The Crow Maiden
Book 3: The Arcadia Series

(The Crow Maiden is a standalone story in the Arcadia Series)

She betrayed her goddess for him…
He betrayed her.
Plotting her revenge is her only solace. Until now.

Nahla is the Crow Maiden, an Arcadian, and once a priestess of Artemis. Now she is a captive, a being who lives in the shadows until her vile master the sorcerer-king Aramon summons her. Another releases her from the Shadowlands, and while he might be the champion she has waited for, the gods must be playing a cruel joke. Her champion is crippled.

An Achaean lord who once ruled a great city, Balin is a broken man. He has lost everything—his kingdom and his family. Revenge consumes him. Although wary of the mysterious, cold-eyed female who appears and claims he summoned her, she may be his only hope to exact vengeance on the king who ruined him, the same man Nahla seeks to destroy.

They are bound by revenge, and soon, both learn they are bound by much more, but the secrets she hides might tear them apart and ruin their only opportunity for vengeance—and their chance to love again.

Short Excerpt (PG):

“Who is she to you?”
“She is a loyal servant, nothing more.”
She crossed her arms. “Her expression revealed she feels more deeply than a loyal servant should feel for her master.”
“And you are an expert on love?” He tilted his head and gave her a sidelong glance. “I think not.”
Nahla reacted with an open-mouthed frown.
He raised one wry eyebrow. “A sharp tongue is like a slap in the face, is it not?”
Her face grew hot. “Your harsh words do not affect me.”
He scratched his scraggly beard. “Hmm. If you say so.”
“Either way, her affection for you could be useful.”
He arched both eyebrows. “How so?”
“Aramon will summon me soon. I will need someone to care for you while I am gone. Someone to make certain you get the treatments you need for your leg.” She didn’t want him reverting back to his terrible habits.
He frowned. “I do not want her involved in this.”
“So, you do have affection for the maiden.” An unexpected sharp twinge rippled through her chest.
He glowered at her. “How do you know Aramon will summon you?”
She sighed. “He always does, mostly because he knows I hate it. I will not be with him long, though, because I will make my stay unpleasant for him, and he will send me away.” She glanced at him. “Back to you.”
“How fortunate for me.” He sat up with a grimace. “Making it unpleasant for him must be a simple task for you.”
She punched the sheepskin covering his healthy thigh. “I can be even more unpleasant if that is your wish, Achaean.”
He narrowed his eyes and grunted something she didn’t understand, but it sounded like “viper-tongued nag.” His pain made him sullen, but what if he truly despised waking up next to her and being around her?
Stop it, Nahla. You cannot have these thoughts about him. Her chest ached with surprising sorrow. There was something she hadn’t told him. She wasn’t certain she could.
