Don’t Let Me GoBy Sarah Elizabeth

Additionally, meeting in a dangerous situation increases the chances of
falling in love.

Where meeting her eyes means seeing it through.
Following down from the start to don’t let me go.
From roll up to run.
Between old glory and new beginnings.

instead of a cowardly lion.

About the book:

On a hot summer night in a Midwestern town, a high school teenage prank goes horrifically awry. Alcohol, guns, and a dare. Within minutes, as events collide, innocents becomes victims—with tragic outcomes that alter lives forever, a grisly and unfortunate scenario that’s all too familiar. But victims can also become survivors, and as we come to know each character through his/her own distinctive voice and their interactions with one another, we see how, despite pain and guilt, they can reach out to one another, find a new equilibrium, and survive.

Told through multiple points of view in free verse and stream of consciousness, Ghosting is an unforgettable, haunting tale.
Praise for the book:

“Eight teens’ fates intertwine and recombine in the aftermath of a prank gone very wrong…[Ghosting is] a novel in verse…engaging.” —Kirkus Reviews

Sister Surrendered 2

About the Book:

When you’re a twin, loneliness is somewhat unfamiliar because you’ve always had each other. So when a twin passes, the other is left unprepared. Our loyalty was steadfast and our devotion to one another, solid. Our love was unconditional no matter what the circumstances. I’m so grateful every day for the memories of the joy and laughter that we shared together. I know the bond that Kelli and I shared is impossible for anyone to replace. This memoir has become something so much more than initially intended. It’s become a documented journey barely scratching the surface of the love between two sisters. And surprisingly, it’s also become an outlet for me to speak candidly and honestly about my struggles with the cause of Kelli’s death. This is a love story turned tragedy. An exposure of one of the greatest healthcare failures killing Veterans and civilians, and a cry for help to remedy the fiasco. I’ve stressed about who I would mention in this book, nervous that I would hurt someone’s feelings by not mentioning their names. But I’ve realized that it’s impossible to do. Kelli had so many great friends, some I’ve never even met. I need each person to know who has taken the time to reach out to me in whatever capacity that if it weren’t for your heartfelt show of support and love, I don’t know that I would be able to muster the energy to even get up each day.

Kelli, we did it.

Sister Surrendered 2EXERPT

Kelli again became depressed, withdrawn, aggressive, and sometimes paranoid. Living with her became nearly impossible. Thomas had to stop letting her work at his tackle shop which tore him up, too. Her skin became yellowish, the whites of her eyes almost golden. It was heartbreaking.

This time I drove to the VA with Maureen in tow and stormed into the Chief of Staff’s office. Maureen tried stopping me as I ambushed my way in but she couldn’t. The secretary informed me that I needed an appointment but I insisted otherwise. The Chief overheard our conversation and agreed to meet with me. I tossed a bag of empty pill bottles in front of him and educated him on what was happening. I made him aware that his doctors were, from my view, killing my sister. He assured me that he was going to call a meeting with Kelli’s team of doctors, which per her records I’ve reviewed, he did do. Our meeting however was not documented though, and the dispensing of pills continued. One hundred and twenty Valium and sixty Klonopin were dispensed in just one day!

I was forced to make one of the hardest decisions of my life. I sold our house, a house that we had loved. It was our home. I just couldn’t bear to watch her die in it. In front of me, us anymore. I felt helpless. I remember standing in the kitchen for the last time, alone. It was empty with only the memories I would carry for us. I couldn’t reach her. I didn’t want it this way. I wanted my Kel back. I stared into the space recollecting the good times; Kelli on top of the refrigerator patiently waiting for the first wayward passerby to cross in front of her. She would leap off and jokingly scare the daylights out of them. I could smell the eggs and bacon that we’d fry up on Sunday mornings before game time. I could taste the Navy black coffee that we’d sit around and drink as we plotted out our day. I missed her, I missed you. Do you know how much? Do you Kelli? Locking our home for the last time hurt. It was utter anguish.

I moved to an apartment in Virginia Beach while Kelli to Newport News. We were now living about thirty minutes away from each other. A distance that felt much further. Fortunately, Kelli had a roommate that would keep me updated daily. Unfortunately, Kelli was sliding. Even though she and I weren’t living under the same roof anymore, I was constantly plugged into what was going on. My mind constantly occupied with simultaneous worry and hope. It was pure torture.

I noticed over time that Kelli was going to the VA rather frequently. More and more as time passed. And shortly thereafter, white plastic bags full of pill bottles were being sent to the house in startling quantities. Kelli was also changing, becoming more withdrawn, reticent, and appearing extremely depressed. And as more pills arrived, the worst things became. Even getting the attention of her friend and supervisor Thomas who knew Kelli incredibly well. She was often calling in sick to work, sleeping excessively, becoming irritable, and spent little time grooming herself. She even started staying in rundown hotels. Sometimes for several nights in a row which was really distressing and scary. I tried to reach her but it would just turn into a rambling argument. Kelli even turned aggressive at times, going nose to nose with me screaming like we were two strangers. I felt like I was living in a nightmare. I had never experienced anything like this with Kelli. Even her daily functions crumbled. I remember vividly at one point during breakfast when her face just dropped directly into her cereal bowl. After this had gone on for several months, I deliberately approached Kelli with a more stern demeanor.

She was sitting in the kitchen. Her spirit gone and her eyes empty. We both cried as I begged her to get help. She admitted that she was addicted to the pills that the VA was dispensing, specifically Klonopin and Ativan. Thinking back to that morning nearly sixteen years later, it still drives a sharp pain deep into my chest. A stifling heartache. That was just the beginning of a nightmare that I would never wish on anyone. My twin sister, my pillar of strength, my idol of certainty, my other half, was changed forever. I know you were in there. Behind that curtain of intoxication. I know you Kelli.

I convinced Kelli to check into the hospital to detox from the pills. I even drove her to the VA where she was admitted to the inpatient psychiatric unit. Saying goodbye to her as two heavy doors slammed in between us is a memory that would forever haunt me. A wall that should have never been. I sat in the parking lot of the hospital and sobbed, not being able to convince myself to drive away. This wasn’t supposed to happen. It wasn’t in the cards. I was the one who was supposed to fold under pressure and collapse, not Kelli. I wasn’t strong enough for this, not this, not Kelli.

Once home, I immediately went into detective mode scouring through Kelli’s bedroom. I found bottles of pills from the VA hidden everywhere. There were bottles in socks, clothes, pockets, a Kleenex box, and stuffed under her mattress. Kelli hid them in places that most would never think to look. But I was her twin and knew her best. I left nothing unturned, no corner and/or crevice unexamined. My goal was to ensure that when Kelli returned home, the house would be poison free. By the time I finished tearing up her room, I accumulated a mountain of bottles. I was speechless. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was no wonder why Kelli couldn’t hold her head up. My friend Maureen, there with me, was dumbfounded. While we sat there in awe of what we were seeing, the phone rang. I shot up quickly because I knew that it was Kelli. And I was right, it was her, crying and hardly able to speak. I cried as well while attempting to comfort her. Making certain that she knew that everything would be okay. She begged me to come the following day for visiting hours and of course I said yes. The thought of her sitting in that locked unit made me cringe. I hated it. Every f-ing second of it. I hardly slept that night. Constantly thinking and wondering about Kelli and how she was doing. I counted down the minutes until I could go to her, just sit with her. My Kelli. I couldn’t help but think back to our childhood, boot camp, and every other aspect of our lives together, good, challenging, hard, rewarding, enduring. Enduring. Kelli, damn it, you had it, you had the secret, you loved life and it loved you back, ughhhh! I wondered how an individual like Kelli who was so strong, brave, determined, and solid could fall from grace so rapidly.

My Thoughts:

How Much Do You Love Me? by Paul Mark Tag is an interesting Historical set in the 1940′ s and 2000. A strong, tender tale which takes place during the World War II era. Two young lovers much deal with prejudice, romance, love and lost.

Do have tissues on the ready, you will need them. Dramatic, emotional and tender. WW II buffs are sure to enjoy, as well as romance readers. Well written with tender and strong feelings. The characters are enduring, and engaging. A very well written tale of romance and love. Received for an honest review from the publicist and/or publisher.

Welcome, Emily!!

We would like to know…

What is the allure of contemporary fiction for Middle Grade readers?

Liberty Belle cover (2)

I believe that the biggest draw for readers of contemporary MG fiction is relatability. Now, before the historical and fantasy writers throw their keyboard at me, let me preface that! Every novel has elements we can relate to, whether through characters or setting. That’s why we read these books. An MG novel that takes place in 16th century Scotland may have a main character who reminds us of our 21st-century best friend. Or a parent from a high fantasy trilogy might remind us of our own parent’s discipline strategy (even if that fictional parent happens to be a dragon robot with two heads)!

In contemporary middle grade, however, the books often read like they could have been written yesterday. There are often references to pop culture. certain clothing styles. and the language of today’s tweens. These stories feel like they could have been written about the same people in your school. I think there’s a fascination in feeling like these stories are about you or people you know. Its like looking inside the window of an exclusive party or overhearing a conversation in the bathroom. If the main character is relatable to you, then its almost like you’re on the adventure too. Bonus: you’re able to hear little nuggets of fun dialogue and experience the risks and rewards that go along with a great plot. You may not hang out with the middle school soccer team in real life, but it’s fun to imagine what their conversations might sound like in a book where the main character is the star of the soccer team. Books taking you to worlds you never imagined isn’t just for fantasy, and I think that young readers enjoy the everyday escapes to other parts of likfe just as much as they would traveling to worlds beyond Earth.

Just like a healthy meal should include a balance of vegetables, protein, and Brie cheese (kidding on that last one…sort of). I would suggest that the balanced bookshelf of a young reader should include the three whats: Even if an MG reader gravitates toward one category, I would definitely recommend trying these and many other styles even for those readers who prefer contemporary fiction.

● What happened? Remember that 16th century Scotland book I mentioned above? Our young readers don’t always relate to history through textbooks. It’s often beautifully written historical fiction that captures the spirit of history and packages it up beautifully to make it relevant to the modern day.
● What now? This is contemporary fiction, and it feels like it’s happening right this very minute!
● What if? It’s not always satisfying enough to think only about what’s happening in the past and what’s happening now. What is happening in the future? If the world was taken over by dragon robots, should dragons be ALLOWED to drive school buses? These are the kinds of thought-provoking questions that allow us to examine our world in a very different way.

I like to add elements of many types of fiction to my books. It’s fun, for example, to bring in bits of history. My book LIBERTY BELLE is set in Washington DC, a city rich in history. So it’s fun to pull in little tidbits here and there. And the elements that make a book great are often similar. That said, I love writing middle grade contemporary and I hope to write many more contemporary books (perhaps even a sequel to LIBERTY BELLE) in the years to come.

Oh my, what an interesting story! Thanks, Emily, for stopping by today and spending time with our readers!

Welcome, Kym!!

Now, set back and enjoy your time with our guest…

Hi April!
Thank you for having me on My Book Addiction and More to introduce my heroes to your readers. This is my last blog on the tour, and my giveaway will be ending soon, so enter on the rafflecopter for a chance to win one of many gifts! With two books released in July, and another one coming very soon, I decided to meet my heroes for dinner and introduce readers to these delectable men surrounding my table. Each one arrived alone, and thought the meeting was just the two of us. Walt was early, he’s a police academy instructor in Handled By Officer, so arriving early was in his blood—think drill instructor in the shape of Thor, and that’s Walt. Although my version comes with a mid-west accent and short hair. 😉
Makaio arrived next, he’s my playboy from Hawai’i in Dead On Arrival who’s never been serious about any relationship. He’s a cop in his early twenties so he’s right where he belongs in life. Except he’s not. He screwed up the most valuable relationship he’s ever had — his cousin was more like a twin brother to him, until I stepped into the picture and messed with their heads. I feel bad about it, considering these men have been tight since diapers, but it was a journey they had to take.
Alapai arrived third, he’s the biggest of them all. Well over six and a half feet, his size and brawn would be intimidating as hell if he didn’t always wear a smile. Also from Hawai’i, he’s Makaio’s cousin, and he’s got his hands full running a security company of his own and being a guardian to a magical race from Hawaiian folklore. He really didn’t have time for this trip to the mainland, but he aimed to please… until he saw Makaio. Now he’s not happy at all.
Stone just arrived. I’d tell you his first name, but he’d have to kill you. Not really but he’s my guy who never cracks a smile. Stone wasn’t always that way, he’s just back from the war in Afghanistan and still recovering from his injuries. He’s always been lean, and he might be the smallest guy in the room, but that doesn’t make him little, or easy prey. Even with his injury, he showed up as if he magically ‘poofed’ himself into the mix — his military training had made him deadly silent in everything he did. The strain of recovery showed on his face, he’d lost some weight and sweat beaded his forehead. I’d feel sorry for him for all the pain and extra exertion he’s had to go through for this journey, but then he’d have to kill me, so I’ll just admire his strength and endurance. He’s really going to need it in Dead Man’s Carve, which will be releasing very soon!
We hadn’t made it to the sitting position since Makaio arrived in a tank top, cargo shorts and flip-flops with his tattoo peeking out and looking ultra sexy. He and Walt went toe-to-toe, until Alapai arrived who thought the whole scene was humorous … then Makaio turned around. Pai’s happy-go-lucky personality turned very dark at that point and when he read my thoughts (I really should have cut the umbilical cord sooner) the glimmer in his eyes disappeared. He looked like a cold-blooded killer in a black suit and tie — his long, dark ponytail enhancing the image.
But as soon as he was done sizing Stone up, his body language relaxed. Walt and Makaio, however remained on high alert trying to push me to the rear. A job they weren’t going to get done without a fight.
I pushed forward and approached Stone to shake his hand then sighed in relief that he was there, and that our dinner would soon be underway. “Stone, your timing is impeccable as usual.”
He squeezed my hand affectionately. “Kym, you will die a quick death if you keep this up.”
I couldn’t help but smile. Pai’s eyebrow quirked with the corners of his mouth rising just a tad and I knew he understood Stone’s sense of humor. Makaio and Walt, however, were nearly growling behind me. I didn’t need their protection, especially from Stone, nor did the women in their future but that was something these two would have to learn on their own.
Makaio decided to take control. “Brah, you better watch who you’re threatening.”
“You should think before you talk. Your mouth has gotten you in enough trouble.” Stone’s face was just as you would expect — completely void of expression.
Makaio bristled and I stepped in to protect him. “Why don’t we sit down and order some drinks, then I’ll make introductions.”
The guys reluctantly took their seats with Walt and Makaio on each side of me and Pai and Stone sitting on the opposite side of the table, definitely a feast of eye candy for my meal. I quickly introduced everyone and tension eased a bit as we ordered drinks. Since I’d already downed two amaretto sours, I ordered a glass of tea, but the dinner menus laid un-opened on the table.
Stone took a drink of the tea he’d order, and I knew he was still using pain-killers. His brown hair had grown out since we’d last met and was currently curling around his ears and forehead. His chin was still covered in the beard he’d grown while overseas, but he looked rough and sexy as hell.
Stone dropped his third warning within a couple minutes, but I think the others were beginning to catch onto my military man’s skewed sense of humor. “You better tell us what’s going on before these two begin gnawing off each other’s limbs.” Of course, he was referring to Pai and Makaio.
I jumped in with two feet. “It’s time for you guys to settle down.” Three sets of eyebrows rose, Stone’s face remained expressionless. I pushed forward. “You’re about to meet the perfect women—”
Makaio got up first, Walt followed a close second and the two exchanged a look of total solidarity, “We love you, Kym but that’s not happening anytime soon.” Makaio kissed my cheek, “Aloha.”
“Wait—” I tried to stop them.
Walt followed his lead and kissed my other cheek. “I’ll see you next to you’re in KC, we’re going to hit the bar to find those beauties.”
Pai followed their lead, “I’ve got work I need to attend to. Call me when your back home.” He turned and shook Stone’s hand. “Thanks for your service.”
Stone nodded and looked like he wanted to leave as well.
“But, Pai—”
Pai winked and disappeared around the flower pots separating us from the rest of the restaurant patrons. I looked at Stone, expecting him to jump up and leave.
“I need to rest my leg, and I was really looking forward to a steak, so if you keep the topic of conversations away from a ball and chain, your safety won’t be in jeopardy.”
I laughed and gave in. All four of my guys had received my warning loud and clear, their lives as bachelors had an expiration date. I picked up my menu, handed one to Stone. “Let’s eat.”

Have you known a man who was afraid of meeting the woman of his dreams? Do you think its fear of a relationship, or fear of growing up?

Thank you for stopping by today,Kym!

I think we all fear, both the relationship and growing up. At times in our life. What about you?

kym robertsKym Roberts Bio: Three career paths resonated for Kym during her early childhood: a detective, an investigative reporter, and…a nun. Being a nun, however, dropped by the wayside when she became aware of boys—they were the spice of life she couldn’t deny. In high school her path was forged when she took her first job at a dry cleaners and met every cop in town, especially the lone female police officer in patrol. From that point on there was no stopping Kym’s pursuit of a career in law enforcement—even if she had to duct tape rolls of coins to her waist to meet the weight requirements to be hired. Kym followed her dream and became a detective that fulfilled her desire to be an investigative reporter, with one extra perk—a badge. Promoted to sergeant Kym spent the majority of her career in SVU. She retired from the job reluctantly when her husband drug her kicking and screaming to another state, but writing continued to call her name, at least in her head.

{Paranormal Mystery/Crime/Thriller/Romance}

3 Psychic Government Agents + 1 Skeptical Fire Chief = 3 DIVINE Mysteries

Today’s guest author is international bestselling suspense author Cheryl Kaye Tardif, whose newest release completes her Divine Trilogy. If you’re wondering what this trilogy is about, here’s part of the back cover of book 3, DIVINE SANCTUARY:

In the Divine trilogy finale, the heat is tripled when CFBI Agent Jasi McLellan must rescue Emily, the ghost girl that haunts her dreams; expose her own mother’s killer; and uncover a murderer that preys on the weak at Sanctuary, a controversial cult nestled in the woods near Mission, BC…

Most writers have a favorite character. Who is yours, and what inspired you to create this character?

Cheryl: Agent Jasmine (Jasi) McLellan—the main protagonist in my Divine Trilogy. She was born from my fascination with the mysterious gifts of psychics and my curiosity of “what would happen if…” Jasi is a covert government agent/pyro-psychic who, at the scent of smoke, can see into the mind of a serial arsonist/killer. I find her intriguing. Not only does she have this interesting gift, she has a flaw or weakness that comes with it. She also has a mysterious back-story that is being developed with the series, not to mention Jasi is being haunted by a “dead girl” in her bedroom closet.

Can you give us a taste of the themes explored in each of the Divine books?

Cheryl: DIVINE INTERVENTION, book 1, touches up issues of abuse, abortions, the foster system, and of course a serial arsonist/killer, and it takes you from Vancouver Island to the interior of BC. DIVINE JUSTICE, book 2, explores government officials and a deadly conspiracy, along with betrayal. It also brings Jasi one step closer to her mother’s killer. And DIVINE SANCTUARY is really about family and what makes a family. While investigating a murder at a cult, Jasi is led down various paths, and the two greatest mysteries (who killed her mother, and who is the ghost girl?) in Jasi’s life are finally resolved.

DIVINE SANCTUARY is your newest release. Where can readers pick up the ebook or paperback?

Cheryl: The ebook is available at most popular ebook retailers, including Amazon, Kobo Books, Smashwords, and iTunes (it’ll be soon available at B&N), and the paperback is available at Amazon or Createspace.

You have a contest on your Facebook page. Can you share that with us?

Cheryl: I’m holding a Rafflecopter contest and giving away some great prizes. To enter, visit my Facebook page HERE. If you’re on a mobile device, please go HERE. You can enter daily until August 31, 2014.

Divine Sanctuary 2About the Book:

There’s no place like home…

In the Divine trilogy finale, the heat is tripled when CFBI Agent Jasi McLellan must rescue Emily, the ghost girl that haunts her dreams; expose her own mother’s killer; and uncover a murderer that preys on the weak at Sanctuary, a controversial cult nestled in the woods near Mission, BC.

Something insidious lurks behind the safe haven of Sanctuary’s wrought iron gates. Led by the charismatic Father Jeremiah, the cult’s idyllic lifestyle seems perfect on the outside. But a lethal hunter is on the prowl, and in a carefully executed game of cat and mouse, the body count rises.

Along with Victim Empath Natassia Prushenko, Psychometric Empath Ben Roberts and Special Consultant Brandon Walsh, Jasi follows three trails of clues that lead to one terrifying conclusion: home is not always the safest place on earth.

Book Excerpt:

Emily emerged from the shadows of Jasi’s closet. She drifted forward, her feet barely touching the floor. Her head, with its long blonde hair, lolled at an awkward―strangled―angle.
In this dream, an adult Jasi gasped in surprise.
The pink skipping rope noose was gone.
“You’re ready, Jasmine.”
“Ready for what?”
“To start looking for me.”
Jasi stood still, mesmerized by the bruises around the girl’s neck. They were fading before her eyes.
“The skipping rope is gone,” she said finally. “And your bruises are disappearing.”
“Yours will too,” Emily said.
“I don’t have any bruises.”
Emily led Jasi to the mirror. When she peered into it, her image shifted from a young Jasmine back to her adult reflection. One arm was bent in front of her, throbbing as though someone was squeezing it hard then letting it go. Yellowed bruises dotted her arm.
Emily tried to smile. “In time all your bruises will fade. But first, ya have to set things right.”
“And how do I do that? Oh, right, I have to find you.”
“Yes. Find me.” The dead girl floated backward.
“Wait!” Jasi cried out. “Why did your bruises fade?”
“Because you’re one step closer to finding me.”
“How? I don’t know anything more than I did before.”
Emily blended into the shadows. Before they swallowed her, she said, “You may think you aren’t any closer to finding me, but trust me, you are.” Darkness closed in around her.
Jasi took an anxious step forward. “Emily?”
Silence greeted her.
And a mystery.
She took a deep breath. “I’ll find you, Emily.”

Taking It All (Surrender Trilogy, #3)

(Courtesy of the author’s website)

In her sensational Breathless Trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks tested the boundaries of desire. In her new trilogy, there’s only one thing left to do: cross them. And for a married couple taking steps to renew their marriage, the consequences of one single moment of inattention may come at a price the husband never expects.

Chessy and Tate have been married for several years. In the beginning, their relationship was everything she wanted. Passionate. All consuming. She offered her submission freely and Tate cherished her gift with a tenderness that made her feel safe. Content. Wanted. And loved beyond all measure. But as the years have gone by, Tate has become more immersed in making his business the success it has become, and Chessy has taken a back seat to his business obligations. Growing unhappier with the status of their once blissful marriage, Chessy knows that something has to give. Or they stand to lose it all

Tate loves his wife. Has always loved her. Providing for her has always been his number one priority. But lately she’s seemed unhappy, and he’s worried. Worried enough that he arranges for a night together that he hopes will reignite the fire that once burned like an inferno between them.

But a business call at the wrong time threatens everything. Chessy’s safety, his concentration, his wife’s faith in him as her husband, a man sworn to love and protect her above all else. Gutted with the realization that he’s going to lose her—has already lost her—he readies for the fight of his life. Whatever it takes, he’ll get her back. And prove to her that nothing is more important than her love. And that if she’ll allow him to prove himself one more time, he’ll take it all. Everything. But he’ll give far more back. Himself. His undying love.

About the author…
They say that once you reach your forties, you undergo some sort of mid-life crisis. That must have been what happened to Ashlyn Macnamara when she finally made up her mind to set down some of the stories that had been accumulating dust in the dark recesses of her brain for years. As space becomes available, other plots and characters have developed the pesky habit of moving in to take their place.

Ashlyn lives in the wilds of suburbia outside Montreal with her husband and two teenaged daughters. When not writing, she looks for other excuses to neglect the housework, among them knitting, reading and wasting time on the internet in the guise of doing research.

WHAT A LADY CRAVES by Ashlyn Macnamara is an exciting Historical Regency Romance set in 1800 England. #1 in “The Eton Boys” trilogy. What a beginning! Fast paced with danger, secrets, betrayal, passion and love. A captivating tale! One in which you get lost in the story. Well written, with engaging and strong characters. The storyline is intriguing as well as entertaining. A must read! I can hardly wait for the… rest of the trilogy.
