SEASIDE HEARTS~ MELISSA FOSTER…Book tour with Review and # giveaway

The newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series, featuring a group of fun, sexy, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. You met them in READ, WRITE, LOVE, (The Remingtons, Book 5), follow these friends on their search for forever love in the Seaside Summers series.

Jenna Ward is vivacious, spontaneous, and confident—except when she’s around the man who stole her heart years earlier, strikingly handsome, quiet, and reliable Pete Lacroux. After years of trying to get his attention and overwhelmed from dealing with her mother’s new cougar lifestyle, Jenna’s giving up on Peter—and is ready to explore other men.

As the eldest of five siblings, with an alcoholic father to care for, boat craftsman Pete Lacroux always does the right thing and has no time for a real relationship. He’s looking forward to seeing his friend Jenna, a welcome distraction who’s so damn sexy and so painfully shy that she equally entertains and confuses him.

When Jenna picks up a hard-bodied construction worker, jealousy ignites Pete’s true feelings, and he’s powerless to ignore the desires for Jenna he never realized he had. But Pete’s not the quiet guy he appears to be, and his life is anything but conducive to a relationship. Can Jenna handle the real Pete Lacroux—the sexiest, most passionate alpha male she’s ever seen—or will she crack under pressure? And can Pete reclaim the life he once had without tearing apart his family?

Author: Sharon Page

Release Day!

About An American Duchess:

Set on a crumbling English manor estate during the height of the Roaring Twenties, an American duchess must decide how much she’s willing to risk for the life she truly desires…

It’s 1922, and New York heiress Zoe Gifford longs for the freedoms promised by the Jazz Age. Headstrong and brazen, but bound by her father’s will to marry before she can access his fortune, Zoe arranges for a brief marriage to Sebastian Hazelton, whose aristocratic British family sorely needs a benefactor.

Once in England, her foolproof plan to wed, inherit and divorce proves more complicated than Zoe had anticipated. Nigel Hazelton, Duke of Langford and Sebastian’s older brother, is as austere and imposing as the family’s ancestral estate. Still reeling from the Great War, Nigel is now staging a one-man battle against a rapidly changing world—and the outspoken Zoe represents everything he’s fighting against.

When circumstances compel Zoe to marry Nigel rather than Sebastian, their heated quarrelling begets passion of another sort. But with Nigel unwilling to change with the times, will Zoe be forced to choose between her husband and her dreams?

Guest House Final Cover

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little about yourself?

Hello everyone! I’m a native New Englander, raised in Maine, and now am living in North Carolina with my husband, a biologist, and our two daughters. I’ve been writing novels since I was in high school and submitted 14 different manuscripts over 20 years before getting my first contract with NAL/Penguin. When people ask me my best advice to becoming published, I always say perseverance above all else—and now you know why!

MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind writing “The Guest House”?

I love books set on the water. I grew up near the coast of Maine and the ocean is in my blood and in my soul. There is something about walking the beach, about staring out into the surf and surrendering my thoughts to the sounds and smells and sensation of the ocean that moves me like nothing else. I think there is something inherently romantic about coastal settings/resort towns, because of the transient nature of many of their visitors—the sun and the beach and that sense of time as fleeting and full of possibilities makes for wonderful drama and very passionate affairs of the heart.

MBA&M: How did you pick your setting for “The Guest House”,did Harrisport, the Cape Cod area have special meaning to you?

Growing up in New England, I was fortunate to spend time on Cape Cod, but the real inspiration for The Guest House actually came from a summer I spent on Martha’s Vineyard after my freshman year in college. I worked at a bakery and stayed in an apartment above the stables on the property of a gorgeous, rambling shingle-style house just like the one in The Guest House. I knew the people who lived in the big house so I spent time in it and fell in love with the historic interiors and, of course, imagined all the secrets and stories that had taken place over the years inside it. It was one of those experiences I kept tucked away, but always knew I’d revisit it in a book someday.

MBA&M: Instead of summer fun, you have rivalries, family dramas and of course old love, what was your inspiration behind this plot?

So often my stories evolve out of a single relationship, but I am always drawn to love stories and how we fall in love, how we stay in love, how we find love after losing it, how we do or don’t move on from it. I think many of us find our first loves are often the ones that set the course for our romantic future, and very often our first loves happen when we are young and long before we truly know ourselves and what—or who—we really want. For many of my characters in The Guest House, lost loves have kept them tied to the past—but this summer will bring them unexpected opportunities for new romance and the kind of passionate love they thought was lost to them forever.

MBA&M: What was your favorite spot for summer fun?Your favorite memories of the summer, and your favorite all time gotta have beverage, food, music, etc for the summer?

Oh there are so many! Growing up, we spent so much of our summer days on the beach, since we lived close enough to visit it regularly. I was raised in a wonderful small town, in the village, where there were always kids out playing and summer events and festivals going on or neighbors having big cookouts or picnics. There was a frozen custard stand in town that was a staple and we’d always end up there and see everyone we knew. Most of all, I think summer meant staying up later, which is why my favorite time of day is still dusk in the summer season; that soft, warm night air, the pastel light of the setting sun, the glow of the moon in a not-yet-dark sky, and the knowledge that even as the world is drawing to a close for bedtime, there are still a few extra moments to savor, to sneak in another minute with friends outdoors.

MBA&M: My family and myself enjoy Atlantic Beach,North Carolina on the Eastern seaboard,do you see yourself ever having a novel set in that area?

Absolutely! I have heard wonderful things about Atlantic Beach and it is on my must-see list, for sure! Now that I am living in North Carolina, I am looking forward to shifting the settings of my novel to reflect my new home. I have fallen in love with the Carolina Coast. In fact, I’m now writing my fourth novel which is set on Folly Beach, SC—a place my family and I have been lucky to spend time at in the last few years—and it’s exciting to be writing about new beaches.

MBA&M:If you could have dinner with one of your characters in any of your books or one in your head, who would be your favorite to dine with and why? Where would you go?

What a fantastic question! The character of Camille Bergeron from my first novel, Little Gale Gumbo, immediately comes to mind. She’s a remarkable Creole cook who fled New Orleans with her teenage daughters to escape a bad marriage and found herself on a small island off the coast of Maine where she opens an authentic Creole café! So of course we would have to eat in her Little Gale Gumbo café, and I’d love to sit a while in her company. In the novel, she is such a force of strength and comfort and love and home for all the characters, not just her daughters, but the island residents too—including a divorced single father who she falls in love with—so I can’t imagine a richer meal, in both taste and conversation.

MBA&M: How do you see yourself in 20 years or so?

Having more and more adventures with my precious family—my husband and our two daughters—and, of course, still writing novels about the stories of our hearts.

MBA&M: We are so happy to have you visit with us and our readers today. Please tell our readers where to connect with you and where to purchase “The Guest House”?

It has been such a pleasure to be here, thank you for having me! I love to connect with readers. I am on Facebook (, twitter (@erikamarksauthr) and you can always find me at my website,  I also love speaking with book clubs—either on the phone or via skype. The Guest House and my other novels can be purchased through any of your favorite retailers, such as Amazon and Barnes&Noble, in print or e-book format!

Erika, do you have anything to add today?

I want to wish everyone a wonderful and peaceful summer season. May it be filled with lots of sun and LOTS of great books!

Now, fifteen years later, Lexi has just returned home, secretly nursing a broken heart after another failed romance. The Mango Bride

Oh, WOW! How exciting, Marivi has just stopped by for a quick visit with us and our readers……
Welcome Marivi!

Truth Well Told

People often ask if the events or  characters in my novel are drawn from real life. The short answer is, yes.  I’m constantly watching people, eavesdropping on conversations in cafés or on the street, listening to NPR for anything that might be useful one day in a story.  You might say that writing has made me hyper-aware — why make things up, when you can borrow them from real life, from actual people?

That Dingdong Hello buzzer in the novel’s prologue? I discovered my mother using it  in Manila several years ago, around the time I began  working on The Mango Bride. Before that, she used a buzzer embedded in the floor underneath the head of the table in the formal dining  room.  At dinner parties, my mother would tap on the floor button to  ring a bell in the kitchen. The kitchen’s door was closed, so none of the guests heard the chimes,  but like magic, a maid would emerge from the kitchen to see what needed to be served or cleared away.  When we were kids, we played with that buzzer till it finally broke down.

Yaya Esther, who appears in the prologue as nanny to Señora Concha’s grandchildren is also based on a real person.  Esther cared for me and my three siblings, enforcing afternoon siesta and keeping order in the house until my mother’s diplomat sister lured her away to care for my young cousins in Switzerland.  It’s been decades since she last worked for my family, but Esther still remembers all our birthdays and flew home to attend every one of our weddings.

Naming characters after my friends is a practice I began long before my first book was published:  While working as a copywriter in a large ad agency I  sometimes composed little narrative poems and named the protagonists after my friends, giving them the stories as cheap and cheerful presents.  In like manner,The Mango Bride is populated by friends and relatives  who make cameo appearances as  broadcast journalists, doctors, socialites, diplomats and World War II veterans.

On very rare occasions,  I can insert real people acting as they do in real life.  This happened with Thoth and Lila Angelique, the singing/violin-playing duo that comprise Tribal Baroque.  I’d been wandering around Balboa Park, looking for a free bench on which to write when the most ethereally beautiful melodies drew me to a hallway at the Casa Del Prado.  I ended up sitting on stone steps trying to capture Tribal Baroque’s amazing performance in words.

Years later, I bumped into them again and explained that I’d written them into a scene in my novel.  I  subsequently invited them the San Diego book  launch party: they not only showed up in full costume, but  actually performed a song!

The city of Manila plays a large part in The Mango Bride, for it encompasses what my immigrant characters think of as “home.” Because of this, I took extra pains to describe it as vividly as possible, to help non-Filipino readers understand what my characters were giving up when they moved to America.

I grew up in Manila, studied and taught at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, so creating the setting for the chapters that take place there entailed little more than pulling up memories of the classrooms, acacia trees and  the Christmas Lantern Parade. The Hotel Intercontinental was less familiar, but friends in Manila  helped by emailing photos and detailed descriptions of the hotel. Likewise, even though I’d lived eight years in Oakland, I still needed to refresh my memory by looking at  certain locations in the Bay Area via Googlemaps.

Last of all, there is one anecdote that I hung on to for nearly a decade.  It came in the form of an email forwarded to me by a friend in Manila and it was the hilarious account of a circus elephant’s escape from the Araneta Coliseum.  The elephant somehow broke away from his trainer, stepped through the loading dock  and wandered down a major city thoroughfare.  I laughed so hard over that story that I saved the email message, knowing it would come in useful one day. It now forms a major part of the chapter 20, “Elephant in the Room.”

I’m not going to bed in makeup. If I haven’t frightened him away yet, he can take it. She pinched her cheeks to add some color to the butt-white skin and tried not to look too closely in the mirror. Maybe that’s why God makes your vision fail as you get older. It’s kinder.

She stood before the mirror, buttoning blue flannel pajamas with shaking fingers. Fluffy white cartoon sheep bounced across the material on her chest. Oh, nice. You’re a forty-year old woman, taking a man to your bed for the first time in forever, and this is the best you can do? How sad is that? It’s going to put a damper on the mood if he’s laughing his head off.

It would almost be better to walk out naked. She reached for the top button before she remembered. He’s used to a twenty-year old! Her hand dropped. Better flannel sheep than floppy boobs and a poochy belly. He sure hadn’t traded up in the body department.

Her panicked gaze darted the room, searching for an alternative. My robe! She reached for it. Yellow terrycloth, it covered her from neck to ankle. She looked closer. In spite of numerous Shout applications, the sleeves were stained grey, and snagged strings dangled everywhere; it looked like a shedding bison. A yellow shedding bison.

She groaned.

A soft tap at the door made her jump. “Charla? You okay in there?”

She shot a look to the ceiling. You got me into this. I hope you’re amused. She pulled open the door. . .

And forgot all about what she was wearing. He stood before her shirtless, skin glowing in the light of the table lamp. She’d always loved Jimmy’s chest. Whipcord working muscles under pale skin dusted with dark hair. She followed the line down, to where it disappeared beneath his flashy belt buckle. Her swallow clicked loud in the hushed room.

The book “The Sweet Spot” is a good read. I especially liked the way Laura Drake developed her characters in to dynamic people. She gave life like details to not only the main characters but the secondary ones as well. The only complaint I have is the length of the book – at times it sort of just dragged on and I found myself skimming paragraphs multiple time. Overall, good book with complex plot and characters. Received for an honest review from the publisher.

MBA&M: Welcome to MBA&M! Please tell our readers a little about yourself?

RRM: Hi — thanks so much for having me! I write contemporary romance novels with bold, flawed heroines and strong, sensitive heroes. I like raw stories with a lot of grit and realism and I tend to prefer writing novellas so I can keep the stories tight and fast-paced. I live in Brooklyn, New York with my husband and our two sweet boys, and when I’m not writing, I read like crazy and ride my bike around the city.

MBA&M: What was your inspiration for writing “Hurricane Lily”?

RRM: Hurricane Lily started with this character in my head that stockpiled emergency supplies and was afraid to leave her house. It came to me right after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast of the U.S., and I was thinking about this new reality where weather events like Sandy could become more commonplace. I wanted to tell a story about two very real people facing this reality – one with anxiety and one with anger – and to see what would happen when they clashed against each other.

MBA&M: Who is your greatest inspiration in your writing career?

RRM: At this point in my career, I’d say I’m most inspired by Louis CK, the writer/comedian/director. He does exactly what he wants to do artistically, and what he does is both completely weird and totally original. He’s adamant about his own vision, and I think the best stories come from that place. They might not be perfect, but they are raw and beautifully unique. That’s what I’m aiming for in my writing – something new, independently produced, with a strong voice.

MBA&M: What do you hope readers will gain by reading “Hurricane Lily”?

RRM: I hope they’re entertained and inspired by the love story and I hope they leave the book thinking. I raise a lot of questions in Hurricane Lily, and I hope readers will engage with that and have fun with it.

MBA&M: How much research was involved in writing “Hurricane Lily”?

RRM: I watched a lot of Doomsday Preppers, which was wonderful! I also did some reading about disaster preparedness and talked to a lot of people who’ve worked with anxiety issues. Most of the research I do is toward making sure I really know my characters and depict them accurately. I love doing that kind of research, because even beyond the needs of the book, it helps me understand people better.

MBA&M: Which character do you feel the biggest connection to and why?

RRM: I feel equally connected to Lily and Cliff, actually, which is why I wrote from both of their points of view. Their feelings and worldviews make sense to me, and yet I see how their perspectives have limited their ability to love and be loved. I feel a lot of compassion for them, and also a strong desire to see them overcome their struggles and find happiness and love in their lives.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to connect with you and where they may purchase “Hurricane Lily”?

RRM: Come on by my website! You can find links to all my books there, as well as my blog. I also spend a lot of time chatting with friends and readers on Facebook, so please join me there. I’d love to hear from you all!

While We Were Watching Downton Abbey
Wendy Wax

When the concierge of the Alexander, a historic Atlanta apartment building, invites his fellow residents to join him for weekly screenings of Downton Abbey, four very different people find themselves connecting with the addictive drama, and—even more unexpectedly—with each other…

Samantha Davis married young and for the wrong reason: the security of old Atlanta money for herself and her orphaned brother and sister. She never expected her marriage to be complicated by love and compromised by a shattering family betrayal.

Claire Walker is now an empty nester and struggling author who left her home in the suburbs for the old-world charm of the Alexander, and for a new and productive life. But she soon wonders if clinging to old dreams can be more destructive than having no dreams at all.

And then there’s Brooke MacKenzie, a woman in constant battle with her faithless ex-husband. She’s just starting to realize that it’s time to take a deep breath and come to terms with the fact that her life is not the fairy tale she thought it would be.

For Samantha, Claire, Brooke, and Edward, who arranges the weekly gatherings, it will be a season of surprises as they forge a bond that will sustain them through some of life’s hardest moments—all of it reflected in the unfolding drama, comedy, and convergent lives of Downton Abbey.
