BLOG TOUR-MISTRESS SPY-PAMELA MINGLE with #Giveaway, #Excerpt + #review

Meet the Author:

Pamela Mingle is a former teacher and librarian who was fortunate enough to choose writing as a third career. Or maybe it chose her. 🙂 She loves to create romantic tales that play out against historical events and always includes some humor in her books.

Pam and her husband enjoy walking in the UK–even though she’s done her share of whining on those fifteen-mile days. The walking trips have been an ideal way to discover new settings for her books.

About the Book:

A determined sister . . .
Madeleine Vernon’s dreams should be filled with elegant gowns and marriageable men. Instead, she dreams of avenging her brother’s death. But when she’s captured by the queen’s men, she’s forced to become a spy by her mysterious yet undeniably attractive captor.
A rakish spy . . .
After years of working for his father in Queen Elizabeth’s service, Nicholas Ryder is close to going his own way. But now he’s got a feisty beauty he must protect or risk her execution as a traitor to the crown. She’s a distraction he can’t afford, but he also can’t stop thinking about her.
A dangerous lie . . .
It is Nicholas’s job to foil plots against Elizabeth, and he sends Maddy into a household of suspected traitors to garner what information she can. As the line between captor and prisoner blurs, deceit, betrayal, and desire become a perilous mix. Ultimately, Nicholas must decide whether duty to the queen is more important than winning Maddy’s heart.

EXCERPT 1, from Chapter One

February 1569

She charged into battle with the zeal of one who demands justice and will accept nothing less.

They had been riding all afternoon on the old Stanegate Highway, from Carlisle east toward Naworth Castle, where the rebels were mustering. There were five of them besides herself—two friends she had persuaded to join the fight and three others they had picked up along the way. It was a frigid February day, piercing deep to the bone with an unforgiving cold. When the beacons came into view at last, their flames a call to battle, she glanced at her companions triumphantly.

They scarcely had time to give their mounts a rest and let them graze and drink before the order was given to move out. She kept the bright red banners, adorned with white gryphons, in view and hoped her friends remained close by. There were infantry and horsemen as far as the eye could see, though they looked like a ragtag lot. Nobody in mail or armor. She rode on, keeping her eyes on the banners ahead, from time to time searching the crowd for her friends. But to no avail.

The queen’s forces assembled in the distance. It was almost as though they wished to sneak past. No judge of the difference between brilliant or foolhardy military strategies, she accepted chasing after an enemy who clearly did not wish to engage as part of a plan. Lord Dacre was their commander, and in her vengeful fervor she would follow him anywhere. On his orders, they gave chase until finally, circling ahead of the queen’s southern army, they lay in wait near the Gelt River where Hell Beck joined it.

In mere moments, her belief that justice would triumph shattered.

Hundreds of horsemen at the rear of the queen’s army began a vicious attack, pushing Dacre’s troops out onto the heath. She dismounted, electing to take her chances as one of the infantry. Within minutes, mayhem ensued. Mounted troops wielding lances made short work of the men, most of whom carried nothing more than dirks. A lucky few were armed with pikes. Arrows flew, and she ducked every time she saw a bow raised. But before long, the smoke from the harquebuses was so thick, she could see nothing, nor could she hear anything other than the screams and shouts of both the rebels and queen’s men. What a fool she’d been, expecting an orderly military action. She’d gotten chaos instead.

Their footmen broke through and tore into the rebels with pikes, and cavalrymen attacked with lances. She looked on helplessly as men around her were run through with rapiers or felled by blows to the head. Springing to her feet, she lunged onward, too fired up—and apparently too brainless—to sense the inevitability of the outcome, or even the extreme peril she was in.

Having removed her travel cloak, she shivered in her thin shirt and doublet. Neither did much to ward off the bone-chilling cold. Ahead, mist rose from the river like a curtain of gauze. She tripped over more than one lifeless body, both human and beast. Shouts of command and cries of the wounded were muted in the dense air. Clutching the handle of a dirk that had belonged to her brother, she longed for the chance to put it to use. If she could surprise one of the queen’s men, catch one of them unawares…a life for her brother’s life. That was all she wanted.

The wind rose, clearing the smoke. Glimpsing an opening, she plunged forward, straight toward a giant of a man wearing the queen’s badge and without a weapon to hand. She was ready for him. With an upward thrust, she aimed for his heart. But with one step back, he was out of reach. She was stabbing at the air. He brought a beefy fist down on her wrist and knocked the dirk out of her hand, then gave a low chuckle before grasping the back of her doublet and hoisting her a few feet off the ground. “God’s wounds, you’re no bigger than a wench,” he said.

“Because she is a wench, fool,” a second man said, stepping out of the darkness. This one wore a short beard. Or perhaps it was only stubble—she couldn’t tell in the dark. He reached down and picked up her dagger.

“We could have some fun with her, I’ll warrant,” the giant said. He still held her aloft as though she weighed no more than a cloth doll. While he mulled it over, she kicked him in the groin, as hard as she could while swaying in the air. He doubled over and dropped her, and the second man laughed. She leaped to her feet and ran.

Unfortunately, she managed only a few steps before an arm hard as stone and every bit as unyielding wrapped around her. It was the bearded man. The terror, the panic, all the unacknowledged dread she’d been holding inside now burst out in one long, agonized plea. “Let me go, I beg you. I have a family to look after.”

He snorted. “A bit late to think of that, is it not?” He ordered the giant to bind her hands behind her back, and they dragged her, one on each side, to an area where prisoners were being held, and dumped her to the cold ground. But not before they’d spotted the scabbard tied at her waist and relieved her of it.

The next day they marched to Carlisle Castle, and she, Madeleine Vernon, daughter of Philip and Blanche Vernon of Carlisle and sister of the executed Robert, found herself thrown into a dank, stinking cell, fit only for murderers, thieves, and rebels.

My thoughts

Mistress Spy by Pamela Mingle is a fast paced, page turning Elizabethan novel. When a line between prisoner and capitor become blurred, all bets are off.
With deceit, betrayal, and desire a perilous mix is created. Add in treason, danger, surprises, you have a definite page turner. Well crafted and well written with charming and engaging characters. The plot is intriguing, unpredictable and captivating. Twists and turns abound in MISTRESS SPY. What a brilliant and exciting story! There is some edge of your seat moments with a HEA. #NetGalley #MistressSpy

INTERVIEW with A.P. Aruna….

MBA&M: Nice to meet you,  Ms. Aruna, welcome to My Book Addiction and More.  Can you please tell our readers a bit about yourself?

I’m a Cambodian woman of mixed blood, married to an aspiring author, and of course he had something to do with my idea to write entertaining fiction. We live in a little green house in the countryside in southern Cambodia. No kids yet, but we’re working on it.

MBA&M: What was your inspiration for writing a Dark Erotic Thriller, set in a psychiatric hospital?

I read a book, The CIA’s Control of Candy Jones, by Donald Bain, and I thought this would make a good novel. Candy was a famous model in the 1940’s, a popular pinup girl second only to Betty Grable. She later ran a modeling agency and married a radio talk show host who soon began to notice that at times she seemed to be a totally different person. Through many sessions of hypnosis it was discovered that she had been a hypno-programmed spy who went on missions under an alter-ego called Arlene Grant. In other words she was a real life Manchurian Candidate.

MBA&M: How much research was entailed in writing a story about a “sensual maze of mind control and torture”?

Quite a bit, and I’m still not finished. The first book I read was by John Marks, The Search for the Manchurian Candidate: The CIA & Mind Control and I was becoming more convinced that all this stuff was real, I learned that these mind control experiments were being done in reputable hospitals by doctors and psychiatrists who were getting money from the CIA. Then I read Journey into Madness by Gordon Thomas which contained graphic descriptions of what they did to these poor souls. That’s where I got the idea of patients wearing helmets 24/7 with a tape playing the same message over and over again – it was actually true! Also, there are a lot of books out there by people who claim to have been victims of these experiments. Hallucinatory drugs, electroshock, and prolonged isolation in a dark room – these were some of the methods the hospitals used.

MBA&M: Who was your favorite character and why?

I got the most enjoyment writing Anisa, a real kick-ass b***h, a cold, calculating, and dangerous woman who outsmarts her adversaries and who is able to deal with any situation.

MBA&M: How did you decide the different personalities?

The CIA was looking for a perfect spy, one who would not reveal sensitive information, and who could perform nefarious tasks without remembering what they did, and that was the role assigned to Anisa. Cherry Cummins was the sex bait, a Mata Hari type who could be used to access Anisa’s targets, or trap powerful men into compromising situations for purposes of blackmail. Katrina, the main personality, is shy and introverted, almost boring; someone who could never be expected to behave out of the ordinary. And while she’s totally unaware she is leading alternate lives, these other characters are aspects of her own personality, although of course over-inflated. I think that most women (and men) have urges, from time to time, of doing something wild and exciting, something outside of the humdrum of daily living. So, one could describe Katrina as a female Walter Mitty.

MBA&M: When not writing, what do you do to relax?

We live on a large patch of land where we planted many trees and flowers, and I love tending to them, watering, weeding, and giving them food (mostly bat shit!). It’s quite meditative for me.

MBA&M: What are your immediate plans for the future, in terms of writing?

I’m working on Book 2, Healing, which will not be as light as Book 1, since I want to communicate something of the horrors of what really happened to those unfortunate victims who suffered from the mind control experiments. Yet, the story will bring some closure in a positive way and have a happy ending.

Thank you, S.P. Aruna, for stopping by today! We wish you the very best!

Author Bio:
Descended from a long line of storytellers, Jacki spins adventures filled with mystery, healing and romance.

Jacki’s love affair with the arts began at a young age and inspired her to train as a jazz singer and dancer. She has performed many acting roles with Seattle Opera Company and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Her travels to London and Paris ignited a deep-seated passion to write the romantic, regency The Code Breaker Series. Jacki is certain she spent at least one lifetime dancing in the Moulin Rouge.

Jacki has set her Grayce Walters Mystery Series in Seattle, her long-time home. The city’s unique and colorful locations are a backdrop for her romantic mystery.

Although writing now fills much of her day, she continues to volunteer for Seattle’s Ballet and Opera Companies and leads children’s tours of Pike Street Market. Her volunteer work with Seattle’s homeless shelters influenced one of her main characters in An Inner Fire and Women Under Fire.

Jacki’s two Golden Labs, Gus and Talley, were her constant companions. Their years of devotion and intuition inspired her to write both dogs as heroes in each series.

A geek at heart, Jacki loves superhero movies–a hero’s battle against insurmountable odds. But her heroines don’t have to wear a unitard to fight injustice and battle for the underdog.

AmandaForester-1MBA&M: Please tell our readers a bit about yourself?

I have a PhD in psychology and worked many years in academia before discovering that writing historical romance was way more fun. Whether in the rugged Highlands of medieval Scotland or the decadent ballrooms of Regency England, I enjoy stories that are fast-paced adventures, filled with wit, intrigue, and romance. When I’m not writing, I enjoy camping, scrapbooking, eating chocolate, and flying on zip-lines (ok, I did it once but I thought I needed to sound more exciting).

MBA&M: What is the allure of historical romance with intrigue, wit and romance?

I enjoy writing the types of books I would like to read. Don’t you love books that make you laugh, give you an adventure, and make you fall in love? I do! In A Winter Wedding, Miss Penelope Rose, the notorious Madame X, exclusive matchmaker to London’s elite, has made a modest fortune creating love matches for everyone but herself. Her toughest client yet, the Duke of Marchford, has commissioned her to find him a bride, but he is more interested in tracking down a spy than in interviewing potential mates. Marchford is willing to do anything to find that spy, including announcing an impromptu engagement to force Penelope to stay close and help him catch the traitor. When Penelope refuses to play along, Marchford takes to wooing her to stay, including embracing that most perilous of holidays–Christmas! As Penelope and Marchford work together to uncover a deadly plot, they find falling in love is the most dangerous adventure of all.

MBA&M: What is next for you as a writer?

My next release, The Highlander’s Bride, will travel back to the 14th Century to check in on Sir Gavin, who was left behind in France in my last Scottish medieval novel (True Highland Spirit). Sir Gavin has agreed to escort the beautiful Lady Marie Colette to meet her affianced husband in Scotland. Needless to say, things don’t quite go according to plan.
Back in the Regency, in A Winter Wedding there was one lady for whom Penelope could not make a match. Lady Kate was a hardened case, so naturally I had to take her on myself and I am currently writing her tale. She has been giving me trouble and protesting quite a bit, but I have a few surprises for her. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll be forced to trap her into marriage. It’s for her own good!

MBA&M: What inspired you to write about England, traitors, matchmaking and romance?

The months leading up to the passage of the Regency Act in 1811, which officially gave the Prince of Wales the control of the government in lieu of his ailing father, King George, were quite tumultuous. The King was clearly no longer able to rule but even to discuss this matter might be seen as treasonous. The war with France raged on, and Napoleon was looking supremely confident in his march across Europe. Nothing makes a better backdrop for romance than a little adventure and international intrigue!

MBA&M: Why write a romance during this era?

Ever since I read Pride and Prejudice in junior high I have loved the Regency time period. It is a wonderful time in history with great political turmoil, high manners and societal rules, and a great wardrobe! I would love to sweep across a ballroom floor in a sumptuous Regency gown! If I had a time machine, I would definitely travel to the Regency and enjoy learning how they really lived.

Reader Question: If you had a time machine, where would you go?

a winter weddingMY THOUGHTS:

A WINTER WEDDING by Amanda Forrester is an intriguing Regency Historical Romance set in 1810. # 3 in the “Marriage Mart” series, but can be read as a stand alone. Filled with adventure, romance, traitors, matchmaking, spies and passion.

An arrogant Duke and a gutsy companion found more than they bargain for, in “A Winter Wedding”, but not more than they can handle, including a bit of fun. I enjoyed this series. While, it is faith based, it is not “preachy”, but filled with energy, romance, and yes, passion.

Another light-hearted, witty, delicious romp through England, with a spy or two, twists and turns, any reader is sure to delight in reading.

What a delightful series, this has been. I look forward to the next grand adventure. It was great to see how Penelope Rose and James Lockton, the Duke of Marchford story comes together and ends. A must read!

Kerr cover

MBA&M: First, let me say, Welcome to MBA&M. Now, please tell our readers a little about yourself?

KJK: First, thank you for inviting me to participate on your blog. I am retired after a successful career in international business. I traveled a lot internationally and lived overseas in Hong Kong and Japan for almost a decade. After retiring, I decided to join the Peace Corps and spent a year in Russia as a PC volunteer. That was one of the most interesting experiences of my life. Unfortunately, after one year of a planned two year assignment in Russia, several volunteers, including me, were denied a visa for our second year and had to leave Russia. After many years of retirement, I decided to see if I could write a novel, and “Life of a Double Agent” is the result of that decision.

I live on Hilton Head Island, SC with my wife, Kryl, and our yellow lab, Etta. We have a lovely daughter, Kathryn, who lives and works in Washington D.C.

I love to sail, play golf, and before I began my book project was an avid duplicate bridge player.

MBA&M: What do you think the allure of writing a spy thriller is to readers today?

KJK: I think James Bond and Jason Bourne and Jack Ryan and Mitch Rapp have created a glamorous, exciting image of spies and many men, and possibly women, fantasize about being a spy. The success of spy thriller movies and books shows there is a large audience for spy thrillers today.

MBA&M: What was your inspiration to write “Life of a Double Agent“?

KJK: My time in Russia as a Peace Corps volunteer and the subsequent denial of a visa to stay in the country were the basic inspiration for “Life of a Double Agent”. I combined that inspiration with the idea of a normal businessman also working for the CIA, and added the double agent twist of having his CIA role being a mole working for China’s Ministry of State Security. Maybe it is a little complicated but I thought it might make an interesting read.

MBA&M: What was the most challenging thing or most difficult scene to write in “Life of a Double Agent“?

KJK: The most challenging thing was to weave the businessman activities together with the CIA role and the MSS duties in a smooth flowing story.

MBA&M: In “Life of a Double Agent”, you chose the world of spies, international business and intrigue, why this topic and why Russia as a setting?

KJK: I think it helps when writing a novel to write about something you know. I had lived in Russia as a Peace Corps volunteer so it was easy to fictionalize a story about a PC volunteer living in Russia, who in addition to his volunteer activities also has a CIA mission. The same is true of other parts of the book. I chose to use locations where I had some personal knowledge, and some business experiences that were similar to my own business experiences. The challenge was to weave the familiar places and experiences together with spy activities and intrigue in a way that it all sounds real and believable.

MBA&M: What is your favorite genre to read?

KJK: I enjoy spy thrillers, detective/police stories, medical mysteries, and lawyer stories. Authors like Tom Clancey, Vince Flynn, Jonathan Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, John Grisham, Robert Ludlum to name a few.

MBA&M: Which character in “Life of a Double Agent” do you feel is most like your own character and why?

KJK: Clearly the main character, Jim Hunt, is most like me. His public persona is that of a businessman which is the same as my public persona. He uses his intellect and his negotiating skills in all his activities, whether it is negotiating a business deal or negotiating with kidnappers or negotiating with people in the spy business.

MBA&M: If you could walk into a book, which book, and why?

KJK: I would choose to be the character Jack Ryan in any of Tom Clancey’s early novels where Jack was the lead character. Why? He led an exciting life and saved the world several times. Who wouldn’t want to be Jack Ryan, especially when you know the outcome of the book.

MBA&M: Okay, now if you could have an author write a  book about you, which author would you chose to write your story, and would your story be fact or fiction?

KJK: First, definitely I would want the story to be fiction. I had a fantastic business career and accomplished many things that make me very proud. I had an additional great experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in the middle of Siberia, Russia for a year. But my life story is not unique enough to be a best seller. So my conclusion is the story should be fiction. I would choose John Grisham to write a book about me, because he is a great author, develops characters well, and has a huge following for his books.

MBA&M: Now, last but not least. Let’s play a word game, shall we?
Say whatever comes to mind, within reason of course…

Fact or fiction?   Fiction is more fun, done well it feels like fact.
Intrigue or Romance?
Intrigue, but there is nothing wrong with romantic intrigue, or is it intriguing romance?
Past or Present?
Present, the past is gone. It is good to learn from the past, but you can’t go back so learn from it and live in the present.
Adventure or Politics?
Adventure, fact or fiction, adventures can be filled with excitement and intrigue. Politics, unfortunately, have become dirty, negative, and frustrating to those of us who want politicians to find solutions to problems. Continually spending money we don’t have is not a solution to a problem, it is just another problem.

MBA&M: Who is your favorite author of all time, not trying to put you on the spot or anything?

KJK: This is a really hard one. I would like to give you my six favorite of all time, but I try to answer the question asked, not the question I wish were asked, so my answer is Tom Clancey. His research for his books is second to none and his story telling is truly amazing.

MBA&M: What can readers find you doing as your next grand adventure?

KJK: I wish I knew. I am totally focused currently on promoting and selling my first book, “Life of a Double Agent”. If I reach the conclusion that my first book is being well received and is somewhat commercially successful, I would like to write a second book. I have the idea in my head, but I have not yet put pen to paper or fingers on the keyboard of my computer.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where they may connect with you and where they may purchase “Life as a Double Agent”?

I am on twitter at @kkerr19963

I have a facebook fan page,

I have a blog at

I have a website, where you can learn about the book, contact me, and purchase a copy of the book in any of the three formats; hardcover, paperback, and all e-book formats.

You can also purchase a copy from and by simply searching for Life of a Double Agent.

Thank you, Kenneth, for taking a moment of your time to spend with our readers today! We wish you all the best!

In Life of a Double Agent, by Kenneth J. Kerr, readers get a play-by-play look into the complexity of global conspiracy. This intense story of adventure and danger is enhanced by the interesting settings created from Kerr’s real-life global travel.

In his final mission, retired CIA agent Jim Hunt befriends the daughter of a senior Russian official working at a secret Russian city. He turns the official into a source of intelligence for the CIA. He puts himself in dangerous situations full of international intrigue to ensure the welfare of America.

“I wrote the book because many of my friends thought I was working for the CIA when I joined the Peace Corps and went to Russia,” Kerr says. “It gave me the idea to write a book about a normal business guy who in addition to his business job worked for the CIA.”

This realistic look inside the world of international intrigue and business will leave readers questioning to what extent the main character portrays the author’s own international business career.

One word describes Daire St. Denis’ writing. Hot! See below…

How to Break a Cowboy – A Savage Short

HOT, HOT, HOT, May 20, 2012 – “Do yourself a favor and give yourself time to read this story away from distractions. Do NOT read it in a public place or with friends and family around. It is definitely 5 alarm hot. But it is also a well crafted story with strong characterization and a well paced plot. I don’t normally read erotica, but I read this one. Twice.” ~ Louise Behiel, author and award winning blogger

Party of Three

Smokin’ hot, May 28, 2012 – “A simple ménage with her best friend Des and her boyfriend Josh becomes a sexual awakening for Tina in Party of Three. A bit of a suspenseful subplot spices up this sinfully steamy and incredibly erotic novella by Daire St. Denis.” ~ K. Branfield “Book Reviews & More by Kathy”

“The love story between the book’s three main characters alternates between sexy and sweetly romantic, showing a softer side to erotica.” ~ Eve Polak, RT Book Reviews

Reckless for Cowboy – Stampede Sizzlers

I’ll be Reckless too! July 22, 2012 – “Tantalizing. Delicious. Entirely satisfying.

Daire St. Denis knows how to lure in her reader and leave them thoroughly ravished. I enjoyed this quick read and will read it again. An excellent addition to the Stampede Sizzler line up. ~ Steena Holmes, Bestselling, Award Winning Author of Finding Emma

Have you ever wished a book ended differently? Have you ever wanted to shake the heroine in a story and tell her to smarten up? Well, now’s your chance!

Welcome to WICKED WAY INTERACTIVES, an exciting new erotic series by Daire St. Denis, where you (the reader) actively participate in the book’s ending.

dara-in-nyQ&A With Daire St. Denis

In a time when other authors are tending toward serializing their books and making the reader pay chapter by chapter, Daire St. Denis is doing the opposite. She’s creating more than one story possibility in each book. Not only that, she’s actively engaging the reader and having them participate in the story’s outcome. I’m thrilled to interview her about her exciting upcoming series Wicked Way Interactive books.

Q: What was your inspiration for writing Wicked Way Interactive books?

DSD: When I was a kid, I was a big fan of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books. In fact, I used the format for my thesis on different learning styles for my Masters of Education Degree. Based on the fact I wrote a story as my thesis, I should have known that what I really wanted to do was write, not teach. Duh! But, as my paper stated, we all follow our own paths to get to the ending of our story. Anyway, now that I’m a fulltime writer, I’ve had this idea at the back of my mind that I should write an adult book where the reader makes choices in the story.

Q: Why did you choose this story, Sex, Spies and Photographs to start your Wicked Way Interactive books?

DSD: Honestly? I got to the black moment of the story and my heroine literally couldn’t decide what to do. As the author, I knew what I wanted her to do. Or rather, what I thought she should do, but it didn’t feel right for her. So, I wrote both endings and, Voila! The book was born!

Q: Will all the books in the series give the reader a single choice?

DSD: No. The second book in the series gives the reader three choices the third has six choices. The fourth book has four choices. Obviously, the more choices there are the more complex the story becomes.

Q: It sounds like a lot of work. Do you enjoy writing in this format?

DSD: I love it! I think part of the reason I like it so well is because it’s a more accurate reflection of life. So often we are faced with critical decisions in life. Things like: should I move? Should I take a new job? Should I stay in this relationship or not? Unfortunately, in our own lives, we don’t have the luxury of finding out what would have happened if we’d made a different choice, but I hope that I am giving the reader a taste of what it might look like if we did.

Q: So when the reader comes to the decision point, is there one right decision?

DSD: Oh no. Like life, I think certain decisions may be more difficult, more heartbreaking, more poignant, etc. But I believe the outcome of any decision can be positive or negative, depending on your outlook. Our realities are based on our present situation. It’s the same in these stories. The decisions take the character in completely different directions and therefore change the character’s outlook about her situation. So whatever you decide is not right or wrong, it’s just different.

Q: How many more books do you have in this series?

DSD: I have four other books in the works at the moment. How to Train a Lover – A Savage Short Interactive will be released in April and is a sequel to, How to Break a Cowboy – A Savage Short (non-interactive) already available. Then, I will be releasing Sex, Lies and Seduction (a sequel to Sex, Spies and Photographs) in June. The fourth book, Ride Me Cowboys (a sequel to Reckless for Cowboy) will be available in August.

For more information about my upcoming releases, check out my website at

Q: Are all of your books interactive?

DSD: No. I currently have three other books available, Party of Three, How to Break a Cowboy – A Savage Short and Reckless for Cowboy – A Stampede Sizzler which are not interactive. I also write sensual contemporary romance and will be releasing a full length title (non-interactive) within the next year and a half.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add?

DSD: I’d just like to say that I hope the readers enjoy reading these books as much as I enjoy writing them! Oh, and just to be clear, the content in these stories has mature themes with explicit and erotic content intended for adult audiences (who have a playful side!).

Checkmate My Lord - FINAL-300

Tracey Devlyn_088HighCloseCropMBA&M: Good morning, Tracey, and welcome to My Book  Addiction and More. Now, tell our readers a little about yourself?

TRACEY DEVLYN: Thanks so much for having me on My Book Addiction and More. I look forward to chatting with everyone!

I write historical romantic thrillers and my debut novel, A Lady’s Revenge, released last year. There are two other novels in the Nexus romantic spy series—Checkmate, My Lord hit stores this month and A Lady’s Secret Weapon makes an appearance in October.

As for me, I grew up in a small town in southern Illinois, but have been living in the Chicago area for nearly two decades. I’m married to a wonderful loving and supportive husband and we adopted an annoying, but sweet-hearted, red Dobe two years ago.

MBA&M: What made you decide to write historical romance with a bit of danger?

TRACEY: I’ve been a big fan of historical romance since I picked up The Raven and The Rose by Virgina Henley. Somewhere along the way, I started wanting to mesh the rough, dangerous edge of Medievals with the light, humorous Regencies. After reading several romantic suspense/thrillers, I got the urge to add a dash of death and dismemberment. J

MBA&M: What do you feel the allure of historical romance is to readers today?

TRACEY: Likely pure escapism. The Regency era is similar enough to modern times that readers can identify with the period, but different enough for readers to yearn for a whirl around the ballroom in a slightly aloof, gorgeous, insanely wealthy earl’s arms.

MBA&M: What was the inspiration for “Checkmate, My Lord”?Checkmate My Lord - FINAL-300

TRACEY: Readers met Lord Somerton, Sebastian Danvers, in my debut novel, A Lady’s Revenge. I knew I wanted to move Sebastian’s story to the country and then the idea of his beautiful neighbor spying on him—England’s greatest spymaster—came to mind.

MBA&M:  What was your favorite scene to write?

TRACEY: One of my favorite scenes took place outside the churchyard, near a privy (outhouse). Readers will see Catherine’s motherly instincts kick in, Sebastian’s is in full spymaster mode, and one of the villain’s makes an appearance. It’s a suspenseful and oddly endearing scene.

MBA&M: Who was your favorite secondary character, and will they have a story of their own one day?

TRACEY: My favorite secondary character was seven-year-old Sophie Ashcroft. She’s a horse-mad, castle-building, full-of-life girl who has no concept of personal space. More than likely, she won’t have her own story, but she does make an appearance in A Lady’s Secret Weapon, where she commences torturing Ethan deBeau. You can catch a glimpse of her here. It’s her first love letter to her hero, Teddy.

MBA&M: What do you feel is the most important quality of an author?

TRACEY: Determination. It’s a quality that helped me get published, build professional relationship, and connect with readers. There are SO many more qualities that complement and bolster an author’s determination, though.

MBA&M: With the cyber world today so vast and you being a newer author, do you feel,it is easier for readers to connect to authors or harder than years ago? And, Do authors turn off their inner feelings to connect to so large an audience, with little privacy today?

TRACEY: Great questions. I think it’s TONS easier to connect with readers. By and large, writers are introverts. So, they might be a little shy in person. Social media provides introverts a means of connecting with readers that is comfortable. Plus, social media allows authors to touch readers in other countries. I’ve had Facebook conversations with a reader from Indonesia. Without the Internet, I would be connecting with a much smaller group of readers.

Privacy is a concern for everyone Internet—not just authors. Speaking from personal experience, I’m a fairly private person by nature, so much of my personal life remains behind closed doors. However, when it comes to my books/characters/writing career, or authors I’ve read and love, I’ll chat you up all day long!

MBA&M:  What three words would you chose to describe “Checkmate, My Lord”?

TRACEY: Romantic. Thrilling. Endearing.

Checkmate My Lord - FINAL-300MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to connect to you and where they may find “Checkmate, My Lord”?

TRACEY: Readers can find me lots of places!

Good morning Katharine, and welcome to My Book Addiction and More today!!

Good morning, ladies. Thank you for inviting me to visit today!

MBA&M: Please tell our readers who may not know you a few tidbits about Katharine Ashe?

KATHARINE: I write historical romances featuring daring heroines, dashing heroes, loads of adventure, and stunning sensuality. My new book, HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY (coming out next week!), entangles a man with a mission and a lady who refuses to be controlled in a delectable wager both of them just might win.

MBA&M: What made you want to write historical romances? Why Regency Romance?

KATHARINE: I adore the gloriously epic romances of the past, stories of sweeping love and noble deeds, of devastating sacrifices and spectacular triumphs. It’s all so exciting! Regency-era England offers a particularly delicious palate to work with. I revel in the contrast between the decorous order of high society and the vast, dangerous empire Britain was building at that time across the world. My heroes and heroines steal kisses in the shadowed corners of ballrooms as well as on ship decks, and get locked in embraces beneath fragrant rose trellises as well as wind-swept palm trees. The opportunities for dalliance — both deliciously familiar and delectably exotic — are endless!

MBA&M: Of all your books which character do you most identify with and why?

KATHARINE: All and none. Naturally there is a bit of me in each of my characters, and often the particular challenges they face come straight from my life experience. But none of them are me. More than anything, when I write a book I fall in love with the couple. Their thrilling journey together toward happiness drives my pen, and I become completely swept up in their relationship.

MBA&M: If you could change places with any character in one of your stories, which character and why?

KATHARINE: Oh, this is an easy one: Viola Carlyle, the heroine of HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY. I adore the sea, but I also adore fine living. Viola is both a scruffy sailor living on a ship and a lovely lady living on a lord’s estate, so she has the opportunity for both. Also, her hero, Captain Jin Seton, is the most devastatingly mouthwatering… But I won’t go there! Like I said, it’s the couple for me. Viola wouldn’t be who she is without Jin, and he couldn’t be the perfect hero without her. I love them both together.

MBA&M: Have you always wanted to be a writer? If not writing what would you be doing? By the way thank you for your wonderful stories!

KATHARINE: From the earliest I can remember I have written stories, especially love stories. My first was what we call “fan fiction” now, a rewriting of the children’s book Pretzel, the Longest Dachshund in the World with a much nicer heroine for poor Pretzel. And I actually do have another job; I’m a professor of medieval history. But even when I was in graduate school working hard on my PhD, I couldn’t stop writing romances. I simply adore telling love stories.

And you’re quite welcome! It is a great pleasure and an honor to be able to share my stories with others.

MBA&M: What is your life’s passion beside writing?

KATHARINE: My family—my husband, son and dogs.

MBA&M: How many books do you believe should be in a series? How do you know when to end a series?

KATHARINE: Each series has its own unique shape and size, I think. I like three-book series, but sometimes that’s just not enough, and certainly as a reader when it comes to characters that I love I crave more more more! As a writer too. I’ve brought back a number of characters from my Rogues of the Sea trilogy for my Falcon Club series because they were so much fun, but also because they asked for their own stories. (Seriously. I’m one of those writers whose characters talk to her.) Currently I’m working on my five-book Falcon Club series as well as a new three-book series that will debut in 2013.

MBA&M: If you can please tell our readers a few tidbits about your next project(s)?

KATHARINE: HOW A LADY WEDS A ROGUE, book #3 of my Falcon Club series, will be out on September 25. Road trip stories are my favorites, and this one throws a country miss and a hardened spy into a scandalously intimate adventure. I spent some time traveling through Wales while researching this book. Emerald hills, stormy skies, ancient castles… it was heaven, and the perfect place to get a winsome heroine and determined hero thoroughly lost… and to throw them completely in love.

MBA&M: Katharine, please tell our readers where to find you and where your books are available?

KATHARINE: I love chatting with readers about books and romance, and I always write back. My website is the best place to start: . It includes links to purchase my books in both paperback and e-book format, my email contact, a place to sign up for my short monthly newsletter where I announce contests and book news, as well as links to me on Facebook and twitter.

Katharine, do you have anything you would like to add today?

A big thank you to your readers for visiting with me today!

And I’d love to ask everybody a question. I’ll send a signed copy of my award-winning CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD to one randomly chosen commenter who answers!

 Here’s the question:

In HOW TO BE A PROPER LADY, Viola suffers through many lessons on how to comport herself in high society, with varying degrees of success. What’s one of the rules you learned about how to behave properly, and do you still follow that rule?

What a pleasure to have you visit with us and our readers today!! Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule and your life to spend time with us and our readers today!!

Good morning Larry, and welcome to My Book Addiction and More..
MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little about Larry Johnson?

LARRY: I was born and raised on a tobacco farm with seven siblings. I was mostly a loner and spent my growing up years experimenting with electrical and electronic ideas, photography, and going on adventures in the wilds of the mountains. My imagination never stopped. Fear has never been a weakness of mine. Our community was steeped in superstitions and in my younger years, I slept in haunted houses and graveyards to prove that ghosts do not exist.

In my working careers, I have been a corporate executive, business owner, engineer, pastor, philanthropist and adventurer. After I retired, I began writing as a means of expressing my life’s experiences. I am currently engaged to the love of my life and soul mate and spend my time traveling, writing and remodeling my country home in North Carolina.

I have carried out excursions in Guatemala, South Africa, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, Italy, Germany, France, Denmark, and many island countries. I have  lived most all my life in North Carolina, but had short stays in Northern Europe, on the Mediterranean and California.

My writings are the inspirations from my life experiences, my imagination, and the actual incidents that have occurred in my lifetime.

Photography has always been my hobby, with writing a close second.  In my computer storage, I have approximately 5,000 documents and over 80,000 photographs.

MBA&M: What made you decide to write “Love Undercover”?
LARRY: Love Undercover is a ‘looking back’ at my life’s experiences with a bit of embellishment at times. I had just retired (a little early) and was reflecting on my past and anticipating my future. Also, I had just emerged from a divorce due to my partner’s infidelity and emotions were in quite a stir. Writing the book over a period of time helped to get me back to a state of normalcy. It was quite a trip and very enjoyable I might add. All is well now.
MBA&M: What are some of the challenges in writing a romantic suspense?
LARRY: A real challenge for me was the story line and keeping it interesting.
Mixing adventure, personalities and romance was a real task for me also.
I have had a lot of experience in adventure, but not so much in romance.  It took a lot of work to be  realistic and yet keep the reader turning the pages. Hopefully I will get better at this.
MBA&M: Which character in “Love Undercover”do you identify with  and why?
LARRY: I identify with the protagonist, Nicholas Watson,  as his personality and character are based on my life and  experiences. But he is much better than I really am… the kind of guy I would like to have been…
MBA&M: Where did your idea for “Love Undercover” come from?
LARRY: I wrote a short story entitled “Went to Lunch Early” and it was so touching as people read it, I felt I should develop the reason for the emotional strength of that short story. It became the last three chapters of the book. So the ending of the book was written first, then the beginning, and over a period of time, all in between…
MB&&M: Where can our readers find you and where is “Love Undercover” available?
I am on Facebook as Larry Johnson
email there is
And on Facebook as Love Undercover
The book, Love Undercover is available direct from the publisher at
And most online bookstores such as, Barnes and Nobles, etc.
Other bookstores as they choose to carry it. You can always ask.
Signed copies are available from me direct.
Video Trailer
Larry, do you have anything else to add?
I would say this to any beginning or aspiring writer. Get an understanding of how your brain works. Your logic thinking is
in your left brain…unknowns here produce fear.
It looks at the past, tries to project the future, and worries in the present…intellect rules.
Your creativity is in your right brain and is always in the moment.
The amazing thing about the right brain is that when you get it in gear, it produces without you thinking…I use music (not singing) (that I don’t know, such as Russian, etc) to open my right brain and then it plays out like a movie. I get excited for I never know how it will turn out until I get there…quite enjoyable to write as it comes down the line…
Of course, you then always revert to your left brain for re-writes…but that is the work part of writing…
Thank you for visiting with us today!!

Love Undercover

 A Novel by Larry Johnson

Publisher:Tate Pub & Enterprises Llc 2011-11-01 (2011)

Nicholas Watson craves a little mystery and excitement in his life. After all, he is an undercover agent working for a US counterterrorism unit—which is not exactly the kind of lifestyle that one should have when searching for someone to settle down with. He yearns for love and intimacy but feels that he will never find it, especially since he has already experienced one failed marriage. His life goes into a tizzy when Kalyna, a beautiful and mysterious European, walks into his life. Nick discovers she also works for her respective government’s counterterrorism unit. When Nick and Kalyna are thrown together in a work-related encounter, they fall deeply in love—which is not part of their assignment. Because of their line of work, they can never make their relationship known. They continue to be placed together in professional situations, only to be separated again when the work is done.

Miraculous happenings against unexpected complications that bring conflict to their newfound love simply fuel the fire of their journey.
