Cowboy Justice

The Making of a Modern Cowboy

Melissa Cutler here, and I’m so excited to be on My Book Addiction and More today talking about my latest release, COWBOY JUSTICE. Actually, who I really want to talk to you about is Vaughn Cooper, the hero of the book and a black Stetson wearing, rural county Sheriff who knows his way around horses as much as he knows his way around guns and the law.

Vaughn has made it his mission in life to rid his county of the good ole boys club that runs things there, particularly the local police chief who he has a long and complicated history with. I love heroes who are on a mission for justice against corruption! It’s one of my favorite tropes. Movies like The Dark Knight and The Devil’s Rejects and TV shows like Arrow have us rooting for the hero to do whatever it takes to purge the world of the evil, even if it’s against the rules. Vaughn is the epitome of a modern gun-slinging sheriff and I know you’re going to love him.

But this is a romance novel, right? So who would a modern gunslinger be without a tough, pistol packing cowgirl who’s stolen his heart? Rachel, the heroine of the story, is Vaughn’s ex-lover and never quite got over the man who made her every bedroom fantasy come true. When she lands herself in a heap of trouble, Vaughn is the only one who can help her. You know the sparks are going to fly with these two and they don’t stop flying for the whole of the book.

COWBOY JUSTICE is in stores and e-retailers now. I hope you’ll give this sexy, intense modern western a try…

Thank you, Melissa for spending time with us and our readers today!!

Cowboy JusticeFrom the Back Cover:

She can’t help but fall for the sexy sheriff—again…

Rachel Sorentino’s first regret about shooting at the vandals targeting her property is that her aim wasn’t better. Her second is that when bullets started flying, it was Sheriff Vaughn Cooper’s number she dialed. Vaughn is the mistake she keeps on making, and no matter how inconvenient their attraction—for his career, her tangled case, and their already battered hearts—there’s no denying what feels so irresistibly right…

Here’s the scene from COWBOY JUSTICE:

“That’s what I’m trying to tell you,” Vaughn said to Rachel. “Everything’s changed for me, but I’m trapped. If I recuse myself now from your case, the first thing that’ll happen is Meyer and his men will start digging around to find out why. And they won’t have to dig far. People in town are already spreading rumors about you and me.”

“You’d lose your job.”

“Maybe, but I don’t even care about that anymore. What I have to care about is that the people of this county entrusted me with enforcing their laws. If the truth came out about our involvement, all the interviews and evidence I’ve collected could be labeled as tainted in the eyes of the court. If a judge threw it all out, a conviction would be nearly impossible and I would’ve failed the people I vowed to protect. I can’t live with that. I’ve been wracking my brain since the afternoon of the shooting, but I can’t see how it’s possible to do my job the way it needs to be done and still have what I want.”

Rachel dragged her eyes away from the horses to fully regard him. “What is it that you want?”

Oh, baby. “Do you really have to ask?”

“Yeah, Vaughn, I’d really like to know because I can’t figure it out.”

How could she not know? Maybe she needed to hear it from him, was all. Wouldn’t change a damn thing, but if she needed it said out loud, then he could cowboy up and lay bare his heart, the same as she had. He strode to her and settled his hands on her shoulders. Her proud, stubborn chin raised a notch. Her brown eyes were glassy with moisture, but just as stubbornly set.

“I want you. I’ve always wanted you.”
