Famously Engaged – Robyn Thomas

Most people would draw the line at working 24/7 for years on end. Jake Olsen, my hero in Famously Engaged, is an exception. Never having a moment to himself is a side effect of the phenomenal success he has achieved with his band, Five Awesome Emperors. For the past eight years he’s pushed himself day and night: writing, recording, performing, travelling, sweet talking the media and cultivating a reputation as a player.

He has a nagging suspicion that he’s not happy, but he doesn’t have time to dwell on it. The cost of fame was always going to be high, he knew that going in, and there’s little point in begrudging the limitations of the life he has chosen. Normality is a luxury he can’t afford and so is downtime. Relationships are another thing he’s forsaken, and although he owns a number of houses, he doesn’t have a place to call home. In place of the basic elements that normally make up a person’s life he has fame, wealth and critical acclaim.

Stepping out of the spotlight changes everything in an instant and makes him question the way he has been living. Is there anything that would tempt you to work around the clock and/or make the kind of sacrifices that Jake made?

Thank you for spending time with us and our readers today!!

Too bad Jake’s figured out just why her ex is so obsessed with her, and he’s afraid he’s not going to be able to give her up either.

Michael struggled to keep his look steady. He took a swallow of his near-beer, wishing it had the maximum alcohol content now that he was face-to-face with Jessica Croft. He set the mug down
precisely on the dampened ring on his cocktail napkin. “That’s an unusual hello.” He almost smiled.
“Sorry,” she said. “The martini stole my manners. I’m Jessica Croft—”
“You’re Sam’s sister?”
“Was,” Jessie said ruefully. “And for some reason, I think you knew that. I saw you at her memorial last night.”
And remembered me.
He reached out to shake her hand. “Michael Gillette.” He’d considered using a fake name, yet knew that it would further complicate things. Jessie was already associating with people who knew him by name. If he hoped to gain any credibility with her, he had to be honest about his identity—even if he lied about
everything else.
“How did you know Sam?”
He tipped his chin in Helena’s direction. “I was doing some security work for Helena and Ian a while back. I met Sam at Alden and Associates.”
“Security work?”
He nodded. “Been my career since grad school—most of it in the Secret Service.” He traced an invisible design on the tabletop with his fingers. It helped to keep him from staring at her. “I’m a security consultant now. When Sam needed some security advice, Helena referred her to me.”
“Do you have a card?” she asked.
He took a business card from the pocket of the overcoat draped across the stool beside him, and handed it to her. “I’m really sorry about Sam. She seemed like a nice girl.”
“Thanks.” Jessie examined his card and put it in her purse.
Michael imagined the hell that would break loose if Croft somehow found it there.

The inspiration for the Madewood series evolved from two places. The Madewood name was taken from a restaurant that one of my dear blogger friends used to work at. The idea for four chefs developed when another friend told me about a food and wine show she attended and one of the vendors was a company comprised of four tatted-up male chefs. Put them both together and throw in a little imagination and thus the Madewood series and four brothers, Jack, Neil, Finn and Cole, came to be.

So why did I decide to write a series about food and the four brothers who make a living creating scrumptious dishes? Food is alluring. It evokes pleasurable tastes and smells that can spark the same reactions as if you were engaging in sex—weak knees, eyes rolling in the back of your head, or moaning and groaning.  A Foodgasm!

A good meal can give you a sense of satisfaction that can rival the best sex of your life.  But you’ll have to ask Jack and Sterling from Recipe for Satisfaction, which was better, the sex or the chocolate mousse?

But in the interest of full disclosure, I wrote a foodie series because I just love food. All my husband has to do is bribe me with a good meal and he can have anything he wants. Hmmm… I guess in our case food is a form of foreplay J

“Our thoughts” on this title!

Thank you for spending time with us and our guest! Please remember to spread the word!

A Holiday Greeting and Momentous Announcement from Victoria Vane:

When I first conceived A Wild Night’s Bride, a Georgian set, Hangover-inspired romantic comedy, I had no idea that one devilish secondary character would spawn an entire series, but Ludovic, Viscount DeVere, proved to be a dream come true. This larger than life character has captured the hearts of so many fans who have begged for more DeVere. In response to these requests, I have not only decided to continue the series, but have recently commissioned an amazing artist to render gorgeously detailed full color illustrations for my DeVere stories! My goal is to offer a wonderfully enhanced reading experience to fans of my series.

The first book to be illustrated (and just in time for all those glorious full color and graphics capable Christmas e-readers), is Devil in the Making, a riotous Georgian romp in the tradition of Fielding’s Tom Jones and a prequel to the Devil DeVere series.

The Illustrated Edition will feature a gorgeous depiction of the key scene in every chapter. If this experiment is successful, I will be illustrating the entire DeVere series (old and new) over the next 12-18 months. As a holiday greeting, I am attaching a sample of the absolutely stunning photorealistic artwork that will grace the new book cover as well as the inside pages! Devil in the Making: The Illustrated Edition will be available in e-book early December 2012. A print anthology will follow later in 2013. Now, without further ado…. Here is how it all began….

Devil in the Making: A Devilish Vignette by Victoria Vane

Every devil has a beginning… A rebellious young nobleman’s prank with the king’s lion goes comically awry, leading to a startling chain of events.

“But I know that look, DeVere, and it always bodes ill.”
“Come now, Ned,” DeVere cajoled. “With only weeks until matriculation, we may never get another chance to serve up some revenge on ole’ Trasker.”
“What have you in mind?” Simon asked.
“Since our dear pedagogue is so fond of bear-leading, why not procure one for him?”
Ned looked stunned. “You wish to buy a bear?”
“Of course not,” DeVere answered.
“Thank God,” Ned replied with a sigh of relief.
“I only wish to borrow one.”
“A bear?” Simon repeated.
“Yes. It can be a small one. As to age, size, or gender. I am not particular.”
“And how do you propose to find one?” Ned asked warily.
DeVere replied with a look of pure devilment. “I propose a midnight foray to the Royal Menagerie.” (end excerpt)

Warmest holiday greetings,

Victoria Vane

And now a quick interview with Victoria Vane….

Victoria, where did the idea for illustrations come from?

Illustrations within e-books,what a novel idea…

Victoria: Thank so much for asking, April. The idea occurred to me after reading so many reviews of my books that remarked upon how “vivid” my stories are. As a person who believes in playing to my strengths, I began to wonder how I might take this a step further. After reading so much about the new generation of full color and graphics capable e-readers, it seemed a no-brainer to take my stories into the “visual realm. Thus, the illustration idea was born.
MBA&M: How hard is it to find an illustrator? Where did you find your resources for the illustrations?
Victoria: At first, I really didn’t know where or how to begin. My immediate thought was to hire a cover artist and use illustrations with photo manipulation, but that concept proved far too limiting given that my work to date has been set exclusively in the Georgian era. It’s very difficult to find appropriate stock photos even for my book covers, so then I wondered about hiring a digital artist who could draw/paint whatever I needed with the kind of look I desired. While this is not an inexpensive endeavor, I felt very strongly about offering my fans this visually enhanced reading experience, so I bit the bullet and began advertising for an artist. After looking at dozens of portfolios I found someone with both the intuition and the talent to create EXACTLY what I wanted.  It has been a match made in heaven!
MBA&M: What do you hope your readers will come away with by buying your books with illustrations within?

Victoria: I want them to be mesmerized and stunned by the realism and to come begging for more! LOL!

MBA&M: Thank you so much for allowing MBA&M and our readers along on your grand adventure!
