Can you tell us about your independent self-publishing journey?

My journey started last March when the Sr. Director position I’d held for thirteen years was eliminated. At first I was devastated, and then I decided that life is like a bank account. Once you spend it, it’s gone.
My dream since childhood was to write book after book. So I poured myself into writing Deadly Offerings, my first ebook.  The more I wrote, the more I got into the story and it felt wonderful.
I’d done a lot of Internet research about self-publishing and read articles about the top self-publishers and it inspired me so on December 27th I launched Deadly Offerings.
What is the best part of independent self-publishing for you?
I went Indie because I want to write what I want, when I want and how I want.  I’m very creative and love the control that comes with self-publishing.  I get to create my book covers, videos, and write about characters I love.  What’s not to like?  🙂
What will readers like about your book?
I think readers will like the interesting, but everyday characters involved in extraordinary circumstances in Deadly Offerings.  You won’t find princes or billionaires, but you will find characters with interesting personalities, unique wants and needs, and sense of humor.
My book will appeal to romance and romantic suspense readers who like spunky, intelligent heroines and sizzling hot heroes with hearts of gold.  In Deadly Offerings, my readers will fall in love with Michael Brandt and be very concerned about the safety of Anne Mason who is targeted by a serial killer who is using her cornfield in Indiana for a body dump.
Another thing readers will like about my book is that it is a fast-paced, page-turner that has the right mix of romance and suspense.
Who are your favorite authors in your genre?
I’m an avid reader of romantic suspense and there are many authors in this genre who have my respect.  My current favorite authors are Christy Reece, Karen Robards, Laura Griffin and the prolific Nora Roberts.  Each of these talented women is an expert at spinning an exciting tale around believable and loveable characters.
What was the most difficult part of the independent self-publishing process for you? The easiest?
Because this is my first book, the most difficult part of independent self-publishing is marketing the book and promoting myself as an Indie Author. The easiest part for me was writing the book.
Can you tell us what you’re working on right now?
I am working on the second book of the Deadly trilogy Deadly Deception.  This book will involve Frankie Douglas and Lane Hansen from Deadly Offerings and their undercover investigation into a murder and a shady adoption agency.  A sub-plot will involve Frankie’s college age cousin, Jennifer, who is pregnant and is keeping it a secret from family.  Unfortunately for her, she gets involved with the shady adoption agency which puts her into danger.
I’m hoping to launch Deadly Deception in April or May of this year.
Thank you for visiting with us and our readers today!

Deadly Offerings
Anne Mason thinks she’ll be safe living in the Midwest building a wind farm. She may be dead wrong. Someone is dumping bodies in her corn field and telling Anne they are gifts—for her! As the body count rises, Anne realizes a cold-blooded serial killer is patiently waiting and watching her every move. And he won’t stop until he ends her life. It is clear there are no limits to this killer’s thirst for revenge or how far he will go to get it.
Michael Brandt, the ruggedly handsome new County Prosecutor is the last person Anne can trust, but may offer her only chance at survival from a psychopathic killer. But will she survive the passion that rages between them?

  1. I love romantic suspense. This sounds like a winner. I can't wait to read it. Thanks for sharing!

You have a very interesting perspective on self publishing. You brought up many excellent points. Thanks for your insight on that as well.

    1. Wow. I hope you read it and tell me your thoughts. 🙂

Self-publishing has helped me realize a lifelong dream. It means a lot to me.

  2. I enjoyed reading Deadly Offerings – it's a great book! Don't enter me into the contest because I already have it. I'm looking forward to Alexa's next book in the trilogy!

  3. 'Alexa', I'm so impressed by how you've made sparkly lemonade from your lemony surprise… congrats!

  4. I'm delighted to meet you, Alexa. Congratulations on having the courage to travel the self-publishing path and I hope you have a great deal of success. I love romantic suspense novels and I'm looking forward to reading this first book in the Deadly series (well, the whole trilogy, really! :O) Great blurb~

  5. Congrats on self-publishing. This book sounds amazing. Can't wait to read it along with the rest of the Deadly trilogy.

    1. Thanks, Joanne. So glad you're going to read DEADLY OFFERINGS and the rest of the trilogy.

Hope you enjoy and send me your thoughts.

  6. Congratulations to you, Alexa, not only on your first self-published novel (which, according to reviews on Amazon, sure seems like a success in these early months after release!), but also on bouncing back pretty immediately after losing your job and writing, polishing, and publishing that first novel in less than 9 months!! What a whirlwind that must have been! I know there's no way I could have accomplished so much in that amount of time! Great job, that takes some amazing dedication.

"Deadly Offerings" does sound great, and as I mentioned, the reviews on Amazon are sure looking positive for you. I wish you the best of luck with this book and the rest of the trilogy! I will definitely be reading the book, even if I am not one of the lucky 4 to win a copy from you (which, by the way, is very generous of you).

Thanks to MBA&M for yet another great author interview!!

    1. Holly,

Hope you read the book and send me your thoughts.
