Waiting on a Cowboy by Jennifer Ryan The McGrath's Series book 1 Product details Print Length: 384 pages Publisher: Avon (August 18, 2020) Publication Date: August 18, 2020 Sold by: HarperCollins Publishers Language: English ASIN: B081ZFHL4J Meet New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Ryan’s McGraths: a family as untamed as the land they call home. Tate McGrath just didn’t get it. Why was Liz Scott, his best friend—and the person he relied on and trusted most—suddenly avoiding him! When he finally tracks her down, he finds her with a man he knows nothing about and she’s been dating for weeks. Suddenly, he can’t make himself ignore her tempting curves and deep green eyes, and all he wants to do is keep her all to himself. What was going on? Could he possibly be…jealous? Liz had made the decision: stop carrying a torch for Tate and find a guy who wants to be her everything. Tate had always seen her as honest, dependable, smart, kind…Best friend, not girlfriend! And she needed to give up the dream of marrying the man she’d loved since preschool and move on. But when Liz’s boyfriend turns dangerous, Tate steps up to help and soon realizes he’s the cowboy hero she’s been waiting for him to be all along. My thoughts: WAITING ON A COWBOY is a fun easy read. The characters are well written and realistic. The setting in one that leaves you wanting to visit in real life. The story is a friends to not friends to lovers type of story. Liz and Tate are great characters. Liz knows what she wants but it finally ready to move on since she can't have that. Tate, her best friend, is finally ready to risk it all even losing his best friend. But is it too late? That question is probably the biggest theme to me of the story. When is it too late? When do you finally move on? I felt for Liz and her struggles and for Tate and his concerns. Watching these two find their way and dealing with the dangers now facing Liz.....well it was fun. It was a page-turning can't put down read. You want to know what comes next but at the same time you don't want the story to end. I am eager to connect with these characters again. I highly recommend WAITING ON A COWBOY to anyone who enjoys small town romances, cowboys, friends to lovers stories, and stories that will leave you smiling. I can't wait to read whatever Jennifer Ryan releases next. This is part of a series,The McGraths, this is book one. However, it is connected to another series, Wild Rose Ranch, by way of characters from that series being in WAITING ON A COWBOY. You will want to read Wild Rose Ranch series but you don't have to read it. You aren't lost if you haven't read it. I will warn once you read Jennifer Ryan you'll add her to your auto-buy list and want to read everything she's written. Highly Recommended!!! Rating: 5 heat rating: hot View all my reviews
A group of young women from Smith College risk their lives in France at the height of World War I in this sweeping novel based on a true story—a skillful blend of Call the Midwife and The Alice Network—from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Willig.
A scholarship girl from Brooklyn, Kate Moran thought she found a place among Smith’s Mayflower descendants, only to have her illusions dashed the summer after graduation. When charismatic alumna Betsy Rutherford delivers a rousing speech at the Smith College Club in April of 1917, looking for volunteers to help French civilians decimated by the German war machine, Kate is too busy earning her living to even think of taking up the call. But when her former best friend Emmeline Van Alden reaches out and begs her to take the place of a girl who had to drop out, Kate reluctantly agrees to join the new Smith College Relief Unit.
Four months later, Kate and seventeen other Smithies, including two trailblazing female doctors, set sail for France. The volunteers are armed with money, supplies, and good intentions—all of which immediately go astray. The chateau that was to be their headquarters is a half-burnt ruin. The villagers they meet are in desperate straits: women and children huddling in damp cellars, their crops destroyed and their wells poisoned.
Despite constant shelling from the Germans, French bureaucracy, and the threat of being ousted by the British army, the Smith volunteers bring welcome aid—and hope—to the region. But can they survive their own differences? As they cope with the hardships and terrors of the war, Kate and her colleagues find themselves navigating old rivalries and new betrayals which threaten the very existence of the Unit.
With the Germans threatening to break through the lines, can the Smith Unit pull together and be truly a band of sisters?

A wonderful 20th anniversary edition! So first lets make that clear. This is a reissue of a previously released book. As the author notes she made very few changes.
Now for the story.
First thus us a medieval Scottish historical romance. The story is well written with characters you’ll love or love to hate. The villain I still wondered even though I read this one 20yrs ago, I still wondered if he could be redeemed. There are many secondary characters you will love and be eager to see again. The 2 main characters, Duncan and Linnet, are outstanding. Duncan has long been a favorite hero of mine. And young Robbie well, he’ll melt your heart. These are flawed, wounded characters, they are not perfect, they are human. They make mistakes. They learn. Linnet is a strong heroine who I have always at times wanted to shake yet I’ve always understood her actions. Duncan is an alpha hero who doesn’t believe he is redeemable. These two lost souls find a love neither expected. Fans of true medieval historical romances especially Scottish ones, not fluff historicals, but true historically based romance will enjoy Devil Ina Kilt. There is a sensualty to this story that is very well written. So this is not a sweet romance. There is violence, danger, romance, love, peace, sensualty and more. And I’m so happy to see this 20th anniversary edition available. Highly recommended.

Ohhh my….. What a great story. This is one of those reads that will leave you sighing yet eager to read the next book. The setting, in Nashville, Tennessee, will make you feel like you are there. But it’s the characters that truly draw you in. They are so realistic and believable that you’ll swear they are real. The story is one that will have you laughing, sighing, and at times telling the characters what to do lol. It’s a really well written engaging romance. The North Brothers are sigh worthy and the women they fall in love with aren’t weak they are strong women who make their men even better and best of all happy. I love a truly happy ending that leaves me smiling for days. This one is highly recommended!!!

“Did I do something wrong?”
Luke didn’t turn and look at her. He just continued to poke that fire when he said, “No.”
“Are you angry that I ruined your plans with Gabe last night?” It was a lame question. But really, Peyton didn’t know what else she could have done wrong, so whatever…as long as she kept him talking.
No. That was all she was entitled to. His one-word answers drove her crazy, especially since he didn’t seem to have any problem spending over ten minutes alone with Tasha talking or…maybe he didn’t spend that time engaging in conversation because maybe they were too busy…
“Did you f**k Tasha?”
He dropped the poker, sending it crashing to the floor. He picked it up, propped it against the brick fireplace and faced her. “No.”
“But she asked you to…to f**k her. Didn’t she?”
Peyton should have been happy and ridden out that wave of relief, but she wasn’t. His admission that he had just shot down Tasha, one of the sexiest supermodels in the world, only brought on more questions. Questions she really had no business asking. But what did she really have to lose? He had already seen her at her worst. Covered in sand and puke, she imagined that she had looked like a real keeper. So she fired away.
“Are you married?”
He took two steps toward her. “No.”
“Have a girlfriend?” Her voice wavered a bit. She had been more confident when he had been across the room poking the damn fire, but now he was drifting toward her, causing her to lose her nerve.
Three more steps. “No.”
“Oh.” That was all she could get out. She had done a lot of embarrassing things in her life, like when she had taken a header off the catwalk at a major show, or when she had a serious wardrobe malfunction and unintentionally flashed hundreds of people her ass. And then there were those photos of her that were posted on social media before she had gotten her s*it together. But this moment right here. This claimed the number one spot. “I get it. You’re just not interested…in me.”
Or maybe he senses what you are…
He made the distance between them disappear with two strides. His hands gripped her waist as he pinned her against the wall of windows at her back. “Do you honestly believe that I’m not attracted to you?”
His breathing was labored like hers and she was fighting to regain her composure. Trapped in his arms, his heated eyes searching hers, she fumbled for words. “I…I don’t know what you’re thinking. What you want.”
He swallowed hard and that vein near his temple pumped ferociously. His right hand tightened around her waist and his left cupped her cheek. “What do you want from me, Peyton?” he asked, his voice strained. He sounded as if he was in pain. And that’s when she felt something rock-hard press against her core. She didn’t need to look down or see the outline of his bulge to know that he was huge. She could feel it…every fucking where. “Say it,” he demanded.
“I want you to kiss me…please.”

Stella Lane was unlike any woman he’d ever met. Such a combination of stubborn pride and soft kindness. Not to mention drop-to-his-knees fucking gorgeous. She was the kind of woman a man didn’t get over. Or at least, he wouldn’t.
“You going to keep staring at me or are we going to play some pool ?” Stella rubbed the end of the stick with the blue chalk, her eyes dancing in a way he hadn’t seen before. Should have known she’d be competitive.
“I like staring at you. It’s a good view,” he said, racking up the balls.
“An off-limits view,” she reminded, coming around to break.
“Remind me why that is again.”
She’d started to lean over the table but stopped. “Why what is again?”
He didn’t know why he was stirring up a conversation like this when he agreed whole-heartedly with her views. But other parts of his body strongly disagreed.
“I kind of get the whole we work together thing, so we shouldn’t, but I get the impression you keep yourself off-limits in general. Haven’t seen any suitors showing up at our door. Who broke your heart, Doc?”
A flash of hurt widened her eyes and was gone before he could be sure he saw it. But it was as if his heart recognized it. He knew she’d been hurt. But seeing it in her face made him want to smack heads together.
“Tell you what; since I have a few questions of my own, why don’t we say every time one of us makes a shot, the other has to answer a question. Honestly.”
He stepped into her space, brushed a lock of hair off her cheek. “I’m always honest.”
Stepping back, she smiled and set herself up to break. She looked over her shoulder at him, caught him checking out her ass, and smirked. “Do we have a deal?”
He was a good shot, so he nodded. He wanted to know more about her, whatever it took.
She sent the white ball blazing across the felt and the rest of the balls scattered. A striped one went into the corner pocket.
“First shot doesn’t count,” he said.
Stella glared at him and walked around the table. “Don’t cheat. I’m stripes and you owe me an answer.”
“Fine. But you know what they say about payback.”
Stella paused, looking at the table before deciding where to shoot. “That’s the second time you’ve said that with no follow through. I’m not scared. Where was your first time?”
He smirked. Cute. But, in his opinion, she’d wasted a question. “Texas. I was nineteen.”
Stretching, she set the cue so she could hit a bank shot, but missed. Unfazed, she walked over to him.
“Why didn’t you come back to Brockton sooner?”
Zach’s throat went dry. Because he’d associated “making it” with a dollar amount. Once he’d been able to sink his money into a tangible future in the place he loved, he’d set his plans in motion. . “You didn’t sink your last shot. My turn.”
He went to the end of the table and lined up a shot, then sank it. He wanted real answers. “Why’d your last relationship end?”
Even as he moved to line up his next shot, he saw her face go pale. His stomach cramped—he wanted her to open up but he didn’t want her to be uncomfortable.
Stella’s fingers tightened around her cue. “He asked me to marry him. I said yes. When I tried to make plans to move forward, he kept stalling. Then I asked him about coming back here to live and he told me he’d never wanted to marry me in the first place. I was convenient and a really good vet.
