BLOG TOUR~HATE CITY: BOOKER #3~JOHN W. MEFFORD…with #Review and #Rafflecopter Giveaway

After a life filled with destruction of others and himself, and his body ravaged by disease, there’s only one thing left for Javier Calero to do. Leave a legacy that will finally bring meaning to his life—and to the death of an American president more than fifty years ago.

The CEO of a green energy company is murdered behind his million-dollar estate, his neck nearly severed in two. Recruited to aid the widow and find a savage killer, Booker finds himself in the middle of a family train wreck.

Days later, thrust into the crossfire of a deadly sniper, Booker eludes sure death with the uncanny arrival of a young woman who only wants to save her father from harm. But she can’t do it without Booker’s help.

Joining forces with a Latin spitfire, Booker and his new sidekick, Maggie, embark on a twenty-four-hour quest to hunt down a killer determined to make an indelible mark on history—just like the one that struck down John F. Kennedy a half-century earlier, which launched a cascade of assassination investigations and theories.

BOOKER – Hate City weaves a historic tale of thrills and suspense, examining the justifications of the unjustifiable.

Booker: Streets of Mayhem (Booker #1)On a cool October afternoon, the majestic blue sky above Dallas is polluted with swells of gray smoke, carrying shattered memories of fifteen people, mostly children, who’ve just been killed by an explosion on a bus.

A white supremacist group claims responsibility, opening old wounds, turning neighbor against neighbor–fracturing the community.

A Southeast Dallas native, Booker T. Adams couldn’t be more invested in the city…in the people he’d served for the last seven years as a beat cop for the Dallas Police Department. Without warning, it becomes personal for Booker on so many levels. And as panic grips the city, he must decide how much he’s willing to sacrifice to end the chaos.

With his career called into question and his family in the crosshairs of one terrorist act after another, Booker invests every fiber of his being to protect a broken community, and to stop the brutal, senseless slayings.

If he fails, terrorism will reign in the city of Dallas.

Booker: Tap That (Booker #2)

A performance for the ages.

Courtney Johnson brings the house down in the heart of the vibrant Dallas Arts District. Later, shrills pierce the hallways of Wyle Theater when Courtney, a budding Broadway musical star, is found dead, a single bullet to the head.

Driven to find the killer before panic tears apart the arts community and all those who support it, private investigator Booker T. Adams discovers evidence of a professional hit, then uncovers a lovers ‘ triangle that takes him all the way to the mean streets of Boston.

And then it happens again. Another performer killed, someone Booker had met. Rocked by the shocking murders, performers and patrons alike fear that a serial killer is on the loose, and no one knows when and or where another dead body will show up.

But professional obligations quickly morph into personal vendettas. Running against an unforgiving clock, Booker is forced to solicit the help of a crime boss, The Shark.

With his life threatened at almost every turn, and his heart being put through a meat grinder, Booker taps into every resource at his disposal to stop more than just a killer.

But at what price?

Full of unforgettable characters, bone-chilling suspense and stunning thrills, BOOKER – Tap That is a wild ride that will test even the most fervent reader’s quest for a luminous reading experience.

BOOKER – Hate City (A Private Investigator Thriller Series of Crime and Suspense) by John W. Mefford is in interesting Suspense/Thriller. #3 in “A Private Investigator Thriller series of Crime and Suspense” series, but can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would suggest readers read the others in this interesting series as well.

This case involves a JFK assassination memorabilia murder, and another seemingly simpler murder, where either seem connected. This case spans decades of mystery. The historical facts on the different scenarios of the JFK assassination was a plus, to me. As well as  theft, mystery, crime, suspense,  and a blossoming romance makes for an exciting Crime Thriller.  Well written, with an intriguing storyline, and some amazing characters. Of course, you find those you don’t particularly like, but that’s the way of life. Another gripping tale from Mr. Mefford! Fans of Crime Thrillers, Suspense, Mystery, and Historical elements, with a touch of romance, are sure to enjoy “BOOKER: HATE CITY”.  I look forward to the next installment of this impressive series. A Fast paced Crime Thriller. Enjoyable and satisfying read!

So set back and enjoy your visit with author, P.M. Terrell!!

I’ve noticed something interesting since I introduced the characters of Dylan Maguire in my Black Swamp Mysteries series and Ryan O’Clery in The Tempest Murders. I can be talking about the books and my audience is listening politely, but as soon as I mention that they’re Irish, their eyes get wide and they don’t need to hear anything else. They want the books.

Just what is it about the Irish that we love so much?

Ancestors on both sides of my family were from Ireland. My father’s family was from what is now Northern Ireland, having arrived on America’s shores long before the Emerald Isle was divided into two countries. They all had jet black hair and vivid green eyes. My mother’s family, however, was filled with red-heads. It turned out that when the Vikings came south and raided Ireland, many of them remained and became more Irish than the Irish. It was the Vikings who brought the red hair to Ireland, so those towns and villages on the east coast were more likely to have red-heads since those were the landing sites of the Vikings. Those on the far west coast were more isolated and were more likely to have black or dark brown hair.

I learned from my mother that the Irish are a happy lot. “The luck of the Irish” is actually tongue-in-cheek because anyone who knows the Irish know they tend to have the worst luck of just about anybody. But they are incredibly resilient. They live in a country where it rains almost constantly and yet they’re the first to point out how green everything is, how fresh the air smells, and what a wonderful day they’re having. When I developed the character of Dylan Maguire, I gave him the personality of the happy Irishman; the one who is always ready for an ale and a laugh and a bit of craic (conversation). Conversation, as it turns out, is another character trait of the Irish. It’s said if you ever kiss the Blarney Stone, you’ll be given the gift of gab. But you won’t find many Irish kissing it, because if they did they might never shut up.

I learned from my father that the Irish can also be fierce defenders of their families and homes. Both Dylan Maguire and Ryan O’Clery are very strong, very capable and as it turns out, able to kill when the situation warrants it. They would both rather be passionately in love and having a romping good time but when CIA operative Dylan Maguire or Detective Ryan O’Clery are at work, they are all work. Physically fit and robust, no one could be more serious about keeping their families safe.

But let’s face it. One reason we love the Irish is because of their awesome accents. In a recent survey, the Scottish have the number 1 most admired accent in the world followed by the Irish and then the Australians. They have a lilt to their voices that make them easy to listen to; it’s sexy, it’s melodious and we just can’t get enough of it.

So tell me, what do you like most about an Irish character?

Thank you, for stopping by today, P.M. !

The dogs are then adopted into loving homes.

About the Book:

Detective Ryan O’Clery has always had dreams of a beautiful woman he’d loved and lost but when he discovers his ancestor’s journals from his native Ireland, he realizes his dreams are really the other man’s memories.

Now he is working a series of murders in North Carolina that are eerily similar to cases Rian Kelly was working when his soul mate was murdered during one of Ireland’s most horrific storms, in which the Atlantic Ocean swept over the island all the way to the Irish Sea.

As Hurricane Irene barrels toward the North Carolina coastline, Ryan discovers the serial killer’s real target is a reporter who bears a striking resemblance to the woman of his dreams—a woman with whom Ryan O’Clery is falling deeply in love.

Is history destined to repeat itself? Or can Ryan save Cathleen Reilly from a killer intent on destroying everything he ever loved?

Duncan Whitehead 2MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little about yourself?

DUNCAN:Well, I am English but I have lived in the United States since 2002.

After serving in the military for 20 years I began working as a Purser aboard some of the world’s largest private vessels. I’ve worked for many high profile individuals, and have been fortunate enough to visit some of the world’s most luxurious and exotic places.

I love comedy, and I write for various websites, have written material for comedians and have actually done a stint performing as a stand-up comedian myself.

I am a former boxer, representing the Royal Navy and an English under 19 team as an amateur.
I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and get by with Russian and Arabic. My hobbies and passions are cooking, the Israeli self defense art of Krav Maga, Esgrima Criolla (The South American Art of knife Fighting)and the deadly pressure point martial art Dim-Mak.

I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and “tweet” a lot!

MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind writing “The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club”?Gordonston Cover

DUNCAN: Gordonston itself!  I lived in the neighborhood where the book is set. I was inspired by the quirkiness of some of my neighbors, and the eeriness of the neighborhood.  Often I walked around the tree-lined neighborhood, especially during the summer months and encountered not one person.  The park in the book does exist, and I use to walk my dog there. I found it eerie that I was surrounded by these beautiful homes and had no idea what was going on behind the closed doors.  I figured it would be a great location for a suspense mystery, with some kind of quirky characters thrown in to the mix.

MBA&M: Why did you chose the suspense genre and dogs?

DUNCAN:The location and setting was ideal for a suspense thriller/mystery because it felt as though there were REAL secrets behind some of the closed doors.  I love stories, movies, books…anything with a twist, and a good “who done it” – so I decided not only would I write a who done it – but would make it a “who did it” also, with as many well thought out plot twists as I could muster!

Dogs?  Well, what is more normal and commonplace than someone walking a dog? And who would ever think a nice lady walking a dog could possibly want somebody murdered?

MBA&M: Who was your favorite secondary character and why?

DUNCAN: Ignatius Jackson, he was fun because though he seems just like a nice old guy whose only crime is failing to clean up after his dog…he has a secret…and it was fun portraying him as an innocent secondary character while all the time he (SPOILER) knows exactly what all of his neighbors are plotting……

MBA&M: What are some interesting facts you found while writing “The Gordonston Ladies Walking Club”?

DUNCAN: That 1 in 5 people in Savannah own a dog! And that of those who own a dog, 1 in 3 own more than one!

MBA&M: If you could have dinner with one of your characters which one, why and where would you go?

DUNCAN: Considering all the characters are flawed and potential killers, or would want to have someone killed that is a very tough question.  I think Cindy Mopper, and I chose her because she is the closest to good. I wouldn’t think I would want to be seen in public with ANY of these characters so we could eat at her place, her home cooked food….obviously I would, though,  make sure she tasted it first……

MBA&M: What is your favorite time of day and what motivates you the most to write?

DUNCAN: My favorite time of day is mid-morning and that is because by then I have read my e-mails, caught up on correspondence and worked out what I need to achieve for the day.  I like to have a coffee at around 10:30 and then I am set.

Having a good and sometimes fun story to tell motivates me to write.  I get a fantastic feeling when someone reads something I have written and enjoys it and tells me that it made their day, whether it be a joke, a tweet, a comedy news article or a chapter of my book.  My motivation is the reward of someone appreciating the work I produce.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers how or where to connect with you and where they may purchase your title?

DUNCAN:My book is available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and all major online retailers, both as an e-book and as a paperback AND hardback! I have a website with a full bio and a contact e-mail address.  The book is also stocked at several locations in Savannah, can be ordered from any bookstore in the USA, UK and Australia (if they do not have copies in stock).

I also have a very interactive Facebook fan page, which I invite everyone to visit and I would be only to happy to connect on a personal level with any of your readers to discuss any aspects of writing, comedy writing and indeed any subject!

I can also be found on twitter @DuncanWhitehead – where I tweet jokes (original jokes) and link to my comedy work on the web!

MBA&M: Thank you for spending time with us and our readers today. What an interesting interview.

Book Description(From Amazon)

Publication Date: November 14, 2012
Something is not quite right in the leafy Savannah neighborhood of Gordonston. As the friends and fellow members of her afternoon cocktail club gather to mourn the death and lament the life of their neighbor, Thelma Miller, not all is what it seems.

As old friends vie for the attention of widower, Alderman and mayoral candidate Elliott, jealousies surface and friendships are strained. An old woman with a dark secret and an infamous uncle plots her revenge for a perceived wrong done over thirty years before, a once successful children’s writer with his own secret is haunted by memories of the past and aspiring model Kelly Hudd has just won the trip of a lifetime.

As secrets are revealed and history, both old and recent, unravel and an intertwined web of deceits and lies surfaces in the middle class neighborhood a killer lurks and is anyone really who they seem to be? A mysterious European gentleman in South America, a young Italian count parading the streets of Paris and a charitable and kind hearted nephew recently arrived from India add to the remarkable assortment of characters in this story of intrigue, deceit and revenge. What is the secret a recently retired accountant is trying to hide and just why did the former showgirl and attractive sixty two year old widow Carla Zipp really have plastic surgery?

As the plot thickens and the Georgia summer temperature rises we discover who is destined for an early-unmarked grave in the wooded park that centers the tree-lined avenues of Gordonston.

A mysterious organization with links to organized crime, a handsome fire fighter who can do no wrong and a trio of widows with deep hidden agendas compound a story of simplistic complexity. As twists and turns lead the reader to a conclusion that they will not see coming and a sucker punch ending that will leave readers breathless, the Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club’s top priority remains the need to chastise the culprit who refuses to ‘scoop’ after his dog walking sessions in their treasured park.

Good morning, Luba and welcome to My Book Addiction and More!

MBA&M: Please give our readers a little insight into Luba Lesychyn?

Luba: Luba Lesychyn, pronounced le-si-shin by the way, is undeniably but shamefully a chocolate addict. I have tried everything from acupuncture to hypnotherapy and meditation to rid myself of the addiction, but it’s still with me. Fortunately, I’m not just ‘my addiction’. I am an intense culture hound and travel whenever I am able. I’m also very physically active–I teach yoga and run, take dance classes and martial arts oriented cardio classes and I do the gym rat thing too, i.e. weights and machines. And somewhere amidst all this I write. I’m tired just thinking about it.

MBA&M: What was the inspiration behind “Theft By Chocolate”?There is presently no cover image for this title.

Luba: Years ago, a friend gave me a copy of Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic. Being a shopaholic myself, I laughed my way through the book. Then I thought to myself, “I’m probably not the only chocoholic on the planet. Maybe I could spin a funny yarn about all the ridiculous things I’ve done to get my hands on chocolate and, at the same time, share the amazing world in which I had worked for so long, namely a museum. It was a long haul from there including seriously honing my writing skills for many years, but I am so proud of the final product, and I am certain it will make readers laugh.

MBA&M: Give our readers a little background on “Theft By Chocolate”?

Luba: As mentioned, I knew I wanted to write about chocolate and museums. But I am also a huge film fan and I have always loved movies about museum heists, particularly movies like Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief with Grace Kelly and Cary Grant. Although I enjoy the newer films that are highly focused on foiling space age technology, the basic cat and mouse plot has an enduring attraction for me. So, I was hoping to replicate that kind of feeling in my book, but with a little bit more humor, kind of a screwball heist story.

MBA&M: We understand the main characters are always discussed, but today we would like to talk a little about secondary characters. Please name a secondary character from “Theft By Chocolate”and tell our readers about them?

Luba: I’m so glad you asked that question because I am in love with my secondary characters. Not “in love” in love. But they can be so much fun to work with because you can often get away with a little more eccentricity in the secondary characters. If I had to choose one to highlight, it would be Aurelia Alberti. Aurelia works in the museum’s IT Department at the Help Desk where she’s supposed to trouble shoot computer problems for the staff. But on the side, she’s a singer for a Death Metal Band and she has a very black heart. She wreaks great havoc on the life of Kalena Boyko, the main character.

MBA&M: Is there any interesting facts you found while researching “Theft By Chocolate” you would like to share with our readers?

Luba: Besides the fact that chocolate contains four very highly addictive substances (that’s my story and I’m sticking with it), I happened upon some very interesting facts about a heist that had taken place in the museum where I had been working. The theft had taken place before I started working there, but everyone knew about it. But then, by chance, I met someone who had some insider information about the heist that sent me running back to my novel to do a rewrite.

It turned out that the thief had used an ingenious technique that stunned the security industry around the world. The culprit managed to circumvent what was considered state-of-the art technology in its day, a technology that was being used universally, not just in museums and art galleries, but in banks and businesses. International law keepers realized it wouldn’t be long before thieves around the world heard about the daring robbery and how it was executed. Basically, the planet’s riches, both great and small were suddenly at risk.

But the thief was never identified or caught and that made it all the more intriguing to me. I found a way to construct a fictitious plot around some very real facts and ended up with what you read in Theft By Chocolate.

MBA&M: If “Theft By Chocolate” was to become a movie, which actor/actress do you envision you would cast as your character(s)?

Luba: I love your questions. I feel like you know me. Because I have been such a huge film fan from about the age of four, when I write, the story plays very much like a movie in my head. As a matter of fact, my first major piece of writing was a screen play. But back to Theft By Chocolate, I had very early in the process cast Gwyneth Paltrow as Kalena and the dapper Hugh Grant as the devilishly irresistible Geoffrey Ogden.

MBA&M: What are some of the things that influence you while writing? Such as music, noises, pictures, etc. if any?

Luba: Music definitely influences me. It was while listening to a piece of music at the same time that my phone was accidentally knocked off the hook, and making that annoying sound to alert you to that fact, that I came up with the story for my screen play. As far as these types of influences that impacted Theft By Chocolate, it has to be aromas, textures and tastes of various chocolates I have experienced over the years.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where they can find “Theft By Chocolate”?

Luba: I can be found at as well as on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest (where visitors can check out a visual storyboard of Theft By Chocolate).  I can be contacted through my “Contact” page at the above web site.

Theft By Chocolate is available at over 100 eRetailers. Readers can go to the following link on my publishers web site (Attica Books) for direct links to various retailers.

Luba, do you have anything else you would like to say today?

Luba: Print copies of the book will be available in July. I will post details on and on my author’s Facebook page when I have the details.

Although chocolate lovers will definitely get a kick out of the book, anyone who might enjoy a sassy museum mystery about a woman of a certain age looking for chocolate, love and an international art thief in all the wrong places will have a fun ride. I’ve been getting some great reviews from both my male and female readers.

It’s been a delight to share a little about myself and my work with you. Thanks!

CAROLINE: I’m the child of a Costa Rican mother and an American father with strong Germanic roots. His family name was  Mueller but it was changed to Miller during WWII.  My mother loves to laugh and play.  My father loved to organize and work.  If ever they was an ant and cricket marriage this was one.  Somehow, I managed to blend both sets of genes and feel pretty lucky about it.   I can focus and see a job to  the end but I also know how to play.

CAROLINE: I don’t consider Gothic Spring to be young adult fiction though the heroine is 16.  I never loved, laughed, or played harder than when I was 16.  I never felt as deeply betrayed by the universe as when I was 16.  An half developed mind, raging hormones and bodily changes create the perfect stage for  drama on a grand scale. Shkespeare undrestood this when he wrote Romeo and Juliet.

CAROLINE: Gothic Spring is a journey into a mind that is unraveling.  The heroine, Victorine, is a young woman poised at the edge of sexual awakening and cursed with more talent and imagination than her Victorian society will tolerate.  The conflict between her desire and the restrictions that rule her life lead to dramatic circumstances.  I created this character and setting to explore how society and the attitudes of other women can deny a woman her freedom.  Having been active in the effort to pass the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) I saw first had how little freedom exists for women in our society, though we imagine it to be otherwise.

CAROLINE: Though some of my characters are admirable, they are too flawed to wish to be any of them.

CAROLINE: I have no regrets about being a writer though I came into the field enormously ignorant.   Given today’s technology , anyone with ambition can publisher a book.  The biggest challenge, given the number of works being printed, is to sell yours.   Having to hawk a book  as if it were a commodity on the Chicago Stock Exchange and not art is a disappointment.  Still, if it must be done, it is better to wade in without complaint.

CAROLINE: I’d like to be Bill Gates, not for his money, but for his ability to bring hope to shattered people because of it.

CAROLINE: I write a blog 5 days a week on writing and life.  I invite any readers to join me at:

Good morning and welcome to My Book Addiction and More…
MBA&M: Give our readers some insights into Jeannie Walker, please?
Walker:  Most of the reading and writing I did was in school. Growing up on a farm didn’t leave a lot of time for anything else except tending to farm animals. Any spare time I got, I spent outside sitting under a big oak tree enjoying nature and reading a good book. A master writer once told me, “If you want to become a good author, reading a lot of books will help you become a good writer.”
MBA&M: Where did the idea of “FIGHTING THE DEVIL” come from?
Walker: It came from a real-life scenario with the arsenic poisoning murder of my ex-husband and the pursuit of justice to find his killers.
MBA&M: What character is your favorite in “FIGHTING THE DEVIL”?Why?
Walker: Sheriff Jake Bogard is my favorite – He was a very colorful person, but also a very devoted lawman and a real-life Marshall Dillon. The Sheriff reminded me of the lawmen of long ago; like Wyatt Earp and Marshall Matt Dillon of the TV show GUNSMOKE, who would jump on their horses and chase down the bad guys.  Sheriff Bogard’s deputy was also a real-life “Festus”.  I dedicated my book to Sheriff Jake Bogard. He passed away before seeing any justice in the murder case.
MBA&M: I understand “FIGHTING THE DEVIL” is a true story, how hard was it write this amazing story?
Walker: It was incredibly hard to write. Writing it brought back a lot of bad memories and the injustice that oft times happens in the Criminal Justice System.
MBA&M: In telling your story to another crime victim of how you fought for justice what would be the first thing you would advise them to do?
Walker: Don’t give up!  It is my hope that anyone who reads my book will come to the realization that they are not alone in their struggles, no matter how big or small. And that they have the ability to overcome and the right to become their loved one’s advocate, and if necessary to become their own, real-life Sherlock Holmes.
MBA&M: How has this horrific event changed you and your family’s lives forever?
Walker: My children lost their father in a horrific way. I lost my best friend. This case is still an open murder case, as the main suspect (the widow) has yet to be tried or convicted for her part in the heinous murder. The good news is that there is no time limit on murder.
MBA&M: Did you get much backlash for writing “FIGHTING THE DEVIL”?
Walker: No, people wanted me to write the story. Some even begged me to write a book about it, after seeing the story on TV.
MBA&M: How did your family and other loved ones feel about you telling your story?
Walker: Some of my family wanted me to tell only parts of the story. But, a true story has to contain the facts, and the good with the bad.
MBA&M: What where the challenges in writing ‘FIGHTING THE DEVIL”?
Walker: Condensing three file cabinets full of binders loaded with medical records, police reports, trial transcripts and other information into an informative, interesting and entertaining concept for the reader.
MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where “FIGHTING THE DEVIL” is available.
Walker:  My true crime story is available many places.  My Author Website at:
Jeannie, do you have anything else to add today?
I would like to thank you and your readers for the kindness, valuable time and the opportunity to tell you about my true crime story.
Jeannie, it must have been very rewarding while exhausting fighting for justice. My heartfelt congratulations go out to you on your courage, bravery, and your desire for justice.

Description(from the author’s website)

A Texas millionaire rancher discovered his wife and bookkeeper had stolen thousands of dollars from him. After he demanded the money back, he started getting sick. While in the hospital, doctors were mystified as to how an otherwise healthy, energetic man could become so deathly ill. The dying man told everyone within earshot that his wife and bookkeeper were killing him. The man’s wife said her husband was hallucinating from drugs the doctors were giving him. The millionaire rancher succumbed in the hospital while strapped down to his bed with restraints on his hands and feet and tubes in every orifice. After the rancher died, an anonymous caller tipped off the police. The widow was the sole beneficiary of the estate and a $350,000 life insurance policy. A week before the man’s death, a teenager visited the rancher’s home and became deathly ill after he drank juice that was in the rancher’s refrigerator. Two years after the millionaire’s death, a bottle of arsenic was found in a storage locker rented by a woman under an assumed name. The millionaire’s ex-wife, the mother of his children, became a sleuth to help solve the murder. No one could have predicted the aftermath with its strange twists, unexplained phenonema and  unexpected results.
