**Release Me is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.**

JULIE: I’m so excited to be here today for another stop on my Release Me blog tour!  Be sure to leave a comment so you’re in the running to win a copy of the book!

Today’s topic ties right in with the book.  Release Me is an erotic romance, and I’ve been asked so many times about how difficult it is (or isn’t!) to write the sensual scenes that I thought that would be a great topic to handle today.

Truly, though, the answer may surprise you.  Because the scenes aren’t hard to write at all … not so long as the sex flows from the characters’ honest interaction.

The fact is, sex is emotional, intimate, arousing, sometimes funny, sometimes awkward, hopefully mind-blowing. It can be slow or fast, rough or tender.  It can bring two people closer or build walls of embarrassment and unfamiliarity.  It can release a free spirit, or trap someone in low self-esteem and uncertainty.  There are as many possibilities with a sexual scene as there are people, and all those possibilities flow from the way the characters are relating to each other before they actually—how shall we say?—get down to it.

My favorite part of writing sex is the part that comes before.  The intimate dance when the characters lead up to consummation.  My least favorite part is choreography, because while writing a sex scene is absolutely 100% not about inserting part A into slot B, you still have to get all the body part placement right, otherwise your reader will be left scowling at the page, turning the book this way and that as they wonder how in the world the characters got into that position.

Copyeditors are a real blessing in that regard.  But before the copyeditor it helps to have a movie running in your head.  I know I do. R or NC-17.  Not X, no matter how hot the actual scene might be.  Because to my way of thinking, X means it’s about the sex.  R and NC-17 means it’s about the characters who, at that moment, are connecting both emotionally and sexually.  And that, after all, is what the story should be about.

I hope you check out Release Me!  Hard to believe it’s going to be hitting shelves tomorrow!

And be sure to have a safe New Year’s Eve—and I wish you all a wonderful 2013.

The Prince's Gamble

Now without  further ado,sit back and enjoy our visit with Caridad…..

MBA&M: Caridad, please tell those readers who may not know you a little about yourself?
First of all, thanks for having me here at your wonderful blog!  As for me, I love to write and have been published for about a decade.  I write paranormals and romantic suspense, but started out writing contemporary romances. I’m also a mom and wife!

The Prince's GambleMBA&M: What was your inspiration behind writing “The Prince’s Gamble”?
THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE was inspired by a dare from some writing friends during a visit to Las Vegas.  We were there to get some intensive writing time, but also took time to relax and check out the sights and activities in Las Vegas.  As we did that, I started getting ideas for how to include some of those things, like a visit to a spa and a pole dancing class, in a story. My friends didn’t think I could do it and dared me and the result was THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE.  Unfortunately, I didn’t meet anyone as sexy as Prince Alexander in Las Vegas!

MBA&M: What made you write about white slavery, the Russian mafia and where did you find research for these topics? What a difficult topic white slavery must have been.
After the dare, I started researching the kinds of crimes that go on in and around casinos. Money laundering was a recurring activity.  Did you know that the 9-11 terrorists spend time in Las Vegas, probably to get the money for their activities?  Additional research revealed that in addition to prostitution, young women are sometimes taken and sold into slavery.  Because I wanted to get the message across about women being empowered to help themselves and others, I decided to include white slavery in the story line.
MBA&M: What was the hardest part about writing this title?
The hardest part was portraying Prince Alexander as something besides an entitled and perfect royal.  I wanted him to have depth and be three-dimensional.  I wanted him to have a complex personality beneath that perfect face and body and I hope that I accomplished that.  I know that I fell in love with him as I discovered more about him, his caring and the weaknesses that only made him that much stronger by the end of the story.
MBA&M: Who was your favorite character and your hardest character to write about?
LOL!  I guess I answered this one already!  But since I love the prince so much, let me tell you a little more about him and what we have in common.  The prince is very concerned with having freedom and in large part that comes from having survived part of his  life in a Communist regime.  My family escaped Castro and his dictatorship, so I could understand the prince’s desire to be free to control his own life.
MBA&M: Tell us a little about the secondary characters, who was the most difficult to write about, and who will have a possible story of their own one day?
I loved including sexy Detective Peter Roman, who is a local police officer who helps out the heroine, FBI Agent Kathleen Martinez with information about the local Russian gangsters.  It was lots of fun to have him in the story, but not let you know too much about him.  I wanted to give you just enough to whet your appetite about Peter and his friendship with Prince Alexander and his “relationship” of sorts with the prince’s younger sister, Tatiana.  What’s next for Peter and Tatiana?  Their story will be out in summer 2013 and it’ll be a story about an arranged marriage, a deception and a cat burglar who has targeted customers at one of the Ivanov casinos.

MBA&M: What’s next?
Besides Peter and Tatiana’s story, THE CALLING vampire series will be back in 2013 and retitled as THE REBORN vampire series.  The first book, BORN TO SERVE, brings fans more in the love story between Diana Reyes and Southern vampire Ryder Latimer.  Also look for THE SHATTERED, the next book in the SIN HUNTER series, in the summer of 2013.  You’ve asked for Ryan and Sammie’s story and I’m very excited to bring it to you!
MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where to purchase their copy of “The Prince’s  Gamble”?
THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE is available at all the various online retailers and at 2.99, it’s an affordable addition to your library, plus you’ll be helping out a worthy cause as I’ll be donating my share of proceeds from the sales to the Hurricane Sandy NJ Relief Fund so that my home state can help rebuild and repair the damage done by Hurricane Sandy.

We understand you are giving your proceeds from this title to the victims of Hurricane Sandy,New Jersey Relief Fund, we would like to say a big THANK YOU!
Thank you for letting me visit and help spread the word about my campaign to try and help others!

No Crib for a Bed

by Deborah Heal

Christian fiction writers sometimes think their stories are less important than the sermons, essays, and treatises of the “serious” non-fiction writer. But imaginative writing has tremendous power to teach deep truths. For example, many, many people have come to know God through C. S. Lewis’ Narnia stories.

Storytelling is even an effective tool for fund raising. One Christmas, when it was time to send out the monthly newsletter for our crisis pregnancy center, I decided to use a story to help readers understand the problems families faced. Here is the letter I sent out:

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger.” Luke 2:7

Now that was a crisis pregnancy! There is something so heart wrenching about the newborn King lying in a stable when he should have had every luxury in the universe.

Every parent wants the best for their precious little ones. But for some couples like, Carl and Brenda…

June, 1955. Carl was just out of the service and couldn’t find a job. And he had a wife and two kids—Brenda, three-year-old Stevie, and two-month-old Patty. So Carl packed up the family and moved, but with the recession there were no jobs. For a while Brenda worked at the dime store, and Carl stayed home to watch the kids. With no gas for the car, he walked across town when he heard the Shell station was hiring. Sure enough, the sign in the window said, HELP WANTED, but the man inside told him the job had just been filled. It was a long walk back home. “The air Force will take me back,” he told Brenda. But the Air Force was not taking men with two children.

The approaching Christmas season just highlighted their misery. “Well,” Brenda said, “at least Patty is too little to know about Christmas presents.” Or maybe she did and that’s why she cried so much. She seemed hungry all the time, no matter how often she nursed, and Brenda began to wonder if she had enough milk.

Brenda cried in the doctor’s office when he explained that, “yes, you can get pregnant even while you’re nursing.” And when baby Mikey came, he slept in a dresser drawer because Patty still needed the crib.

This Christmas season I am asking you to consider a very special gift so that we can continue to help families like Carl and Brenda’s resist the pressure to abort their baby “Mikey’s.” Your gift will allow us to help with baby supplies—like a crib for the baby to sleep in.

Apparently, my little story helped to put a face on the problems associated with unplanned pregnancies, because donations poured into the center.

Does the story seem to overly sentimental? The “Patty” in the story is me. I’m grateful to be able to use my family’s ordeal to write real good.

Now, within further ado presenting Victoria James….

MBA&M: Good morning, Victoria! Welcome to My Book Addiction and More.

[VJ] Hi, thanks so much for having me here today!

Please give our readers some insight into Victoria James?

[VJ] I met my husband thirteen years ago in University-in an English Lit class.  Two years later we got married, and now we have two children-a two year old and a six year old.  My days are busy juggling the responsibilities of our small business, my writing, kids, and household chores. But when I have a free moment, I’m putting my interior design background to use-I’m always rearranging furniture and pictures in our house.  I still do freelance work as well. I love seasonal decorating.  Basically, I drive my husband nuts, because he hates change…and thing are always changing!

MBA&M: Where did your inspiration for “The Billionaire’s Christmas Baby” come from?

[VJ] I live in Canada, and growing up I adored our snowy winters and white Christmases.  I knew I always wanted to be a writer, so writing a book that was set in a remote, snow-filled area during the holidays was too hard to resist…

A few years ago, surrounded by my extended family, I started wondering about how much of whom I was today, was shaped by the people around me.  I had always known the love of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins.  But what if I hadn’t?  How would that have changed me?  And that thought triggered the characters in THE BILLIONAIRE’S CHRISTMAS BABY.  How would different people react to the holidays if they didn’t have a family?  If they had no one?  Would they build walls around themselves?  Or would they be in a perpetual search for a soul-mate, for love?  The hero and heroine that took shape in my mind became larger than life.  Their pain, their need for acceptance and unconditional love tugged at my heartstrings until I was forced to find a way to create a happily-ever-after for the three of them!  And of course, it would have to take place during the holidays!

MBA&M: What do you feel the allure of contemporary romance is to readers?

[VJ]I think it’s that we can relate to them easily.  Contemporary romance deals with characters that we can identify with, that are similar to our everyday friends and family members.  The issues in contemporary romance are also identifiable.  I think we can derive comfort from knowing that there are others who are going through the same things, people who’ve loved and lost and have come out on the other side.

MBA&M: Who was your favorite character in “The Billionaire’s Christmas Baby”?

[VJ]Well, as much as I loved writing Hannah, I think Jackson is my favorite J  His journey and the evolution of his character from beginning to end tugged at my heartstrings.  Hmm…Maybe this means I have a crush on Jackson Pierce!

MBA&M What scene stands out the most to you?

[VJ]When Hannah thanks Jackson, after their wedding.  I loved writing this scene because it evolved so naturally-she’s about to make a sarcastic comment in order to keep her distance from Jackson, but instead she is overcome by everything he has done for her.  She thanks him and I think it’s a turning point for Hannah-she’s finally letting him in.  And of course Jackson is surprised by her candor…and well, one thing leads to another…;-)

Victoria, since the Christmas holiday is upon us, let’s talk Christmas…..

MBA&M: What are some of your favorite Christmas things?

[VJ]“Raindrops on roses and…” Sorry, I couldn’t help it!  Some of my favorites are spending extra time with family and friends.  The decorating, the hustle and bustle at the mall, the pure, uninhibited excitement children have over Christmas.  The giving, the extra effort we put into helping those less fortunate.  The time we make to remember all our blessings.

MBA&M: What are your favorite Christmas songs?

[VJ]I love the classics-The Christmas Song, I’ll be home for Christmas, I’m dreaming of a White Christmas…

But I do have some contemporary favorites…I love everything from Sarah Mclachlan-especially Wintersong.  I love The Pretenders’ Two thousand Miles, Tom Cochrane’s Christmas all the Time.

MBA&M: What are a few of your family’s traditions?

[VJ]Growing up in a North-American-Italian family, the holidays were always filled with an abundance of family, food, and drama.  Cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents, would gather.  The crowd was loud and the toasts with homemade wine were plenty.

This year, I’m hosting Christmas Eve dinner for approximately fifteen of our nearest and dearest.  I have hosted Christmas Eve before, but I haven’t done the full-blown deal.  This year, I’m going to cook up a big old, traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner.  All seven fish dishes.  I can do it…I hope!  The day after I told my husband my plan?  He bought a fire extinguisher.

MBA&M: If you could be anywhere this holiday season where would it be and why?

[VJ]Anywhere with snow and my family!!  I’m not one of those people who want to escape the cold for the hot, sunny beach.  It’s not Christmas without subzero temps, and a blanket of the white stuff.  I’m a true Canadian girl, I guess!

Thank you for visiting with us and our readers, with Christmas just around the corner we wish you and your family a very MERRY CHRISTMAS…..

Thank you so much for having me, this has been fun!!  Merry Christmas to all of you as well!

The Billionaire’s Christmas Baby:
Jackson Pierce didn’t make his fortune entertaining every half-cocked idea, especially one involving diaper changes. Not even the cute brunette who links him to the baby in her arms can crack his icy heart.
A baby on the doorsteps is the least of Hannah Woods problems–she has to find the baby’s uncle, or the child will end up in foster care. She sleuths her way to the reclusive CEO’s doorstep only to find six feet of holiday sexy–and a door slammed in her face. But when Jackson comes around, and urges they marry for little Emily’s sake, Hannah finds herself falling for the jaded billionaire and wishing for a holiday miracle of their own…

 baby its cold outside

kate hardy My favourite holiday memories, traditions and food :o)

Because my closest family and best friends from university live quite a way from us, we don’t get to see them around Christmas itself – so we have a tradition of ‘early Christmas’, which means I get to have Christmas every weekend in December, complete with traditional Christmas dinner, crackers and party hats, and a little pressie from ‘Santa’ to unwrap. (These vary from sensible chocolate reindeer to the year I was a bit inspired, and my daughter gleefully told her classmates: ‘Santa gave me a box of poo!’ It also contained a sunflower seed and was a fundraiser for London Zoo!)

I normally do a very traditional English Christmas dinner – roast turkey with roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower (the latter two are in place of Brussels sprouts, which are more traditional but everyone in my house hates them), plus cocktail sausages wrapped in bacon.

For pudding, we’re a bit less traditional – nobody in our house really likes Christmas pudding (it’s just too stodgy, and my husband loathes dried fruit), so we tend to have a fresh fruit salad with fresh pineapple, kiwi fruit, pomegranates and strawberries or raspberries. (I have one of those gadgets that lets you core the pineapple and take the fruit out while leaving the outside intact, which looks quite cool when you use it as a serving dish.)

I think my favourite memories are from when the children were very small and the absolute look of wonder on their faces when they came downstairs to discover that Rudolph had eaten his carrot and Santa had eaten his choc-chip cookie and left a huge pile of presents. And the year one of their godmothers gave them some special food for Rudolph that sparkled at night so Santa could find our house :o) And definitely the year it snowed so we made snow angels. (Um, you might notice that particular bit in my novella…)

I always love finding something they’ll NEVER guess for their Christmas stockings. I have a great one this year for my teenage son, who insists on growing a moustache – I’ve found a sandwich-cutter in the shape of a moustache!

Thank you Kate, for sharing your favorite holiday memory! What lovely memories.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very MERRY CHRISTMAS from the team at My Book Addiction and More!

Ready for a little Texas Heat!

Join Bestselling author

Katie Lane’s TROUBLE IN TEXAS blog tour!

What do you feel makes cowboys and Texas so enduring to readers?

KATIE: Cowboys are alpha men who are honest and hard working.  Texas is filled with small towns that take us back to a simpler life that’s far removed from the hustle and bustle of big cities.

How hard is it to write a series? and how many will be in this series?

KATIE: The easy part is that you have most of the characters already.  The hard part is keeping the characters fresh and interesting.  Bringing in Miss Hattie’s Henhouse was my way of keeping things fresh in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series.  I didn’t really set out to write a series.  I just had this idea about a woman searching for her long-lost twin sister.  But once I finished Going Cowboy Crazy, I realized that I had a lot of ideas that might work for other books.  Fortunately, people fell in love with Bramble and I’m getting my opportunity to write those stories.  As of now, there will be seven books in the series.  Beau’s story, Flirting with Texas, will be out in July 2013.  Brianne’s story will be next.  And finally, Beckett’s.  After that, who knows :o)

List five words to describe your writing style?

KATIE: Fun.  Sexy.  Zany.  Character-driven.  (Does a hyphenated word count as two?)

Thank you, Katie, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit with us and our readers today! What a pleasure to have you with us again.

Inheriting the most notorious house of ill repute in Texas can spell trouble for a girl’s reputation . . . especially when she’s Elizabeth Murphy, Bramble’s prim and proper librarian. Yet when she discovers a buck-naked cowboy handcuffed to a four-poster bed, she forgets all about the town gossips. Elizabeth has sworn off men, but the stranger’s kisses melt her resolve faster than ice cream on a hot summer day.
Waking up in Miss Hattie’s Henhouse isn’t how Brant Cates reckoned on getting to the bottom of his great-granddaddy’s murder. The plan was to solve the centuries-old crime, then get the heck out of Dodge. But after meeting Elizabeth and discovering that the buttoned-up beauty is a sexy siren in disguise, he just can’t pull himself away.
Now Brant needs Elizabeth to finally put his past to rest, but is she willing to risk her future on Bramble’s newest bad boy?

About Katie Lane:

Katie Lane’s interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a ’65 Mustang-okay, so maybe it wasn’t romance as much as raging teenage hormones. Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail. Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the owner of that Mustang and would love to hear from her readers.

A Holiday Greeting and Momentous Announcement from Victoria Vane:

When I first conceived A Wild Night’s Bride, a Georgian set, Hangover-inspired romantic comedy, I had no idea that one devilish secondary character would spawn an entire series, but Ludovic, Viscount DeVere, proved to be a dream come true. This larger than life character has captured the hearts of so many fans who have begged for more DeVere. In response to these requests, I have not only decided to continue the series, but have recently commissioned an amazing artist to render gorgeously detailed full color illustrations for my DeVere stories! My goal is to offer a wonderfully enhanced reading experience to fans of my series.

The first book to be illustrated (and just in time for all those glorious full color and graphics capable Christmas e-readers), is Devil in the Making, a riotous Georgian romp in the tradition of Fielding’s Tom Jones and a prequel to the Devil DeVere series.

The Illustrated Edition will feature a gorgeous depiction of the key scene in every chapter. If this experiment is successful, I will be illustrating the entire DeVere series (old and new) over the next 12-18 months. As a holiday greeting, I am attaching a sample of the absolutely stunning photorealistic artwork that will grace the new book cover as well as the inside pages! Devil in the Making: The Illustrated Edition will be available in e-book early December 2012. A print anthology will follow later in 2013. Now, without further ado…. Here is how it all began….

Devil in the Making: A Devilish Vignette by Victoria Vane

Every devil has a beginning… A rebellious young nobleman’s prank with the king’s lion goes comically awry, leading to a startling chain of events.

“But I know that look, DeVere, and it always bodes ill.”
“Come now, Ned,” DeVere cajoled. “With only weeks until matriculation, we may never get another chance to serve up some revenge on ole’ Trasker.”
“What have you in mind?” Simon asked.
“Since our dear pedagogue is so fond of bear-leading, why not procure one for him?”
Ned looked stunned. “You wish to buy a bear?”
“Of course not,” DeVere answered.
“Thank God,” Ned replied with a sigh of relief.
“I only wish to borrow one.”
“A bear?” Simon repeated.
“Yes. It can be a small one. As to age, size, or gender. I am not particular.”
“And how do you propose to find one?” Ned asked warily.
DeVere replied with a look of pure devilment. “I propose a midnight foray to the Royal Menagerie.” (end excerpt)

Warmest holiday greetings,

Victoria Vane

And now a quick interview with Victoria Vane….

Victoria, where did the idea for illustrations come from?

Illustrations within e-books,what a novel idea…

Victoria: Thank so much for asking, April. The idea occurred to me after reading so many reviews of my books that remarked upon how “vivid” my stories are. As a person who believes in playing to my strengths, I began to wonder how I might take this a step further. After reading so much about the new generation of full color and graphics capable e-readers, it seemed a no-brainer to take my stories into the “visual realm. Thus, the illustration idea was born.
MBA&M: How hard is it to find an illustrator? Where did you find your resources for the illustrations?
Victoria: At first, I really didn’t know where or how to begin. My immediate thought was to hire a cover artist and use illustrations with photo manipulation, but that concept proved far too limiting given that my work to date has been set exclusively in the Georgian era. It’s very difficult to find appropriate stock photos even for my book covers, so then I wondered about hiring a digital artist who could draw/paint whatever I needed with the kind of look I desired. While this is not an inexpensive endeavor, I felt very strongly about offering my fans this visually enhanced reading experience, so I bit the bullet and began advertising for an artist. After looking at dozens of portfolios I found someone with both the intuition and the talent to create EXACTLY what I wanted.  It has been a match made in heaven!
MBA&M: What do you hope your readers will come away with by buying your books with illustrations within?

Victoria: I want them to be mesmerized and stunned by the realism and to come begging for more! LOL!

MBA&M: Thank you so much for allowing MBA&M and our readers along on your grand adventure!

Is Patagonia on your bookshelf?

Mention outdoor clothing company Patagonia and what comes to mind? Jackets! Puffy ones, fleece ones, waterproof ones — beloved, long-lasting, favorite ones.

How about books? That’s right. Patagonia has been publishing since 2007. But their little-known secret is out, as Patagonia Books are now available in digital form. Readers can now find all 12 titles in digital form at Patagonia.com, Amazon, BN.com, and iTunes.

eBooks do right by the environment: same great stories, less environmental harm. That’s why Patagonia has joined the mobile movement.

Great news for Patagonia-clad readers, since print books don’t really travel well. (Remember Cheryl Strayed in Wild, torching chapters on the trail?)

“Not only do eBooks have less environmental impact, they are also more portable,” says Patagonia Books Director Karla Olson. “We know that our audience is often on the move, and the convenience of having these titles available as eBooks will enhance their reading experience.”

Enjoy the thrill of the outdoors with eBooks from Patagonia – and this special giveaway!
