MBA&M: What was the inspiration behind writing HALF MOON HILL?

TONI: HALF MOON HILL came to me very naturally as the next logical book for the Destiny series.  Both Anna and Duke had been introduced to readers in earlier stories, and Duke in particular has been very popular with readers – I’ve gotten numerous requests to give him his own story and enjoyed doing so.

MBA&M: What was the allure of Ohio, and a bed and breakfast ,for the setting, of HALF MOON HILL?

TONI: Well, the setting of Ohio was established a number of years ago when the Destiny series began, but that choice was simply about it being an area I’m personally familiar with and a place that would feel like “anytown, USA.”  I wanted readers to be able to easily relate to the place and for it to be a place that would feel as if it could be around any corner or bend in the road.  As for the bed and breakfast, that aspect of the story was established in a previous book, too, when Anna bought the old Victorian house on Half Moon Hill with plans to turn it into a B&B. I loved the idea of letting a B&B help the city girl get better entrenched in small town life, and it turned out to be the perfect place for her story with Duke to unfold.

MBA&M: An ex-biker gang member, and a lady with a troubled past, what was your inspiration behind these two characters? Do they remind you of anyone, or did they appear out of nowhere?

TONI: Again, both characters appeared in earlier books – Duke has been around since Book 3, WHISPER FALLS.  So their personalities and histories were established long before I wrote HALF MOON HILL.  But no, I don’t create characters based on real people – I like to think they develop organically along with the rest of the writing.

MBA&M: We see there are, with HALF MOON HILL, six titles in the DESTINY series, tell us a little background about this series, rather you feel the reader should start at the beginning or can they be read out of sequence?

TONI: All the books in the Destiny series can be read on their own without having read the rest.  But it’s probably more fun for readers who start at the beginning as characters from previous books do appear in later books and in some cases their stories continue.  I also personally think readers will feel a stronger connection to Anna if they know her entire history, which begins in Book 2, SUGAR CREEK.  As for background, when I wrote the first book in the series, ONE RECKLESS SUMMER, I didn’t know it was going to be the start of a series.  When Avon asked me to write a series around this time, I was happy to have ONE RECKLESS SUMMER and the quaint town of Destiny as a jumping off point and it’s been amazingly fun to expand upon what I started in that first book.  It’s also been incredibly gratifying to see how readers have come to love the series.

MBA&M: Who was your favorite character to write about of far out of all the characters in the DESTINY series?

TONI: Oh wow, I really can’t choose.  I love them all and each characters I’m writing about at any particular time is my favorite at that moment.  ; )

MBA&M: How many books do you see being in this series and whose story is next?

TONI: After HALF MOON HILL, I’m changing things up a bit and expanding a bit further.  My editor and I have been calling this expansion “beyond Destiny” as readers will see some familiar characters from the books but in a new setting, a beach town called CORAL COVE.  I’m excited to be going someplace new with my books, but I also like the fact that this is another natural expansion from previous books.  The heroine of CORAL COVE is Christy Knight, who readers met in WILLOW SPRINGS and again in HALF MOON HILL.

MBA&M: What is your favorite past time and who do you most enjoy spending time with?

TONI: I love spending time with friends and am fortunate to have a lot of good ones!  As for a pastime, I love spending time outdoors, no matter what I’m doing – I write a lot outdoors, read outdoors, have a convertible I love to drive, and I love to swim and be in the sun, etc.  I’m also big into crafts.  I used to make quilts by hand, but these days I’m more into painting birdhouses and also am just starting to paint on canvas.

Fun thingy: I hope anyway…..

When you hear these words, what comes to mind or which is your favorite:

Football:  Bengals

Baseball:  Reds

Hockey:  Violent ; )

Basketball:  Kentucky Wildcats!

Racing:  Recently developed a love for dirt track racing and go to local dirt tracks throughout the summer months.

Family, Friends or Computer?  Friends

Chocolate, Vanilla or Strawberry?  Like ‘em all!

Chicken, Beef or Seafood?  Chicken

In hopes of escaping her troubled past, Anna Romo is determined to carve out a place for herself when she returns to the small town of Destiny. She’s purchased the old Victorian house on the hill and hopes opening a bed & breakfast will help her feel at home again in Destiny.

Duke Dawson, a rugged loner and ex-biker gang member, is as much a fish out of water in Destiny as Anna. Taking to the woods Duke chooses to seclude himself after a life-altering accident not only scars his face, but his mind as well. Duke’s plan of solitude is working out just fine until Anna accidentally stumbles into his life.

She’s willing to keep Duke’s solitary living arrangement to herself if he agrees to help with some of the renovations on her house. The tasks seem simple enough, but soon a fierce and unavoidable romance brews. Anna and Duke both give in completely to the animalistic passion that draws them closer. Is this lust or a love deeper than they both could have ever fathomed?

But when Jeremy Sheridan, the dreamy hometown war hero, returns to Destiny in a blaze of glory, he sets his sights on Anna. Suddenly, she’s torn between the outgoing, charming Jeremy and the reserved, complex Duke. But will Duke ever truly love her the way she loves him? Will Anna know who to choose? Or has Destiny already chosen for her?
