About Disenchanted:
A dark curse, a forbidden love.

Descended from a powerful Wethersfield witch, her spellcasting gift is awkwardly emerging, but that’s the least of her worries. The boy she’s forbidden to fall for, a descendant of the man who condemned her ancestor to hang, carries a dark secret that could destroy them both unless Sophie learns how to tap into the mysterious power of her diamond bloodcharm.
Suspenseful, dark, romantic, and brimming with old magic, Disenchanted captures the intrigue of New England’s witchlore.

Read an Excerpt:
I sat, soaking wet, shaking from the adrenaline. Whoever he was, he rescued me from the would-be thief who bore the symbol of the Leos, a breath-saving nickname I gave Judge Mather’s Law Enforcement Organization. I strained to see, but the rain drops clinging to my long eyelashes blurred my vision. I wiped them away as my heart settled to an even pace.
With his back to me, he watched the thief disappear into the stormy night. He ran his hands through his thick, wavy, wet hair. His broad shoulders relaxed before he turned to offer me assistance. He extended his long arm to help me to my feet. I hesitated for a second, unsure of him, but as he reached for me, our fingers brushed together. A shock of electricity bolted through my hand. I froze as I caught the surprised reaction on his face, telling me he felt it, too. His fingers clasped firmly around mine and, with no effort, he pulled me to my feet. Unsteady, I pressed my hands against his firm muscled chest that showed through the drenched white shirt. A dizzy, swirly sensation swept through my head as if I were on a merry-go-round spinning around at one hundred miles per hour.
He had to be six feet tall.
“Are you okay?” he asked in a smooth British accent. His deep voice vibrated with tension, sending warm chills inside me.
I balanced myself and brushed my wet hair behind my ears, swallowing hard. A British accent that could make a girl melt if the girl didn’t have alarm bells going off in her head. There were no Brits currently living in our small part of Wethersfield, which meant he had to be one of them. My wide eyes flitted around, looking for a clue to make sense of why the statuesque Mather boy with his soaking wet shirt and black tailored pants left the comfort of his father’s manor house to brave the storm.
He stepped closer, breaching the already slim gap between us and forcing my eyes up. The streetlight illuminated his handsome features. His ivory complexion, dappled with raindrops and a shadow of thick stubble, revealed a hint of blush as if it were wintertime and the cold air had plucked at his cheeks.
I followed the perfect straight line of his nose to his brooding, dark eyes full of mystery. His eyes wandered over the details of my face and settled on my own, waiting for me to reply. A warm, wet breeze swirled up from behind him and wrapped his alluring scent around me; clean, floral and woodsy and thoroughly masculine. I inhaled again and again, unable to exhale. With all the plants and flowers I had smelled in my lifetime, he smelled better than any, alone or in combination. I wavered slightly, side to side, feeling dazed. I gulped a mouthful of air, trying not to breathe him in. What was wrong with me? I shook myself out of the stupor.
“Did you know that man?” he asked.
“Did you?” I said in an accusatory tone, but at that moment, I didn’t care about the attacker.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He drew back like I was crazy for suggesting anything.
He was the enemy. Say something, I thought. “What…what are you doing out here anyway?”
He furrowed his eyebrows inward. “Saving you, obviously.”
I threw my hands on my hips, shocked by the irony. A Mather helping a Greensmith? Hell was freezing over somewhere beneath our feet and every kind of farm animal was sprouting wings to fly. “That’s impossible.”
“And why is that?”
“Because…because you’re a Mather,” I said, not meaning to sound disgusted, but I struggled to contain my feelings. Fact was, the Mathers had Greensmith blood on their hands, as well as my coven’s blood. Through Wethersfield’s history, they were known as witch-hunters and with each generation, they changed only to appear more politically correct, but their intentions remained unchanged.

Firestorm Forever

Firestorm Forever, A Dragonfire Novel and paranormal romance by Deborah CookeThis flame will burn for all time…

Three key firestorms mark the culmination of the Dragon’s Tail Wars, pitting the dragon shifters known as the Pyr against the evil Slayers. The Slayers have struck a blow against mankind, bringing a pestilence from the ancient world, which is spreading like wildfire. Sloane Forbes, the Apothecary of the Pyr, knows it is his duty to find the cure, but the solution is elusive, his beautiful neighbor is distracting, and time is running out.

In moving to a remote farm in the California hills, Samantha Wilcox has left her demanding career behind by choice and on principle. It’s too painful to remember her own failures as both mother and physician, so she’s determined to start fresh. She’s going to live differently, following her instincts and savoring life’s pleasures—like the hot sex with no commitment offered by her mysterious neighbor. Sloane Forbes is no more an herb farmer than she is a tarot card reader, but Samantha is determined to keep their illusions intact—at least until she discovers that Sloane’s one of the Pyr, the dragon shifters responsible for the epidemic that stole her son’s life. As Slayers and Pyr gather for the final battle, can Samantha and Sloane work together to save the world and build themselves—and their respective kinds—a future?

MBA&M: Tell our readers a little about you? Your likes and dislikes?

RC:I’ve been writing since I was sixteen, but I didn’t get my first book published until ten years ago. Since then, I’ve published over fifty books collectively (some are now out of print). There have been parts of this journey I’ve adored and parts I’ve abhorred, but it’s a journey I would take again in a heartbeat. The rest, the boring stuff, (like my bio and some of my quirks) can be found on my website at

MBA&M: What made you decide to write the genre you write? Why?

RC: I don’t just write in one genre because I like to challenge myself. I get bored easily which is why I usually have four books going at one time. Right now, I write paranormal romance, sci-fi/paranormal romance, romantic suspense, and mainstream fiction.

MBA&M: In your own words tell our readers a little about “Waking Up Immortal”?

RC: Waking Up Immortal is the first book in the Universal Security series with an immortal heroine and a half-man/half-machine hero. Together, they battle her father, his brother, and travel the galaxy searching for some place to call home eventually.

Waking Up Immortal is the catalyst for their story beginning with the introduction of Chloe’s (the heroine) father who is as evil as she is good and wants something from her she can’t give. The only thing standing between her and certain torture is Kier (the hero). The warden of an intergalactic prison where Chloe’s father is being held, Kier ends up becoming her bodyguard and along the way, they somehow manage to stumble into a relationship that neither one of them really understands.

MBA&M:  What is on the horizon for you?

RC: I have several series in the works, including Universal Security. In 2013, I hope to complete at least two of those series as well as write a few standalone titles.

MBA&M: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

RC: I still see myself writing, enjoying life, and coloring my hair to keep the grays from showing!

MBA&M:  What advice do you have for those who’d like to write but don’t know where to start?

RC: I’m actually starting to focus on new writers on my blog so this is a great question for me.

My first piece of advice is to understand that knowing how to write a story and writing a story are two totally different things. You can’t expect to write a great novel without some knowledge of the process. So don’t just type your story and send it out; educate yourself. Take writing classes. Follow your favorite authors on social media. Read, read, read. And practice just as much.

MBA&M:  If you could be any person/character in history (real or fictional) who would you be and why?

RC: Lois Lane. She’s smart, funny, capable, and gets to fly with Superman. If those aren’t good enough reasons, she falls in love with Clark Kent who, in the last two television adaptations, is a man well worth falling for. That’s my idea of a happy ending.

MBA&M:  If you could look into the future and see things what would you hope would be the biggest change in our world?

RC: I’d love for us to one day to actually be a united nation. We’re not all going to agree on everything, but I would hope that we could reach a compromise that enables all of us to live peacefully with one another.

MBA&M: What’s your favorite movie? Why?

RC: This is a tough one, but I’d have to say my all-time favorite is Shining Through with Michael Douglas, Melanie Griffith, Liam Neeson, and Joely Richardson. The story is both heart-wrenching and beautiful. This movie literally touches on every human emotion because it involves betrayal, love, loss, hope, struggle, determination, survival, and triumph. The movie came out in 1992, and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen it. Just absolutely perfect.

MBA&M: Where can our readers find you?

RC: I’m hard to miss nowadays. Here is the basic rundown:

I could die today, and it wouldn’t matter. I’d still wake up tomorrow. Some people might consider that a good thing, and the time I took my first bullet, well, I can’t say I complained when I woke up, but that’s the middle of the story.

At first I didn’t want this “gift” which led me to a long search for my father. I thought he could help me. Turns out my father was in prison, and I just happened to get on the bad side of his warden—a huge, cyborg type of guy who could body double for Sylvester Stallone. He didn’t want me to see my father, and he was a pretty big obstacle for me to overcome.

So here I am trying to convince this guy, Kier, to let me see my father when all hell breaks loose. Then I suddenly learn I really don’t want to see dear old Dad after all. My life isn’t in danger, but how I spend the rest of my immortal existence is. The only thing standing between me and certain torture is Kier.

I don’t doubt he’ll protect me, but being so close to him makes me forget about things like safety. And the first time he kisses me turns into heat up the windows type of scene in the front seat of my car.

My immortal existence is safe with Kier. My heart is on shaky ground. How could I have fallen in love with a cyborg?
