Good morning Rebecca and welcome to My Book Addiction and More….

G’morning, and thank you for having me here at My Book Addiction and More…. I’m so excited to be here!  I do hope you realize when I say “morning” I really mean it. According to my clock it’s, let’s see, 12:28am, and I’ve just gotten up to get some work done. Of course, by the time I finish writing all this up it will be much later…however, knowing me, it’ll probably still be “morning!” As in the sun has not yet come up and there’s still so much to do! 

MBA&M: Please give our readers a few tidbits about Rebecca Sinclair?

REBECCA: Okay. Here’s something few people know about me: When I first started writing all those many years ago, I was considered prolific. I mean, I wrote long historical romances to the tune of two books per year, if not more! These days I’m a more careful, thoughtful writer—and by that I don’t necessarily mean slow. I prefer to take my time and really savor both the research and the writing stages of putting a book together. I’m no longer in a rush to “pump books out”, nor do I have anyone, shall we say “encouraging” me to do so. Instead, I feel have earned the luxury of writing at my own pace, finally, and I’m absolutely loving it!

MBA&M: What do you think the appeal of romance is to readers?

REBECCA: Hmmm…. You mean aside from a hero to-die-for in both mind and body? And a heroine who epitomizes all the qualities we only wish we had? As well as settings of exotic locales that make us as a reader forget, even for just a minute, that dirty diapers need to be changed, or business files need to be transcribed, or dissertations need to be mapped out? Then, of course, while there’s a guaranteed HEA, there’s no guarantee of how it’s arrived at…which brings into play all kinds of hair-raising, spine-tingling, toe-curling adventures. Mix in a delicious dose of intimacy, spiced-to-taste, and several unexpected bumps in the always-complicated relationship road, and you’ve got—  <ahem!> I’m sorry, maybe I didn’t understand the question. You see, from my point of view, what isn’t appealing about a good romance?

MBA&M: Which do you enjoy writing more Contemporary, Medieval, Time-Travel or Young Adult?

REBECCA: Whichever I’m writing at the moment. I make it a practice to fall in love with my w-i-p and the characters in it. While I’m working on it, the current project is always my favorite.

MBA&M: We see you are coming off of a ten year sabbatical, how hard was it to get back into writing and how do you see things are changing?

REBECCA: It wasn’t hard to go back to writing. That came as natural as breathing. Going back to publishing, OTOH, was something else again. From what I can see, I think it’s safe to say everything has changed. EBooks, which had just scratched the surface back then, are exploding and finding an ever-growing audience ten years later. Social media now works as its own branch of the marketing arm. And Amazon publishes its own books! New York publishers require manuscripts to be sent digitally, and many agents even prefer to be queried that way. Acceptances/rejections are virtually instantaneous. There are whole communities available to writers today—from casual to uber-professional—that can be taken advantage of without getting out of your Pj’s, any hour of the day/night.

These are things I only dreamt of when I started networking on my computer back in the 80s. You know, back when there wasn’t a Web that most people today would recognize, when no one had heard of Amazon because they hadn’t started selling books yet, and Google was still a thing of the future. I’m told dinosaurs were also roaming the earth then, but I couldn’t tell you; I was too busy writing to notice (Oh, and playing around online—yes, there was an “online”, even then, if you knew how to find it!)

It looks like once the cyber world took over; everything started changing at an astonishing rate publishing included. I can’t see it slowing down any time soon. Just the opposite, I see it speeding up.

MBA&M:Out of all of your books which is your favorite and why?

REBECCA: My next one. Because it’s going to be oh, so much better than all the ones that came before it. (Like every writer, this is my mantra every time I start a new book. ha-ha!)

MBA&M: When you do a series do you have each book in mind before you start writing or as you go?

I think I’m the only writer these days who doesn’t do series. Lol! While a couple of characters in my early books are related, I don’t even do cross-overs. All my books are stand alones.

MBA&M: Where do your ideas come from?

Urg! I was afraid you’d ask that. To be honest, I have a devil of a time coming up with ideas. I mean, I really, really struggle. The process can take weeks, months, sometimes longer!  While I can look tell you where I got the idea for each of my published books (the sources are wild and varied) I can’t tell you where I’ll even begin to look for my next idea. Sometimes a fact in a history book fascinates me and I’ll start digging, wanting to know more. Sometimes a tidbit in a documentary on TV catches my eye and gets me off and running. But many, many more times I get the basic kernel of an idea from something I’ve misread or misheard or in some insane way that is intrinsically my own, completely and totally misunderstood.
