MBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about yourself?

STEPHANIE: After writing 18 complete manuscripts and 9 partials, I sold my first book in 2004. I’ve sold more than twenty since then, and I’m been published in an assortment of genres. I am currently focusing on my paranormal romances and romantic suspenses, and my contemporary teen fiction. I also have a new non-fiction book out called THE FEEL GOOD LIFE, which is about getting through the tough times in life. My life kind of imploded a few years ago, and, as it turns out, it’s not always that easy to stay positive when life is crumbling down around you. Who knew? I spent a lot of time figuring out ways to feel better, to feel good enough to get up in the morning and make an effort to change things, and the book is a compilation of the assorted blogs and essays I wrote during that time. If there is one thing that I could do with my writing, it would be to bring light into someone’s life. I believe we all deserve to feel good about ourselves and our lives, no matter what’s going on in them, and I also know that sometimes that really tough to accomplish. If my own journeys can help, or if becoming immersed in one of my romances can give someone a respite from what they’re facing, then that’s biggest gift I could ask for. That’s why I write romances, because I believe that we all need to have that dream of a happily ever after, and we need to remember why it’s okay to have hope and believe that things are going to be okay. Romances always give you that happy ever after, no matter how tough things get in the middle, and I think that’s a reminder and a lift we all need sometimes.

MBA&M: Stephanie, what are the challenges in writing a paranormal romance series?

STEPHANIE: I think the challenges of writing a paranormal romance series are similar to writing any kind of romance series. One of the biggest challenges is to hold true to the rules and facts that you establish in each book. By the time the author is writing book 3 or 4 or 10, she may wish that she could go back and change something in book 1 so she can write what she wants in book 10. Unfortunately, that’s usually not an option (although with super creative thinking, sometimes that can be accomplished!), so the author has to work within the boundaries she has created. At the same time, sometimes that makes it easier, because she doesn’t have to keep reinventing new worlds and new rules: so much is already in place! Other challenges are knowing how much backstory to share in each successive book: you need enough so new readers can follow the story, but not so much that old readers are bored. It can be a tough thing to balance! The third big challenge is finding that balance by delivering a new, fresh story that still carries forth the same read that defined the earlier books. How much can you deviate to keep each story feeling fresh, while not changing so much that you disappoint readers? All these are tough balances to which there are no real right answers.

MBA&M: Will “Hold Me If You Can” be in last in the “Soulfire Series” or will we see more on this series?

STEPHANIE: The fourth book in the series, SEIZE WITH YOUR KISS will be coming out this summer. It’s Christian’s story, and I’m so excited to see him finally get his happily ever after. He’s been suffering for three books, and he deserves it!

MBA&M:  Stephanie, what are some of your future project(s)?

STEPHANIE: I have quite a busy 2012 scheduled! First up is the ebook release of my Alaska Heat romantic suspense series, which was originally published in paperback in 2009. ICE will be out this week, and CHILL will be out in early February. Late February is the launch of my new dark, sexy paranormal series Order of the Blade, and there will be three books in that series out this year. The series is darker, sexier and more suspenseful than the SOULFIRE series, and the warriors are armed, dangerous and mate for life. Summer will see the release of book four of the Soulfire series, SEIZE WITH YOUR KISS, and in the fall will be a new book from my Immortally Sexy paranormal romance series. Late 2012 will also showcase two more teen books that are re-releases of books that were published a few years ago. So, lots of exciting things!

I also have a new book out called THE FEEL GOOD LIFE that I’m so excited about. It’s a non-fiction book that evolved from my personal journey over the last four years to get my life back together after it imploded. The book acknowledges that life is hard, that tough things happen that we can’t always fix, but we deserve to still be able to wake up in the morning and not feel a huge weight in our chests. The book is filled with the things I did to help myself pull myself together and start to shift how I felt, to feel better, to be able to look around and realize that everything was going to be okay, in some way or another. Honestly, it totally sucks to feel awful, and if I can help one person get through a day more easily, then that’s a gift I will cherish. This book is the kind of book I want people to give to the people in their lives who are struggling through something tough, because we all deserve to feel better, no matter how much the world is crashing down around us. If my journey can help others, then it’s worth everything I went through.

MBA&M:  Who is your biggest hero, be it character, person, or animal? Why?

was never held back by worries that others wouldn’t agree with his vision. He went forward, at all times, with belief and conviction, STEPHANIE: I would have to say my dad. He was a very courageous man and accomplished things in life without anyone there to support him, especially as a young man. He was a vivid and inventive thinking, always seeing the world from new angles that no one else had thought of. He was never afraid to think outside the box, and he and he was never afraid to fail.

MBA&M: Stephanie, can you tell our readers 3 top reads that you feel influenced your writing style for paranormal romance?

STEPHANIE: Katie McAlister was my first real exposure to paranormal romance, and I really enjoyed her humorous take on life. I also love Christine Feehan’s emotional intensity, and, although Lisa Kleypas doesn’t write paranormal romance, her historical romances are the most beautiful love stories and a great standard try to hold for my own stories.

MBA&M:  Stephanie, a bit of fun…what are some of your favorite movies, books, interests, hobbies, and your passion?

STEPAHANIE: My three biggest things that I spend time on these days are my daughter, my writing and exercise/tennis. After that, there’s not much time left! I do fit in reading, and my favorite genre has always been historical romances. I love the beautiful love stories, and being transported into another time and place. I also read a lot of paranormal romances as well, but sometimes I have difficult losing myself in the book because I’m too busy analyzing it, since that’s what I write. Since I don’t write the historicals, I am always able to read those from the pure enjoyment standpoint of a reader.

Publisher:Sourcebooks Casablanca (January 1, 2012)

Book Description(from Amazon)

Publication Date: January 1, 2012
“A steamy, imaginative series that hits all the right marks…readers will be captivated.” -Larissa Ione, New York Times bestselling author of Eternal Rider
It’s unfortunate for Natalie that Nigel Aquarian is so compelling. With his inner demons, his unbridled heat, and his “I will conquer you” looks, he calls to her in exactly the way that nearly killed her.
That he’s an immortal warrior and that her powers rise from intense passions would seem to make them a match made in heaven, but unless they embrace their greatest fears, they’ll play out their final match in hell.
With a unique voice that critics say, “carves out her own niche-call it paranormal romance adventure comedy,” Stephanie Rowe delivers an irresistible pair of desperadoes dancing on the edge of pure temptation.
