wet hair off his face.

Despite her long engagement and having achieved the ripe age of twenty-five, she’d never seen a naked man before. Not in the flesh, anyway, and watching this one bathing in the wild was making her feel things she shouldn’t. The prospect of being caught spying on him was even more unsettling.

Ducking behind the thick trunk of the nearest tree, she watched as he continued his bath. Drunk on a tart cocktail of shame and lust, she took in the graceful slope of his shoulders, the long muscles supporting his serrated spine, and the alluring dimples just below the small of his back. His beautiful form and the way the moonlight sparkled on the droplets clinging to his skin made her pulse race and her knees weaken.

A strong urge to touch him welled up inside her. How badly she wanted to run her hands over every glistening curve and indentation of his manly form—both for prurient reasons and to absorb some of his confidence the way plants absorbed sunlight. As exposed as he was to the elements, he seemed admirably comfortable in his skin.

She’d never felt that at ease with herself, even when alone. All her life, she’d been made to feel inferior. As much as she didn’t want to believe that she was, part of her did.

Mesmerized by the man in the pool, she went on watching. Something told her he was like her mother. Esoteric rather than religious. Open-minded instead of rigid. Accepting, not judging. She couldn’t say how or why she sensed this about him. She only knew she felt it deep down in some instinctive part of her psyche.

Hope fluttered in her heart. Could he be the one her mother spoke of in the dream? Scoffing at her romantic delusions, she smashed the thought with the rock of reason and headed back to the footpath.

MY THOUGHTS:

Knight of Pentacles by Nina Mason is #3 in the “Knights of Tarot” series, while it can be read as a stand alone, I’d recommend reading the other two in the series first, to get a better understanding of the series and the characters. Part Romance, part Paranormal, and part magical, but totally consuming.
Well written with captivating characters and a mesmerizing storyline. The H/H are intriguing and passionate. Mystery and suspense are apparent, as well as the need to survive. I enjoyed how the H/H came together, not just for love, nor for destiny, but for a heritage, they both must learn to embrace and the people surrounding that heritage.
An evil Queen, hot sex scenes, passionate embraces, magic, and romance, of course, lots of danger, a bit of deception, gruesome and fierce battles, makes for an entertaining and most satisfying read.
Ms. Mason does an awesome job of world building, and brings forth a surprisingly, enchanting relationship among all the characters involved in “Knight of Pentacles”. An enchanting and enjoyable read, from start to finish.
Pick up this amazing magical tale and be mesmerized for yourself. A great read!

Blurb For Miranda’s Dilemma

Erotic Historical Romance ~

Courtesan/Non-virginal Heroine

Poised to become Mayfair’s most

expensive and exclusive courtesan, Miss Miranda Jones finds her

rise inexplicably blocked by a socially

powerful nobleman. Scorned by her ducal father and determined to

attain everything that life has denied her due to an accident of birth,

she’s not about to let this arrogant earl stop her.

Adrian Sutherland, the Earl of Danvers,

saw his father destroyed by a heartless, predatory courtesan. He has no time or patience

for such exotic, expensive ladybirds. He’s far too busy

restoring his family’s wealth and reputation whilst doing what he can to

protect his friends from the clutches of all the scheming courtesans

of London.

Then a moment of compassion turns

intense dislike to breathless passion, and

these two strong-willed, fiercely proud

people are compelled to

indulge in a brief affair. Each is

convinced that they can satisfy

their craving for the other without

emotional risk.

But neither realizes that a little

dalliance can be a dangerous thing.

Reader Advisory: This is an erotic

historical romance and it

contains frank, frequent love scenes,

sexual slang and descriptions

and general bedchamber naughtiness. The

characters discuss abuse

issues from their backstories during

the course of their developing

relationship.

Blurb for A Most Demanding Mistress:

Miss Miranda Jones is indisputably the

most beautiful, elegant and sought after courtesan in all of London.

She hides a past full of pain and rejection beneath an exterior of

pride. She knows that noblemen put

their own fickle interests first

and cannot be trusted. Scorned by ducal

father, she never needed or

expected anything from a man, except

his financial support. Luxurious

living makes a soothing balm against

the sting of the ultimate rejection.

Now she’s madly in love with a

nobleman who cannot

afford to keep her in such extravagant

style. And she wonders if a

courtesan can ever afford to indulge

her own passions? Can she really

gamble so capriciously on her own

future and put the happiness of the

moment above future security? Will her

gentleman prove himself no

better than any other nobleman that she

has known?

Adrian Sutherland, the Earl of Danvers,

has seen the men of his family

destroyed through their obsessive need

to possess beautiful women.

He’d always thought himself immune to

such unworthy drives. Now he’s

fallen under the spell of Miss Miranda

Jones.

Miss Jones’ high standards and past

reputation foretells that she’ll be a most

demanding mistress. Despite his

relative lack of funds, Adrian is

determined to work hard to protect and

provide for her. Passion led

this skeptical gentleman to declare

himself in love. Yet as they

enter a protector and mistress

relationship, Adrian finds himself

consumed with possessiveness. And he

can’t help but wonder if is it

true love that motivates him? Or is it

the need to own her stunning

beauty? He must find the answer before

their tempestuous romance

breaks both of their hearts.

A Most Demanding Mistress is part of

the Fashionably Impure Series and is best read after Miranda’s

Dilemma.

Reader advisory: This story contains

frank sexual language and general bedchamber naughtiness. Abuse

issues are alluded to in the backstory.

A Visit with Lauren Layne……and #giveaway

Cuff-Me-Release-Week-Blitz[1]

Today we are honored to welcome author Lauren Layne to MyBookAddictionandmore.com. Please join us in welcoming Lauren!

Layne_Cuff Me_MM[1]

MBA: What do you hope readers will gain from reading this story/series?

Lauren Layne: It may be simplistic, but my goal when I write any book is to give my readers ALL THE FEELS. Either the LOL moment, or my personal favorite: the tummy-flip moment!

MBA: What is the best advice have you given or gotten?

LL: To not care what other people thing. Too often I think people assume that advice is best left for adolescent teens who are trying to “find themselves,” but it’s equally true in adulthood. Resting any portion of your self-worth on someone else’s opinion, whether it be a family member, friend, reader, or colleague, and they’ll always maintain some sense of control over your happiness. DO NOT WANT!

MBA: Where there any surprises for you while writing this story?

LL:Nah. I’m an outliner, I rarely get surprised by my stories 😉 I’m the boss!

MBA: If you had to live on Mars for a year, what 5 things would you take with you?

LL:My laptop

My charger (there better be a power source up there!)

My Kindle

My iPhone (to take pictures!)

All The Wine

MBA: You are in a room with 4 other people, dead or alive, who are they and why them?

LL: JK Rowling | one word: obsessed

Henry Cavill | I want to see if he’s as beautiful up close, no shame.

Socrates | I’m a philosophy buff. So many questions.

Ellen Degeneres | She just makes me smile. Good people, right there.

MBA: What is the hardest thing about writing?

LL:The actual writing. Putting new words on a page day after day is harder than people think!

MBA: What is the easiest thing about writing?

LL:That moment after you’ve come up with the seed of a new story and you get to brainstorm all the directions it could take. The stage between conception and typing Chapter One is my favorite, and the easiest stage of the writing process.

MBA: What is your all time favorite book, from childhood or adulthood?

LL:Oh gosh. I think I have to go with Harry Potter. If you’ll allow it, I’d love to count the whole series as one, but if you make me choose just ONE HP book, I’d go with the first. I’ve read it probably 50 times.

*yes we’ll take the whole series as one, some series just can’t be taken as separate books you MUST read the whole series to truly understand them*

MBA: What does the future hold for you?

LL: Ha, big question?! I’ll limit it to my writing career so I don’t go on forever ☺ 2016 is a big year for me, book-wise. I have seven books out, plus a novella, so I’ve been busy! Next up after CUFF ME, is Good Girl, in May, about a country singer, then it’s on to Wedding Belles series in the summer, back-to-back releases about Manhattan Wedding Planners, and last, but never ever least, it’s Someone Like You, the third in my Oxford trilogy.

Thank you Lauren for taking the time to answer our questions! And such great answers!
