The day started off with such promise, as had the day before and the day before that. Those had ended poorly for him, but Donal hoped that today might end differently. The lass in the kitchen was back and she’d agreed to meet him by the postern gate at sunset. If all went well, he’d be exactly where he wished to be, in the arms of a beautiful, buxom red-haired lass.  The mere thought of it set his pulse to racing and his kilt to rising.  He spun quickly leaning on the well to hide his more than obvious arousal at the thought of Bess… Beth… Oh, what was her name? He nodded to the few passersby who gave him curious stares as he ran names through his head determined to get it right.  “Bethia!” he exclaimed out loud, slamming his palm into his forehead. How was it that he couldn’t for the life of him remember it.

“Donal? Did ye call me,” Bethia asked, approaching the well with an empty bucket.

“Och!  Aye.  Aye.  I did.”

She smiled sweetly at him as she lowered her bucket into the well.

“Here.  Allow me to help ye with that,” he said. No one would ever accuse him of nae being chivalrous.  She moved out of the way as he hoisted the now filled bucket up and set it on the ledge of the well.

“What did ye want?” she asked.

“I wished to tell ye how beautiful ye…” Bethia didnae seem to be listening to him. He was trying to woo her a bit and instead she was glancing towards the gate.

Turning his head to see what was so fascinating, he noted an elderly couple speaking with the guard, who glanced around and upon seeing Donal pointed in his direction.

“Who are they?” Bethia asked, standing so close to his side that his arm brushed her breast.

He fought to control his erection as the couple approached. “I dinnae recognize them,” he said. He turned towards her and his arm again brushed her breast. Tonight was definitely going to be better than the last.

“Are ye Donal?” the elderly man shouted as he got closer.

Donal was startled at the man’s angry tone. He turned to give him his full attention, “Aye,” he answered. He looked from the man to the woman and back not recognizing these people.

“We’ve something for ye,” he said, motioning to the woman who was carrying something.

“For me?” What could it be? He hoped it was something good.

“Aye.  ’Tis yers,” the man practically hissed at him.

The woman raised a plaid wrapped package with shaky arms and placed it into his hands. As soon as she did, it began to wriggle and shriek.

“What’s this?” he asked, a look of horror on his face.

Bethia peeked into the blankets.

“’Tis a bairn,” she said.  The look she gave him was one he would never forget.  Shock and something else rested there.  Accusation.

Excerpt:

She waited a minute before finally pursuing the figure. As she stepped around the stable, a hand covered her mouth and pulled her against a hard chest. She used the move she made against Javier just a few days earlier, jabbing her right elbow into the man’s gut. He grunted, but no relaxing of muscles occurred. Great.

“Shh, lass. It’s only me.”

She stilled. She’d know Torr’s voice anywhere. Did he realize what had happened? She bit his hand.

“Ach.” His hold loosened a fraction.

She turned her head and whispered. “I think someone has betrayed you.”

He leaned his head down and whispered in her ear, his breath sending shivers over her skin. “I know.”

He knew? Of course! That’s why he was here. The man was always one step ahead of her. No wonder he was laird.

“Why do I always find ye about at night?”

She glanced up at his face, so near to her own, before she quickly looked away. “I don’t sleep well at night when not at home. I haven’t adjusted to Gealach yet.”

He stared hard at her as if trying to decide if she lied. “The question is, lass, what is yer relationship with the traitor?”

“What?” An uneasy shiver raced up her spine as he held her in a tight grip. “Let me go.”

“Not until ye tell me what ye were doing with Graham.”

What she was — he had to be kidding. “I wasn’t doing anything with him. I saw him sneaking about and confronted him.”

Torr spun her around so fast, the world took a moment to right itself. Once again his hands held her shoulders tightly. “What were ye thinking? A traitor who is caught is dangerous!”

The moon’s light clearly illuminated his face, and she swallowed her angry retort. Concern shone in his eyes beneath his furrowed brow. Why did he have to be such a good guy? She lowered her gaze to project meekness. “I didn’t know he was a traitor until after he became angry.”

Torr lifted her chin with his finger. His amused smirk gentled his face. “Ye made him angry? Then it is not only me ye frustrate?”

She shook her head, her throat dry. His gaze rested on her lips, which brought to mind his last kiss.

His grin faded as his thumb stroked her lower lip.

She took a deep breath in a vain attempt to still the fluttering in her stomach. It didn’t work. It only made her more aware of the scent of the man holding her spellbound. Wool, lye, and ale filled her nostrils as his head lowered.

Her lips parted in anticipation, and his tongue entered her mouth, tasting her with confidence. It was not the gentleness of their first kiss nor the demand of the second. He simply took and coaxed her to do the same, an invitation she couldn’t ignore.

My thoughts:

ON HIGHLAND TIME by Lexi Post is an intriguing and interesting Time Travel, Scottish Romance set in 1306 Scotland.  Interesting concept the “Time Weavers, Inc.” group, Diana was sent back through time to find the culprit who changed history and set things back to rights. A minor clan chief, Torr,  must die in battle as he originally had, but can Diana allow that to happen? Will her feelings get in the way? Suspenseful,  sexy,  passionate, with a few twists and turns,  and a HEA, which leaves the concept of more to come.  Interesting characters. The storyline was unpredictable and intriguing to me. I can’t wait to read more from Lexi Post.I received a complimentary copy,  however,  all opinions are my own.

MY THOUGHTS

Edge of Yesterday by Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder is a magical Time Travel and more. Book 1 in the new and thrilling “Edge” series. Set against the back drop of Scotland’s Highland Heatheredge, where magic and time are relevant.
Men are disappearing from a small village, with no bodies, or signs of violence, how can foul play be involved?

This is Cailean Ross, a world champion swordsman and Julianna Mackay, who flees a man she fears is an evil wizard’s tale.

The plot flows seamlessly. The characters are engaging, captivating, and well matched. The story is fast paced and masterfully written.
These authors are two of my favorite authors. They pull readers into their stories and holds captivated. I couldn’t put “Edge of Yesterday” down, it was so thrilling.

In, “Edge of Yesterday”, readers will find suspense, mystery, intrigue, danger, a wicked wizard, a six hundred year old Scottish curse, and a romance that crosses time, itself. Everything a Romance and Time Travel fan could possibly wish in a great story. Plus a set on the edge of your seat plot! What a tangle of excitement!
WOW! I can’t wait to read the next installment. There story has somewhat of a cliffhanger, leading readers into Book 2, but this book has a satisfying ending. A must read by Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder! Great job, ladies! I highly recommend reading “Edge of Yesterday”, you will not go wrong!

An impossible adventure. A fierce, undeniable desire.

Infamous Scottish bad boy, Ian MacLean, takes a road trip to sort out his mess of a life and lands five hundred years in the past. He is taken hostage into what he is certain is a band of extreme Highland role players. The only bright light in this strange situation is his insanely beautiful warrior-princess captor who wields her claymore as well as her fiery feral charms.

To gain a strong ally for her clan, flame-haired Bess Campbell reluctantly married a powerful Highland chief who had no intentions of uniting the clans. After murdering her clan chief, he chains her to a rock condemning her to die in the rising tide, until a strangely dressed but startlingly handsome man emerges from the waves like a mythical selkie and rescues her. Bess learns her most odd savior has the same name as her murdering husband—MacLean—and makes him her prisoner.

Fearing she may have captured a madman, Bess forces Ian to journey through Scotland chasing down a killer. She finds Ian’s strange ways oddly endearing and uncommonly useful to her quest for revenge. Ian struggles to find a way back to his time, while being pulled deeper into his role in the past and his undeniable attraction for the fiery Highland warrior princess, Bess Campbell.

EXCERPT

She knelt at his feet and began smoothing the plaid across the cold stone floor, felt him watching her every move. “Ye’d best pay close attention,” she said, “because I’m no’ gonnae do this for ye again.”

“Too humiliating?”

“Should be humiliating for ye, to have me show ye how to properly dress yourself.” “Actually, I find it charming, in a weird sort of way.”

Bess ignored the last comment and folded the bottom third of the plaid into thick pleats. She slipped the rope under them.

“Lay on the plaid,” she said. “Place yer waist at the rope in case ye’ve forgotten.” “Oh, yer sarcasm tears me apart, Blaze.”

“If it would help to tear down yer arrogance then we’d be better served, and stop calling me Blaze.” He grimaced as he folded his body down to kneel beside her.

“Your wound…,” she began.

“Is nothing,” he said behind clenched teeth as he lowered his body on top of the plaid.

He rested supine before her. Bess drew in a deep breath. She hovered over him, grasped the ends on the rope in her fists, tied it about his waist, and then adjusted the pleats under the belt.

Ian moaned from far back in his throat. Perspiration glistened across his forehead.

“Ye claim your wound is nothing, d’ye?” she chided, loosening the rope belt. Ian gave her a small forced smile.

She continued to dress him. Her fingers smoothed the wool over his hard waist, over his lean hips, and down the ridge of muscle on his thighs. Feigning indifference was the most difficult part of her task.

“Ye may stand now,” she said. “I’ll help ye.”

“No thanks,” he said struggling to sit up, “you’ve done quite enough.”

She ignored his protest.

“Bursting your stitches is no’ a sign of bravery, ’tis a sign of stupidity.” She took up his left arm and placed it over her shoulders. “Stand with me.”

“I can do it on my own,” he said.

“Ye’re just another arrogant bastard, a typical MacLean,” she said helping him anyway.

“Have you ever thought that all MacLean’s aren’t forged from the same iron as your husband?” he asked.

“Ye betrayed my trust, so aye, I do think all MacLean’s are alike,” she said.

“But what sort of man would I be if I didn’t try to escape?” he asked.

She paused. He had her there. Of course she expected he would try to escape. That was why she had chained and tied him up in the first place.

Ian on his feet, Bess took a step backward. She could not help but allow her gaze to fall down the long length of his body and discovered her task was not complete.

She bent down, and scooped up the rest of the plaid dangling from his waist and tossed it over his shoulder. He remained silent, a blessing, as she tucked the end of the plaid under the rope belt. Task done, Bess surveyed Ian, and her knees suddenly weakened.

Dear God, she thought, he’s the Highlander of my dreams, of my heart. He is the one who could make love possible, if he wasnae so arrogant and odd, and I wasnae so bound to my clan. If ‘twas another time…

Despite the way he unnerved her, it was impossible to avoid noting how wonderful he
smelled. It was a spicy, potently male scent. Deep inside her, a voice cried out for her to press
her fingers against his beautiful mouth. The thought made Victoria suck in a quick, sharp breath
of air.
Nicholas’ eyes darkened with an emotion she didn’t even want to consider defining.

Slowly, he lowered his head until his mouth lightly touched hers. Fire streaked across her
skin, its warmth sinking into her pores until it heated her blood like molten lava. She sighed then
parted her mouth to lace his lips with the tip of her tongue. A dark sound rumbled in his chest as
his tongue swept its way into her mouth and imitated an act her body suddenly craved as if she
were starving.

Pleasure swept its way through her. The fiery sensation of it settled into every inch of her
body.
He said she’d bewitched him, but she was the one under his spell. His lips teased and
seduced hers until her body screamed for more.

She wanted him to touch her. Needed him. She arched her hips upward in a silent plea for
his touch, and a dark growl vibrated on her lips as he tugged the covers off her. His tongue
swirled around hers, teasing and taunting her with each tantalizing stoke. The hot taste of him
made her nipples grow hard until they ached with a pleasurable, tantalizing sensitivity. Eager to
assuage the need for his touch, she caught his hand and pressed it to her breasts. A growl
rumbled out of him as he rubbed his thumb over the rigid peak. The sensation of soft linen
between her skin and his hand made her moan softly as his mouth worked its way across her
cheek to her neck where he gently nipped at her skin.

Need spun through her, and as he lifted his head to stare down at her, she saw desire
darkening his green eyes. A knot of anticipation tightened in her lower body as his hand left her
breast and slid downward to her stomach where the heel of his hand pressed into the sensitive
spot at the apex of her thighs. The simple pressure made her suck in a sharp breath, and a small
smile curved his lips.

“I want to watch you as I make you shatter from my touch, Victoria.” His words
whispered across her senses as his hand pulled the hem of her nightgown upward to expose her
completely.

MY THOUGHTS:
FOREVER MINE by Monica Burns is a unique Scottish Historical Victorian Time-Travel Romance with a bit of Paranormal element set in present time to 1897. Meet, Victoria Ashton, Countess of Guildford and Nicholas Thornhill, Earl of Guildford and a passion that lasts forever, literally.
Well written with a unique take of romance, time, passion, tragedy, danger and a powerful love story that spans generations and though time. Even, though the lies, betrayal, ill tempers, and the possibility of murder, the Earl of Guildford, Nickolas, can’t stop from being attracted to the present day Victoria.
Time Travel, is not usually my foray, but, I have to say, FOREVER MINE is a must read. It is powerful, compelling, passionate, and a must read. I have enjoyed every single story Ms. Burns has written thus far, and have to say FOREVER MINE, was no exception, and fact I am now a believer of the Time-Travel genre. The chemistry
between the present day Victoria and Nickolas is astounded, powerful and very passionate. Even through time and generations, their love could not be denied. I would highly recommend FOREVER MINE to Historical readers as well as Time-Travel,and Romance readers. A terrific read from the first blast from an explosion to the very last page and beyond, we all wish to have this kind of love story. Powerful and compelling!! Well done!

Billed as Canada’s “Queen of Comedy” by the Toronto Sun (Jan. 5, 2014), Melodie Campbell achieved a personal best when Library Digest compared her to Janet Evanovich.

Melodie has a commerce degree from Queen’s University, but it didn’t take well.  She has been a bank manager, college instructor, marketing director, comedy writer and possibly the worst runway model ever.  These days, Melodie is the Executive Director of Crime Writers of Canada.

Her latest book is the paranormal romance time travel, Rowena and the Viking Warlord.

MY THOUGHTS:

Rowena and the Viking Warlord by Melodie Campbell is an interesting Paranormal Romance Time Travel. Book 3 in the Land’s End series. See, “Rowena Through the Wall” and “Rowena and the Dark Lord”. While, I would suggest reading the other two in this Trilogy, it can be read as a stand alone.

In this one Rowena, is more mature, as is the other characters, Lars, Cedric, Kendra, Gareth and Thane. Rowena  finds herself in more trouble. In this one we have more twists and turns, more funny bits, the sexy parts are sexier than in the previous stories, with serious bits too.  It is a well written tale of time travel, romance, and adventure with great character and world building. A sexy, funny romp through time! An enjoyable read! Received for an honest review.

~RETURN TO ME~

So without further ado, set back and enjoy your time with Mae Archer….

WELCOME, MAE!!

Writing with the door Open by Mae Archer

One of the best paper writing help I’ve read was from Stephen King. In his memoir On Writing he states that you need to ‘Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open.’ What he means by this is that you first write for yourself. You write the sort of stories you want to read, the stories that only you can tell. When you’re first writing you shouldn’t be thinking about the reader or the publication process. Instead you just need to let the story tell itself.

After you have done then you then need to write with the ‘door open.’ This is when you need to think about who else might be reading it. You need to revise your work by thinking only about the reader. Will they understand what you’re explaining on page 33, does the characterisation work from page 10 to page 110, etc.

And then when your novel is published it’s out there in the world. It belongs to everyone. As readers we mediate the words on the page through our worldview. Sometimes I find it disconcerting reading reviews because the reviewer is interpreting or seeing something that I did not intend or think about during the writer process. If they’re saying something good, then I feel flattered and say ‘of course that’s what I meant.’ And if they’re saying something negative then I get upset and say ‘where did they get that from?’ because when I write I’m not consciously thinking about the story, it’s just coming to me if you will.

My romance novel Return to Me started as a book I was writing for myself. The idea came from a dream and like most dreams it was a mass of convoluted images and feelings. The next morning when I woke up I began writing. The characters of Lana and Tristan and their second chance story had a grip of me and they didn’t let go. This was the story that I absolutely had to tell. I’d always adored time travel stories and one of my all time favourite books is Jude Deveroux’ Remembrance, a time travel romance where the heroine goes back in time to correct her past lives with her soul mate, so they can be together in this lifetime.

But Return to Me is a time travel story with a twist. Lana is not transported back in time, instead she ends up in a world that is just like her own, but everyone she knows is different because of different choices they made, including herself. One of the reviews I received stated that Return to Me had a fascinating Twilight Feel to it, which I found interesting. As a child I loved watching the Twilight Zone, but when I was writing this book this was not one of the references I was thinking of. It just goes to show that there is so much that happens in our subconscious that we don’t even know about it.

When I completed my novel and it came time to submit it I recognised it was a paranormal romance and categorised it as such, but when it was published I saw a new genre tag in the description. Return to Me was also classified as a speculative novel. If someone told me that I was writing a speculative novel I would have fallen off my chair. In fact I had to look up exactly what this genre means (for the record it’s a an umbrella term encompassing the more fantastical fiction genres). And now that I know what it means I can see how this fits my novel. I can also understand why this tag was added because readers who are looking for books in this specific genre might want to read Return to Me.

But if I had embarked on the writing process thinking I was writing a speculative novel, who knows what the end result would be. The only roadmap I had when I began writing was the dream in which I was with my husband, but he was different to how I knew him. I grieved for the man I knew and yet loved him in this different place. Everything else was constructed during the writing process.

This is why when we write, we have to throw away the rulebook on genre and publication, and just tell the story we have to tell. The rest will take care of itself when we complete our manuscript. Ever since I learned this fact I have been able to sustain an affordable writing service for struggling students, which helps the bills and keeps me occupied.

Mae Archer writes romance and erotica. Her paranormal, speculative romance novel Return to Me is published by Momentum.

A bit about the author…..

Mae Archer knew she wanted to be a writer since she was a child. She loved listening to her grandmother’s war stories about English maidens falling in love with handsome Yankees while England burnt under the Luftwaffe’s blitz.

When she discovered romance novels as a teenager she soon realised that her dream job was to be a romance writer. After many career twists and turns she’s making her dreams come true.

Her real life is like one of her grandmother’s stories. She met a foreigner who travelled through Australia and it was love at first sight. She married him six months after they met and every day since has been an adventure.

She lives in Australia with her husband and daughter.

MBA&M PROUDLY PRESENTS….

AMANDA MCINTYRE!

amanda's tour

WELCOME!

FallenAngelwildandunruly

MBA&M: Please give our readers some insight into the mind and life of Amanda McIntyre?

Seriously, you really want to go there? <g> I’ve been called an artist, whimsical, twisted (perhaps the same) eclectic, mysterious, a squirrel, a believer in potential and possibility, mom, daughter, insightful, talented, crazy, friendly, loyal, trustworthy, funny, smart and insightful. I live a crazy busy life with four older children, one newly married, twins in college and my only daughter, bless her heart is a Middle School teacher( we call her a saint) I am a pure rural Midwestern girl at heart and will proudly testify that we, in fact, have the most beautiful sunsets in all to the country. I believe that Fine Arts education in our schools is not a luxury, but a necessity. My Art teacher was the key encouraging me about my creativity. If I wasn’t writing, chances are good that I’d be an eccentric painter with a huge studio somewhere! As it is, for now, I like to say that I paint pictures with words! <G>

MBA&M:  What was the inspiration behind writing “Fallen Angel”?FallenAngel

This is the second book in my time travel series, Tales of the Sweet Magnolia and I am working on a third. As with all the books in the series, the tag line reads; TO FIND TRUE LOVE, YOU’VE ONLY TO TRAVE THROUGH TIME. However, I wanted so take time-travel to the next level, and so combined it with a strange mystery man who seems to pop up in in people’s lives to encourage them to look inside their heart.

In the first book, Wild & Unruly, I have a lonely modern day librarian go back in time to the old west, where she becomes the head madam of the Sweet Magnolia bordello. In book two, one of her girls, Angel pines after the romance between Lil and the town Sheriff and when she hears the music by a man named Billy Joel that Miss Lilly plays on the piano, she decides that she must find him, this “Billy” who writes amazing love songs to women. To get closer to him she follows her heart and ends up taking piano lessons from a traveling piano teacher who encourages her to follow her heart, her dreams, her deepest desires. As she is plays, the music whisks her away to where her desires and the music meet—in the nosebleed section of a Billy Joel concert!  But her journey has only just begun!! <g>

MBA&M:  What do you feel the allure of a hot, time-travel romance novel is for readers?

I think it’s the allure of the ‘what if’ and the unknown. Plus, I’m a Dr. Who a and Torchwood fan. But listen to what I ran across when I was doing research on time-travel…it’s true that we don’t know if time-travel exists. But the truth of the matter is that it’s NEVER been DISPROVEN! Which theoretically means that until it is, then the possibility that it DOES exist remains! That seems so cool to me! But it may be my “geek” side showing!

MBA&M: How hard is it to write hot, sexy, sensual scenes,if you don’t mind telling our readers, and where do you draw your inspiration from, experience or imagination?

My experience in writing for Harlequin Spice has made it a great deal easier to realize that hot and steamy is fun to write. There is definitely pacing involved and it has to be realistic to the story and true to your characters. I love the journey of seduction, to me that’s what is/can be as sexy as the actual sex scenes themselves. Let’s face, after a certain point it’s pretty much automatic…but it’s the getting there that’s the fun part –to write, of course!<g> My inspiration? I create a wall of “inspiration “for every book—pictures of people, settings, locales, architecture.

Now, given all of this, are you asking if I put my husband through all the things I write in order to see if they work? No. I’m a fiction writer, folks. I write from imagination. I hope that most authors do. It would certainly be problematic for those that write mystery or thrillers !<g>

MBA&M: What scene stands out the most to you in “Fallen Angel” and why?

There are at least three in this book. One is when Angel tears up one of  Shado’s best workout shirts into strips to make a rag rug, one is when she teaches him how to eat maple syrup on snow, and a snowball fight ensues, , and another is when he finally breaks down and releases the demons of guilt and pain that he’s been carrying around for some time. There are some great steamy stuff too, but you’ll have to read the book! LOL

MBA&M: Which character is your favorite in “Fallen Angel” and why?

Probably Shado Jackson , whom I picture looking like Channing Tatum—that in itself explains a lot—but I am drawn to the tormented hero in stories. I don’t know why, maybe I just like the journey of being him saved by the right kind of woman. Angel was unexpected and it turned his self-imposed emotional prison upside down.

MBA&M: How many books will be in the “Tales of the Sweet Magnolia series” and what is next? There are currently two, and I am plotting a third. There are so many possible scenarios for this series!

I would travel to either the Georgian,Victorian or Regency era. I love the simplicity of this era, although, tough eras, seems more relaxed than today. I know you only asked for a era,but I love historicals including Westerns.

Thank you again, what a delight to have you, please come again.
