Dog Eared Publicity Presents LIVE ECHOES by Henry V. O’Neil, on tour February 20 – March 3, 2017

Inside the Book:

Title: Live Echoes
Author: Henry V. O’Neil
Publisher: Harper Voyager Impulse
Genre: Science Fiction
Format: Ecopy
There’s new hope for resolution of the decades-long war against the Sims: the discovery of Omega, a mysterious planet far from the fighting. Reena Mortas, the embattled leader of the human alliance, is betting everything that Omega could unlock the mystery of what’s creating the Sims.

Meanwhile, her husband and predecessor, the missing-and-believed-dead Olech Mortas, has made contact with the aliens who gave mankind the faster-than-light mode of travel known as the Step. Existing in a different realm, Olech is re-living the most important decisions of his life—while trying to explain human contradiction to a being that looks just like him, known only as Mirror.

Olech’s children, Jander and Ayliss, are still embroiled in the war. Jander has rejoined the Orphan Brigade on the mineral-rich planet Celestia, where he comes to believe what many of the Orphans feel: they’re supporting the wrong side. Ayliss, fighting in the all-female Banshees, is soon thrown into the losing war against the Sims, not knowing that every Banshee in the Human Defense Force is slated for an all-out assault on Omega that could win the war—or get them all killed.

Live Echoes is the gripping end to the Sim War series, and finally answers its central question: Where did the Sims come from, and why are they bent on humanity’s destruction?

About the author:

Rusty discovered his passion for writing at an early age. When he was in the fourth grade he was given an assignment to write, illustrate, and bind a book. He liked it so much, he wrote three––most of which were pretty awful. One of those books, however, received accolades at a district writing competition.

Originally from California, Rusty is no stranger to apple boxes and packaging tape. He attended three different middle schools and two different high schools between California and Utah. He lived in Guatemala, learned to speak Spanish, and eventually made his way back to Utah, where he graduated from the University of Utah. Rusty’s first job out of college was the editor of a monthly Utah newspaper. For the past thirteen years he has been working in graphic design and marketing.

On the weekends, Rusty stays up late playing games and watching movies with his family. He and his wife, Jayne, reside in the beautiful mountains in Heber Valley with their six children.

Lieutenant Henry Gallant bannerWELCOME, ALAINA!

Character: Alaina Hepburn – Heroine of Lieutenant Henry Gallant

When I was a small child, the bright warm days of summer swore to me that each and every day would be lovely, forever. I believed that for quite a while – until my parent died.

I can remember waking up one night from a bad dream, reaching out for the edge of the bed, brushing away the covers and sitting up. I swung my legs over the side and onto the floor. There was enough light to see into the hallway to my parents’ bedroom. I stole quietly through the night into their room and climbed into bed next to my mother.

They tell me my mother was very beautiful. I inherited her yellow colored hair and blue eyes, but her parents had dark hair and eyes, so she always said we were misplaced on our family tree. I don’t really remember how she looked, other than what I’ve seen from a few poorly taken photos, but I remember how she made me feel. Curled up next to her, she would put her arms around me and hum a comforting lullaby; she made me feel—loved.

My father had known my mother only a short time before they were married. My father’s father was the only relative that remained. I was born shortly after we arrived here.

The house I live in was on the edge of town only a few gates down from my grandfather’s house. He worked the hardest to spoil me which I greatly enjoyed because I hadn’t reached school age, yet. He would play games and tell me stories until I was too tired or too hungry to remain any longer. Then I would go home and wait for the next morning when I could visit again.

It was my grandfather, James Hepburn, who told me my parents were dead.

He explained they had gone on an expedition to explore. It was their second voyage in a small boat with one other couple, mapping the islands and the location of resources. The first trip had been a resounding success and a great deal was learned.

On their second voyage, a horrible hurricane caught their small boat and they were lost at sea, or they were presumed lost, since their bodies were never recovered.

It would have been overwhelming loss if my grandfather had not been there to comfort and care for me. I’m ashamed to admit I struggled with grief, guilt, and depression. I had to let go of most of the painful feelings and move on. It was his kind gentle guidance that gave me a way to carry on. He taught me how to forgive myself for my mistakes and I developed my sense of purpose through his instruction. He was always there for me. I adored him, to say the least.

Of course, with only him to supervise me, I tended to run wild, finding my way into the woods and exploring on my own, trying to pick up the mantle of exploration that my parents had left. The result was a tom-boy existence, getting into lots of scrapes and fights with all the boys and girls my age.

One time, I was waiting motionless in a tree and almost dozed off while playing a game of hide and seek with several others. Before long, one of the boys spotted me, it was Liam, but he didn’t call out to expose me. Instead he came up and sat next to me. We remained hidden for hours while the others looked for us.

Thank you, for stopping by today!

Lieutenant Henry Gallant 2About the Book:

In an era of genetic engineering, Lieutenant Henry Gallant is the only Natural (non-genetically enhanced) officer left in the fleet. Many of his superiors, including rival Anton Neumann, have expressed concern he is not up to the challenge. However, his unique mental abilities have proven essential to the defense of the United Planets in its fight against the Titan invaders.

Serving on the first FTL prototype, the Intrepid, on its maiden voyage to Tau Ceti, Gallant finds a lost colony on the planet Elysium. Cyrus Wolfe and his son, manipulate planet politics against the democratic opposition led by James Hepburn and his granddaughter Alaina. Wolfe has allied himself with an ancient Artificial Intelligence which had lain dormant on the planet for millennia, but is now willing to protect the colonists against the Titans.

With Alaina’s help, Gallant discovers the ancient AI has a sinister ulterior motive and he matches his unique and exceptional mind against the complexity of machine intelligence to escape the ultimate trap and prevent the extermination of humanity.

In Lieutenant Henry Gallant, one man pits the naked human mind against the perspicacity of machine intelligence.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little about yourself?

Hi, there! My name is Karina, I’m an avid lover of all things creative and exciting. I write romance, urban fantasy, and pretty much anything else people will let me get away with. I’m so happy to be here!

MBA&M: Why do you enjoy writing Paranormal Romance?

I believe in spirits and witches and things that go bump in the night. I love the concept of forbidden love, especially when it crosses “species” lines—like vampires and humans, or witches and witch hunters. Paranormal romance allows me to write about the magic and mayhem I believe is out there.

MBA&M: Where did the idea of “A Dark Mission” series come from?

I was watching Discovery one day, and they were doing a special on supervolcanoes. That got me thinking that I live on a subduction zone, which is the kind of tectonic plate edge responsible for the world’s worst earthquakes. What would happen if the pacific northwest collapsed? How would humanity cope? Obviously, my optimism doesn’t run very high…

MBA&M: I understand that “One For The Wicked” is the final book  in “A Dark Mission” series,do you feel that readers should read the first one or is it considered a standalone?

I think the series shines best when read in order. All of the elements that lead to One for the Wicked’s climax are laid out in the previous books, and the characters we see have their own stories that outline why they do what they do. You can read it alone, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

MBA&M: What three words would you say describe your writing style? And what authors do you feel influenced your writing career?

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are the two I most often “blame” for setting me on this path. Not because their fiction influenced me, but because they themselves influenced me. Cherry Adair taught me how to plot, and it’s thanks to her that I can be so prolific! When it comes to words to describe my writing style, I’d say, “Dark, intense, gritty”.

MBA&M: What was the hardest scene to write, and how hard is it to keep the sensual action going throughout the book and not lose the context of the story?

The hardest scene for me to write in One for the Wicked was a point where Shawn reveals himself as a total bad guy. It’s from Kayleigh’s POV, but I knew if I went too far, readers would never see him for the torn man he really was. I worked hard to levy the right amount of fear, anger and total jackwagon behavior without crossing the line. Some might say he crossed it long before, though.

MBA&M: Now, inquiring minds what to know, or rather me, do you get lost in a book in the story,  rather reading one or writing a story?

I do actually get lost! The beauty of how I write is that I’ve got it all plotted before-hand, which means I can just put words to page and let it flow. I don’t ever have to stop and think, “What would she do?” I know, and it’s like reading a book as the words are laid down. I can’t really read without getting sucked in to the story. I’d be a terrible editor!

MBA&M: Which character in “One For The Wicked” jumps out at your and why?

I really, really love Kayleigh. I have a weakness for alpha males, I won’t lie, but something about Kayleigh really resonates with me. She’s a smart woman with very base instincts—she loves the rough and ready men, gets her motor cranked by rough hands and dangerous smiles—but she’s trapped in this world where her father is the only family she has left and everything is falling apart around her. I think that, like Juliet, she has an inner sort of strength that doesn’t reveal itself physically, but in how she bears what happens to her.

MBA&M: What is your next project, if you can share a few tidbits, we will gladly keep your secret? <image001.gif>

I’ll just bet you will! 😉 My next project is a novella coming out in the St. Croix Chronicles—my award-winning steampunk urban fantasy. The Mysterious Case of Mr. Strangeway is a project near and dear to my heart, because half of my proceeds will be given to Make a Wish. You can read more about it at this link: http://karinacooper.com/cherry-news-a-novella-with-heart/

MBA&M: Thank you for spending time with us and our readers today. Now last but not least, please tell our readers where they may connect to you and where they may purchase “One For The Wicked”?

Thank you so much for letting me come play! I hope your readers love the series as much as I loved writing it.

About the Author:

Born from the genetic mash-up of lesser royalty, storytellers, wanderers and dreamers, KARINA COOPER was destined to be a creative genius. As a child, she moved all over the country like some kind of waifish blonde gypsy and thrived in the new cultures her family settled in. When she (finally) grew up, she skipped the whole genius part and fell in love with writing because, really, who doesn’t love making things up for a living?

One part romance fanatic, one part total dork, and all imagination, she writes dark and sexy paranormal romance and urban fantasy. When she isn’t writing, Karina is an airship captain’s wife and Steampunk fashionista. She lives in the beautiful and rainy Pacific Northwest with a husband, four cats, two rabbits, the fantasy of a dog, and a passel of adopted gamer geeks.

ONE FOR THE WICKED by Karina Cooper is an interesting Paranormal Romance/Science Fiction/Fantasy. #5 in the “Dark Mission” series and the finale. While, “One For the Wicked” may be read as a stand alone, I feel you need to read all four to better understand the characters, and the plot. See “Blood of the Wicked”,”Lure of the Wicked”,”No Rest for the Witches(A Novella)”,”Sacrifice the Wicked”,and “Wicked Lies”. Follow,Dr. Kayleigh Lauderdale and Shawn Lowe on a journey of love with a bit of betrayal along the way. Filled with witches, enemies, the resistance, revenge, passion, desire, prejudice, secrets, betrayal and of course love. What happens when a witch meets a sexy bodyguard,”One For the Wicked”,of course. A wonderful and powerful conclusion to the “Dark Mission” series, and one if you have followed along you will hate to see gone. Ms. Cooper is a wonderful storyteller, who using engaging characters and a great storyline. With a few twist and turns added in for extra measure. If you enjoy paranormal, romance, science fiction, fantasy and love than you will not regret picking up “One For The Wicked”. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

~Welcome, Kara of The Knights of Galaria~

Thank you, Kara for taking a few moments of your time for us….

My Graduation

It’s a hot day on the plaza, definitely warmer than expected, and these uniforms certainly are doing nothing to aid the situation. But impending heatstroke aside, it is hard to be at this ceremony and not reflect on the last seven years I’ve spent at this institution. Why, this place has been my home since the day my parents dropped me off at the academy, shortly after my eleventh birthday.

Why aren’t they here? Royal duties or not, they should be here to see the culmination of all my hard work, to see me ascend into the Knight Corp.

Well, that’s a laugh. I still haven’t told my father King Wilhelm that I plan to serve in the Corp professionally. Until now, military service had just been tradition for the royal household up to the end of the academic level. Father will surely throw a fit when I tell him. I’m sure he’s probably already handpicked a prince for me to marry; my days attending royal functions, my evening’s banquets and balls.

I scoff at the very notion. I have yet to meet the prince who believes he can tame me, the majority around Galaria already know better by now. They’re not even on my radar. Not like him.

Kaz looks dashing, walking up the steps to the stage in his brand new uniform. The role of valedictorian suits him, he deserves it, he’s worked very hard. Poor thing, he looks so nervous. I should flash him a smile to let him know it’ll be fine. Once the Supreme Commander’s speech is finished, then it should be Xul Xandu’s, then Kaz’s should be right after. I do hope his nerves don’t get the better of him.

In any event I want to get past this ceremony to get to the gala. I’ve had my brand new red dress flown in from Zanru and can’t wait to wear it. Yes, today is shaping up to be a wonderful day…

Again,Thank you Kara for stopping by today!

For Kaz Silverwynd, graduation from the Galarian Knight Academy begins normally, but an the attempt on the life of Xul Xandu, the newly-appointed head of the Confederation of Nations, pushes Kaz and his team into an epic and dangerous adventure. The action ranges from the floating city of Civitas to the underwater empire of Aequoria to the moon colony of Ourea. Kaz leads his band of knights on a perilous journey to stop a madman from achieving his ultimate goal – the conquest of the world of Galaria. Added to the already volatile mix are the legendary Crystals of Power, a collection of beautiful but deadly jewels that could tip the scales of power toward good or evil.

Visiting another century…not the summer vacation Abby had planned.

Those who have read Time and Again and Unclaimed Legacy, the first two books in the young adult time-travel trilogy, know that Abby Thomas, is a college student on a summer service project with 11-year-old Merri. And you know that the summer is not going the way Abby had expected—but in a good way. For one thing, she meets a very nice guy named John Roberts. And for another, she discovers a strange computer program called Beautiful House that lets her fast-forward and rewind life. Not her own, of course, but those of the people who lived in Merri’s old house. And the Old Dears’ old house, and…well, any old house.

And now their computer program is starting to attract attention.

Since the program worked so well for the Old Dears’ family tree project, Abby’s college roommate Kate hopes it will help her find out more about her ancestor Ned Greenfield. And Kate’s fiancé Ryan thinks the program has lucrative commercial potential.

Abby and John reluctantly agree to help Kate, but only on the condition that she and Ryan promise to keep the program a secret, because if it fell into the wrong hands…well, no one wants Big Brother invading their privacy.

The two couples take a trip to the tiny town of Equality, set in the hills of southern Illinois and the breath-taking Shawnee National Forest. According to Kate’s research, Ned Greenfield was born there at a place called Hickory Hill.

The mayor, police chief, and townspeople are hospitable and helpful—until the topic of Hickory Hill comes up. They seem determined to keep them away, telling them, “There’s nothing there for you to see.”

Eventually they find Hickory Hill on their own—both the mansion and the lonely hill it sits upon. Built in 1834, Hickory Hill stands sentinel over Half Moon Salt Mine where the original owner John Granger accumulated his blood-tainted fortune.

Abby and her friends meet Miss Granger, Hickory Hill’s current eccentric owner, and they eventually get the chance to time-surf there. Their shocking discovery on the third floor concerning Kate’s ancestor Ned Greenfield is almost too much to bear. What they learn sends them racing to the opposite end of the state to find the missing link in Kate’s family tree. And there they are reminded that God is in the business of redemption—that one day he’ll make all things new.

The Economics of Change

Mac Fallows
Some economic models just don’t work. Lots of products that make sense for the consumerare derailed by the associated costs- the cost of production, the cost of delivery, even the cost of building awareness- in which case, the product simply never gets made. But sometimes, when demand is sufficient, the broken economics can actually lead to a change in the way things are done.
As it turns out, there was sufficient demand for books that didn’t make economic sense for traditional publishers and agents to spark a change in the publishing industry, for example. New genres and art forms, not to mention new voices, have found ways around the upside down economics of the traditional publishing world to the reader.  These days, more and more authorsare shouldering the risk and reaping the rewards without the usual business partners. And perhaps even more importantly, they’re evolving their art form much more quickly than traditional publishing ever could- or even wanted to.
Musical stories are just one example of a genre that traditional publishers have been unable to seriously consider, given the economics, and would likely never develop on their own. Publishers have long since acknowledged that interest for a musical book by J.K Rowling and Adele, for example, would no doubt be sky high; however, on the whole, the risk attached to such a book would outweigh the potential rewards. Traditional publishers don’t know anything about music, and there are a lot more costs involved in producing a musical book than there are producing the regular kind. Add to the mix that we’re talking about a market that is completely unproven and you end up with a genre that will never see the light of day… unless artists themselves develop it.
Fortunately for the reading public, that’s exactly what’s happening in this case- and many others. Where this takes us is anybody’s guess but one thing is for sure: readers are going to play more of a role than ever before in the evolution of the book industry.
And that’s a good thing.

About the Author:

Reclusive writer and composer Mac Fallows first began pitching the idea of a musical book for teens and adults to music and book publishers in the late eighties. But without the technology to support his vision, he didn’t get far.

So instead, he set out to travel the world in search of new challenges . . . and stories. He went on to write and produce over 100 songs in a dozen languages in places including Dakar, Mumbai, Prague, and Santiago for singers including Youssou N’dour, Shankar Mahadevan, Pape and Cheikh, and Kavita Krishnamoorthy.

Wondertown is the first true musical story he’s published. It includes a full-length fantasy novel, 12 related songs and 17 illustrations.

Visit his website at www.wonderlandproject.com.

App. 300 Pages

Wondertown is a full-length fantasy novel from Mac Fallows that includes twelve original songs-each one an extension of the story sung by the characters themselves- and seventeen illustrations from acclaimed illustrator, Emrah Elmasli.

The story centres around Neil Abbott, an undersized, introverted eleven-year old boy with the ability to tell about people by touching their possessions. He doesn’t fit in either at home or at school and rarely speaks to anyone, with the exception of his grandmother, who has a secret talent of her own.

One day, after a particularly difficult week, Neil asks his grandmother if she thinks he’s normal, and she responds by telling him the remarkable story of an unlikely hero, who long ago crossed the five parts of the world to free his only friend from a demon lord. Filled with hidden meaning, vivid images, and songs that bring the characters to life, Wondertown is an unforgettable journey to a place inside each of us few of us dare to go.

Thank you for spending time with us and our guest today. Please spread the word.

Good morning, Eric and welcome to My Book Addiction and More today!!
MBA&M: Tell our readers a little about yourself?
I am originally from Anchorage, AK and recently moved with my amazing girlfriend and her adorable little dog to Seattle, WA. The most important thing about me is that I love the rain and the grey. I am in my early twenties (for another year) and I love to write. It is my favorite past time other than video games. I also love talking to strangers, which I know I shouldn’t do, but I find it fascinating.
MBA&M: What made you decide to write a paranormal romance?
Honestly, writing a paranormal romance sort of started out as a parody of paranormal romance. I thought the silliness and absurdity of a girl falling in love with a zombie would fit my style of comedy and would be something different. However, when I started writing the book, I realized that what I was writing was actually completely realistic. If there truly was a zombie apocalypse, every zombie that you met (or killed) would be somebody’s father, sister, son, husband. And so the book took on a new level of truth, and I began taking the story much more seriously.
MBA&M : What where some of the challenges in writing “Zombie Love”?
The biggest challenge for me was walking the line of comedy, while trying to keep my book from being one big “joke”. The book is meant to make people smile and laugh, but at it’s heart, it is a possibly accurate portrayal of a zombie apocalypse.
MBA&M: What are some of your writing habits?
Headphones!!!! This is the most important thing for my writing. The world has to go away so that I may live in my world, which is essentially in my head. Some times I turn on my noise cancelling headphones with no music playing.
MBA&M: Who is your hero/heroine in your world?
This is going to sound cliche, but it’s my mom. She raised three kids by herself for many years and still to this day is the kindest, most loving person on the planet. She does no wrong.
MBA&M: If you could step into another world or time, where would it be and when? Why?
Oh my gosh, so here comes the nerd side of me. I would give almost anything to live in The Elder Scrolls universe! i have spent so much time in that world as it is, I feel like I could really fit in there and would love nothing more than to be an adventurer and explore dungeons.
MBA&M: What top 3 reads/author,do you feel most encouraged your writing? Why?
Top three are Stephen King, Terry Brooks, C.S. Lewis. These are not necessarily my current favorite authors, but I have been reading books from them for over a decade, so I feel that they really molded not only the way I write, but my desire to create.
MBA&M: Who do you feel your writing is most like, which author?
I am going to be an optimist, and say Stephen King. I like to think that I have a similar style of pacing and way of diving straight into the action, even if that action might be kind of gross.
MBA&M:  What’s next for you and your writing career?
Next up are Books 2 and 3 for the Zombie Love Series!! I am working on the second and am already so happy with where the story is going, and how the characters are changing. After the Zombie Love series is done? Don’t worry, I have plenty of ideas. Not sure which direction I will go yet, but humor keeps me going so everything I do will probably be weird and fun.
Eric, you do have anything else to add today?
I would just like to say thank you so much for your time, and I hope that everybody checks out the book! I would also just like to say thank you to Kyle Morrow for creating the cover art for me. It is my favorite part of the book. Thank you!

Zombie Love is the story of a widespread virus, in a way that has never been done before. As people lose loved ones, some decide that sometimes the people you love are the only ones worth fighting for. As factions form, and the world crumbles, people must choose sides. Help or destroy. When a virus is developed as the ultimate cure all by reversing death itself, the world is plunged into a crisis of faith, dedication, and love. In book one we meet Summer Strom, a normal high school teenager who is thrown cruelly into a set of circumstances that nobody should have to deal with. She has to fight back against everybody she knows as she battles for the only thing worth fighting for. Love.
