#GIVEAWAY AND #VISIT WITH AMISH AUTHOR, AMANDA FLOWER,”A PLAIN SCANDAL”..

MBA&M IS PROUD TO WELCOME…

AMANDA FLOWER

AND

A PLAIN SCANDAL

~~So, without further ado,welcome, Amanda~~

MBA&M: What is the allure of Amish to readers today?

AMANDA: I think readers are drawn to Amish fiction because in a crazy busy world, we tend to wish for a simpler life. A lot of Amish fiction portrays that beautifully. I include that in my series, but I also show the uncomfortable parts of Amish life too, such as why someone may to choose to leave it. Two of my central characters, Timothy Troyer and his sister Becky Troyer, have left their Amish communities to live as Englischers. An overarching theme of the series is how they deal with their Amish family and friends. Many times the relationships are strained.

MBA&M: What was the magic in writing Amish/mystery genre for you?

AMANDA: In a world where a lot of detecting can be done from a computer, sleuthing with the click of a mouse doesn’t work for an Amish mystery because the Amish don’t use technology. Most Amish don’t even have telephones. Consequently, my non-Amish protagonist has to interview them face-to-face, and since some Amish are leery of English, non-Amish people, that makes great opportunities for conflict.

MAB&M: What is next for the “Appleseed Creek” Mysteries?

AMANDA: A Plain Scandal is the second book in the series, and I’m happy to share that I am contracted to write a total of seven books set in Appleseed Creek. The first six novels will be narrated by computer specialist Chloe Humphrey. The seventh book will be a Christmas novella narrated by former Amish teen Becky Troyer.

ABOUT THE NOVEL

The Amish in the quiet Appleseed Creek community are under attack. An unknown assailant is cutting off the long hair of Amish women and the beards of Amish men. Computer specialist, Chloe Humphrey, is alarmed over the crimes against the Amish and worries over how the events will impact the Troyer family, especially her housemate Becky and Becky’s older brother Timothy. Her anxiety increases when she discovers the body of an Amish businessman, who had been stabbed in the back and his beard cut off. Now, Chloe and her friends must find the culprit behind the hair-cutting before someone else pays the ultimate price.

  1. Well, My Book Addition and More, I am also “addicted” to Amish novels. Just as Amanda Flower stated, I believe the draw is because, as a reader, I find it absolutely refreshing to “escape” from my busy life and read of a life which is much calmer. Every Amish novel I have read has left me relaxed and able to reflect on and be thankful for the blessings in my own life.

I’m looking forward to reading “A Plain Scandal.” While I have not read Amanda’s first novel, I am adding both to my Wish List.

  4. Congratulations on having a contract for seven books in the Appleseed Creek series!! I enjoy sitting down with an Amish story on occasion – have been reading Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder series – so I'm sure i would enjoy these mysteries. Does each book in the series stand alone or would it be necessary to read them in order? Wishing you continued success~
