THIS HIGHLAND LAIRD WON’T BOW TO THE CROWN

Laird Ruairi Sutherland refuses to send his only son away to be educated by the English. And he most definitely will not appear in Edinburgh to pay homage to a liege who has no respect for Scotland or its people. So he does what any laird would do―he lies to the king. The last thing Ruairi expects is a beautiful English governess to appear on his doorstep.

BUT THIS LADY SPY MIGHT MAKE HIM…

Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a seasoned spy who is sent to the savage Highlands to uncover a nefarious plot against the Crown. Playing the part of an English governess―a job easier said than done―she infiltrates the home of Laird Ruairi Sutherland, a suspected conspirator.

IF SHE DOESN’T BETRAY HIM FIRST

Ravenna soon discovers that the only real threat Sutherland poses is to her heart. But will the proud Highland laird ever forgive her when he discovers the woman he loves is an English spy?

#GIVEAWAY AND #VISIT WITH VICTORIA ROBERTS,”X MARKS THE SCOT”…

MBA&M IS SO EXCITED TO HAVE HISTORICAL SCOTTISH ROMANCE AUTHOR…

**VICTORIA ROBERTS**

~ PRESENTING ~~

“X MARKS THE SCOT”

X Marks the Scot Final

It’s wonderful to be back at My Book Addiction. Thanks so much for having me.

You are so welcome, we love having you! Thanks for stopping by!

So without further ado, here is VICTORIA ROBERTS…..

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little about yourself, for those who may not know you?

VICTORIA: I’m a hard-working mother of two, married to my own knight for almost twenty years now, and author of Scottish historical romance. Home is in western Pennsylvania, but my heart is in the Highlands. Pun intended.

MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind X MARKS THE SCOT?X Marks the Scot Final

VICTORIA: My darned muse likes to jump ahead. X Marks the Scot was in the making while I was writing Temptation in a Kilt. Declan MacGregor’s character was loosely based on Ian Somerhalder’s character on The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore. Although Declan sometimes takes it a bit more over-the-top than Mr. Salvatore, deep down, the man has a big heart and I think readers will recognize that, too.

MBA&M: What do you think the allure of Scottish warriors, Highlanders and Scotland have on readers today?

VICTORIA: The allure of any book is a means of escape. For me, it’s the bonny Highlands. Who wouldn’t want to stroll along the heather-draped landscape? The countryside alone is breathtaking. Add a few Highland lairds in kilts and a couple of feisty heroines and you have a steamy romance of epic proportions.

MBA&M: Give our readers some insight into writing an authentic Scottish tale.

VICTORIA: Kilts. Did I happen to mention kilts? All jesting aside, Scottish people are proud, determined. Honor and chivalry is a must. I try to incorporate some of that beautiful Scottish brogue as well as add a wee bit of Gaelic flair. I think readers appreciate the time it takes to do that and it makes the story a bit more realistic.

MBA&M: Now, let’s get to some tough stuff, how hard is it to write the sensual scenes in your stories?

VICTORIA: I think every author has to do what they’re comfortable with. X Marks the Scot had sensual scenes that were a bit more explicit than Temptation in a Kilt, but that’s to be expected when you’re writing about a Highland rogue such as Declan MacGregor. But I wouldn’t put anything in the book that I wasn’t comfortable writing or reading about myself. As far as the difficulty writing the scenes, it comes naturally after a while, especially when your hero only thinks about the lasses.

MBA&M: Can you give our readers some background on this series?

VICTORIA: The Bad Boys of the Highlands series follows Laird Ciaran MacGregor, his brother Declan, and Laird Alexander MacDonell who are driving King James crazy with their constant clan battles and uproarious way of life.

MBA&M: What are three words you would use to describe your writing style?

VICTORIA: Passionate. Heartfelt. Adventure.

Thanks so much for having me today.

Thank you, Victoria, for spending with us and your passionate Scottish Warrior!!

X Marks the Scot FinalX Marks the Scot Blurb:

He was a Highland Rogue—Wicked with a Bow and Arrow and Just as Wicked with the Ladies.

Declan MacGregor hadn’t a care in the world beyond finding a soft bed and a willing woman…until he had to escort Lady Liadain Campbell to the English court. The woman needles him at every turn, but he can’t just abandon her to that vipers’ nest without protection.

She Never Asked for a Bodyguard…

Liadain wasn’t thrilled to be left in the care of her clan’s archrival. It was as if the man never had a lady tell him no before! And yet as whispers of treason swirl through the court and the threat of danger grows even sharper, her bitter enemy soon becomes the only one she can trust…

~~SO,WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, HERE IS THE AMAZING AND TALENTED: SUE-ELLEN WELFONDER and an interview with Alasdair led by Devorgilla…..~~

a - se - my favorite placeI’m so excited to be here today to celebrate the release of Seduction of a Highland Warrior, which concludes my Highland Warriors trilogy.  WendyK and I go way back and so I wanted to do something special for this visit.

Something fresh and fun that hasn’t appeared anywhere else.

Many readers will have already seen the book’s blurb and reviews.  Perhaps you’ve seen excerpts.  As Barnes and Noble shipped weeks early, maybe you’ve even read the book.

I’ve been writing for many years, so you’ll likely also have seen my answers to the usual Q&As:  “Why do you love Scotland?”  (Scottish family background, a lifetime of visiting Scotland, and why not? There’s no place more special.)  “Why do you write Scottish-set books?”  (See above.  Or know that I believe writers should only write what they’re passionate about, otherwise the words are just ink on the page.)  “Why do you think Highlanders are so sexy?”  (If you don’t know, you’re dead or hopeless.)  Kilt or burr?  (The latter because it remains to thrill and melt you after the kilt is removed.)  Do you eat Haggis?  (Yes, and I LOVE it.)  And so on and so forth.

So because this is a Big Day, I’m skipping the usual and kicking it up a notch by having Devorgilla, one of my all-time favorite characters, interview Alasdair MacDonald, the hero of Seduction of a Highland Warrior.

Nothing like letting a hot Highland hero speak for himself, h’mmm?

And who better than old Dev to ask the questions we’d love answered?

To those of you not familiar, Devorgilla is a cailleach.  A meddlesome but well-meaning crone who wields mischief and magic in many of my books.

Before I let her bump me off the page, here’s the official series description:

Highland Warriors Trilogy

Three proud warriors locked in a struggle for victory.
Three beguiling women united in their vow to restore peace.

And my own one-sentence summary for the book…

Seduction of a Highland Warrior:A - SE - Seduction of a Highland Warrior Final

A proud Highland chieftain returns to his beloved glen only to find that he still desires the woman he’s tried to forget and that claiming her is more likely to destroy them than quench their forbidden passion.

A - Devorgilla-1Now I’m backing away because I can see Devorgilla stepping into my office, her gait most determined for a woman of her great age.  She has a wicked glint in her eye, so I’m sure she has some tough questions for poor, unsuspecting Alasdair.

Dev:  (rubbing her hands)  So-o-o, laddie!  If there be aught you could say to our Lady Scribe, what would it be?

Alasdair:  (frowns immediately)  Och, well, as a Highland chieftain, I’ll no’ be speaking ill of a lady.  A man has a reputation to keep, see you?  I will say I didn’t appreciate her writing me into a series that made my two greatest foes into heroes.  Especially as I was the last hero to receive a book.  At times, it was right painful watching my enemies swaggering about, winning their ladies’ hearts, and reaping so much glory.

Dev:  (glances at me with a really evil smile)  She did make you wait a good long while, didn’t she?  Tossing your heroine, Marjory ~ Lady Norn ~ Mackintosh, into your path in book one, Sins of a Highland Devil, and then not letting you have her until now.  Cruel, that was.  (nods her head, sympathetically)

Alasdair:  That wasn’t the half of what she did to me.  Here I thought I could use the time between books to woo Norn and perhaps even seduce her. (he glances at me, as if he expects me to be shocked)  At the least, I would’ve enjoyed stealing a few long, deep kisses.  But nae, what does our Lady Scribe do?

Sent me away, she did.  Wriggled her pen and made me see that my galleys were getting old and that I needed a new, stout warring ship.  Freshly-made, sleek, and swift, the likes of which required me to set off on a long journey to a shipbuilder in Inverness.

Then, when I would’ve returned to my beloved Glen of Many Legends, she gave me business to attend along the way, aye keeping me busy.

Norn thought I’d forgotten her, which I’ll admit I tried to do.  So when our Lady Scribe finally was ready to write our story, Norn was more than a little disgruntled with me.  Truth be told, she was furious.  All that because of our Lady Scribe.  She claimed her editor would fuss if we weren’t at odds.

Dev:  (pats his arm, commiserating)  I can assure you she’s done worse to other heroes.  Indeed, I’m thinking she gave you quite the grand entrance at one point in your book, then when you defended Lady Marjory, oops, I mean your beloved Norn, against a pack of ravening Vikings.

See here, how proud and braw she wrote you…

A strange silence fell across the strand as the ranks of spear-carrying warriors parted to allow one tall, stern-faced man to stride into view.

It was Alasdair.

Marjory’s breath caught, her heart slamming against her ribs.  Not since the Glen of Many Legend’s trial by combat had he looked so fierce.  Every inch a great warlord and hero, his hand rested on his sword hilt and he scowled his displeasure as he looked up and down the phalanx of Northmen.  He’d clearly come to challenge them.

He’d slung his plaid over his broad, muscled shoulders and the day’s pale light glanced off the amber pommel-stone of his sword.  He appeared as much a lover of battle as Kendrew, his cold eyes and hard-set jaw warning he wasn’t a man to show mercy if pushed too far.

And this appeared to be such a time.

***

Now that was a worthy description of you, eh?  (Dev winks at him)

Alasdair:  (folds his arms, still looking none too pleased)  The lady plays favorites, Dev.  Surely even you will admit that?  Did you no’ see that she just had to include my arch-rival, Kendrew, in a scene that should have been all mine?

Dev:  Tsk, tsk.  (she wags a finger at him)  Kendrew is Norn’s brother.

Alasdair:  Aye, well, so he is.  (glances aside, his lips twitching)  I did manage to let him know what I think of him.  We bloodied a few pages, for sure.  (raises arms over head and cracks his knuckles)  A man needs a good fight now and then.  At least our Lady Scribe didn’t deny me that.

Dev:  (her demeanor turning innocent)  She gave you more than that, laddie.  There were times I saw smoke and flames rising from her keyboard, so heated were some of the scenes she penned for you and Lady Marjory.

Alasdair:  We’ll no’ be talking about those times.  (fixes Dev with his most stern, narrow-eyed look)  It’s bad enough our Lady Scribe’s readers will be privy to such things.  We’ll no’ be airing them here, on the Internet.

Dev:  Pity, that.  Readers would’ve surely enjoyed those scenes.  I did-

Alasdair:  They weren’t scenes, they were real.  And you are way too old to have been peeking at them.

Dev:  Humpf.  (flicks at her sleeve, pats her hair)  A lady is never too old for romance, and the ‘good bits.’  (smiles and preens a bit)  She did write you as an extraordinary hero.  Didn’t RT make you a K.I.S.S. Award Hero?  Now that, was something, eh?

Alasdair:  (actually blushes)  Aye, well.  I’ll no’ argue with you about that.  I’ve no’ wish to waken as a newt or toad on the morrow.  (that last, spoken under his breath)

Dev:  (cackles, looking pleased and proving she heard him)  I save such delights as toad-and-newt spells for our Lady Scribe’s enemies.  You’ve naught to worry about, laddie.  Long as you continue to keep Lady Marjory happy, even after the last page of your book.

Alasdair:  (stands taller, puts back his shoulders)  That I shall do.  Beyond the book’s end and for all my days.  Even after them, truth be told.

Dev:  (she nods, glances at me)  Then all is good.

Alasdair:  So it is.  And I’m away now, back to the Glen of Many Legends and my Norn.  I dinnae much care for these modern times.  Readers wishing to see more of me can buy our Lady Scribe’s book.  I’d rather entertain them there than here in a place I can scarce pronounce, the In-ter-net.  My Highlands are a much finer place, for sure!

Sue-Ellen here (aka Lady Scribe):  And so Alasdair strides from my office, disappearing back into his book, or I should say into the Highland mist.  Devorgilla vanishes, too.  But she leaves in swirl of blue sparkles, a whiff of peat smoke and clean, cold air lingering in her wake.

As I’m on my own again, I hope you’ve enjoyed visiting with old Dev and Alasdair.  Thank you so much for joining me to celebrate this new release.  WendyK and April, hugs and love to you both for inviting me.  I loved being here.  And I know Devorgilla and Alasdair did, too.  (wink, wink)

Wishing everyone Highland Magic!

Sue-Ellen Welfonder

GIVEAWAY AND VISIT WITH SCOTTISH-MEDIEVAL AUTHOR SUE-ELLEN WELFONDER….

MY BOOK ADDICTION AND MORE PRESENTS…..

SCOTTISH- MEDIEVAL AUTHOR SUE-ELLEN WELFONDER!!

What an honor and pleasure to have you with My Book Addiction and More today!!

Good morning Sue-Ellen!!

MBA&M: Please tell those readers who may not know you, a little about Sue-Ellen Welfonder?

SE:  Thank you so much for inviting me.  I’m delighted to be here.

For readers who don’t know me, here’s a mini-bio that sums me up pretty well.

Former flight attendant, Sue-Ellen Welfonder, has three grand passions: Scotland, the paranormal, and dogs.  All can be found in her romances, Scottish medievals and Scottish-set paranormals written as Allie Mackay.  Of Scottish descent, she lived in Europe for fifteen years and still makes frequent visits to Scotland.

I’ll add that I love all animals, not just dogs.  I hate shopping, rarely watch TV, and enjoy living quietly.

MBA&M: What is the allure of writing Scottish medieval romances?

SE:  Writing Scottish medieval romance is a natural extension of who I am.  I’m of Scottish descent, so was raised to love Scotland and appreciate the culture and tradition.  My passion for Scotland has always been there.  Likewise my interest in medieval history.  These passions were there long before I even considered writing and they will continue to be a part of life when I no longer write.

 Sue-Ellen’s  favorite place!

(from Sue-Ellen)

In general, I believe Scottish medieval romance appeals because of the beauty of the land, the deep and poignant history, and the proud, brave men and women who define Highland Scotland.  Few places offer so much to love, admire, and fire the blood.  All that combines to make Scottish romance popular with readers and the many authors who write it.  Even other genres, such as urban fantasy, often have a hero connected to the Highlands.  Everyone loves Highlanders.  I don’t need to mention the accent, the kilts, the pipes, the castles and mist, the heather and moors, etc, etc.  What’s not to love?

MBA&M: You also write as an alter ego, Allie Mackay, what are the challenges in writing with an alter ego?

SE:  The writing itself is a pleasure.  I love my Allie Mackay titles and have so much fun working on them.  The challenges are in the logistics.  It can be trying to juggle dual deadlines.  For example, it never fails that when I am in the worst deadline heat for one publisher, the other will send work that also needs doing yesterday.  Deadline looming on one book?  Be assured, major revisions for the other title will arrive and have the same due date as the other book’s deadline.  Or a deadline will fall on the release date of the other title, causing all kinds of fun with deadline work, plus release date promo work.

MBA&M: The third in the “Highland Warriors series” will soon be released, what is the release date, and what made you decide to write this series of three proud Highlanders and the three strong lasses that win their hearts?

SE:  Alasdair’s book, Seduction of a Highland Warrior, will be out later this year, available in Dec.  I decided to write my Highland Warriors trilogy because I’d written books for all the characters in my MacKenzie series and had no desire to write stories for Duncan and Sir M’s grandchildren.  I did not want to show either of these well-loved heroes as grandfathers, as would then have been necessary.  So I needed a new series.

Proud Highlanders and their deep love of the land always inspire me, so it wasn’t hard to come up with the trilogy.  And (my readers surely know this) I really love strong heroines.  I can’t abide weepy, sobbing women in real life and certainly don’t want to write them.  Readers can always expect to find heroines with backbone and spirit in my books.  I enjoy writing them that way and watching them come to life on the page as they stand tall and go after their dreams.

MBA&M: If you could step into one of your books which one would it be and why?

SE:  My Allie Mackay title, Some Like It Kilted.  It remains my personal favorite under both names.  The American heroine is the only heroine I’ve ever written who didn’t start out loving Scotland.  Changing her mind about a place she was determined to dislike was lots of fun.  Scotland won her heart big time (obviously), as did the hero, Bran.  He’s another reason I love this book so much.  He’s probably my favorite of all my heroes.  He’s big, gruff, and rough around the edges, has a heart of gold, the sexiest burr, and he loves dogs.  He also has a sense of humor and gives great neck nuzzles.  My kind of man.

Also, the book’s setting, Barra in the Hebrides, is one of my favorite places in Scotland.  So I would not mind slipping into the pages of Some Like It Kilted and ending up there for good, like the heroine, Mindy.

MBA&M: If you can, tell our readers about your next project(s)?

SE:  I am superstitious about talking about upcoming projects until close to the release date.  I will say that I am working on a new four-book series (Scottish medieval) that is a spin-off on my Highland Warriors trilogy.  These four books have the most roguish ‘bad boy’ heroes I have ever written.  They are handfuls and so much fun.  Likewise, I am just starting a new Allie Mackay series (Scottish-set paranormals) that blends old and new characters.  I really love these books.

Ardvreck Getting Closer Still!

(from Sue-Ellen)

MBA&M: We at My Book Addiction and More know you enjoy Scotland, when will you be going back?

SE:  Good question.  For years, I visited Scotland each autumn.  I’d love to fly over in mid-Oct.  But my little dog is now 13 ½ and he has a few health issues.  He’s also become needy in age.  I am no longer comfortable leaving him.  I didn’t travel during his first year as he needed me then, too.  Now, much as I love Scotland, I love my dog more.  So we’ll see.  I might pop over for a brief visit, but it all depends on how Em is doing at the time.

 Kilt Rock Skye!

(from Sue-Ellen)

MBA&M: Who would you say your hero/heroine is,be it person, animal,or character from one of your books? Why?

SE:  My greatest hero is Robert Bruce.  I’ve loved and admired him as far back as I can remember.  The reasons are obvious as he was Scotland’s greatest hero king.  Yet when you research him in depth, you discover the amazing man he was as well.  He truly was one of those larger-than-life people who stand heads and shoulders over the rest of us.  Men and women alike loved him, his enemies respected him, and his passion and devotion to Scotland still shines brightly today, many centuries later.  Some of my most memorable trips to Scotland have been those dedicated to visiting sites tied to his life and career.

MBA&M: Sue-Ellen, please tell our readers where to find you and where they can find your wonderful books?

SE:  Readers can visit my website: www.welfonder.com to stay updated on releases, find a printable book list, check series order, and find excerpts and buying links.  They can also join my mailing list: http://welfonder.com/mailing-list/ (I do special giveaways for these readers.)

Sue-Ellen do you have anything else to add?

SE:  Just many thanks to My Book Addiction and More for inviting me to be here today.

I’ll give away a copy of my most recent release, Haunted Warrior, an Allie Mackay title.  International readers are welcome in the drawing. (See Below)

As always, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit with My Book Addiction and More and our readers today!!!

Kendra Chase is exhausted from her work as a ghost whisperer, so she’s been looking forward to her vacation in Edinburgh. But work awaits her as the tiny fishing village is being excavated, and supernatural uprisings have been reported.

Graeme MacGrath knows the source of the psychic trouble. The excavation is disrupting the protective veil between this world and darker, more ancient ones. He hates to admit it but he will need the fetching Kendra and her paranormal abilities to save the town he loves from unspeakable evil.
