My thoughts:

The Highlander’s Viking Bride: Book 2 in the Hardy Heroines series by Cathy MacRae is an awesome Medieval Romance. I was positively entranced and entralled! Can be read as a stand alone.

Calder MacGerry, is the laird of an impoverished clan, but he has decided, after his beloved fathet’s recent death, he would end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclair clans. He accepts Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans. Peace between the two clans is finally on the horizon.

Katja however, is not so sure. She trusts no man, and not many lasse. She been raised around a clan that treats her no respect. She has brothers, of course, who tries to protect her ftom her father’s harsh treatment. She is the best archer in her clans, though.

What starts out as a marriage of hope, soon turns to mistrust and someone in clan MacGerry is trying to run Katja away. She is accepted by her husband’s family with open arms and some others in the clan, however, acidents soon start happening to her. She is poisoned, nearly raped, and set upon by thuds, it’s a good thing she is a fiece lass who can protect herself. Calder is furious when he learns of the things that’s been happening to his new wife. Can love grow from mistrust and hapastance?

“The Highlander’s Viking Bride” is filled with intrigue, mistrust, danger, romance, betrayal and love. It seems when things happen to Katja her husband is not around he’s often trying to increase his clan’s strength, so he’s absent often, he leaves his bride with his brother for her protection.

This story has everything a romance reader could possibly wish to find in a great read. From complex and engaging characters to intriguing plots to a dangerous trek to the Shetlands to finding a true and absolute love and another family she hasn’t seen for many years, her mother’s Viking family. There is a wonderful cast of characters, I can’t wait to read more about their lives.
With mistrust, loneliness, much excitement, forgiveness, love and so much more, readers will be thrilled and excited to read Katja and Calder’s story. I fell in love with them from the very beginning. Fast paced, a definite page turner, with so much to offer readers. Cathy MacRae does not disappoint readers. I hope you will see what I’m talking about and pick up you’re copy.
A definite must read! An extraordinary Medieval Romance!!

The Warlord’s Wife

My debut historical romance transports readers to 12th century Sweden, where a powerful Viking lord will discover a fierce heart cannot be taken by mere force.

Lida was married to the love of her life for just two months when she became a pregnant widow. Disowned by her late husband’s family for suspected infidelity, she was forced to return to her family in shame. Eight years later, uninterested in the prospect of finding another husband, she finds herself the unwilling object of a marriage contract with a powerful warlord. In a day, she is wed, bed, and put on a ship headed for Tronscar; an unknown icy stone and steel fortress.

Jarl Magnus is pleased to have taken a strong wife who, however stubborn she may be, will surely produce sons. However, he is less pleased with his wife’s additional baggage—a young daughter. But despite himself, Magnus falls for the daughter just as hard as the mother, and Lida’s heart is warmed to see the cold, serious Jarl move surprisingly fast into the role of stepfather.

When enemies attack Tronscar, Jarl Magnus’s nerves of steel waver, as the warrior fears his love for Lida will weaken him. But when his family is threatened, he’ll go to war to protect them, discovering along the way that they have the strength to protect themselves.

Meet Sandra Lake…

Sandra Lake was born somewhere in the wilds of Sweden. Surrounded by shirtless, blond men, she learned to sail, swing a sword and skin a bear when she was only three–wait no, that was Davy Crockett…

The real Sandra was raised in rural Canada. (close enough to Sweden) She married her childhood sweetheart (who is blond and on occasion shirtless). They are currently living happily-ever-after along with their kids and unruly husky in Quebec, Canada.

THE WARLORD’S WIFE by Sandra Lake is an unique Historical Romance set in 12th Century Sweden. #1 in the “Sons of the North” Romance, and what a beginning! *A debut author* and one to watch out for in the upcoming months.

This story is unique, has a unique setting, Sweden, it transports the readers to Viking Country, Viking Warlords, and the women who loved them. While, a bit slow to start off, it picks up nicely. Well written with vivid descriptions, interesting, and intriguing characters. The storyline is unique in itself, the setting is very unique, set in Sweden in Viking country. Ms. Lake brings the characters and the story to life via the pages of this unique tale.

Filled with danger, life of a Viking Warlord, his wife, his clan, passion, deceit, betrayal and romance. Well blended with just the right amount of passion, danger, and romance. I enjoyed the connection between the H/H and how the Jarl Magnus grows to love, appreciate and value his wife, Lida, who has been though so much. But lurking in the darkness and in their castle lurks a dangerous, devious foe, one who wishes to bring down both the house of Tronscar and destroy both Lida and Magnus. With a few twists and turns, murder, and deception, Ms. Lake has brought forth a passionate, compelling tale of a Viking Warlord and his beautiful wife, as well as Lida’s little daughter,Katia. While, danger, deception, and betrayal lurks, Magnus is coming to find his HEA, if someone doesn’t take it away first.  An enjoyable and satisfying read! I look forward to the next installment of the “Sons of the North” series. Ms. Lake, a job well done! A worthy read from a worthy debut author!

Glynnis CampbellMBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about Glynnis Campbell they may not know.

GC:  First of all, thanks so much for hosting me today!  I love My Book Addiction readers.  For those who don’t know me yet, I’ve written books under three pen names: Glynnis Campbell, Sarah McKerrigan, and Kira Morgan.  My husband tells people he’s on his third wife!  I’ve had a bunch of offbeat careers—I had my own ballet studio when I was 18, I wrote musical score for science films, I was in an all-girl rock band on CBS Records, and I still do voiceovers.  I’ve done voices for “The Maxx” animated series for MTV, “Star Wars” audio adventures, “JumpStart 1st Grade” software, and “Starcraft” and “Diablo” video games, and I’m planning to do my own audiobooks this year!

MBA&M: What do you feel is the allure of writing about the Dark Ages and Vikings?

GC:  I wrote THE SHIPWRECK because I wanted an origin novella for my Scots medieval trilogy, The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch, and in my mind, the sisters came from a long line of strong women.  The first people to live in Scotland were the Picts, so-called because of the blue pictures they tattooed on their bodies.  Around the time of THE SHIPWRECK, the Vikings had begun to invade and settle Pictland, so there was an intermingling of the cultures.  Their societies, their legends, and their designs began to merge, creating the foundation for what we think of as Celtic.  Vikings also brought to the early Scots the idea that men and women should have an equal hand in government, which became the perfect beginning for my empowered Rivenloch heroines.

MBA&M: Where did the idea of a shipwrecked Viking come from?TheShipwreckFINAL

GC:  I’m often inspired by “what if” ideas.  In the case of THE SHIPWRECK, I started thinking about invading Vikings and how people lived in terror of these giants from the North who arrived with stealth and in great numbers, attacking with ruthless aggression.  But what if, I wondered, an invading longship became shipwrecked, leaving only one Viking survivor washed up on shore?  Suddenly, the tables would be turned.  The invader would become a victim, completely at the mercy of whoever stumbled upon him.  Of course, I instantly knew it would have to be the heroine who stumbled upon him!

MBA&M:  What was your favorite part of writing “The Shipwreck”?  What was the worst part?

GC:  I’d have to say my favorite part was the research!  I have a Danish friend who took me to Denmark to stay with her family for a month.  We scoured Viking museums, saw a Viking play, visited ancient Viking settlements, ate Viking food, drank Viking beer, spoke to Viking reenactors, attended a Viking festival, and even sailed a Viking longship on a fjord!  The worst part of writing THE SHIPWRECK was keeping my heroine Avril’s little daughter from stealing the scenes!  Four-year-old Kimbery was a delight to write, but she kept getting in the way of the romance…much like real children.

MBA&M:  Most authors talk about the main characters, but we would like to talk about a couple of the secondary characters:  Who stands out the most as a secondary character, both male and female?  Why?  Tell us a little about them, and will they eventually have a story of their own?

The heroine’s half-Viking little girl, Kimbery, is really the matchmaker of THE SHIPWRECK.  She’s the first one to see past the hero’s frown and ferocity to the broken man within.  It’s her innocent view of Brandr that finally convinces Avril to move past her own damage and to look at him with an open heart.  The other secondary character is one I put into every book I write—someone named “Campbell” in honor of my husband.  This time I’ve given the ancient name, “Caimbeul,” to Kimbery’s sheep!

MBA&M:  Tell our readers what scene stands out the most in your mind or was your favorite scene.

GC:  I enjoyed writing the scene where Brandr the hero is recounting a Viking saga to the heroine’s little girl.  Though he seems to be simply telling Kimbery a story, he’s secretly sending Avril a don’t-mess-with-me-I’m-a-Viking message, while Avril, determined to ignore his threat, is sending a silent but pointed you-don’t-scare-me-I-have-you-on-a-leash message back.  It was fun to write a scene where the unspoken subtext was just as powerful as the spoken words.

TheShipwreckFINALMBA&M:  In five words or less, describe your writing style.  And describe “The Shipwreck” in five words or less.

GC:  My writing style:  Exciting historical action-adventure romance!  THE SHIPWRECK: Pictish princess captures Viking castaway.

MBA&M:  Thank you so much, Glynnis, for spending time with us and our readers today.  What a pleasure to have you with us!  Now, please tell our readers where they can find you and where “The Shipwreck” is available?

GC:  Thank you for letting me introduce my new novella, THE SHIPWRECK!  Be sure to enter to win one of three free ebooks, and I look forward to visiting again!

Blurb for THE SHIPWRECK:(from the author)

When his wife and children die, Viking marauder Brandr has nothing left to live for, so he sails away on one final voyage.  A storm at sea leaves him shipwrecked, alone, and barely alive on a foreign coastline.  Along the Pictish shore, Avril, a warrior maid and the victim of a Viking berserker, banished from her ancestral home of Rivenloch to a seaside cottage, dreams of the day she’ll raise her sword, take back the castle that is rightfully hers, and find her half-Viking daughter a proper father.  Discovering a broad-shouldered, fair-haired, broken castaway washed up on her beach among the wreckage of his longship, she takes him captive and binds him in chains.  She refuses to be a Viking’s victim again…never imagining that soon her fiercest enemy will earn her trust, invade her heart, and enthrall her senses.
