MBA&M AND ENTANGLED PUBLISHING PRESENTS…..
WELCOME VICTORIA JAMES!
Now, within further ado presenting Victoria James….
MBA&M: Good morning, Victoria! Welcome to My Book Addiction and More.
[VJ] Hi, thanks so much for having me here today!
Please give our readers some insight into Victoria James?
[VJ] I met my husband thirteen years ago in University-in an English Lit class. Two years later we got married, and now we have two children-a two year old and a six year old. My days are busy juggling the responsibilities of our small business, my writing, kids, and household chores. But when I have a free moment, I’m putting my interior design background to use-I’m always rearranging furniture and pictures in our house. I still do freelance work as well. I love seasonal decorating. Basically, I drive my husband nuts, because he hates change…and thing are always changing!
MBA&M: Where did your inspiration for “The Billionaire’s Christmas Baby” come from?
[VJ] I live in Canada, and growing up I adored our snowy winters and white Christmases. I knew I always wanted to be a writer, so writing a book that was set in a remote, snow-filled area during the holidays was too hard to resist…
A few years ago, surrounded by my extended family, I started wondering about how much of whom I was today, was shaped by the people around me. I had always known the love of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins. But what if I hadn’t? How would that have changed me? And that thought triggered the characters in THE BILLIONAIRE’S CHRISTMAS BABY. How would different people react to the holidays if they didn’t have a family? If they had no one? Would they build walls around themselves? Or would they be in a perpetual search for a soul-mate, for love? The hero and heroine that took shape in my mind became larger than life. Their pain, their need for acceptance and unconditional love tugged at my heartstrings until I was forced to find a way to create a happily-ever-after for the three of them! And of course, it would have to take place during the holidays!
MBA&M: What do you feel the allure of contemporary romance is to readers?
[VJ]I think it’s that we can relate to them easily. Contemporary romance deals with characters that we can identify with, that are similar to our everyday friends and family members. The issues in contemporary romance are also identifiable. I think we can derive comfort from knowing that there are others who are going through the same things, people who’ve loved and lost and have come out on the other side.
MBA&M: Who was your favorite character in “The Billionaire’s Christmas Baby”?
[VJ]Well, as much as I loved writing Hannah, I think Jackson is my favorite J His journey and the evolution of his character from beginning to end tugged at my heartstrings. Hmm…Maybe this means I have a crush on Jackson Pierce!
MBA&M What scene stands out the most to you?
[VJ]When Hannah thanks Jackson, after their wedding. I loved writing this scene because it evolved so naturally-she’s about to make a sarcastic comment in order to keep her distance from Jackson, but instead she is overcome by everything he has done for her. She thanks him and I think it’s a turning point for Hannah-she’s finally letting him in. And of course Jackson is surprised by her candor…and well, one thing leads to another…;-)
Victoria, since the Christmas holiday is upon us, let’s talk Christmas…..
MBA&M: What are some of your favorite Christmas things?
[VJ]“Raindrops on roses and…” Sorry, I couldn’t help it! Some of my favorites are spending extra time with family and friends. The decorating, the hustle and bustle at the mall, the pure, uninhibited excitement children have over Christmas. The giving, the extra effort we put into helping those less fortunate. The time we make to remember all our blessings.
MBA&M: What are your favorite Christmas songs?
[VJ]I love the classics-The Christmas Song, I’ll be home for Christmas, I’m dreaming of a White Christmas…
But I do have some contemporary favorites…I love everything from Sarah Mclachlan-especially Wintersong. I love The Pretenders’ Two thousand Miles, Tom Cochrane’s Christmas all the Time.
MBA&M: What are a few of your family’s traditions?
[VJ]Growing up in a North-American-Italian family, the holidays were always filled with an abundance of family, food, and drama. Cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents, would gather. The crowd was loud and the toasts with homemade wine were plenty.
This year, I’m hosting Christmas Eve dinner for approximately fifteen of our nearest and dearest. I have hosted Christmas Eve before, but I haven’t done the full-blown deal. This year, I’m going to cook up a big old, traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner. All seven fish dishes. I can do it…I hope! The day after I told my husband my plan? He bought a fire extinguisher.
MBA&M: If you could be anywhere this holiday season where would it be and why?
[VJ]Anywhere with snow and my family!! I’m not one of those people who want to escape the cold for the hot, sunny beach. It’s not Christmas without subzero temps, and a blanket of the white stuff. I’m a true Canadian girl, I guess!
Thank you for visiting with us and our readers, with Christmas just around the corner we wish you and your family a very MERRY CHRISTMAS…..
Thank you so much for having me, this has been fun!! Merry Christmas to all of you as well!
