Devil in the Details (Book 4 in the Days of New series)

Set in the same world as Meg Collett’s bestselling End of Days series comes the darkly comedic paranormal serial spin-off series, Days of New.

“Clark was human, Nephil, Descendant. He was good and bad. He was the dirty magic of evil angels. He was still the pink-haired kid who had fallen into a cave and found a broken angel. He was a reaper and a savior. A lost boy who just wanted his friends to stop dying.”

Zarachiel is a broken holy angel who just wants to save people. The pain from his torn out wings reminds him everyday just how far the holy angels have fallen from grace. Like it is his burden to bear, he sets out to right their wrongs every day.

Clark wants to save the person he loves most in the world, but she doesn’t want his help or his love. Unlike Zarachiel, who saves everyone he can, Clark can’t seem to save even one person.

Peace can be as deadly as war, and someone won’t survive.

DEVIL IN THE DETAILS by Meg Collette is a unique Paranormal  Fantasy Romance.
“Set in the same world as Meg Collett’s bestselling End of Days series comes the darkly comedic paranormal serial spin-off series, Days of New.”

This was my first time reading this series, while you need to read the others in the series, it was not hard to catch up or follow.

I would strongly recommend reading the others in this series, first and in order. “Speaking of the Devil”, “Full of the Devil”, and “Better the Devil You Know”.

A unique, fast paced, quick read. The characters are interesting, but complex. The storyline is unique, the author does an excellent job of world building. Angels, both holy, and evil  are a part of this tale. As well as evil vs good.

Meet, Zarachiel, a broken holy angel, Cameille, Clark, and Michaela.

A Lost Boys tale with a few twists and turns. While, comedic at times it is a dark Paranormal as well. You will need tissues at times.

Well written, with vivid details. Fans of dark Comedic Paranormal romance will enjoy “Devil in the Details”. As well as, fans of Paranormal Romance, Angels, Demons and Fantasy Romance. An enjoyable read! Please be aware this is a new serial series.

Dragon Mine

ABOUT THE AUTHOR(From the publisher’s website)

Things that go bump in the night have always fascinated Jaime Rush. Sometimes those things are human; other times, not so much. Now she has twisted them all together in the Hidden, a trilogy about humans with the essence of gods who walk the knife’s edge between the glamour of Miami and a place filled with dark magick and dangerous beauty.

Jaime is the author of the Offspring series and also writes under the name Tina Wainscott. She is the bestselling author of eighteen romance novels. She lives in Southwest Florida with her husband, daughter, and cat.

MBA&M: Good morning, Jaime, please give our readers some insight on Jaime Rush?

JAIME: Good morning! Thanks much for having me. Jaime Rush is a pseudonym for my real name, Tina Wainscott. As Tina, I’ve published 18 romantic suspense novels. As Jamie, I created the Offspring series, which was more paranormal than my Tina books. And now I’m really jumping into the paranormal with dragons angels and magic!

I’ve always been fascinated by the mysterious, the unexplained, and the downright spooky. With my Hidden series, I’m delving into a world that explains some of the weird stuff that happens to all of us. Like when your socks go missing from the dryer, when half of your watermelon martini is gone and you don’t remember drinking it, or when the hairs on the back of your neck rise for no discernible reason.

MBA&M: Why do you write Paranormal Romance?

JAIME: [Actually, I basically answered that in the previous answer J]

MBA&M: Who influenced you the most in writing this genre?

JAIME: I enjoyed Shana Abe’s Drakon series and I love all of the action in Illona Andrews’s books. I wouldn’t use the word influenced per se, but certainly inspired. When I started reading both their books, I had no intention of writing about shapeshifters. Then I met Cyn, the hero of DRAGON AWAKENED, and everything changed…

Dragon MineMBA&M: What was the driving force behind writing “Dragon Mine”?

JAIME: I like the idea of introducing the series with a novella (or two!) so new readers can sample my writing and the series in a short, inexpensive way. I wanted the first two novellas to be connected, so I made the hero in DRAGON MINE and the heroine in DRAGON RISING twins. And while the initiating factor is their father’s disappearance, each story has its own romance and his/her own plot to solve.

I started writing short stories way back when and then graduated to novels. So the idea of writing a novella, which is sort of in between, was interesting and challenging. I’ve now written five of them and have to say I really enjoy the shorter format. On the downside, you can’t take as much time to really delve into the characters and all their juicy pathos. Still, I find I can pack a lot of plot and character and romance into a short story.

MBA&M: Why a novella, and is a novella harder to write or easier in your opinion?

JAIME: [Again, I guess I answered this question in the previous one.]

MBA&M: “Dragon Mine” is the beginning of a new series,”The Hidden”,correct? What will be the first story up,and how many will be in the series, attentively. Inquiring minds what to know,or me anyway?

JAIME: The first stories of the Hidden are the two novellas. The second one, DRAGON RISING, comes out October 1. Then I’m thrilled that the first three full books, out in both digital and paperback, debut back-to-back starting December 17. Those three books are loosely connected by an overarching plot but are standalone. Which as I read this makes it sound so simple. In reality it made me crazy trying to coordinate all the time lines, villains, and plots.  As far as future books, that will depend on the readers. LOL

Dragon MineMBA&M: “Dragon Mine” is a Paranormal Romantic Suspense, correct? How hard is it to write a romantic suspense with paranormal/fantasy elements? And where do you find research on this matter?

JAIME: Yes, I love and need suspense in my romance. Balancing suspense and the romance can be tricky enough. Throw in the paranormal elements, and it’s a bit like juggling. I can’t say it’s easy, but it is challenging (in a good way). I think the hardest thing about writing paranormal is that you have so many elements to choose from that it can be daunting. Keeping track of, for instance, the different types of Dragons and their powers and their limitations. And demons, oy vey! What can they do, how many types, which ones to use in any particular scene… You get the idea!

MBA&M: Which Paranormal author would you say influenced your writing career, and which author influenced your writing style the most?

JAIME: This sounds a lot like the earlier questions so I think I have covered this too. J

MBA&M: Jaime, what a pleasure to have you with us and our readers today, please tell us where to connect with you and where we may find “Dragon Mine”?

JAIME: It was great to be here! I love connecting with readers and booksellers. The easy place to find out more about my books is my website. For interacting, come by my Facebook page or follow me on Twitter. Thanks!

TerminusAbout the Book:

How far must an angel fall to find his destiny?

Having witnessed one too many senseless deaths, Nikolai, a disillusioned Reaper 3rd Class, resigns his commission with the Angel Forces after a tedious century of gathering souls.

Immediately, another division recruits him with the promise of a more rewarding career, and issues his initial assignments: To bring down a few very dangerous threats to the human race. In the process, Nikolai falls in love with one of his targets—Hope Matheson, a woman who will lead thousands astray.

Caught between conflicting agendas, Nikolai chooses to “fall” from his celestial state and become mortal in order to circumvent angel law and be with her. But for angels and humans alike, things are not always as they appear. Still a target, the threat against Hope’s life intensifies.

Now, in order to save her, Nikolai must rally the last remnants of his failing supernatural abilities to prevent her assassination, as well as the destruction of an entire city by a nuclear terrorist strike.

But his time and power are running out…

Terminus is a perspective-altering saga that delves into ageless themes of redemption, destiny, and the eternal power of love.

First Chapter for First Chapter Reveal:

The man in the black leather jacket had looked down for just three seconds to read a text message on his phone. And in the interim, his five-year-old Houdini of a stepdaughter Chloe had unstrapped herself, climbed out of her car seat, and slipped out of sight—nowhere near the doorway of the office where he was to meet his contact.

Just three lousy seconds!

His mouth went dry.

He scanned the streets, sidewalk, between cars, to the left then right then a quick three-sixty. Despite the thorough sweep, which took all of two seconds, he didn’t see her.

She didn’t answer, but he spotted her. Way down the street, her auburn pigtails bouncing with each step.

“Chloe! Wait!” He slammed shut the back door of his Focus. Didn’t bother to lock it.Ran up the sidewalk—fast. But the little stinker was fixated on a black cat luring her across the imaginary border that separated thegentrified arts district of Carleton Village and the slums of East Brentwood.

The cat bolted around the corner at the sound of the man’s agitated shouts. Both hands outstretched, Chloe giggled and ran even faster.

He nearly tripped over an uneven seam in the sidewalk as he ran, his heart going faster than his feet.

A pair of SDPD squad cars with flashing red and blue beacons raced past Birch and came to a screeching halt somewhere around the corner of Lamont.

The little girl turned the same corner and vanished behind the red bricks of the apartment building. Straight onto Lamont.

“Stop, Chloe!” He’d gained but was still several steps behind.

The sound of a policeman shouting filled his head. Could things get any worse? He ran even harder.

It all happened within a matter of seconds.

Three lousy seconds.

That’s what it took for him to round the corner and make out the figure fleeing the pimped-out Honda Civic that had crashed into a hydrant. The gunman shot at the cops, who now stood behind the open doors of their angled cars.

The man in the black leather jacket leapt at Chloe.

“Get down!”

Over his shout, the shouts of the police, the screams of frightened pedestrians, came a deafening pop! whose impact toppled him.

Chloe screamed.

A sudden chill overtook him as a crimson pool expanded around his face, now planted on the cold concrete sidewalk. He tried to speak, stretched his fingers towards Chloe. Felt nothing but the cold pumping though his entire body.

Life didn’t flash before his eyes.

He heard more gunshots.

The last thing he saw was Chloe lurching back, her pigtails flailing to the side. As though in slow motion, she was falling.

He never saw her hit the ground.

My Favorite Christmas Memories

By: Janet K. Halling, Author of An Unexpected Angel, available now!

I have many wonderful memories of Christmas. My family had a lot of traditions that are probably familiar to many…pajamas for Christmas Eve, a special Christmas dinner (on the good china!), reading the Christmas story from the Bible, delivering treats to the neighbors… these things and many more created the wonderful Christmases of my childhood.

Among my favorite memories are the years my siblings and I would sleep in the same room. We didn’t do it every year – for reasons that will soon become obvious – but when we did, it was awesome.

We slept in my room because it was the biggest and because it was directly over my parent’s bedroom. I don’t know why they allowed this. Probably because all the hollering and banging around up there meant they could at least keep track of us all, especially on this night when stealth was so important!

After one last Christmas carol, a family prayer, and some truly speedy washing up, my two sisters and three brothers would drag their sleeping bags into my room. Everyone smelled like new flannel and toothpaste and we were all overly-sugared, wild-eyed, and completely crazy with excitement.

It would begin innocently enough. My parents would tuck us in, kiss us goodnight, and close the door. We would lie there quietly until inevitably someone would let out a happy little shriek. Then someone else would shriek back and maybe start kicking to rustle their sleeping bag. And on and on until we had become complete maniacs…jumping, squealing, laughing, pounding on the floor, shouting Santa Claus songs at the top of our lungs…one year we even pulled my bed into the middle of the room and did gymnastics over it.

Inevitably, Mom would come in and tell us to quiet down so we’d straighten our bedding, turn out the lights, and try again. And always with the same result. Complete chaos until finally we collapsed from exhaustion.

Now I am a mom and am trying to give my children that same Christmas magic. And some years I have to poke my head into my daughter’s room to tell my four children to settle down because they are jumping, squealing, and laughing; overly-sugared, wild-eyed, and smelling of new flannel and toothpaste.

And I smile.

Oh! What a wonderful memory! Thanks for sharing your Christmas memory with us and our readers.

An Unexpected Angel

It was Christmas Eve, and the Empire State Building was lit with red and green. The streets were jammed with traffic, and the fog was rolling in off the Hudson, turning the streetlights into misty orbs.

Ella sighed and turned away from the window and the twinkling lights below, determined not to give in to the painful memories that had been lurking in the back of her mind all day.

Ella Davies hates Christmas. Every year she spends the holidays working, trying to bury the pain of a childhood tragedy. But this season, Ella’s about to learn something only an angel could teach her.

With the help of an unlikely friend, Ella gains new hope and discovers the truth about her past, learning the power of forgiveness along the way.

This modern twist on a Christmas classic will remind you that the best gifts of all are the loved ones you learn to treasure!

About Where Theres Smoke

Karen Kelley

When sexy wannabe-demon, Destiny Carter, is kicked out of Hell, she lands in Ft. Worth, Texas with one week to corrupt a soul. Or else. She slips into a slinky red dress, and heads straight for the delicious, corruptible looking cowboy at the bar.
But Chance Bellew has his own agenda-saving souls. He’s not your typical angel. He’s a nephilim, to be exact. Centuries ago, angels came down from Heaven and mated with mortal women. When the women bore children, a new race was created. Immortals with powers—demigods, nephilim.
But the children don’t live by the same rules as mortals, or that of the typical, robe-wearing, bright light-surrounding-them angels. Hell, most of the time the nephilim are breaking the rules, and making up new ones as they go. As long as they don’t cross over to the dark side, everyone pretty much stays out of their way.
But sometimes a demon-in-training, who looks like Destiny, comes along and all Hell breaks loose.
