Synopsis

Clothing optional… Janie McAlister should have known better than to trust her quirky sister’s taste in resorts. Instead of thatched-roof huts and designer pools overlooking the ocean, she’s landed at the one seventies throwback in the Riviera Maya with an open door nudity policy. No way is she going à la natural in public. And she’s sure not entertaining the advances of the bold young man with the delicious body daring her to do exactly that…and so much more. Well, hello, Ms. McAlister… Zade Painel’s a man on a mission—grab some much needed R&R at Gypsy Cove, and figure out how to reclaim his boudoir photography business. He never thought the answer would come in the form of a curvy, forty-year-old redhead and an accidental knee to the ‘nads, but Janie proves to be a force of nature with a penchant for fixing things. She’s also sexy as hell. One way or another, he’s going to help her see just that. And if he plays his cards right, it’ll be a heavenly hands-on approach that lasts way past seven days in paradise.

Excerpt

Told in Janie’s Point of View:

Janie froze. Every muscle locked up and her breath hitched. The only thing actively working was her heart, which after its initial stumble, had taken off at a gallop.

“…make damned sure the only thing you can do is feel.”

So tempting. So terribly tempting.

The shadows around him accented the sharp angles of his jaw and nose, and his voice dropped to a grumble. “Talk to me, Janie.”

And tell him what? That she wanted what he wanted as bad as he did, but she was terrified to give the green light? That she wasn’t sure she could take the disappointment in his eyes if things got serious and he saw what a quality sundress could hide? “What do you want to know?”

“Tell me what you want.”

Touch. Passion. Contact. Skin. It all rushed in at once, clogging her throat and seizing her thoughts.

“One word.” His hand tightened on his lap, not so subtly gripping what looked to be a powerful erection. “One thing at a time.”

She swallowed and tried to catch her breath. The request leapt to her tongue, ready for launch. Damn it to hell, she was a living, breathing human, not some freakish deviant. Why couldn’t she say what she wanted? Own it. It was one night. One chance she may never get again. “A kiss.”

He stared at her. Quiet.

Her lungs burned, the air so thick she could barely breathe.

He stood and padded to her side of the bed.

With every step, her heartbeat surged a notch. Her thighs pressed so tight together it was a wonder the bed didn’t shake.

He unhooked his watch. One of those chunky ones her son had begged her for two Christmas’ ago.  Somehow the silver looked right on Zade. Manly. Effortless and stylish without being overblown.

It clunked against the nightstand as he sat it aside.

He’d rolled his sleeves up, tanned skin and prominent veins peeking from beneath the crisp blue fabric. The top two buttons of his shirt were open, leaving his neck on display. And his eyes, bright blue and bold as the hottest flame, framed by his loose blond bangs.

He scanned her body stretched out on the bed, put a knee to the mattress, and straddled her thighs. Rooting his hands on either side of her head, he held his body over hers, yet not touching. “A kiss.” He dipped closer. Slow, inhaling deep. “Want to point out, you didn’t put any restrictions on your request.”

He traced the line of her lips with his own, close enough to tickle and tease, but not nearly enough to give her what she craved. “You didn’t say how…” His warm breath fluttered against her face. “…or where.” He licked her lower lip and lifted his gaze to hers. “I’ll take that to mean I get to taste all of you.”

Meet the Author

Rhenna Morgan writes for the same reason she reads—to escape reality. Yes, her life rocks—two beautiful little girls, a great husband, a steady job, and the kind of friends that would take you out back if you hurt her. But, like most women, she’s got obligations stacked tight from dusk to dawn. So, when the world gets her down, she slips into something…less realistic. Romance is a must. So is a steamy romp (or four). Nothing thrills her more than the fantasy of new, exciting worlds, strong, intuitive men, and the sigh of, “Oh if only that could happen to me.” So, if you’re picking up one of her books, expect portals into alternate realms and men who’ll fight to keep the women they want. Romantic escape for the women who need it.

Genre: Historical Romance (Sweet)
Release Date: April 9, 2015

Come join the party at the Petticoat Ball!

Stubborn, mule-headed, independent woman!

She’d take that as a compliment…

Maggie Dalton has no need for a man in her life. Widowed more than ten years, she’s built a successful business and managed quite well on her own in the bustling town of Baker City, Oregon. Aggravated by her inability to block thoughts of the handsome lumber mill owner from her mind, she renews her determination to resist his attempts at friendship.

Full of Scottish charm and mischief, Ian MacGregor could claim any available woman in Baker City as his own, except the enchanting dress shop owner who continues to ignore him. Not one to give up on what he wants, Ian vows to win Maggie’s heart or leave the town he’s come to love.

Ian picked up one of the hot irons and burned his brand onto a board before setting it back in the fire. “Branding my wood. Not a single piece leaves the lumberyard until it bears my brand.”

Maggie leaned over to study the unusual brand. At the base, she could make out an “M” and a “G,” assumably for the name MacGregor. The top of the brand proved to be a puzzle to her. Five curved lines protruded from a perfectly round circle. The circle sat atop a thin, straight line with a curved line on each side of it before it ran down to connect the letters.

“What is that thing?” Maggie pointed to the top of the brand.

Ian grinned and rubbed a callused thumb over the wood he’d just seared with the hot iron. “That is a thistle. It’s an important symbol to us Scots and I liked the idea of using it in my brand.”

“A thistle? Like the purple flowers that bloom out in the hills?” Maggie again observed the strange symbol.

“Exactly like that.”

“And you stamp that on every board?”

“I do. You’ll notice it is also on my horses, my cattle, and if I ever take a wife, I might just brand it on her beautiful backsi…”

“I get the idea, Mr. MacGregor.” Maggie interrupted before he said something she would have to pretend she found offensive.

About the Book:

A Highland Pearl 2A sweet romance blossoms amidst feuding and war. With her reputation at stake after being accused of practicing witchcraft and hated as a member of a rival clan, Maidie considers leaving Clan Munro and returning to the home of her birth in Clan Cameron. Fierce battles, a tragic encounter, and a handsome clan chief compel her to make crucial decisions in this haunting romance set in the16th century Highlands of Scotland.

Maidie is summoned to Fàrdach Castle of Easter Ross-shire to assist in caring for the wounded of Clan Munro after a battle with Clans MacKenzie and Cameron. She dreads the task since her husband, Kenneth Munro, was killed in an earlier battle. Maidie is a healer, taught by her mother, with the skills and knowledge needed to tend the wounds of Chief Andrew Dubh Munro who is seriously wounded.

People in the castle and those in the village of Drumainn turn against Maidie. Angus, the castle physician, resents her for taking his job in caring for the chief. She is hated by some, because she is a member of the enemy Clan Cameron and came to live in Ferindonald, the Munro lands, with her husband.

Maidie considers returning to the land of her birth in Clan Cameron with her young son, Sven, but falls in love with Andrew while caring for his wounds. Although her neighbors now call her a witch, she wishes to stay in Drumainn because of her love for the chief.

Against an effort to guard his hardened heart from another hurtful encounter with a woman, Andrew falls in love with the tender, caring healer, Maidie. He wants her to stay in Drumainn, but his enemies, the Camerons and MacKenzies, have other plans.

Book Excerpt:
A Highland Pearl 3Maidie rode behind the young warrior on a horse galloping toward the castle. She removed one hand from around his trim waist to pull her wrap closer against the biting wind then secured the kertch trying to fly from her head. The old Cameron scarf was the only one she could find before rushing out of the cottage when Tavish pounded on her door. She replaced her hand, trying not to mind his grimy clothes and gamey smell, and held her bag of precious herbs with the other. Tavish guided the horse between several tenant crofters coming and going from the castle.
The wind whistled through large birch and oak trees lining the road. Leaves of gold, red, yellow, and brown rustled in the wind then floated to the ground. Maidie enjoyed the walk to the castle this time of year, when a lass needed a midwife, but today she could not think about the beauty. She looked back at Sven, who rode behind Maighstir Tam, and held to a small leather bag filled with various implements she used in her work. A chill ran through her, not only from the wind, but also from the dread of seeing the terrible wounds of the injured.
They pulled to one side of a wide wooden bridge leading to the outer bailey of Fàrdach Castle to let a wagon pass. Tavish waved to the guard in the barbican as their party entered through the large, steel-studded oak gates, under the portcullis, and into the outer bailey. The bailey teemed with the life of humans and animals. Their various buildings, dwellings, and shelters lined the curtain wall.
Tavish steered his horse dodging roughly dressed people, went through a second gate in the curtain wall, then across a bridged moat to the quieter inner yard. He waved to a guard on the rampart, and guided his horse to the door of the castle’s keep. Stable boys rushed to take the reins of both horses. Tavish quickly dismounted, then helped Maidie to the ground. She held her bag with a firm grip. He then assisted Sven and Tam from their horse. Large green eyes in the ashen face of her wee son searched hers. She patted his small hand and rubbed his mass of red hair. He tried to smile, giving her a small gift of comfort.
“All will be well, Sven,” she said to reassure him. Not since watching his father die from wounds he received in a battle with Clans MacKenzie and Cameron had she seen such fear in her son’s eyes.
“I dinna wish to go inside, Mam.” The boy drew back from her touch.
“You may stay out here then. Just dinna leave the bailey.” Maidie took Sven’s bag then handed both to Tavish. She cupped the small boy’s chin in her fingers and kissed the lined forehead. “Stay close. Mayhap there are other children close by.”
“Yes, Mam. I will.” His half-smile gave her a sense of relief.
“Just stay close.” Maidie turned and walked toward Tavish who held the heavy wooden door open. Tam followed as they entered the great hall of the keep.
Tavish closed the door with a thud. Maidie stood for a moment so her eyes could adjust to the dimness. Light rays from the small upper windows glinted off the weapons, armor, and heraldry displayed on the stone walls. Lifeless eyes in the heads of boar with long tusks and red stags with huge racks of antlers stared at her from above the weapons.
Although a large fireplace with a glowing fire stood on each of the four walls, the air felt cold and damp. The smell of dirt, blood, human waste, and unwashed bodies blended together into a noxious odor causing a revolt in her stomach. She swallowed a rush of nausea with a gulp. Wounded warriors lying atop rush pallets lined the floor. A servant rushed to the maighstir, pulling him toward a blood-soaked pallet where an unconscious man lay.

MY THOUGHTS:

A HIGHLAND PEARL by Brenda B. Taylor is an exciting Scottish Historical Romance set in 16th century Scotland. #1 in the “Highland Treasure” series. What a beginning! Fast paced, action packed romance from the Highlands of Scotland, fictional facts weaved with some actual facts as well. Ms. Taylor did an amazing job of weaving romance, historical facts, and real life events into an amazing Scottish romance.

A romance blooms amidst chaos, clan rivalry, and a feuding war between clans.

Meet, Maidie of Clan Munro, who is a healer, and widow, of  Kenneth Munro, who was killed in a battle between Clans MacKenzie and Cameron. She is called to the Castle Drumainn, for her skills to aid the seriously wounded, Chief Andrew Dubh Munro. With her small son, Sven, she journeys to Castle Drumainn.

Thus begans a turbulent relationship between Andrew and Maidie. Maidie finds resentment and hatred, in the village. Where the castle physician, Angus, is the cause of some, others dislike who she is and what she represents, a healer. Some call her witch. Others find her skills amazing, and the clan leader Andrew finds her amazing and a love growing between them. Thus begins their journey to find love and happiness amidst turmoil, danger and clan rivalry.

I loved the way the author brought, Andrew and Maidie together, their way of finding their own happiness, and their battle with their growing passion and romance. An amazing tale of romance and love. A sweet Highland Romance, that will have readers turning pages and holding their breathe in awe. Simply amazing! I can’t wait for the next installment in the “Highland Treasures” series. Well done!!  Highly recommended to Scottish Romance readers who enjoy an amazing Highland Romance.

 Excerpt

“Is that
really how you say thanks? By trying to cut me open?”  He kept his voice low and he made sure to
keep them in the shadows. The last thing he wanted was some do-gooder human
coming around.
            Her
breath panted out as she heaved in his hold. He didn’t let her go.
“I…I
didn’t realize it was you.”
            Right.
He could actually buy that. Seeing as how she kept having werewolves stalk her,
she truly might have thought someone else was after her.
            “It’s
me,” he told her grimly. “You ran from me.
            He
could see every beautiful detail of her face, even in the darkness. He had
perfect vision—perfectly enhanced vision.
There was no missing the fear in her expression. He didn’t like Chloe’s
fear.  Even when he was pissed at her,
Connor didn’t want her to be afraid.
            “You
know I won’t hurt you,” he said, his voice a low rasp.
            “Then
let me go.”
            If
only things were that simple.  “I can’t.”
            Her
lips trembled.  Her lips were the first
thing he’d noticed about her—they were full and red. The kind of lips that
instantly made him think of sex.  Then
he’d gotten caught in her eyes. No one should have eyes that blue.  Maybe it was because her hair was so dark, a
perfect black, and, in contrast to that darkness, her eyes appeared to be such
a bright, electric blue.
            Her
face was heart-shaped, her cheekbones almost ridiculously high. She had a small
nose and a slightly pointed chin.  Her
skin was pale, probably because the Para Unit had been keeping her in various stages
of isolation and she hadn’t exactly been free to roam in the outside world and
soak up a bit of sunshine.
            But
that was what happened when you killed a man…and when you rose from the dead. You get monitored by the Para Unit.
Chloe
Quick wasn’t supposed to be in front of him. She’d died a few weeks ago.  Not some near-death BS, either.  She’d been knifed in the heart. She’d died.
            Then
she’d come back, thanks to the dark wish of a djinn.  Only now, the Para Unit didn’t exactly know what Chloe was.
            “I
warned you not to escape,” he told her. The other werewolf had been right. Her
scent was damn near intoxicating, and if he’d just been a werewolf, he probably
would have been nearly mindless in his desire to claim her.
            But
he wasn’t just a wolf, and that was why Eric Pate had given him guard duty with
Chloe. Because I’m supposed to be able to
control my baser impulses.
But if that were truly the case, would he be
holding her so carefully, his fingers sliding over her wrists, his body pushing
ever closer to hers?
