Please help us welcome today’s guest, Emily Greenwood!
Welcome, Emily!! *Waving, grinning and shouting*
Hello, and thank you very much for having me here today to celebrate the release of MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT!
MBA&M: Please tell those who may not have read any of your titles, a bit about Emily Greenwood?
EG: I write playful, sexy Regency romances that I hope will make readers smile but also tug on their heartstrings. When I’m not dreaming about the world of country estates and ballrooms and lovers who don’t realize how perfect they are for each other, I’m running to the grocery store, driving one of my daughters to a lesson or practice, racking my brain for something to serve for dinner, cleaning the guinea pig cage, etc.
MBA&M: What drew you to write Historical Romance?
EG: I love the classic novels of the nineteenth century, like those of Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, and when I discovered romance novels set in England in the 1800s, I started reading them by the bagful. I love that today’s historical romances include all the things contemporary authors didn’t or couldn’t write about at the time, like the deep exploration of feelings, and kissing, LOL. As for the Regency era in particular, it offers plenty of opportunity for drama because of all the societal rules—what could be more fun than finding ways to break them?
MBA&M: Why a tale of Regency Mischief?
EG: The Regency is the perfect setting for mischief! It was a time when people celebrated wit, which is a great partner for mischief. Also, when writing the Mischief stories, I thought today’s readers would be more willing to believe historical characters would get caught up in the shenanigans in the stories, like the love potion in MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT, and the possibly haunted sheep that are scaring some of the townspeople in GENTLEMEN PREFER MISCHIEF.
MBA&M: How many stories will be in the “Regency Mischief” series?
EG: There are three stories in the series, which run in this order: A LITTLE NIGHT MISCHIEF, GENTLEMEN PREFER MISCHIEF, and finally, MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT.
MBA&M: Why do you write tales which are witty, light-hearted, and engaging?
EG: Romantic comedies are my favorite kind of story. Life can be full of heavy burdens, sorrows, and anxieties, and I need a vacation from all that sometimes. Also, I love stories that follow characters as they change to let more love into their lives—what could be more important?
MBA&M: How do you prioritize your day?
EG: After the kids have been seen off to school, I settle down for three or four hours of writing. After about four hours at the computer, I really start to peter out in what I’m bringing to a story, so I take a break to run errands or get some exercise. Once my kids get home from school, there’s way too much going on for me to get much writing done –unless I’m under some kind of desperate deadline
Thank you, Emily, for taking a few moments out of your busy schedule to visit with us and our readers today!
