We are honored to have you with us today, Maggie….
Maggie robinson**Author photos have been taken by Megan Jones**
MBA&M: Maggie, please give our readers, those who may not know you, a little insight into the mind and life of Maggie Robinson?
MAGGIE: My mind is a frightening place, LOL. I’ve been published for three years, and get up every morning and write until noon in my nightgown. My husband and I live on a lake in the woods in Maine, so no one sees me in my dishabille. We have four grown kids and four grandchildren.
MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind writing a series for  ” The London List”?
MAGGIE: I found some fabulous old matrimonial ads, and started thinking about a Regency newspaper that might publish something similar. So whatever you want–a job, a wife, a tea set–all can be found within the pages of the London List. Kind of like Craigslist without the naughty stuff.
MBA&M: What made you decide to write historical romance?
MAGGIE: It’s what I like to read. 🙂
MBA&M: Lady Imaculata Anne Egremont and Major Gareth Ripton-Jones are both reeked in scandal, fear, and misery, what was your inspiration behind these two possible lovers?
MAGGIE: Lady Imaculata turned up as a minor character in the first book of the series,Lord Gray’s List. I’d given her a happy ending in the last chapter, but then I got to wondering how she’d managed it. A wild child and a tortured hero? Yes, please.
MBA&M: What was your favorite scene to write in “Lady Anne’s Lover”?
MAGGIE: I really love the opening scene when she sees the disgusting mess that is Gareth’s home and doesn’t let it discourage her.

MBA&M: Which was your hardest character to write, Lady Anne or Major Gareth? Why?

MAGGIE:  I think Gareth, because for all his rakish past, he’s pretty clueless when it comes to women. Even though Anne is much younger, she teaches him the error of his ways.

MR_LadyAnnesLover_webMBA&M: Which character in “Lady Anne’s Lover” (main or secondary) would you chose to dine with, where would you go and why this character?
MAGGIE: I think Evangeline Ramsey, who makes a cameo. She was the heroine of Lord Gray’s List. She’s strong, opinionated and compassionate.
MBA&M: Now, let’s talk about secondary characters, which was your favorite character, and who may have a story of their own come to light?
MAGGIE: The story really focuses on the h/h, and the secondary characters fall short of sequel material. A murderer and a zealot? Um, I don’t think so, LOL.
MBA&M: How many books will be in “The London List”?
MAGGIE: 3 at this point. Lady Anne’s Lover is the last.
MBA&M: If you could pick one character from any book, including your own,by the way, you can, which character and why?
MAGGIE: I identify with Caroline Christie, the heroine of Mistress by Marriage, although I don’t throw things. 🙂 She makes the best of her circumstances and is full of passion.
MBA&M: A fun thingy: When you hear these words, say the first thing that comes to mind,no cheating?
MAGGIE: Regency England or American Frontier? Regency England
Southern or Northern States? Northern–I was born in NY and live in Maine!
Romance,Mystery,or Paranormal? Romance. Mystery’s a close second.
Fiction or realistic? Fiction
Blue, purple or pink? Pink…even my laptop is pink.
Coffee,Chocolate,or Tea? Tea. Lots of it.
MBA&M: To you what is the most exciting part of writing?
MAGGIE: You remember the nightgown part? I love that I can work and be creative and can be undressed at the same time.
MR_LadyAnnesLover_webMBA&M: Now, Maggie, last but not least…Please tell our readers where they may connect with you and where they may purchase “Lady Anne’s Lover”?
MAGGIE: There are excerpts and purchase links on my website http://www.maggierobinson.net
I’m on Twitter @MaggieLRobinson and Facebook and just formed a group on Goodreads, “Ladies Unlaced with Maggie Robinson.” Come hang out with me!
Maggie, would you like to add anything else today?
Answer this question for a chance to win a copy of LADY ANNE’S LOVER:
**What was the worst thing you’ve ever had to clean?**
Thank you so much for your wonderful interview and your delightful stories! I am so sad to hear this will be the ending of THE LONDON LIST, I have enjoyed these delightful, albeit, scarred characters!
Now,for just a little fun, I would like to answer,Maggie’s question: What was the worst thing you’ve ever had to clean? While,I hate cleaning bathrooms,as a retired nurse, the worst thing to clean to me was tracheotomy’s,I always, always, gagged to no end, while trying not to let the patience know….hated suctioning nasally as well. So enough of me dear readers, what about you?

Lady Anne’s Lover

Lady Anne's Lover
The London List, Book 3

Kensington Brava ♦ July 30, 2013
ISBN-13: 9780758269102 ♦ ISBN-10: 0758269102

Lady Imaculata Anne Egremont has appeared in the scandalous pages of the London List often enough. The reading public is so bored with her nonsense, she couldn’t make news now unless she took a vow of chastity. But behind her naughty hijinks is a terrible fear. It’s time the List helped her. With a quick scan through its job postings and a few whacks at her ridiculous name, she’s off to keep house for a bachelor veteran as plain Anne Mont.

Major Gareth Ripton-Jones is dangerously young and handsome on the face of it, but after losing his love and his arm in short order, he is also too deep in his cups to notice that his suspiciously young housekeeper is suspiciously terrible at keeping house. Until, that is, her sharp tongue and her burnt coffee penetrate even his misery—and the charm underneath surprises them both. Trust the worst cook in Wales to propose a most unexpected solution to his troubles…

susan Mallery picEmbarrassing Crushes
By Susan Mallery
With more than 25 million books sold worldwide, New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery is known for creating characters who feel as real as the folks next door, and for putting them into emotional, often funny situations readers recognize from their own lives. Susan’s books have made Booklist’s Top 10 Romances list in four out of five consecutive years. RT Book Reviews says, “When it comes to heartfelt contemporary romance, Mallery is in a class by herself.” With her popular, ongoing Fool’s Gold series, Susan has reached new heights on the bestsellers lists and has won the hearts of countless new fans.
Susan grew up in southern California, moved so many times that her friends stopped writing her address in pen, and now has settled in Seattle with her husband and the most delightfully spoiled little dog who ever lived. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

Here’s the link to a video in which Susan chats about Ford Hendrix of THREE LITTLE WORDS

When I was younger, I had a deep and abiding love for a celebrity who shall remain nameless. I wasn’t the kind of girl to hang his picture in my locker or cover my room with his posters – ours was a private love. I grew up in LA, and my dad worked in TV, so I was convinced that my one true love and I would one day meet. And when we did, I didn’t want him to think that I was like the millions of silly girls who had a crush on him. They didn’t know him. I did. My love was real, and as soon as we met, he would recognize me as his soulmate.

Back then, I didn’t tell anyone how I felt because our love was sacred. Today, I still won’t confess his name because, frankly, I’m embarrassed. What was I thinking?! He wasn’t very smart, only marginally cute, and he ran like a girl. (There’s your one hint – he was on a TV show that required running. And he had dark hair. Two hints, but that’s it.)

In THREE LITTLE WORDS, my latest Fool’s Gold romance, Isabel Beebe knows all about embarrassing crushes, though hers wasn’t on a celebrity. When Isabel was 14, she had a crush on Ford Hendrix, her sister’s then-fiancé. Worse, Ford knew how she felt because when her sister broke up with him, Isabel chased after him, sobbing, begging him not to leave. And when he joined the Navy, she wrote him dozens of long, impassioned letters.

Over the years, her letters became less like teenage love letters and more like a “Dear Diary” kind of thing, but that brings its own special twist of humiliation. Because now Ford is back in Fool’s Gold to open a bodyguard-training facility, and this dangerously sexy ex-Navy SEAL knows all her most embarrassing secrets. He knows about her first kiss. He knows when she lost her virginity and where (*cough* inthebackofatruck *cough*).

All summer, Isabel has been ducking around corners to hide from Ford, but as THREE LITTLE WORDS begins, she’s decided that enough is enough. Fool’s Gold is too small for her to avoid him forever, especially since he just rented the place next door.

Enter the THREE LITTLE WORDS blog tour contest once a day every day from July 30 through August 11 for a chance to win a $25 Amazon or BN.com gift card! And because this blog was set up by Fool’s Gold Cheerleader Wilma(WendyK), if you win, she’ll win a gift card, too!

**Release day**

We are MBA&M would like to wish you congratulations on your latest release!

MBA&M: Karen, for those readers who may not know Karen Ranney, please give them a glimpse into your writing, and life?

KAREN:That question always silences me. It’s like when you’re at a job interview and they say, “Tell me a little about yourself.” You don’t know whether to say that you’ve recently tried to take up drawing but your portraits look one dimensional and you never get the noses right. Or do you say that you were awarded the “Cutest Cubby” prize at your last job?

So, what do I say about myself?

I’m a full time writer who has been in the publishing industry for twenty years this year – I’m counting from the time I was informed that Kensington Publishing purchased three of my books. Granted, the first book didn’t actually get published until 1995 – but that’s just another excuse for a celebration in two years.

I write historical romance – predominantly Scottish Victorian right now, although I’ve done some books set in England. Under my pseudonym of Katherine Storm, I write contemporary romance, mysteries, and romantic suspense.

I am the proud guardian (since the word “owner” doesn’t seem quite right) of a very opinionated Shetland Sheepdog. Flash, the co-author of his own book called Flash Fables, has taught me a great deal about life and humans since coming into my life in 2010.

MBA&M: What do you think the appeal of not only Historical Romance but those sexy, hard nosed, Scottish Highlanders, to today’s readers?

KAREN: I think it’s the same appeal that Texans have, or rugged individualists. We really want men to be men. We want men to be manly. There’s just something wondrously appealing about a man with a burr in his voice and a glint in his eye. I think it also has something to do with our wanting a hero. A man who refuses to back down, who fights for his freedom or his land is the epitome of a hero, don’t you think?

I think historical romance is a lot like fantasy in some ways. The world writers create is based on history (or should be) but our individual interpretation of it varies. We’re creating our own world. I like historical romance because there are more rules that dictate behavior. Scandal and shame were real concepts. Privacy was prevalent.

At times, I want to escape. I want to fall in love with a handsome Scot. I want the world I inhabit – for however long it takes me to read a book – to be one not of my making but a different, wondrous place. That’s what historical romance gives me.

MBA&M: Your latest release, THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR, has or will soon release, inquiring minds what to know, or me anyway, what are you doing to celebrate your newest release?

KAREN: I’m putting oodles and oodles of books on sale. Avon is putting six of my ebooks (five of them voted on by readers) on sale for $1.99. Is that great, or what? To match them, I’ve put all my backlist and my Katherine Storm ebooks on sale for $1.99.

I’m also doing a large drawing on my website, Facebook, and the Warm Fuzzies Newsletter. (Plus, I’d like to give away a copy of The Devil of Clan Sinclair to a commenter – of your choice – here.)

MBA&M: When you are creating your hero/heroine do you have a specific person/event in mind or do they appear of their own accord to your mind?

KAREN: I always start a book with characters. If I can’t know the characters, I don’t have a book to write. I never have anyone I’ve seen in mind – they just kind of pop into my consciousness and then they’re there. Not necessarily forever, because when a book is finished I get the strongest feeling that the characters turn to me and say, “Enough, already. You’ve pried enough, lass. Go away now.”

MBA&M: Who’s your favorite secondary character in THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR? And what role do they play in your story?

KAREN: The main secondary characters in The Devil of Clan Sinclair go on to get their own stories in the trilogy. Mairi? She’s one of those courageous woman we read about in history. I adore Ellice; she’s overlooked by everyone and is truly funny. Mairi’s story is The Witch of Clan Sinclair (the hero in the story is beginning to think Mairi is a witch – why else would he lose his mind around her?). Ellice’s story is The Virgin of Clan Sinclair – (she’s more than willing to divest herself of her virginity – to the shock of her family).

MBA&M: Now, let’s have some fun, let’s play: IN THE MOVIES: When you seen or hear of this movie what is the first thing that comes to mind?

1.  Titanic – Reincarnation. Ever since my son was a little boy, he’s been fixated on the Titanic. Collects everything he can find about the ship. (I never watched the movie, though. I am not a fan of DiCaprio.)
2.  Gone with the Wind – I wanted to slap Scarlett up the side of the head.
3.  Rob Roy – I would have liked the movie more if he didn’t look like he needed a bath. I know, it was realistic but still…
4.  Braveheart – great movie, lousy history.
and least but not least
5.  Highlander – loved that series

MBA&M: *Great answers by the way*

MBA&M: Now, if you do not mind, please tell our readers where they may connect with you and where they may purchase THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR?

Karen, do you have anything you would wish to add today?

Thank you for inviting me – and as far as the Cutest Cubby award, I actually won that. I always bought silly things for my workspace – like the welcome mat that quacked when people came into my cubby and the scream button that was mounted on the cubby wall.

Here’s the blurb:*From the author’s website*

To dance with the devil. . .

For Virginia Traylor, Countess of Barrett, marriage was merely the vehicle to buy her father a title. Widowhood, however, brings a host of problems. For her husband deliberately spent the money intended for Virginia and her in-laws, leaving them penniless—unless she produces an heir. Desperate and confused, Virginia embarks on a fateful journey that brings her to the doorstep of the only man she’s ever loved…

He’s known as The Devil, but Macrath Sinclair doesn’t care. He moved to a tiny Scottish village in hopes of continuing his work as an inventor and starting a family of his own. He bought the house; he chose the woman. Unfortunately, Virginia didn’t choose him. Macrath knows he should turn her away now, but she needs him, and he wants her more than ever. Whatever game Virginia’s playing, Macrath intends to win—one wickedly seductive deed at a time . .

A bit about the author:

Katie Lane’s interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a ‘65 mustang—okay, so maybe it wasn’t romance as much as raging teenage hormones.  Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail.  Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the owner of that mustang and is the bestselling author of the Deep in the Heart of Texas series.

MBA&M: Good morning, Glynnis, and welcome to My Book Addiction and More.
Please give our readers some insight into the mind and life of Glynnis Campbell?

GC: Thank you so much for having me.  I truly enjoy visiting—your readers are always so warm and welcoming!

MBA&M: I know you usually write Scottish Medieval Romance, what made you venture into the world of the “Old West”?

GC: I think of NATIVE GOLD as a love letter to my hometown of Paradise, California.  Paradise has a rich Gold Rush history, and the dramatic landscapes—from snow-fed creeks winding through lush pine forests to cascading waterfalls and “the little Grand Canyon”–are breathtaking.  Every year, the town celebrates its pioneer roots with Gold Nugget Days, and I once served as the Gold Nugget Queen!  So setting a story there was something I’d wanted to do for a long time.

MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind “Native Gold”?

GC: The rush of miners in the 1850s disrupted the Native American culture in California.  I’d seen some of the Konkow tribe’s artifacts—arrowheads, beads, baskets, grinding stones—and I was curious to learn what had happened to them.  As it turned out, some of the native women married miners, and their great-great-grandchildren still live there today!  So I decided it would be fun to drop Mathilda Hardwicke, a New York society heroine, into the primitive world of the Konkow, where she falls in love with the land, the culture, and the hero, Sakote.

MBA&M: Which character was the most difficult to write, be it the main character or a secondary character?

GC: During the Gold Rush, miners came from all over the world—Europe, South America, China—and one of my characters, the hero’s best friend, decided he was from Hawaii.  There was a contingent of Hawaiians near Paradise at that time, but I knew next to nothing about mid-19th century Hawaii.  So the character of Noa required some extra research on my part.

MBA&M: Why write about Gold Rush in California and mail-order brides?

GC: I’m a third-generation Californian, and I love it here!  I’m fascinated by the Gold Rush and the way that people from every corner of the world were thrown together in the space of a few years, forcing a melting-pot culture that was sometimes amusing and sometimes volatile, but always full of discovery.  I chose a mail-order bride scenario to explain why a woman of otherwise reasonable sensibilities would choose to go to the wild West!

MBA&M: Who would you say was your favorite character and why?

GC: There are a LOT of characters in my gold camp, and I had fun with all of them.  But I have a soft spot for Swede, the gentle giant who watches over Mattie.  I based the character on my cousin, a give-you-the-shirt-off-his-back kind of guy who comes on tough, but wouldn’t hurt a fly.  (It was also a kick to use my four rowdy nephews as the Campbell boys in the story.)

MBA&M: What three words would you use to describe “Native Gold” from an author’s viewpoint?

GC: Passionate, adventurous, breathtaking.

MBA&M: Which character from “Native Gold” will have their own story and when? Not giving anything away, of course?

GC: I guess it’s not too much of a spoiler to say that Sakote and Mattie get their happy ending in NATIVE GOLD!  The two sequels, NATIVE WOLF and NATIVE HAWK, are the stories of their half-breed sons.  One has embraced his native roots, while the other lives largely in the white man’s world, and by then a real-life tragedy has befallen the Konkow tribe that complicates the story and the two sons’ search for love and closure.

MBA&M: What will be the allure of  Sakote the Konkow warrior and the Indian world to readers, do you think? By the way I myself enjoy “Old West” and the Indian world, as I have Indian ancestry also…

GC: Who doesn’t love a man in a loincloth?  I think readers will enjoy experiencing the culture shock of the Gold Rush, where savage Sakote plays “Tarzan” to civilized Mattie’s “Jane.”  I’m getting great reviews from readers in the U.K., who are as enthralled by the Native Americans of the Old West as Americans are obsessed with knights in shining armor.  (By the way, as you may be able to tell by my straight, dark hair, I have Indian blood as well—my ancestors hail from Pawhuska, the seat of the Osage tribe!)

MBA&M:  I can see “Native Gold” as an epic movie, so inquiring minds, or me rather, would like to know…who do you see as the actors playing your characters?

GC: Ah, you know me well!  I always “cast” my books in my head.  So if you’d rather hold your own auditions, skip this next part—ha ha!  For Mattie, I imagined Evangeline Lilly, and young Nathaniel Arcand is Sakote.  You can find their inspiration photos here: http://www.glynnis.net/books/index.php?module=photoalbum&PHPWS_Album_op=view.  Go ahead, I’ll wait.  (You’ll see Willie Nelson has a bit part as Zeke.)

MBA&M: Now, getting away from “Native Gold” for a moment, when can we expect another Scottish Medieval Romance?

GC: I’m almost finished with the first sequel to NATIVE WOLF and will be tackling NATIVE HAWK next.  But I may sneak in a Scottish medieval novella this year, and I’m planning to write a trilogy sequel to my Warrior Maids of Rivenloch series, the Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch, very soon.

MBA&M: Last but not least, please tell our readers how to connect to you and where they may purchase “Native Gold”?

GC: You can find me at www.glynnis.net.  NATIVE GOLD is available in almost all formats, including a trade-size paperback!

Here are the links: http://bit.ly/NativeGoldKindle http://bit.ly/NativeGoldNook http://bit.ly/NativeGoldKobo http://bit.ly/NativeGoldPback http://bit.ly/NativeGoldSmashwords.

Thanks again for having me.  I hope you fall in love with my little town of Paradise and enjoy reading NATIVE GOLD as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Thank you,Glynnis, for stopping by today! I love your stories and have just finished NATIVE GOLD,and I can tell you it was a great read!

A mail-order bride finds savage passion in NATIVE GOLD

Mathilda Hardwicke, a rebellious artist rejected by her family and New York society, heads west to Gold Rush California to make a new life for herself as a mail-order bride.  When fate leaves her at the altar in Paradise Bar–a ramshackle gold camp full of ragtag miners–she’s sure she’s leaped out of the frying pan and into the fire.

But unbeknownst to Mattie, she has a protector.  Sakote, a fierce Konkow warrior, is bound by honor to watch over the white woman.  And though his tribe is threatened by the encroaching miners, he’s strangely drawn to Mattie, who delights in making pictures of him and whose destiny seems entwined with his.

When a tragedy at the camp forces Sakote to steal Mattie away, she finds herself in an unfamiliar Paradise of savage wonder, and she soon discovers a forbidden love more precious than gold.

undone-sara humphreys

So without further ado, welcome Sara!!!

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little bit about yourself? For those who may not know you yet.

SH: Sure thing! I’m a hopeless romantic and married to my college sweetheart. We have four boys, who are 18, 15 and our twins are 12. I love writing romance and still can’t quite believe that I get to do it for a living. We live just outside NYC and have two loud dogs.

MBA&M: What was or is your inspiration in writing Paranormal genre?

SH: I’ve always loved sci-fi and the paranormal. The first paranormal romances I read were by Christine Feehan and Lori Handeland. I love a happily ever after and exploring the journey to get there.

MBA&M: What made you decide to write The Amoveo Legend? And why the title UNDONE?undone-sara humphreys

SH: I’m not entirely sure. LOL. I always adored the idea of shapeshifting but I couldn’t choose only one animal, which is why they have ten different clans. I knew the heroine in the first book was a human/Amoveo hybrid and as I began to write their story, I wondered what the purebloods would think of this new breed. The Purist story arc developed as I was writing Malcolm and Samantha’s story in UNLEASHED and it carried through the series from there. UNDONE is a fitting title for Pete and Marianna’s story because their entire race is at a crossroads, so the Amoveo are undone. However, Marianna and Pete are undone by one another so it’s fitting for them as well.

MBA&M: Which of The Amoveo Legend characters so far was your favorite to write and why?

SH: I can’t pick a favorite because it always changes. It’s usually the characters I’m writing at the moment but if you force me to…I’ll pick Steven. He’s a secondary character but has become a fan favorite. He holds a special place in my heart as well. The poor man needs to get his HEA but it won’t happen for a while.

MBA&M: Who was or is your favorite hero/heroine to write and why?

SH: Again, it’s usually the pair that I’m writing at the time I’m asked this question but Kerry and Dante are probably the closest thing to my favorite couple. They must be because they turn in up in every Amoveo book.

MBA&M: How many books do you foresee being in THE AMOVEO LEGEND and which one is next?

SH: Well, I was contracted for five novels and two novellas. One more novel is coming out in Decemberunclaimed—UNCLAIMED. The novella, UNBOUND, will be out at some point next year but that’s the end of the series. I have at least two more books in mind, one of which is Steven’s but I have no idea when they’ll be out.

MBA&M: Who would you just die to have take you to dinner, either real or fictional? Why?

SH: Well, if it wasn’t my husband….then I’d pick Chris Pine. He’s handsome, has a wickedly devilish smile and seems to have a solid sense of humor.

MBA&M: What is one of your favorite things to do while writing a deliciously, sexy story?tall dark and vampire

SH: I love listening to sexy instrumental songs when I write love scenes. Sometimes it’s smooth jazz and other times it’s gritty rock n’ roll because it totally depends on the characters I’m writing. For example, when I was writing Tall, Dark, and Vampire the music was really dark and sexy—I listened to a lot of Guns n’ Roses and Slaughter because Doug and Olivia are that kind of couple.

MBA&M: For a fun thingy,I will name one word, you must answer with one word answers and the first thing that comes to mind? We will be watching you!

Scorching or Medium? Scorching

Wolf or Cat? Wofl

Vampires or Shapeshifters? Both

Meat or Vegetable? Meat

MBA&M: Now inquiring minds what to know, or me anyway: What is your favorite time of day?

SH: The unbroken silence of early morning before my boys wake up and the day is full of promise.

The Amoveo are shapeshifting animal clans who live secretly among humans and must find their pre-destined soul mates while avoiding the enemy that seeks to destroy them all.

Party girl Marianna Coltari is an unmated pureblood Amoveo who wants nothing to do with the ongoing war that took her father’s life and continues to consume her brother Dante’s. But when she is targeted by one of the clans, she has little choice but to run and hide in a cabin with Pete Castro, a retired cop from her brother’s security firm. There, Pete and Marianna explore an intensifying attraction between them until danger is at the door and there’s no escape.

So without further ado, welcome Jeffery….

The Kill Room

MBA&M: Welcome to MBA&M,Jeffery, please tell our readers a little about yourself and where we may connect with you?

JD: Thanks! I’m a former lawyer, journalist and folksinger who has been a full-time thriller writer for about 25 years. The best way to follow what’s happen is—naturally—through the web. At jefferydeaver.com and to follow me on Facebook and Twitter.

MBA&M: What draws you to write a suspense/thriller with government-sanctioned “hit men” included?

JD: I wanted to write a political novel for the first time and the Anwar al-Awlaki killing (a U.S. citizen killed by a drone strike in Yemen a few years ago) struck me as a good hook for a thriller featuring Lincoln Rhyme, the main character of nine other novels, beginning with The Bone Collector.

MBA&M: Living in North Carolina myself, do you draw much insight from your background? Or is it all in your mind, inquiring minds want to know?

JD: No, nearly all what I write is made up and researched, although in The Kill Room my killer is a gourmet cook and uses some of those techniques to dispatch people. I share that skill (the cooking, not the homicide).

MBA&M: What grabbed your intention with the title “The Kill Room”? Why that title and not another?

JD:The Kill Room title is itself a clue as to what happens in the story, and so I had to use that, or a variation. I can’t say more because it’s a surprise.

MBA&M: Which character was or is the hardest to write and why? Are villains harder to write or heroes?

JD: Bad guys are the best to write, because they’re the most fun (getting all those frustrations out, maybe). But neither heroes nor villains are harder or easier; all characters have to be drawn carefully.

MBA&M: What is your next project?

JD:The October List (Grand Central, October, 2013), a thriller written in reverse. A new Lincoln Rhyme in 2014 and a short story collection, Trouble in Mind, 2014.

Robert Moreno, an American citizen living in South America, is shot in the Bahamas by a sniper. The killing was commissioned by the U.S. government, who received a tip-off that Moreno was planning a terrorist attack on a U.S. oil company headquarters. But this intelligence was fatally incorrect: anti-American Moreno ordered a protest at the oil company, not an attack.

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are drafted in to investigate. While Sachs traces Moreno’s steps in New York, Rhyme travels to the scene of the crime in Nassau, where he finds himself on a dangerous path trailed by the sniper himself. As details of the case start to emerge, the pair discover that not all is what it seemed. Can they achieve justice and escape with their lives intact?

The Kill Room is available now in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
