LL copyAUTHOR INFORMATION & LINKS

Lily Lee’s first children’s book is to be published this year. She is a well-socialized introvert who, when she isn’t playing with paint or bits of paper or children, is pondering two of life’s most important questions: “Who made that a rule?” and “How can we turn this into a game?”. It wasn’t easy, but she was recently persuaded to give her attention to a few other questions:

Q: Favorite cookie?

A: Anything freshly baked by someone who loves me.

Q: Three things you’d need on a desert island?

A: A good knife, a piece of string and a computer with unlimited high-speed internet access. Oh. And lip balm. Maybe a frying pan. Books! I forgot books! No, books will be on the computer…are a computer and internet access two things or one thing? Wait! I could make string out of coconut fibers! And if there are coconuts, I could make lip balm too! So, now can I take matches, and maybe books? Is a lighter better than matches? … I’m sorry, what was the question?

Q: Are there books that have changed your life?

A:Books are always changing my life, or at least changing my mind, which might be the same thing. Ravenswood is publishing “Addy the Fruit Bat and a Visit to Cat” this year- it’ll be the first of my stories to be set on a page. Does that count as life changing, or is it just really, really exciting?

Q: What children’s books do you most admire?

A: I love simple, good-humored stories that give grown-ups and children lots of fun things to talk about. There are books by Dr. Seuss, Mercer Mayer, Maurice Sendak and Stephen Kellogg that probably haunt my adult children’s dreams . It’s not just the classics I love though- in fact, if you haven’t read, or read to a child, books by David Somar and Jacky Davis, Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith, Mo Willems, or Laura Nuemeroff, read them as soon as you can. No, don’t. If you do that, you will have no reason at all to read any book of mine. And I would really like you to read my book.

Enter Zachary Collins: ex-TV star of ‘The Psychic Detective’ and street-wise private investigator – all 6 foot blue-eyed gorgeousness!

ANGELA CAMPBELL~ ON THE SCENT …. Q&A AND GIVEAWAY

TODAY’S Q&A AND GIVEAWAY:

ANGELA CAMPBELL

{Contemporary Romantic Suspense}

~ON THE SCENT~

(Book 1 in a series)

Picture

so without further ado….

WELCOME ANGELA!!

MBA&M: Hi, Angela, thank you for visiting with us today! Please tell our readers a little about yourself?

I’m an eclectic reader who loves almost every genre, but I read my first romance novel at 16. The more I read, the more I wanted to write similar books. Many offbeat attempts (and a couple of decades) later, I published my first story through Carina Press and have since sold a three-book series to Harper Impulse. I always try to build in a paranormal element to a contemporary and recognizable world with characters who find love in oftentimes humorous and extraordinary situations. That aside, I’m also a mild-mannered reporter with almost 15 years experience as a general assignment reporter, features editor and graphic designer. I’ve also worked as a production assistant in TV and film. I’m a HUGE advocate of animal rescue. I love all animals, especially my spoiled rotten sidekick-in-fur, Dusti (she’s a cat).

MBA&M: What was your inspiration for writing “On The Scent”?

I read an article about an Italian heiress who left her entire fortune of £10 million to a stray black cat she fed regularly, and her nurse was left in charge of the cat. I’m a huge animal lover, but even I thought, “That’s craaazy!” But as my mind has a tendency to do, it started pinging off ideas for a story in different directions. What if this happened to a nurse here? She might need protection. Oooh, hunky bodyguard! What if he was more than a bodyguard? What if he had psychic abilities and could communicate with the animals? What if the heiress wasn’t who she’d claimed to be? And so on.

MBA&M: What inspired you to write Romantic Suspense in general?

I never intentionally set out to write romantic suspense, but it seems every time my story starts moving along, suddenly there’s a suspense element to it. I think I just love suspense in general, whether it be in movies or books, so it always finds its way into whatever I’m working on. My father is a retired FBI officer and police officer, and I often wonder if I inherited his penchant for solving mysteries.

MBA&M: Who was your favorite character in “On The Scent” to write? Why?

It’s a toss up between Abbott and Costello, but I’ll go ahead and say Costello. Yes, I chose the dog over the human characters. My best friend’s dog, Sunny, is who I based Costello on simply because Sunny himself is such a character. I’m always in stitches around that dog! If anyone says Costello isn’t realistic, I’d like to introduce them to Sunny. He’ll be humping her legs and grinning mischievously in minutes!

MBA&M: What is your inspiration to use animals and mystery in your stories?

I love animals and am around them all the time. In my job as a reporter, I implemented a pet of the week column and took a lot of pride in being a real fluff reporter, spotlighting animal rescue efforts in our community. There are a lot of people who love pets, but the problem of homeless animals and neglected or abused animals is very widespread. Any chance I get to promote responsible pet ownership, I take it. That aside, I think animals can be a great healing factor for fictional characters and can help progress the humans’ development throughout a story, if used correctly. As for mystery, who doesn’t enjoy a good mystery?

MBA&M:  Give us one word to describe your characters in “On The Scent”…..

Hannah Dawson: Worried

Zachary Collins: Hot

The Psychic Detective: Awesome

MBA&M: What is your all-time favorite name for a dog and a cat?

I think Kitty Purry (Katie Perry’s cat’s name) is genius.

I like ironic names for dogs. For example, my brother had a tiny Chihuahua he named Rambo.

MBA&M: Who is one of your female role models, be it real of fiction? Why?

I’m not shy about stating this. I love Lois Lane. When I was a little girl, I had three older brothers, no sisters, and my mother passed away when I was 12. I was surrounded by overbearing men. I remember watching “Superman: The Movie” and later “Lois and Clark: The Real Adventures of Superman” and being amazed a woman could match wits with men like that. She’s tough, independent, and, duh, Superman is her boyfriend. I’d love to be her!

MBA&M: If you were a character in one of your novels, who would you be and why?

I’d be Hannah in “On the Scent.” She’s got money, pets, and a sexy P.I. looking after her. Enough said.

MBA&M: Which author would you have write your story with flair but a bit of mystery?

Oooh. Tough question. Gonna have to go with Nora Roberts on that one.

MBA&M: And last but not least, what can readers expect to see from you next, if you can reveal this information of course?

The second book in this series should be out around September/October — I don’t yet have a release date. Alexandra King, the psychic medium who helps Zach in “On the Scent” finds herself in the middle of a serial killer mystery while trying to reunite Zach with his brother, Dylan. It has ghosts, suspense, and, yes, Abbott and Costello make an appearance in this book, too.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to connect with you and where they may purchase “On the Scent”?

My book is currently available on Amazon.com, both in the U.S. and the U.K., as well as iTunes and Google Play. They can learn more about my book and find buy links at my website, www.AngelaCampbellOnline.com, and connect with me on Twitter @angelacampbel.

REVIEW AND SPOTLIGHT~ NALAH AND THE PINK TIGER by Anne Sawyer-Aitch….

IT IS OUR PLEASURE TO SPOTLIGHT…..

Pump-Up-Your-Book

~CHILDREN’S BOOK AUTHOR~

NALAH AND THE PINK TIGER

BY

ANNE SAWYER-AITCH

Nalah and the Pink Tiger

ABOUT NALAH AND THE PINK TIGER

Nalah and the Pink Tiger is a picture book by Anne Sawyer-Aitch. She drew inspiration for this story from her lively little niece, who lives so intensely in her imagination that grown-ups around her view her as a troublemaker. Things come to a head when – in addition to all the exotic animals that Nalah has “placed” in the house – a pink tiger “follows” her home from the zoo and creates havoc. The story also celebrates the joyful explosiveness of a child’s imagination. To illustrate the book, Anne developed a style which she calls illuminated iIllustration, featuring multiple layers and backlighting that create vibrant, textured pages.

MY THOUGHTS:

NALAH AND THE PINK TIGER by Anne Sawyer-Aitch is a cute, whimsical children’s picture book. Nalah has a very delightful and vivid imagination, which makes some call her a “troublemaker”,especially when a “pink” tiger follows her home from the Zoo. You see Nalah loves animals. What a wonderful way to encourage children’s imaginations. A perfect book for 3-4 year olds, with beautiful illustrations. Well written, even us older children can not help but enjoy Nalah’s antics and her imagination. I would highly recommend this title to grandparents, and parents alike to read to their little ones. Received for an honest review from the author.

My Rescue Story, by Jill Shalvis…

At any point, on any day in the Shalvis abode, there are animals.  All of them rescued, always.  It’s become somewhat of a family tradition, rescuing animals in need, and we’ve found that not only is it a nice thing to do, we get a really great pet out of the deal.

A couple of years ago, our house was fairly full.  Okay, so it was straining at the wall joints.  We had Ashes — our rescue Border Collie/Australian Blue Heeler.  Sadie – our cat who thinks she’s a dog.  Micky – a field mouse rescued from the high school science lab.  And four teenage girls.

Actually, it wasn’t a house.  It was a zoo.

But a year before we’d lost Izzie, our beloved brown lab.  And we missed having two dogs.  Yes, we’re crazy.  Anyway, on that fated day I’m about to tell you about, Alpha Man (my husband) had heard about a yellow lab puppy who needed rescue.

No.  No way.  I was adamant.  I had enough on my plate.  But Alpha Man just wanted to go make sure the lab was okay.

So we left the mountain…

My Rescue Story_Photo 1

And drove…

My Rescue Story_Photo 2

And drove…

My Rescue Story_Photo 3

We were following the sketch directions from a guy who knew a guy who had told us about a woman who lived out in the middle of nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE, and she rescues animals.

The landscape was like something out of a Criminal Minds episode, so we were wary at first.  We had no idea what we were going to find.  A box of puppies, or a meth lab … nothing would have surprised me.  I was a little worried because the kids were with us, but it turned out the place was fifty acres of love.

Any animal in need is welcome.

My Rescue Story_Photo 4

Even the funny looking ones…

 My Rescue Story_Photo 5

The woman had goats, horses, turtles, geese, snakes, angry chickens … you name it and she had it.  She was rehabbing it, doctoring it, loving it … whatever the animal needed.

We’d gone because of the rumor of the puppies, the yellow labs.  And she did have two puppies.  She’d rescued them out of a horrible situation.

My Rescue Story_Photo 6

But the yellow lab wasn’t the one who stole our hearts.  Nope, it was her little baby brother.  The runt.

My Rescue Story_Photo 7

He was filthy and living in a hovel. And the minute he saw us, he came alive. Wriggling, happy, loving. All you had to do was touch him and he writhed in joy and dropped to the floor for a belly rub.

My Rescue Story_Photo 8

And once he was picked up by the teenagers and loved up by them, he didn’t want to get down.  I tried.  I tried hard.  But the thing had wriggled his way right into my heart.  I remember looking at Alpha Man, laughing and crying at the same time.

“You didn’t want another dog,” he reminded me.

I told him to zip it.  We were taking this dog and that was that.  Besides, there was the little matter of him being in my arms and refusing to be put down.

So we never put him down again.  Meet Frat Boy…

Why Dogs Make Great Sidekicks, by Jill Shalvis…

Now that you know a little bit about my rescue story, I want to share with you some of the inspiration for my Animal Magnetism series.  One of the fun things about writing this series is developing complex and lovable characters… that just happen to be adorable dogs!  Here’s why dogs make great sidekicks…

1. Because when you’re on the mountain trail and you come across an angry mama bear and her baby cubs, your dog will run like hell.  This will warn you to run like hell as well.  Just be careful because if your dog is like my dog, he will throw you under the bus (or in this case bear) to get home before you do.

2. Because when all the cookies are gone you can totally blame your cookie loving dog.  No one has to know that you ate all the cookies yourself.  And your dog can give you dirty looks for blaming him but he can’t actually talk and dispute your story.  Solid alibi.

3. Because if you’ve eaten in a way that disagrees with your stomach, there are never any worries.  Your dog will always, ALWAYS, out stink you.  And if he doesn’t, you can still point the finger at him.  Again, he can’t talk and dispute your story.

4. Dogs are not just great sidekicks but they also make great a really great wingman.  If you’re single, you can totally put your dog to work at charming the person you’re interested in.  Just make sure that person likes dog drool and dog hair all over everything first.

5. There is never a need for a pillow or extra blanket because your dog will always be willing to get into bed with you and share body heat.  Always.  Just be forewarned.  Being a great sidekick is not the same thing as a good bed partner.  They have a habit of being a total bed hog.

Thanks everyone and please spread the word!

Personally… My daughter,WendyK, and grandchildren, about five years ago, this month, rescued a baby kitten, only about a week old. Solid black, his siblings and mother was killed by a dog. I bottled fed him and must say bottle feeding a baby kitten is the seem as feeding an infant, every two hours. Oh,I forgot to mention my daughter likes to say “he went to the beach a she and came back a he”. Oh but he is a mean one,not a lap cat, but, very lovable. He does not know he is a cat, sometimes he actually growls,he can only drink water out of a cup,or he can but does not want too,and loves only “Fancy Feast” cat food. Yes, he is a little spoiled and very intelligent.

We love him,oh,yes he is a flirt also!

I would recommend adopting an animal…..
