Q&A with author Devan Sipher and giveawa..

Today we at MBA are proud to welcome author Devan Sipher! Please sit back and enjoy our chat.

MBA&M: Devan, please tell our readers a few tidbits about yourself.

Devan: I was born in Los Angeles, grew up in the Midwest and have lived in New York for two decades.  The result is I talk fast, hold doors open for women, and like wearing shorts and flip-flops whenever possible.

MBA&M: Where did the idea for THE WEDDING BEAT come from?

Devan: For five years, I was a writer of the Vows wedding column at The New York Times.  As a 40-something, single guy writing about other people’s weddings, it occurred to me that my life would seem far more amusing to someone who wasn’t living it.

MBA&M: Did you do any research before writing THE WEDDING BEAT?

Devan:My research was mostly just doing my work at the Times. I also read a lot of romance and romantic comedy books, from Nicholas Sparks to Helen Fielding.  I wanted to fully immerse myself in the genre.

MBA&M: Which of the characters in THE WEDDING BEAT do you most identify with and why?

Devan: The main character in The Wedding Beat is also a single guy writing a wedding column for a major newspaper.  So we have a bit in common.  For the record, I’m taller, but he gets the girl in the end, which is something I’m still working on.

MBA&M: What is on the horizon for you and your writing career?

Devan: I have a two-book deal.  So I’m writing the second book, which I’m not supposed to say a lot about, but I can say it’s about two people who make a lot of wrong turns on their way to finding each other.  The tagline is “Sometimes love at first sight can take a lifetime.”

MBA&M: Who is the hero/heroine in your life? Why?

Devan: My grandmother is 96 years old and still runs three miles every day.  She is living proof of the power of positive thinking – and I only hope I’ve inherited some of her genes.

MBA&M: What are some of your favorite things to do when relaxing?

Devan: I love taking long walks along the water.  I live in Manhattan, and I like to remind myself as often as possible that I live on an island.  I’ve even been known to take a midnight run along the Hudson River on a balmy night.

MBA&M: Tell us where to find you and where to find THE WEDDING BEAT?

Devan: My Web site is www.devansipher.com, and there are links to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks and Indiebound.  You can also follow me on Twitter @DevanSipher or get the latest news at www.facebook.com/DevanSipher

Devan, do you have anything to add?

Interviewing thousands of brides and grooms has given me the opportunity to learn many things.  The most important is that happiness is a choice.  The Wedding Beat is my lighthearted way of sharing that message.

Thank you for visiting with us and our readers today!!!

Everyone please bare with us.

Hello Everyone. Please bare with us if posts are late or a bit different. My mom, AprilR, who usually handles the blog posts and such had surgery last Thursday. She is doing good, but doesn’t feel up to being online so I’m playing her part for a few days. So I have to find everything and figure out what goes where and when. Please bare with us and keep sending her good thoughts and prayers.

Nina Croft grew up in the north of England. After training as an accountant, she spent four years working as a volunteer in Zambia which left her with a love of the sun and a dislike of 9-5 work. She then spent a number of years mixing travel (whenever possible) with work (whenever necessary) but has now settled down to a life of writing and picking almonds on a remote farm in the mountains of southern Spain.

Nina writes all types of romance often mixed with elements of the paranormal and science fiction.

Things I love about Category romance.

When I heard that my fantastic publisher, Entangled Publishing, was starting up the Indulgence line of category style contemporary romances, I decided then and there that I wanted to be part of it. And I am! Blackmailed by the Italian Billionaire, my first contemporary category romance was released in March this year.

I started reading category romances at an early age. I was a voracious reader, and I was always running out of things to read. My mother read these romances and she had hundreds of them around the house (and in fact, one of my earliest memories of my mother is her lying on the sofa reading a romance—she’s always been my role model!) So I thought, if only I can start reading them—I need never run out of books again.

Of course, I was wrong—I still ran out (unsurprising, as on a good day, I could devour four or five) but each month new ones would arrive. So started my lifelong love of romance, and while I read all sorts these days (and I’m particularly fond of paranormal and sci-fi) I still have a soft spot for my first love—contemporary category romance.

So here’s Wikipedia’s definition of category romance:

“Category romances are short, usually no more than 200 pages, or about 55,000 words. The books are published in clearly delineated lines, with a certain number of books published in each line every month. In many cases, the books are numbered sequentially within the line….

…category romance lines each have a distinct identity, which may involve similar settings, characters, time periods, levels of sensuality, or types of conflict.”

So what do I love about category romance and why has my love affair lasted so long? Here are a few things that come to mind:

  • I know what I’m going to      get. Within a particularly line I can be guaranteed certain things. If I’m      in the mood for sweet romance, I know which line to go for. While if I’m      in the mood for an alpha male and some sizzling love scenes, then there      are lines for that too. Something for every mood.
  • Gorgeous heroes and exotic      locations…
  • While the basic stories      remain the same, category romances are in fact always evolving, they’re      current, and up to date, and actually constantly changing as the readers      change.
  • They’re short and can be      read at one sitting—I love reading books in one go.
  • They’re pure romance. I      love most genres of books, but sometimes I just want the romance! Because      of the relatively short word counts of category books, there’s no room in      them for complex sub-plots, so the focus always remains on the hero and      heroine’s relationship—they can be very intense.
  • Every month there are new      stories coming out.
  •  And of course—most important—I always get      a happy ever after.

**So what do you love best about category romance? Let me know for a chance to win a copy of Blackmailed by the Italian Billionaire.**

Victoria Connelly’s first novel, Flights of Angels was chosen as one of five titles to be promoted by Random House, Germany, to celebrate World Book Day and was also adapted into a TV movie.  Her novel Molly’s Millions was a runner-up in the 2006 Elizabeth Goudge Award, and in 2009 was published as a lead title in the UK by Allison & Busby and chosen as a “hot pick” in Closer magazine. Her new trilogy, featuring Jane Austen addicts, is her first foray into Jane Austen related fiction. Connelly lives in London, England.

MBA&M: Give our readers some insight into the challenges, authernicty, and research required in writing a historical fiction/romance?

Some writers love research and some hate it.  I love it because it provides me the opportunity to learn new things about subjects I might never have chosen to study otherwise.  For my Jane Austen Addicts Trilogy, the research was pure joy.  I am a life-long Austen fan so rereading all her novels and watching the many wonderful film adaptations was hardly a tough day at the office for me.  I revelled in it and, if my husband came in when I was watching Colin Firth emerging from the lake yet again, I could honestly tell him that I was working.

I also had the joy of reading Jane Austen’s letters to her sister and some of the biographies about her life.  I visited the places associated with her – spending many a happy hour at the Jane Austen House Museum in Chawton, Hampshire, staying in the seaside town of Lyme Regis and walking the streets of the Georgian city of Bath.  I even got to stay in ‘Barton Cottage’ – the house that was used in the 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility and I wrote part of Mr Darcy Forever whilst there, using the setting in my book.

Another highlight was taking part in the Jane Austen Festival in Bath.  Although I didn’t wear a costume, I met dozens of people who had travelled from all over the world to be there because of their love of Jane Austen.  It was a real insight into the fan base that this author has and really humbling as an author to see that these stories are still loved over 200 years after them first being published.

Rebecca Sinclair ~ www.rebeccasinclair.com

Historical Romance Author

Good morning Rebecca and welcome to My Book Addiction and More….

G’morning, and thank you for having me here at My Book Addiction and More…. I’m so excited to be here!  I do hope you realize when I say “morning” I really mean it. According to my clock it’s, let’s see, 12:28am, and I’ve just gotten up to get some work done. Of course, by the time I finish writing all this up it will be much later…however, knowing me, it’ll probably still be “morning!” As in the sun has not yet come up and there’s still so much to do!  🙂

MBA&M: Please give our readers a few tidbits about Rebecca Sinclair?

REBECCA: Okay. Here’s something few people know about me: When I first started writing all those many years ago, I was considered prolific. I mean, I wrote long historical romances to the tune of two books per year, if not more! These days I’m a more careful, thoughtful writer—and by that I don’t necessarily mean slow. I prefer to take my time and really savor both the research and the writing stages of putting a book together. I’m no longer in a rush to “pump books out”, nor do I have anyone, shall we say “encouraging” me to do so. Instead, I feel have earned the luxury of writing at my own pace, finally, and I’m absolutely loving it!

MBA&M: What do you think the appeal of romance is to readers?

REBECCA: Hmmm…. You mean aside from a hero to-die-for in both mind and body? And a heroine who epitomizes all the qualities we only wish we had? As well as settings of exotic locales that make us as a reader forget, even for just a minute, that dirty diapers need to be changed, or business files need to be transcribed, or dissertations to be ordered from some custom dissertation writing service I used to work for myself a while ago? Then, of course, while there’s a guaranteed HEA, there’s no guarantee of how it’s arrived at…which brings into play all kinds of hair-raising, spine-tingling, toe-curling adventures. Mix in a delicious dose of intimacy, spiced-to-taste, and several unexpected bumps in the always-complicated relationship road, and you’ve got—  <ahem!> I’m sorry, maybe I didn’t understand the question. You see, from my point of view, what isn’t appealing about a good romance?

MBA&M: Which do you enjoy writing more Contemporary, Medieval, Time-Travel or Young Adult?

REBECCA: Whichever I’m writing at the moment. I make it a practice to fall in love with my w-i-p and the characters in it. While I’m working on it, the current project is always my favorite.

MBA&M: We see you are coming off of a ten year sabbatical, how hard was it to get back into writing and how do you see things are changing?

REBECCA: It wasn’t hard to go back to writing. That came as natural as breathing. Going back to publishing, OTOH, was something else again. From what I can see, I think it’s safe to say everything has changed. EBooks, which had just scratched the surface back then, are exploding and finding an ever-growing audience ten years later. Social media now works as its own branch of the marketing arm. And Amazon publishes its own books! New York publishers require manuscripts to be sent digitally, and many agents even prefer to be queried that way. Acceptances/rejections are virtually instantaneous. There are whole communities available to writers today—from casual to uber-professional—that can be taken advantage of without getting out of your Pj’s, any hour of the day/night.

These are things I only dreamt of when I started networking on my computer back in the 80s. You know, back when there wasn’t a Web that most people today would recognize, when no one had heard of Amazon because they hadn’t started selling books yet, and Google was still a thing of the future. I’m told dinosaurs were also roaming the earth then, but I couldn’t tell you; I was too busy writing to notice (Oh, and playing around online—yes, there was an “online”, even then, if you knew how to find it!)

It looks like once the cyber world took over; everything started changing at an astonishing rate publishing included. I can’t see it slowing down any time soon. Just the opposite, I see it speeding up.

MBA&M:Out of all of your books which is your favorite and why?

REBECCA: My next one. Because it’s going to be oh, so much better than all the ones that came before it. (Like every writer, this is my mantra every time I start a new book. ha-ha!)

MBA&M: When you do a series do you have each book in mind before you start writing or as you go?

I think I’m the only writer these days who doesn’t do series. Lol! While a couple of characters in my early books are related, I don’t even do cross-overs. All my books are stand alones.

MBA&M: Where do your ideas come from?

Urg! I was afraid you’d ask that. To be honest, I have a devil of a time coming up with ideas. I mean, I really, really struggle. The process can take weeks, months, sometimes longer!  While I can look tell you where I got the idea for each of my published books (the sources are wild and varied) I can’t tell you where I’ll even begin to look for my next idea. Sometimes a fact in a history book fascinates me and I’ll start digging, wanting to know more. Sometimes a tidbit in a documentary on TV catches my eye and gets me off and running. But many, many more times I get the basic kernel of an idea from something I’ve misread or misheard or in some insane way that is intrinsically my own, completely and totally misunderstood.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where your books are available?

Sure. I try to keep my website updated (http://www.rebeccasinclair.com). Tip: make sure to always check all the way down to the bottom of the page! 😉  Also, I’m slowly reprinting my old books in digital format through “ePublishing Works!” who, together with Kim Killion on cover designs, are doing an amazing job. The books can be found at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iTunes, Kobo…just about anywhere eBooks are sold.

Rebecca, is there anything you would like to add?

Yes! I’m not sure how long it will last (I don’t have any say in pricing), but for right now California Caress is on sale for $2.99 at Amazon. For anyone who has wanted to try one of my books, this is an excellent chance to do so at almost half price.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit with us and our readers today at My Book Addiction and More!!

Hey, it was my pleasure. I had a great time. Thank you so much for having me!  I hope you noticed that I tried to keep my answers short and to-the-point, however if there’s one thing I’ve always excelled at, it’s going over word count!  🙂

As always, readers, thank you for spending time with us and our guest today!!

Good morning Diane, and welcome to My Book Addiction and More today….

MBA&M: Please give our readers a few tidbits about yourself?

Diane: Hi! Thank you so much for having me here today. I’m married to Tom and we met while teaching at an orphanage in Ohio. We celebrated our 36th anniversary last August by going on our first cruise together. I’m the mother of 6 – 5 daughters and 1 son. Our first grandson was born in January and he’s a cutie. I write contemporary romance, inspirational romance, chick-lit mystery, women’s fiction and historical fiction.

MBA&M: What made you decide to write contemporary romance?

Diane: I started writing nonfiction but thought it would be a fun escape to write fiction. Once I decided to do this, I thought of characters I wanted to write about in a contemporary setting. I enjoy researching careers for my characters. I finished writing an Amish romance (waiting to hear about the requested partial from an agent), and it was interesting to write this as a contemporary romance with the Amish staying apart from our modern and technical conveniences.

MBA&M: What are the challenges in writing in today’s market?

Diane: One main challenge is trying to promote effectively. I spend a lot of time on marketing, but I might not see an increase in sales. It can be overwhelming when I’d rather use my time to focus on my writing.

MBA&M: If you could change places with any of your characters who would it be and why?

Diane: I’d change places with my character, Whitney. She’s a fun person but has a lot of depth with the tragedy she has experienced. She is not a wimp and overcomes two main fears in my book, Whitney In Charge. I also think it’d be wonderful to be a TV news producer like Whitney is.

MBA&M: If you weren’t writing what would you be doing (thanks,by the way for your stories)?

Diane: I’d like to volunteer at a hospital. While in high school, I was a Candy Striper and loved it. But I haven’t volunteered because I’m a slow writer, and I have a part-time job scoring the tests that students hate to take. Also we have two daughters at home with special needs.

MBA&M: Which character in your books do you feel you most identify with and why?

Diane: I identify the most with Debby Reeves in A CHRISTMAS GIFT because it’s based on a true childhood experience. The prologue and epilogue is written in adult Debby’s point of view while the rest of the book is in the POV of seven-year-old Debby’s. The child Debby is a lot like I was growing up on a farm. Like Debby I know God answers our prayers.

MBA&M: What is something you would like to accomplish in your writing career that you have not yet done?

Diane: I’d love to write a series. Writing screen plays have always been something that interests me too. I was a play director while I taught high school students and loved it.

MBA&M: Who is your biggest hero be it person, character? Why?

Diane: My biggest hero is my husband, Tom, because he’s been the love of my life for many years. We have been through hard times and good times together. When I received rejections from agents and editors for my manuscripts, he always gave me his love and support. My hero Luke in my inspirational romance, NO GREATER LOSS, is a lot like Tom. Both men are good-looking, spiritual, caring, loving, strong and funny. Two of our children were born with Down syndrome, and he’s great helping me meet their challenges in life.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where to find your books?

Diane: I can be found here: http://www.dianecraver.com, and http://www.dianecraver.com/blog

All my books can be found on :Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?_encoding=UTF8&sort=relevancerank&search-alias=books&ie=UTF8&field-author=Diane%20Craver)

Also on the publishers’ websites. Many are also on Barnes & Noble and other online stores.

Diane, do you have anything you would like to add?

Diane: Please visit my website and blog to learn more about my writing. I have frequent contests on my blog.

Thank you for visiting with us and our readers on My Book Addiction and More!!

MBA&M: Tell our readers a little about Jennipher Zulu?

JANE:   I’m Zambian by birth and citizenship. I started writing in 1996; but it was still just for fun back then. I only started publishing my work last year, after leaving my last job; that is when I had proper time on my hands to do some writing.

MBA&M: What where the challenges in writing”Life’s Purpose”?

JANE:  First, I knew that I wanted my work published this time, but I didn’t know where to start from, or who to approach; so it took me quite some time to find my publisher. Second, unlike my old writing, I now had to learn and incorporate professional writing; taking into account the ‘dos and don’ts’, formatting, alignment, covers etc. All in all, I really had to learn writing from scratch- except for the ideas of course.

MBA&M: Why write a book self-discovery type book?

The period that I wrote this book, is a period that I did a lot of soul searching and I can say, much of what is in this book is remedy for my soul search. It’s a time that I looked to see who Jane is, what her purpose in life is and consequently, what Jane is going to do in life. But I also realized, that that there are many people out there who are facing, or going through this same period; of really, trying to understand their being; who they really are and what their life’s purpose is. And unfortunately, I think there are many people out there, who are living life as prescribed by day to day circumstances; life’s winds simply blows them in any direction and they go along. I believe that, we all want to have some control over our lives, or at least have some sense of direction as to where we are going, what we want to achieve etc and we all want our lives to have some meaning and value, so as to leave a mark, signature, or print of some kind. So, I wrote Life’s purpose,in the hope of helping others out there, through this quest; as I believe that, if one does not understand his/her purpose in life, they’ll live their lives forever asking these questions. And I also believe that many people go into crisis, because because they don’t understand who they are enough to know their value. They are always in a quest to be like others, or to adopt other people’s lives and when they don’t live up to those standards, they simply fall into crisis.

MBA&M: Do you feel there is a wide audience in today’s reader market for self-discovery or Christian non-fiction book? Why?

Life’s Purpose is especially relevant for anyone who is still trying to figure out who he/she is and where to go in life.  And also, in my part of the world; yes, there is a wide market. As Africans, we’ve been scrambling to adopt other cultures and live lives as we assume we ought to; as stipulated, by the standards of the cultures we are adopting. For a long time, we have overlooked our uniqueness and identities; that is putting aside the negatives. I believe that, as we are developing, we have reached a time, when we have to define ourselves. This is a message that is echoing around the region and ‘Life’s Purpose’, bears a loud message, that is relevant to fuel this process. However, this does not mean that it is only for Africans, but I believe it is relevant for even an American, Japanese or any other person out there on a quest to self discovery. Besides, these are messages preached in churches around the world; self belief, self value, destiny etc Thus, yes, I believe there is a wide market Christian non-fiction; yes I also think there’s market out there because I think, when it comes to ministry; every gift should be a channel and the church family is there to give the support; that is when you market from church to church.
MBA&M: What is the one thing you would like to accomplish in your writing career?
JANE:   I want to be relevant to the world’s needs; provide solutions and answers; when and where need arises and I also just want to find fulfillment and in the end; become a big na
MBA&M: Where did the idea of “Life’s Purpose” come from?
JANE:  .

As earlier discussed, Life’s purpose was a remedy to my own quest

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where “Life’s Purpose” is available?

JANE: I am from Zambia in Africa, my

Product Description(From Amazon)

This is a motivational book meant to inspire self discovery and the appreciation of self worth. Many of us, are not contributing or giving out as we ought to because we do not know who we really are; what is deposited inside of us and thus, we do not know what and how much we can give out. And some of us are doing things they are not called for, just in the name of having a ‘job’ and thus, not contributing to the fullest potential. As a remedy for real success, one needs to know first, who he or she is, what he or she is and his or her worth and value. This book emphasizes the uniqueness and relevance of each person and how we each have a place and role to take up and play in life.

Good morning and welcome to My Book Addiction and More…
MBA&M: Give our readers some insights into Jeannie Walker, please?
Walker:  Most of the reading and writing I did was in school. Growing up on a farm didn’t leave a lot of time for anything else except tending to farm animals. Any spare time I got, I spent outside sitting under a big oak tree enjoying nature and reading a good book. A master writer once told me, “If you want to become a good author, reading a lot of books will help you become a good writer.”
MBA&M: Where did the idea of “FIGHTING THE DEVIL” come from?
Walker: It came from a real-life scenario with the arsenic poisoning murder of my ex-husband and the pursuit of justice to find his killers.
MBA&M: What character is your favorite in “FIGHTING THE DEVIL”?Why?
Walker: Sheriff Jake Bogard is my favorite – He was a very colorful person, but also a very devoted lawman and a real-life Marshall Dillon. The Sheriff reminded me of the lawmen of long ago; like Wyatt Earp and Marshall Matt Dillon of the TV show GUNSMOKE, who would jump on their horses and chase down the bad guys.  Sheriff Bogard’s deputy was also a real-life “Festus”.  I dedicated my book to Sheriff Jake Bogard. He passed away before seeing any justice in the murder case.
MBA&M: I understand “FIGHTING THE DEVIL” is a true story, how hard was it write this amazing story?
Walker: It was incredibly hard to write. Writing it brought back a lot of bad memories and the injustice that oft times happens in the Criminal Justice System.
MBA&M: In telling your story to another crime victim of how you fought for justice what would be the first thing you would advise them to do?
Walker: Don’t give up!  It is my hope that anyone who reads my book will come to the realization that they are not alone in their struggles, no matter how big or small. And that they have the ability to overcome and the right to become their loved one’s advocate, and if necessary to become their own, real-life Sherlock Holmes.
MBA&M: How has this horrific event changed you and your family’s lives forever?
Walker: My children lost their father in a horrific way. I lost my best friend. This case is still an open murder case, as the main suspect (the widow) has yet to be tried or convicted for her part in the heinous murder. The good news is that there is no time limit on murder.
MBA&M: Did you get much backlash for writing “FIGHTING THE DEVIL”?
Walker: No, people wanted me to write the story. Some even begged me to write a book about it, after seeing the story on TV.
MBA&M: How did your family and other loved ones feel about you telling your story?
Walker: Some of my family wanted me to tell only parts of the story. But, a true story has to contain the facts, and the good with the bad.
MBA&M: What where the challenges in writing ‘FIGHTING THE DEVIL”?
Walker: Condensing three file cabinets full of binders loaded with medical records, police reports, trial transcripts and other information into an informative, interesting and entertaining concept for the reader.
MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where “FIGHTING THE DEVIL” is available.
Walker:  My true crime story is available many places.  My Author Website at: http://jeanniewalkerbooks.com
Jeannie, do you have anything else to add today?
I would like to thank you and your readers for the kindness, valuable time and the opportunity to tell you about my true crime story.
Jeannie, it must have been very rewarding while exhausting fighting for justice. My heartfelt congratulations go out to you on your courage, bravery, and your desire for justice.

Description(from the author’s website)

A Texas millionaire rancher discovered his wife and bookkeeper had stolen thousands of dollars from him. After he demanded the money back, he started getting sick. While in the hospital, doctors were mystified as to how an otherwise healthy, energetic man could become so deathly ill. The dying man told everyone within earshot that his wife and bookkeeper were killing him. The man’s wife said her husband was hallucinating from drugs the doctors were giving him. The millionaire rancher succumbed in the hospital while strapped down to his bed with restraints on his hands and feet and tubes in every orifice. After the rancher died, an anonymous caller tipped off the police. The widow was the sole beneficiary of the estate and a $350,000 life insurance policy. A week before the man’s death, a teenager visited the rancher’s home and became deathly ill after he drank juice that was in the rancher’s refrigerator. Two years after the millionaire’s death, a bottle of arsenic was found in a storage locker rented by a woman under an assumed name. The millionaire’s ex-wife, the mother of his children, became a sleuth to help solve the murder. No one could have predicted the aftermath with its strange twists, unexplained phenonema and  unexpected results.

Jillian Fitgerald, whose grand house had 60 rooms, grew up together with Frankie Maguire, the kennel keeper’s son, in Northern Ireland. That she was rich and he was poor did not daunt their dreams of someday marrying. But Jillian was headed for a privileged life and the university. Frankie, drawn into the nationalist cause, faced a charge of murder and the dark walls of a jail cell.

With their lives torn apart, there seemed no chance for Jillian and Frankie. But the heart owns knowledge to which the mind is not privy. Generations before, an Irish princess, Eleanor “Nell” Fitzgerald, her family killed, her life in jeopardy, her beloved torn from her arms, was preparing to reach out to another woman who shared her heritage…a woman in another century. Now, from the court of Henry VIII to the violent streets of modern Belfast, Nell and Jillian will become two souls joined in one courageous battle to prove that neither prison bars nor the hands of time can stop the power of love

Good morning Tracey and welcome to My Book Addiction and More!

MBA&M: Tell our readers a few tidbits about Tracey Devlyn?

Tracey: Thank you so much for having me. I look forward to chatting with everyone. As for tidbits about me…I love animals. Right now, I have a 1.5-year-old Doberman rescue pup and a small pond full of Koi and other pretty fish. I’m a nature nut. Love to hike around our local, state, and national parks. So many beautiful places to visit. Hmm, what else? Oh, I don’t go anywhere without a tube of lip balm and a couple tissues. I’ve also saved petals from every rose my husband has ever given me.

MBA&M: What was the most challenging thing in writing “A LADY’S REVENGE”?

Tracey: Being at peace with writing outside the norm. I tried to write around the opening scene of A Lady’s Revenge several times, because I was afraid historical romance readers would be turned off by its gritty nature. However, the story’s suspenseful plot and she-won’t-go-there uniqueness seems to be drawing readers, rather than repelling them.

MBA&M: Where did the idea of “A LADY’S REVENGE” originate?

Tracey: The story originated from what I call a flash scene, which is nothing more than a glimpse of a woman strapped to a blood-encrusted table in what was obviously a dungeon. From there, A Lady’s Revenge was born.

MBA&M: What is on the horizon for you and your writing?

Tracey: At the end of February, I finished the second book in the Nexus series. Checkmate, My Lord will hit the shelves and e-readers February 2013. Once I finish promoting A Lady’s Revenge, I’ll start on the third book. Really excited about diving into a new story!

MBA&M: What is some comfort foods for you?

Tracey: My comfort foods tend to vary. I’ll find something I like and eat it until I’m sick of it. I do have a few items that I keep going back to, though. I love my husband’s spaghetti (or pasta, if you prefer). Slim Jim’s at snack time, strawberry Twizzlers while watching movies, Twix candy bars for my at-work sweet tooth, four-pump vanilla lattes to get my through the morning, and soda pop. Oh, and sometimes I get a hankering for a lemon.

MBA&M: What is in your “To Read” pile?

Tracey: Honestly, too many to list. Although I don’t read as much as I used to, I still buy books like I haven’t slowed down. Recent books I’ve purchased and haven’t read—How to Ravish a Rake by Vicky Dreiling, Miss Hilary Schools a Scoundrel by Samantha Grace, A Week to be Wicked by Tessa Dare, and The Rogue Pirate’s Bride by Shana Galen.

MBA&M: Which character in “A LADY’S REVENGE” do you think most identifies with you and your character? Why?

Tracey: I would like to think there’s a little of me in my heroine, Cora, and her lady’s maid, Dinks. But only a smidge. Both ladies are far more courageous and intelligent than I’ll ever be. I do wish I could bundle them up and carry them with me wherever I go.

MBA&M: Who is your hero/heroine be it person, animal, or character? Why?

Tracey: My husband is my hero, hands down. He loves and supports me despite my many flaws. He’s my biggest fan and my voice of reason. Quite simply, he’s my rock. Without his love, I would never have become the woman I am today. I always want to be a better person when I’m around him. And I adore his mother, too.
