Hostage To Love – Blog Tour

Destination – Africa…..

I’ve had a few readers ask why I chose Africa as a setting for HOSTAGE TO LOVE. The answer is simply that Africa is a fascinating place. I’m a huge film and travel buff, and films that are set in Africa feature highly on my must-have lists. Zulu and Out of Africa with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford being two of my all-time favorites movies.

But I guess what sparked the opening scene of this book was a random conversation I was having with my husband. Or maybe it wasn’t so random.

My husband is a broadcast journalist and reports on all things Africa.

It just so happened that he was reporting on the atrocities going on in the Congo around the time I was tinkering with the plot for HOSTAGE TO LOVE.

Cue my overactive writer’s imagination. I made him explain to me in detail what was happening in the area, when it started, who the main players were, what they hoped to achieve etc etc etc. Several hours later, my villain Charles Mwana was a fully-fleshed out character.

As if often is with all such personalities, he believes he’s doing the “right thing” and sees people as collateral damage in his righteous war. Despite this fatalistic trait, I had to give him a love of his country, a love of the land he believed he was fighting for. So Nawaka was born.

Rich in diamonds and other minerals, I set it next to The Congo in Eastern Africa. The people are warm and giving, just like the Congolese my husband described to me. And they have a fierce pride in their motherland.

Of course, the other reason for setting the opening in Nawaka was because I had to give Belle, my heroine, a cause and a destination after she walked away from her marriage and her husband, Nick.

For Belle, who yearned for a child of her own, volunteering at a severely deprived orphanage in Nawaka seemed the perfect fit. Luckily, she too fell in love with the rich, semi-savannah landscape, the indigenous foods and children she was charged with caring for.

Unfortunate really that things went sideways for her once Mwana took an unhealthy interest in her. I’m sure she would’ve loved to stay in beautiful Nawaka for a little while longer!

Thank you Maya, for spending time with us! Africa sounds thrilling!

INTERVIEW WITH ZAMBIAN AUTHOR,JENNIPHER.M. ZULU….

IT IS WITH PLEASURE  MY BOOK ADDICTION AND MORE PRESENTS….
ZAMBIAN AUTHOR,JENNIPHER M.  ZULU!!
WELCOME, JENNIPHER (JANE)!!
(Image from the author’s website)
MBA&M: Tell our readers a little about Jennipher Zulu?

JANE:   I’m Zambian by birth and citizenship. I started writing in 1996; but it was still just for fun back then. I only started publishing my work last year, after leaving my last job; that is when I had proper time on my hands to do some writing.

MBA&M: What where the challenges in writing”Life’s Purpose”?

JANE:  First, I knew that I wanted my work published this time, but I didn’t know where to start from, or who to approach; so it took me quite some time to find my publisher. Second, unlike my old writing, I now had to learn and incorporate professional writing; taking into account the ‘dos and don’ts’, formatting, alignment, covers etc. All in all, I really had to learn writing from scratch- except for the ideas of course.

MBA&M: Why write a book self-discovery type book?
JANE:

The period that I wrote this book, is a period that I did a lot of soul searching and I can say, much of what is in this book is remedy for my soul search. It’s a time that I looked to see who Jane is, what her purpose in life is and consequently, what Jane is going to do in life. But I also realized, that that there are many people out there who are facing, or going through this same period; of really, trying to understand their being; who they really are and what their life’s purpose is. And unfortunately, I think there are many people out there, who are living life as prescribed by day to day circumstances; life’s winds simply blows them in any direction and they go along. I believe that, we all want to have some control over our lives, or at least have some sense of direction as to where we are going, what we want to achieve etc and we all want our lives to have some meaning and value, so as to leave a mark, signature, or print of some kind. So, I wrote Life’s purpose,in the hope of helping others out there, through this quest; as I believe that, if one does not understand his/her purpose in life, they’ll live their lives forever asking these questions. And I also believe that many people go into crisis, because because they don’t understand who they are enough to know their value. They are always in a quest to be like others, or to adopt other people’s lives and when they don’t live up to those standards, they simply fall into crisis.

MBA&M: Do you feel there is a wide audience in today’s reader market for self-discovery or Christian non-fiction book? Why?

JANE:
Life’s Purpose is especially relevant for anyone who is still trying to figure out who he/she is and where to go in life.  And also, in my part of the world; yes, there is a wide market. As Africans, we’ve been scrambling to adopt other cultures and live lives as we assume we ought to; as stipulated, by the standards of the cultures we are adopting. For a long time, we have overlooked our uniqueness and identities; that is putting aside the negatives. I believe that, as we are developing, we have reached a time, when we have to define ourselves. This is a message that is echoing around the region and ‘Life’s Purpose’, bears a loud message, that is relevant to fuel this process. However, this does not mean that it is only for Africans, but I believe it is relevant for even an American, Japanese or any other person out there on a quest to self discovery. Besides, these are messages preached in churches around the world; self belief, self value, destiny etc Thus, yes, I believe there is a wide market Christian non-fiction; yes I also think there’s market out there because I think, when it comes to ministry; every gift should be a channel and the church family is there to give the support; that is when you market from church to church.
MBA&M: What is the one thing you would like to accomplish in your writing career?
JANE:   I want to be relevant to the world’s needs; provide solutions and answers; when and where need arises and I also just want to find fulfillment and in the end; become a big na
MBA&M: Where did the idea of “Life’s Purpose” come from?
JANE:  .

As earlier discussed, Life’s purpose was a remedy to my own quest

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where “Life’s Purpose” is available?

Product Description(From Amazon)

This is a motivational book meant to inspire self discovery and the appreciation of self worth. Many of us, are not contributing or giving out as we ought to because we do not know who we really are; what is deposited inside of us and thus, we do not know what and how much we can give out. And some of us are doing things they are not called for, just in the name of having a ‘job’ and thus, not contributing to the fullest potential. As a remedy for real success, one needs to know first, who he or she is, what he or she is and his or her worth and value. This book emphasizes the uniqueness and relevance of each person and how we each have a place and role to take up and play in life.
