When Giselle McTavish left France as the wife of a Scottish laird, she never expected to be widowed two years later and left with a toddler to raise. Filled with animosity toward Highlander, Hugh Ferguson—the man she holds responsible for her husband’s drowning, and a man she must see every day because he, too, lives at Craiglocky Keep—she’s determined her son, the next laird, will be raised in Scotland, nonetheless. Her struggles to overcome loneliness and homesickness are compounded as it becomes more difficult to fight the warm feelings Hugh now stirs in her.

Hugh has loved Giselle almost from the moment he laid eyes on the petite Frenchwoman. But as the wife, and then the widow of his dearest friend, he has refused to act on his feelings. He blames himself for his friend’s death. Guilt as well as the belief Giselle hates him, keeps Hugh’s lips firmly closed and his heart sealed. “A promising debut.”—PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Scottish Romance doesn’t get much steamier—or more dangerous—than a spy hunting her quarry, and losing her heart to him instead.
To pay a seemingly impossible debt, Mariel Brandon has become a spy for Aaron, one of England’s deadliest minds. Aaron’s latest mission for the sharp-witted and daring Mariel is to find two people in a heavily fortified castle on the Isle of Skye, a castle headed by the clan MacDonald and the powerful Kieran. Mariel is to seduce Kieran and get him to take her to Skye. If she succeeds, Aaron promises to let Mariel’s young brother go, and to free both of them from their debt.  If she fails, her brother will die.
What she doesn’t count on is craving Kieran MacDonald almost immediately upon meeting him. Now Mariel must keep a secret from Kieran—one that could get them both killed—as she tries to form a plan that will save her brother, get her out from under Aaron’s thumb once and for all, and keep her in Kieran’s strong arms forever.

Scott_Devil's Moon_MMAbout DEVIL’S MOON:
A WARRIOR’S PROMISE
The last place Sir David “Devil” Ormiston expected his moonlight chase of a horse thief to end was in a lady’s bedchamber. He is shocked to find that the raider he has pursued is no man, but a defiant beauty in disguise-and the woman he’s vowed to protect at all costs. Face to face with a girl Dev thought he knew, the ever confident, marriage-resistant knight may learn that he is defenseless against the desirable woman she has become.
A LADY’S SECRET
Lady Robina Gledstanes will do anything to keep her family’s land out of the hands of her greedy kinsmen-except willingly submit to the handsome, cocksure Devil Ormiston. Dev’s help may be just as dangerous as the threats lurking outside her castle. But when enemies scheme to steal the castle’s treasure, Robina must risk losing something even more precious-her heart.

Scott_Devil's Moon_MMDEVIL’S MOON Excerpt:

Watching Dev, Robina was grateful for his restraint. They reached the graveyard soon afterward and dismounted to look at the grave. She sensed Rab’s presence strongly as they stood there, but he kept silent, too.
“What is it, Robby? Art sad again?”
Startled, she said, “Not sad, just pensive.”
“I think you have been pensive since I arrived, or longer,” he said. “Keeping secrets, or thinking about Rab?”
Uncertain how to reply, since the truth was unacceptable, she realized that silence was just as bad. Dev would surely suspect that she was keeping something from him.
She would have liked to tell him about the jar of coins, but Rab’s warning was sensible. And, in truth, whether Dev was currently master of Coklaw or not, the money belonged to Benjy, not to Dev.
The thought was disheartening, and she wished Rab would recall that he had trusted Dev. Confiding in him should be not only safe but sensible.
Rab, however, remained as silent as his grave.
“We should head back down,” she said with a sigh.
“Keeping secrets then,” Dev said grimly. “Don’t you trust me?”
“Oh, Dev, no, don’t think that,” she said, putting a hand to his arm, shocked that he had so nearly guessed her thoughts. “I know I’ve been a bit difficult, but—” Breaking off when he grinned, she said bluntly, “Do you think that was funny?”
He shook his head and bit his lower lip.
“Damnation, David Ormiston, do you dare to laugh at me now?”
“Nay, nay, I’m striving mightily not to laugh or to say what I’m thinking.”
“Just what were you thinking?”
“That when you refuse to tell me what you are thinking and then say that I’m mistaken to suspect a lack of trust, you make me want to kiss you one minute and put you over my knee the next. But, by heaven, if you swear at me again, I’ll—”
“I won’t swear,” she said hastily. “But neither will I tell you all I think. Some things are still private, sir, one’s thoughts especially so. But if you want to kiss me again,” she added, feeling suddenly and strangely shy but determined, “you may.”
“May I?” He raised his eyebrows. “I will admit that I enjoyed your kiss when we were here before. But others would say that I’d taken advantage of you.”
“They would be wrong,” Robina said. “I kissed you first. I wanted to know how it would feel, and now I want to know if it feels the same way whenever one kisses a man. I do trust you with my virtue, Dev.”
“Do you, Robby? You should not be so trusting. Sithee, I’m not certain I can trust myself. You’re a mighty tempting wench. But there are rules.”
“Bother the rules,” she said. “Do you not want to kiss me?”
“Aye, sure, I do,” he responded, pulling her roughly into his arms.
Uncertain now, but curious, she looked up and tried to gauge his mood. But he allowed her no time for that before his lips claimed hers, hot and demanding.
As he held her close, she heard him moan quietly in his throat.

***
Dev heard his moan, too, and realized that she had bewitched him. He wanted her in every way—other than marriage, of course, he reminded himself brutally. He suspected, though, that her invitation had just been an attempt to avoid answering his question about the secrets she was keeping from him.
The pliskie lass needed a lesson, and he needed release for his own emotions or whatever it was that enflamed his body, if only to show her the dangers of tormenting men … one man, at least.
Thrusting his tongue into her mouth and finding it hot inside and yet softly yielding, he pressed his lower body tightly against hers, letting her feel his desire.
She was too short, but a flat-topped boulder sat nearby. Without warning or sign, he lifted her to stand on it and did so without releasing her mouth.
For once in her life, she did not fight him but wrapped her arms around him and held him as tightly as he held her.

MY THOUGHTS:

Devil’s Moon (Border Nights #2)

  • Devil's Moon (Border Nights) #2 in the “Border Nights”series, but can be read as a stand alone set in 1403 Scotland. A Historical Romance, mystery, with paranormal elements. Yes, it has a ghost. While, slow at times, it is still a very enjoyable and satisfying read! The characters are engaging, enjoyable and will capture your heart, especially nine year, Benjy. Well written, with an intriguing storyline. I enjoy Ms. Scott’s tales of romance, Highlanders, the magic of Scotland, and her joy of the Scottish borderers. The H/H was engaging, even if the heroine was a bit over the top to me, she was a devil may care, have her own way, do as she pleases with her deceased brother whispering in her ear. The hero was strong, but a bit unsure of himself in his new position, as the guardian of the new laird, a nine year old and his sister. A bit of mystery and danger is not remiss, as well as passion and adventure. Overall, an interesting, enjoyable and satisfying romance. I can’t wait for the next installment.

Top 5 favorite summer reads:
I haven’t had time to read, so let’s change this to Top 5 Hero attributes.
1. He must possess an honor code. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a popular one, but he must live it, despite what it may cost him.
2. A merciful heart. It could start out cold, but he’ll need to forgive the heroine for doing things like slapping him in the face a time or two,  defying his commands,  or arguing endlessly with him while managing to set his heart racing.
3. He must be courageous in the face of any battle, physical or emotional.
4. He must be loyal. A man who cheats is ugly, even one who wears a plaid.
5. He must appreciate the heroines attributes, even if those attributes are wielding a sword, shooting an arrow, or standing up to a king.

But soon fighting his desire for Trina becomes his toughest battle yet, and he will have to make an agonizing choice: sacrifice his quest-or lose the woman who has stolen his heart.
Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd excerpt…
Quinn_The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan_E-BookHe moved up against her again, sending hot fissures down her spine, and curled his arm around her waist. His grip was filled with strength and tension, yet gentle when he pulled her closer. “Miss Grant,” he scorched across her lips, hypnotizing her, paralyzing her. “I’ve had the Royal Navy on me arse. I don’t care about yar kin comin’ after me. Still, I’d prefer not to battle me father’s friend.”
In an instant the gravity of what she had done became clear. Her kin would indeed come after her and he wasn’t afraid. He was obviously mad, not in his right state of mind. Nevertheless, her kin could die in a battle on the sea. “Then…” She arched her back to get away from him. He moved in over her. What would a madman do with her? With Kyle? She needed to know. “…what d’ye plan on doing with me?”
He gave her no time to think, to catch her breath, to pull away…if she had a mind and the strength to do.
Caitrina had been kissed a few years back by young John MacKinnon. But she knew, as the captain’s beguiling mouth dipped down to hers, that this kiss was going to be very very different.
And hell, she was correct.
There was nothing gentle or curious about it. His mouth covered hers with dominance and scalding heat while he dragged her in against the rigid, flat lines of his body. His tongue teased against her lips, licking, tasting her, tempting her to join in his sweet madness. Like that flame, he swept over her, consuming her muscles, scorching her nerve endings. He kissed her until she began to believe he had every right to do so—until her knees went weak and a slight, pitiful gasp escaped her lips.
He finally broke away with a slow, seductive smile she wanted to gaze at for years to come.
She slapped him hard across his face, lest he think to take further liberties in the future—since she hadn’t stopped him the first time.
For a moment, something dark and fully seductive moved across his features. She thought, trying to slow her heartbeat, that he might either strangle her or rip the gown from her body and have his way with her.
“Fergive me,” he said roughly and without a trace of remorse. “I misjudged. I don’t bed children.”
Her mouth fell open and her eyes narrowed into slits. Here she thought he was being gallant, when he was simply being insulting. Children! How dare he imply that she wasn’t yet a woman! “I should slap ye again fer yer insult,” she seethed.
“Do it,” he provoked her with a sinful, sinuous smile, “and the beast that I am at this moment keepin’ at bay, will more than likely haul ya up against that wall and take ya, despite yar protests.”
She felt the color drain from her face. She couldn’t breathe, or think, or speak, blushing and stammering about for something to say. The images he conjured for her frightened and thrilled her out of her skin at the same time. She didn’t like being threatened but she wasn’t a fool to test him.

About THE SWEET SURRENDER OF JANET BUCHANAN
SHE WOULD NOT BE CONQUERED . . .
Janet Buchanan is no man’s property. She refuses to marry her family’s sworn enemy-consequences be damned. She’d rather take a dagger to the brute herself. Yet when a tantalizing-and infuriating-man from her past comes to her rescue, Janet finds herself undeniably tempted by his hot, hungry kiss.
HE COULD NOT BE TAMED . . .
Notorious for his prowess as a lover and a fighter, Darach Grant has only one goal in mind: to defend his kin’s land from the impending siege of a hostile clan. The last thing he needs is the delicious distraction of Janet Buchanan-the only woman who can stir his ire as deeply as she warms his blood. But Janet’s intended will stop at nothing to claim her, forcing Darach to choose between surrendering his honor . . . or his heart.
Quinn_The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan_E-BookSweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan excerpt..
She laughed, drawing his gaze to her mouth. “My, my, Grant, but ye certainly havena’ changed. Ye are as cocky as before.”
“Ye’re no’ the first to think so.” Letting her hear the smirk in his voice, he raised his fingers to her face and caressed the sweet contour of her chin. He stopped suddenly at the pinch of steel at his groin. He looked down at the small dagger in her free hand, poised between his legs.
“If ye don’t remove yer hand from my face, I’ll most likely be the last.”
Her promise was made of silk and steel, convincing enough to keep him still. Close enough to look into her eyes, Darach drenched his vision in what he saw. A strong, fearless lass, who at present, was enjoying herself immensely. A spirited mare with lightning quick hands and a merciless tilt of her lips.
“I only wish to kiss ye, lass. Nothin’ more,” he promised quietly, pressing her, drawing her in with a finger under her chin. She wouldn’t kill him. Not with a marriage to the Menzie chief looming in her future. He tilted his head and grazed her mouth with his, just lightly enough to share breath, short and instantly heated. He watched her eyes close, her lips parting ever so slightly to receive him more fully.
He paused. What was he doing? Hadn’t it taken him months to put Janet out of his mind? Didn’t every lass he’d pursued since meeting her pale in comparison to her fiery spirit? She made him want to tame her, even though he knew he never could. No one ever would. Should he pursue her this time? She claimed to hate him but he doubted it to be true. What if it wasn’t true and he breaks her heart when he leaves yet again? He might want Janet Buchanan, but Grants didn’t lose things like castles…or hearts to Buchanans. What if his kin didn’t accept her?
“The thought of yer mouth on mine repulses me,” she said shakily, moving back.
She lied. Darach smiled. He didn’t want to think about his kin or past feuds, or anything but Janet’s mouth. She slept in his bed. She thought of him enough to feel the need to write about it—just like he did. It shouldn’t feel like a victory, however small, but it did. And since Darach already knew that victories with Janet would be few, he allowed himself to take enjoyment in it. He took a step closer and dipped his lips to her ear. “Prove it.”
Just as he suspected, she couldn’t. She fell weak when he took her up in the crook of his arm. She didn’t resist his hungry mouth, but searched his with equal abandon.
She awakened every nerve ending, sending scorching heat through Darach’s body. He stopped thinking and kissed her the way he’d dreamed of kissing her long after he left her. With a tight groan and an arm beneath her waist, he hefted her up, closer, if that were possible, and supported her back and her nape while he bent over her and deepened their kiss. He felt her resistance, very slight. Another man might have ignored it. But Darach wasn’t other men. He wanted to fit her between his thighs and let her feel what she brought him to, but he’d promised that he’d only wanted a kiss.
So he steadied her and set her firmly on her feet.
He’d gone daft. It had to be that.
She may have swayed. He knew he did.
She stared at him through hooded eyes and almost made him regret stopping. “If ye ever do that again,” she warned an instant later, looking more clear-headed. “I’ll scratch oot yer eyes.” Without waiting for his reply, she bent and plucked her letters from the trunk. “I’ll send someone tomorrow fer the rest of Margaret’s things. Now move aside and let me pass.”
He obeyed, smiling as she left his chamber. Returning to his bed, he wasn’t completely sure if he wanted to bed her or toss her out the window. He picked up his pillow and smelled her fragrance all over it.
Bed her.
Most definitely.

~~SO,WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, HERE IS THE AMAZING AND TALENTED: SUE-ELLEN WELFONDER and an interview with Alasdair led by Devorgilla…..~~

a - se - my favorite placeI’m so excited to be here today to celebrate the release of Seduction of a Highland Warrior, which concludes my Highland Warriors trilogy.  WendyK and I go way back and so I wanted to do something special for this visit.

Something fresh and fun that hasn’t appeared anywhere else.

Many readers will have already seen the book’s blurb and reviews.  Perhaps you’ve seen excerpts.  As Barnes and Noble shipped weeks early, maybe you’ve even read the book.

I’ve been writing for many years, so you’ll likely also have seen my answers to the usual Q&As:  “Why do you love Scotland?”  (Scottish family background, a lifetime of visiting Scotland, and why not? There’s no place more special.)  “Why do you write Scottish-set books?”  (See above.  Or know that I believe writers should only write what they’re passionate about, otherwise the words are just ink on the page.)  “Why do you think Highlanders are so sexy?”  (If you don’t know, you’re dead or hopeless.)  Kilt or burr?  (The latter because it remains to thrill and melt you after the kilt is removed.)  Do you eat Haggis?  (Yes, and I LOVE it.)  And so on and so forth.

So because this is a Big Day, I’m skipping the usual and kicking it up a notch by having Devorgilla, one of my all-time favorite characters, interview Alasdair MacDonald, the hero of Seduction of a Highland Warrior.

Nothing like letting a hot Highland hero speak for himself, h’mmm?

And who better than old Dev to ask the questions we’d love answered?

To those of you not familiar, Devorgilla is a cailleach.  A meddlesome but well-meaning crone who wields mischief and magic in many of my books.

Before I let her bump me off the page, here’s the official series description:

Highland Warriors Trilogy

Three proud warriors locked in a struggle for victory.
Three beguiling women united in their vow to restore peace.

And my own one-sentence summary for the book…

Seduction of a Highland Warrior:A - SE - Seduction of a Highland Warrior Final

A proud Highland chieftain returns to his beloved glen only to find that he still desires the woman he’s tried to forget and that claiming her is more likely to destroy them than quench their forbidden passion.

A - Devorgilla-1Now I’m backing away because I can see Devorgilla stepping into my office, her gait most determined for a woman of her great age.  She has a wicked glint in her eye, so I’m sure she has some tough questions for poor, unsuspecting Alasdair.

Dev:  (rubbing her hands)  So-o-o, laddie!  If there be aught you could say to our Lady Scribe, what would it be?

Alasdair:  (frowns immediately)  Och, well, as a Highland chieftain, I’ll no’ be speaking ill of a lady.  A man has a reputation to keep, see you?  I will say I didn’t appreciate her writing me into a series that made my two greatest foes into heroes.  Especially as I was the last hero to receive a book.  At times, it was right painful watching my enemies swaggering about, winning their ladies’ hearts, and reaping so much glory.

Dev:  (glances at me with a really evil smile)  She did make you wait a good long while, didn’t she?  Tossing your heroine, Marjory ~ Lady Norn ~ Mackintosh, into your path in book one, Sins of a Highland Devil, and then not letting you have her until now.  Cruel, that was.  (nods her head, sympathetically)

Alasdair:  That wasn’t the half of what she did to me.  Here I thought I could use the time between books to woo Norn and perhaps even seduce her. (he glances at me, as if he expects me to be shocked)  At the least, I would’ve enjoyed stealing a few long, deep kisses.  But nae, what does our Lady Scribe do?

Sent me away, she did.  Wriggled her pen and made me see that my galleys were getting old and that I needed a new, stout warring ship.  Freshly-made, sleek, and swift, the likes of which required me to set off on a long journey to a shipbuilder in Inverness.

Then, when I would’ve returned to my beloved Glen of Many Legends, she gave me business to attend along the way, aye keeping me busy.

Norn thought I’d forgotten her, which I’ll admit I tried to do.  So when our Lady Scribe finally was ready to write our story, Norn was more than a little disgruntled with me.  Truth be told, she was furious.  All that because of our Lady Scribe.  She claimed her editor would fuss if we weren’t at odds.

Dev:  (pats his arm, commiserating)  I can assure you she’s done worse to other heroes.  Indeed, I’m thinking she gave you quite the grand entrance at one point in your book, then when you defended Lady Marjory, oops, I mean your beloved Norn, against a pack of ravening Vikings.

See here, how proud and braw she wrote you…

A strange silence fell across the strand as the ranks of spear-carrying warriors parted to allow one tall, stern-faced man to stride into view.

It was Alasdair.

Marjory’s breath caught, her heart slamming against her ribs.  Not since the Glen of Many Legend’s trial by combat had he looked so fierce.  Every inch a great warlord and hero, his hand rested on his sword hilt and he scowled his displeasure as he looked up and down the phalanx of Northmen.  He’d clearly come to challenge them.

He’d slung his plaid over his broad, muscled shoulders and the day’s pale light glanced off the amber pommel-stone of his sword.  He appeared as much a lover of battle as Kendrew, his cold eyes and hard-set jaw warning he wasn’t a man to show mercy if pushed too far.

And this appeared to be such a time.

***

Now that was a worthy description of you, eh?  (Dev winks at him)

Alasdair:  (folds his arms, still looking none too pleased)  The lady plays favorites, Dev.  Surely even you will admit that?  Did you no’ see that she just had to include my arch-rival, Kendrew, in a scene that should have been all mine?

Dev:  Tsk, tsk.  (she wags a finger at him)  Kendrew is Norn’s brother.

Alasdair:  Aye, well, so he is.  (glances aside, his lips twitching)  I did manage to let him know what I think of him.  We bloodied a few pages, for sure.  (raises arms over head and cracks his knuckles)  A man needs a good fight now and then.  At least our Lady Scribe didn’t deny me that.

Dev:  (her demeanor turning innocent)  She gave you more than that, laddie.  There were times I saw smoke and flames rising from her keyboard, so heated were some of the scenes she penned for you and Lady Marjory.

Alasdair:  We’ll no’ be talking about those times.  (fixes Dev with his most stern, narrow-eyed look)  It’s bad enough our Lady Scribe’s readers will be privy to such things.  We’ll no’ be airing them here, on the Internet.

Dev:  Pity, that.  Readers would’ve surely enjoyed those scenes.  I did-

Alasdair:  They weren’t scenes, they were real.  And you are way too old to have been peeking at them.

Dev:  Humpf.  (flicks at her sleeve, pats her hair)  A lady is never too old for romance, and the ‘good bits.’  (smiles and preens a bit)  She did write you as an extraordinary hero.  Didn’t RT make you a K.I.S.S. Award Hero?  Now that, was something, eh?

Alasdair:  (actually blushes)  Aye, well.  I’ll no’ argue with you about that.  I’ve no’ wish to waken as a newt or toad on the morrow.  (that last, spoken under his breath)

Dev:  (cackles, looking pleased and proving she heard him)  I save such delights as toad-and-newt spells for our Lady Scribe’s enemies.  You’ve naught to worry about, laddie.  Long as you continue to keep Lady Marjory happy, even after the last page of your book.

Alasdair:  (stands taller, puts back his shoulders)  That I shall do.  Beyond the book’s end and for all my days.  Even after them, truth be told.

Dev:  (she nods, glances at me)  Then all is good.

Alasdair:  So it is.  And I’m away now, back to the Glen of Many Legends and my Norn.  I dinnae much care for these modern times.  Readers wishing to see more of me can buy our Lady Scribe’s book.  I’d rather entertain them there than here in a place I can scarce pronounce, the In-ter-net.  My Highlands are a much finer place, for sure!

Sue-Ellen here (aka Lady Scribe):  And so Alasdair strides from my office, disappearing back into his book, or I should say into the Highland mist.  Devorgilla vanishes, too.  But she leaves in swirl of blue sparkles, a whiff of peat smoke and clean, cold air lingering in her wake.

As I’m on my own again, I hope you’ve enjoyed visiting with old Dev and Alasdair.  Thank you so much for joining me to celebrate this new release.  WendyK and April, hugs and love to you both for inviting me.  I loved being here.  And I know Devorgilla and Alasdair did, too.  (wink, wink)

Wishing everyone Highland Magic!

#GIVEAWAY AND #VISIT WITH HISTORICAL ROMANCE AUTHOR, GLYNNIS CAMPBELL…

MBA&M IS PROUD TO PRESENT….

HISTORICAL ROMANCE AUTHOR….

GLYNNIS CAMPBELL,AUTHOR OF “THE SHIPWRECK”!

TheShipwreckFINAL

SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO,WELCOME GLYNNIS!!

Glynnis CampbellMBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about Glynnis Campbell they may not know.

GC:  First of all, thanks so much for hosting me today!  I love My Book Addiction readers.  For those who don’t know me yet, I’ve written books under three pen names: Glynnis Campbell, Sarah McKerrigan, and Kira Morgan.  My husband tells people he’s on his third wife!  I’ve had a bunch of offbeat careers—I had my own ballet studio when I was 18, I wrote musical score for science films, I was in an all-girl rock band on CBS Records, and I still do voiceovers.  I’ve done voices for “The Maxx” animated series for MTV, “Star Wars” audio adventures, “JumpStart 1st Grade” software, and “Starcraft” and “Diablo” video games, and I’m planning to do my own audiobooks this year!

MBA&M: What do you feel is the allure of writing about the Dark Ages and Vikings?

GC:  I wrote THE SHIPWRECK because I wanted an origin novella for my Scots medieval trilogy, The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch, and in my mind, the sisters came from a long line of strong women.  The first people to live in Scotland were the Picts, so-called because of the blue pictures they tattooed on their bodies.  Around the time of THE SHIPWRECK, the Vikings had begun to invade and settle Pictland, so there was an intermingling of the cultures.  Their societies, their legends, and their designs began to merge, creating the foundation for what we think of as Celtic.  Vikings also brought to the early Scots the idea that men and women should have an equal hand in government, which became the perfect beginning for my empowered Rivenloch heroines.

MBA&M: Where did the idea of a shipwrecked Viking come from?TheShipwreckFINAL

GC:  I’m often inspired by “what if” ideas.  In the case of THE SHIPWRECK, I started thinking about invading Vikings and how people lived in terror of these giants from the North who arrived with stealth and in great numbers, attacking with ruthless aggression.  But what if, I wondered, an invading longship became shipwrecked, leaving only one Viking survivor washed up on shore?  Suddenly, the tables would be turned.  The invader would become a victim, completely at the mercy of whoever stumbled upon him.  Of course, I instantly knew it would have to be the heroine who stumbled upon him!

MBA&M:  What was your favorite part of writing “The Shipwreck”?  What was the worst part?

GC:  I’d have to say my favorite part was the research!  I have a Danish friend who took me to Denmark to stay with her family for a month.  We scoured Viking museums, saw a Viking play, visited ancient Viking settlements, ate Viking food, drank Viking beer, spoke to Viking reenactors, attended a Viking festival, and even sailed a Viking longship on a fjord!  The worst part of writing THE SHIPWRECK was keeping my heroine Avril’s little daughter from stealing the scenes!  Four-year-old Kimbery was a delight to write, but she kept getting in the way of the romance…much like real children.

MBA&M:  Most authors talk about the main characters, but we would like to talk about a couple of the secondary characters:  Who stands out the most as a secondary character, both male and female?  Why?  Tell us a little about them, and will they eventually have a story of their own?

GC:
The heroine’s half-Viking little girl, Kimbery, is really the matchmaker of THE SHIPWRECK.  She’s the first one to see past the hero’s frown and ferocity to the broken man within.  It’s her innocent view of Brandr that finally convinces Avril to move past her own damage and to look at him with an open heart.  The other secondary character is one I put into every book I write—someone named “Campbell” in honor of my husband.  This time I’ve given the ancient name, “Caimbeul,” to Kimbery’s sheep!

MBA&M:  Tell our readers what scene stands out the most in your mind or was your favorite scene.

GC:  I enjoyed writing the scene where Brandr the hero is recounting a Viking saga to the heroine’s little girl.  Though he seems to be simply telling Kimbery a story, he’s secretly sending Avril a don’t-mess-with-me-I’m-a-Viking message, while Avril, determined to ignore his threat, is sending a silent but pointed you-don’t-scare-me-I-have-you-on-a-leash message back.  It was fun to write a scene where the unspoken subtext was just as powerful as the spoken words.

TheShipwreckFINALMBA&M:  In five words or less, describe your writing style.  And describe “The Shipwreck” in five words or less.

GC:  My writing style:  Exciting historical action-adventure romance!  THE SHIPWRECK: Pictish princess captures Viking castaway.

MBA&M:  Thank you so much, Glynnis, for spending time with us and our readers today.  What a pleasure to have you with us!  Now, please tell our readers where they can find you and where “The Shipwreck” is available?

GC:  Thank you for letting me introduce my new novella, THE SHIPWRECK!  Be sure to enter to win one of three free ebooks, and I look forward to visiting again!

TheShipwreckFINAL

Blurb for THE SHIPWRECK:(from the author)

When his wife and children die, Viking marauder Brandr has nothing left to live for, so he sails away on one final voyage.  A storm at sea leaves him shipwrecked, alone, and barely alive on a foreign coastline.  Along the Pictish shore, Avril, a warrior maid and the victim of a Viking berserker, banished from her ancestral home of Rivenloch to a seaside cottage, dreams of the day she’ll raise her sword, take back the castle that is rightfully hers, and find her half-Viking daughter a proper father.  Discovering a broad-shouldered, fair-haired, broken castaway washed up on her beach among the wreckage of his longship, she takes him captive and binds him in chains.  She refuses to be a Viking’s victim again…never imagining that soon her fiercest enemy will earn her trust, invade her heart, and enthrall her senses.

GIVEAWAY WITH MEDIEVAL SCOTTISH AUTHOR,MARY WINE,” THE HIGHLANDER’S PRIZE” by Mary Wine!

SOURCEBOOKS AND MY BOOK ADDICTION AND MORE PRESENTS…..

Image

Good morning Mary, and welcome to My Book Addiction and More!

Thank you so much! It’s a blast to be invited over to chat about my newest baby.

MBA&M: For the readers, who may not know you, please give them some insight into Mary Wine?

MARY: I’m engaged in a constant battle to catch my own tail. Hummm, maybe that isn’t the best way to put it. I am a writer of romance novels and I love it! For the past couple of years, I’ve been working on steamy historicals. This month, The Highlander’s Prize is releasing. It’s the first book in a new saga, set in the era of the war of the roses.

MBA&M: What do you feel the appeal for Highlanders is in today market?

MARY: The Celtic people are amazing. They survive in a place that is as rugged as it is beautiful. Their culture is old and their land mystical. The Highlanders I write about are men devoted to their honor and to the well-being of their people. What girl doesn’t dream of a man who might aim some of that focus toward her? The reality of life is often in conflict with what our inner princess longs for. When I pen a Highlander tale, I’m reaching into my own heart to find that hero I’d like to have sweep me off my feet.

MBA&M: How much research goes into writing a historical romance set in Scotland?

MARY: Research is a state of mind for me. I adore history. I don’t think there is a history channel special I haven’t adored and prowling around old buildings is my idea of a fun afternoon. When it comes to my books, I really do like to get the setting correct. I want my Highlander novels to be more than just the hero and his castle. There were just as many stresses in these times as now and I believe that enriches the story.

MBA&M: Have you been to Scotland, if so what is some of your favorite memories?

MARY: Actually no. But it is on the bucket list that I plan to start on as soon as the nest is empty.

MBA&M: Of all your books, which is your favorite and why?

MARY: I’m always in love with my new babies but there is a spot in my heart for my first book, Dream Shadow. It isn’t on sale at the moment but it is very dear to my heart. In August my newest endeavor will launch, a three book Steam Punk series that I am having a lot of fun writing. But even after that, my Highlanders really hold onto a large section of my heart.

MBA&M:Who is your favorite character in “THE HIGHLANDER’S PRIZE”?

MARY: Broen, my hero. He’s devoted to his people but drawn to Clarissa. What fascinates me about him is his patience. He was a little bit Ninja there, just placing himself in front of her time and again until she yielded.

MBA&M: If you could step into a book and that world, where would it be? Even if it is not one of yours.

MARY: Oh my, what a question. Shall I say Narnia or just expose my inner geek and say Earth of Star Trek? I’ll tell you this, wherever I go, there is going to be high teck medical stuff…no more dentist drills for me!

MBA&M: When you do a series, do you have each book in mind before you start writing or do they come after?

MARY: When I begin I always have the next book in mind, which lasts exactly until I write book one and some other character decided to hijack the next book. This leads to the most interesting conversations with my editors.

____________

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where “THE HIGHLANDER’S PRIZE” is available?

Mary:As I’m writing this, I’m all packed and ready to depart for the Romantic Times Book Lovers convention. I will be signing at the book signing on Saturday.

Mary, do you have anything else to add?

Mary:I want to wish everyone a wonderful spring. Get out and catch some sun, feed some ducks and cheer for your favorite team! Thank you so much for reading and please drop by my Facebook page for information and new contests. Cheers.

GIVEAWAY AND VISIT WITH GLYNNIS CAMPBELL,”PASSION’S EXILE”…

IT IS OUR PLEASURE TO WELCOME BACK HISTORICAL ROMANCE AUTHOR, GLYNNIS CAMPBELL TO MY BOOK ADDICTION AND MORE TODAY!!

WELCOME GLYNNIS!!

Good morning Glynnis and welcome to My Book Addiction and More…

MBA&M: Tell our readers a little about Glynnis Campbell and your other pen names?

GC: First, thank you for the invitation—I love talking to fellow reading addicts.  Most people are surprised to find out about my checkered past!  In addition to romance writing, I’ve been a ballerina, a film score composer, a singer in The Pinups—an all-girl CBS rock band, a typographer, and a voice-over actress for MTV’s “The Maxx” animated series and the video games Diablo and Starcraft.  I’ve been writing historical romance for a little over a decade as Glynnis Campbell, Sarah McKerrigan, and Kira Morgan.  I live in L.A., and I’m married to a rock star (but I grew up in a little town with no stoplights, and my rock star husband was my high school sweetheart)!

MBA&M: What made you decide to write historical romances? Especially, “Passion’s Exile”?

GC: I’ve had a lifelong love for towering castles, trusty swords, and knights (and damsels) in shining armor. As a girl, I read Howard Pyle’s King Arthur and Robin Hood books till they were in tatters. History lets me create larger-than-life characters, and I love doing research. I was inspired to write “Passion’s Exile” when my kids were studying “TheCanterburyTales” in school. I decided it would be fun to set that kind of traveling-in-an-entourage story inScotlandand work a romance into the journey.

MBA&M: Have you always wanted to be an author and what made you want to be an author?

GC: Writing always came naturally to me, but I never really considered it as a career option (possibly because I was busy being a ballerina and a rock star?) until I’d finished writing three books and decided to share them.  What keeps me writing is insatiable curiosity about the world and the past and a desire to go on adventures with my characters and my readers.

MBA&M: What are the challenges in writing with two other pen names?

GC: My husband tells people he’s on his third wife.  Seriously, the hardest part about having pen names is losing touch with loyal fans.  No matter how many announcements I make, there are always readers who don’t realize I’m still writing, just under a different pen name, and I know they’ve been left behind.  It was the publisher’s choice to give me a nom de plume, and though it was with good intentions, I’m very glad to be able to return to my real name.

MBA&M: What where the challenges in writing “Passion’s Exile”?

GC: I almost painted myself into a corner with “Passion’s Exile”!  I placed my hero and heroine, Blade and Rose, in the middle of a pilgrimage with twenty other people, staying at male-female segregated manor houses.  Blade has a faithful sidekick, and Rose cares for a crippled falcon.  Finding a time and place for them to be alone to, ahem, rendezvous was almost as frustrating for me as it was for them!

MBA&M: How do you feel your writing has changed in the years since you wrote your first novel?

GC: My writing has become more fast-paced, because reading has become more fast-paced.  Readers are very good at painting mental pictures from a few well-placed brush strokes—they don’t really need or want to know where every tapestry, flagon, and sword was manufactured—so there’s less need to fill in all the blanks for them and more time to spend on the action and dialogue.  I’m also writing more accessibly, I think, without sacrificing authenticity, by using a bit less dialect, which most people find difficult to read.

MBA&M: Out of all the books you have written, including your other pen names, what is your favorite and why?

GC: This is truly as hard as picking out your favorite child!  Honestly, it’s usually whatever I’m working on at the moment, and currently I’m very excited about “Passion’s Exile.”  Blade, a self-exiled mercenary, is one of the darkest heroes I’ve written, and pitting sweet, fresh-faced, convent-bound Rose against him was endlessly entertaining.  It was also a treat to have a big ensemble of colorful supporting characters to write for.

MBA&M: If you could step into one of your books, which would it be and why?

GC: I almost DID step into “Passion’s Exile”!  I considered making the heroes’ journey—a 10-day pilgrimage from Stirling toSt. Andrews—for research.  It didn’t quite work out (though my author friend Lauren Royal and I commandeeredRoslinCastlefor a few days, which was a blast).  I think it would be fun to tag along as one of the pilgrims, walking through the beautiful Scots countryside, staying in medieval manor houses, sampling hard cider and meat pies, telling stories, and watching Rose and Blade’s romance unfold.

MBA&M: Which character in “Passion’s Exile” do you think you most identify with? Why?

GC: I most relate to Blade’s sidekick, Wilham.  I think probably all of us have a friend or relative who’s on a self-destructive path, and there’s nothing we can do for them except give them our love and support.  That’s what Wilham does for Blade.  Though he gets frustrated with Blade’s self-loathing, he is loyal to a fault and stands by him through thick and thin.

MBA&M: Now, Glynnis, please tell our readers where to find you, your other pen names and where to find “Passion’s Exile”?

GC: “Passion’s Exile” is available as an ebook now at Amazon and Barnes & Noble!  And watch for new ebook Author’s Editions of my backlist—My Champion, My Warrior, My Hero, Lady Danger, Captive Heart, Knight’s Prize, and Danger’s Kiss—coming soon.  If you don’t have an e-reader, don’t despair.  You can download FREE Kindle and NOOK software from Amazon and Barnes & Noble that allows you to read books on your computer or smartphone.

Glynnis, do you have anything else to add?

GC: The single best way an author can succeed is through word-of-mouth and recommendations from friends.  I’m so grateful to avid readers like you at My Book Addiction who spread the good word and allow me to continue writing and taking you along on my adventures!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit with My Book Addiction and More today!!
