How to Marry a Royal Highlander (The Renegade Royals, #4)

Illegitimate yet thoroughly irresistible, the Renegade Royals are leaving behind their careers as daring spies for the greatest adventure of all…

At sixteen, Alasdair Gilbride, heir to a Scottish earldom, fled the Highlands and an arranged betrothal. Ten years later, Alasdair must travel home to face his responsibilities. It’s a task that would be much easier without the distracting presence of the most enticing woman he’s ever met…

After one escapade too many, Eden Whitney has been snubbed by the ton. The solution: rusticating in the Scottish wilderness, miles from all temptation. Except, of course, for brawny, charming Alasdair. The man is so exasperating she’d likely kill him before they reach the border—if someone else weren’t trying to do just that. Now Eden and Alasdair are plunging into a scandalous affair with his life and her reputation at stake—and their hearts already irreparably lost…

How to Marry a Royal Highlander (The Renegade Royals, #4)A moment later, Dailey ushered Evelyn Endicott into the room. She halted when she saw Aden, but smoothly recovered, a warm smile curving her lush mouth. Alec got a jolt, both to his brain and to his groin. The latter was an unerring barometer when it came to one person in particular.
The gorgeous young woman who’d just swept into his library was no more the wife of Wolf Endicott than Alec was the King of Spain.
“Mrs. Endicott, what a pleasure to see you,” Aden said with a bow.
The faux Mrs. Endicott dimpled up prettily and returned his greeting with a brief curtsey. “And you, Captain St. George, although I see I interrupted your meeting. Please forgive me.”
She cast what she no doubt thought was a shy, apologetic glance at Alec. He raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms over his chest. Her brows, partly hidden by her spectacles, tilted down in a frown.
But a moment later she was directing another charming smile at Aden, who seemed completely taken in by her silly charade. Alec almost laughed out loud at the notion of the outrageous Eden Whitney pulling the wool over the eyes of England’s most accomplished spy.
“No apology necessary, Mrs. Endicott,” Aden said. He nodded to Alec. “I’ll speak with later.”
Alec answered his cousin with a polite smile, enjoying the prospect of mocking him at a later date. But when Aden reached the door, he glanced over his shoulder, his eyebrows raised and his gaze glinting with laughter.
Clearly, the little minx hadn’t fooled Aden, after all.
The woman who was fast becoming the bane of Alec’s existence flashed him what she probably thought was an innocent, shy smile. It was nothing of the sort, of course. Eden Whitney exuded a mostly unconscious sensuality that could knock a man flat from twenty paces.
“I’m sure you must be surprised to see me,” she said in a sweet, quiet voice.
He had to admit she got the voice right. If he hadn’t been looking straight at her, he would have thought he was listening to Evie and not her diabolical twin.
“Give it up, Miss Whitney.” He took her by the elbow and steered her to one of the club chairs. “You’re not fooling anyone.”
She gaped up at him with astonishment. “Confound it, how do you do that? I haven’t been in the room for more than a minute.”
It wasn’t the first time Edie had switched identities with her twin, but it hadn’t worked any better with him this time than it had a few months ago. There were a dozen differences between the sisters, some quite noticeable. For one, Edie carried herself with a degree of confidence and restless energy her twin lacked. She cut a swath through the ton like a sharpened sickle through a field of ripe wheat.
There were more subtle signs as well, like the way her clothes hugged her generous curves just a little more snuggly than her sister’s. She might think she was fooling him by choosing a modestly cut carriage dress in dove gray, but Edie’s sense of dash always seemed to bleed through. No cautious ponderings or sober second thoughts for Miss Eden Whitney. To her, life was a challenge and a lark, something to be enjoyed to the hilt.
“Never mind that, you daft woman,” he said. “Have you no care for your reputation?”
She let out a disdainful snort. “Reputation? That’s rich, coming from you. You’re constantly doing outrageous things.”
“I’m a man. I can get away with it. You, however, cannot.”
“It’s so unfair,” she grumbled.

HOW TO MARRY A ROYAL HIGHLANDER by Vanessa Kelly latest Regency Historical Romance. #4 in and the final installment in  “The Renegade Royals” series, but can be read as a stand alone. Although, I would highly recommend reading this wickedly delicious series.

This is Alasdair Gilbride, an Illegitimate (Royal) Scottish Earl and ex- spy and Eden Whitney, a scandalous debutante, and this twin sister of Evie, from a previous book. Now she has scandalized the ton one time to many, and is sent to Scotland to rusticate. Of course, she is sent with the but charming exasperating Alasdair aka Alex.

“How to Marry a Royal Highlander” is a charming, cute, tale where the H/H enjoy a bit of witty, sarcastic banter, find themselves attracted to each other, try to solve a problem of Alex’s fiance(whom he did not agree to marry), and a find themselves in a  bit of danger.  The secondary characters are charming albeit a bit rough around the edges, and I must say rather rude. But a necessary evil to the story.  Alex did not ask or want to be put into the position he was placed in with his betrothal when he was sixteen, nor does he wish this complication in his life. As a spy, he was dangerous, but doesn’t seem to be so in this story.

Fast paced and filled with passion, danger, family, the quirks of clan life in the Highlands, suspense, and of course romance. I absolutely love Alex and Edie, they are realistic, engaging and endearing. The storyline was unique, although, not as traumatic or as much danger, as the others in this series. I absolutely love Ms. Kelly’s Scottish stories, and would highly recommend this one.  This was a fun story! I thoroughly enjoyed “How to Marry a Royal Highlander”!  Fans of Scottish Historical Romance with a touch of humor, danger, a bit of suspense and lots of witty banter will enjoy this engaging, enticing tale of finding true love and romance. A must read! Another hit for Ms. Kelly!

The family gathered afterward at Wilson’s mother’s house. It was hard not to feel the eyes of his relatives on him, just as it was hard not to notice the pats on the back Wilson received. Lopez had been well coached and sought Wilson out to thank him for his service. Danny wanted to leave and told his mother so, barely two hours into the get-together. He’d greeted politely all the relatives he recognized, and those who didn’t come up to him, he figured didn’t want to be re-acquainted. Not like Wilson.
As a youth, just hanging with Wilson would have normally been enough to make the afternoon interesting, but today, with the frostiness between the two cousins, it was forcing him into a dangerous place even the sweet recollection of the night with Luci couldn’t heal. Making matters worse, Wilson had watched as he dropped Luci back to her car at the Blue Coyote and made an off-color remark that irritated Danny further.
The two ignored one another until somehow they wound up waiting to use the only restroom in the house.
“Your mom says you’re ready to go home,” Wilson said to his cowboy boots.
“That’s right.”
“I honestly don’t know why you came in the first place, Danny.”
Danny’s right eye squinted a little. “We never liked these things, Wilson. You know that.”
“You’ve been gone, what, eight years or more?”
“Okay, then. Ten. And you can’t spend an afternoon giving these people the time of day?”
“I don’t belong here, Wilson.”
Wilson nodded his head. “Oh yeah. Forgot. You’re the one that got away. You trying to rub my nose in it, huh?.”
“I didn’t say that.”
“So what are you saying?”
“I’m saying I don’t want to be here. I’ve done my farewells, and now it’s time for me to adios.”
“You might consider the feelings of your mother.” Danny drilled him with a look that picked a scab.
“You hear the voices? Does the chanting get to you, Wilson?”
He could see his cousin was thinking about this carefully. It surprised him that Wilson didn’t give a quick answer no, which meant he heard the voices, too.
“Holy f**king shit, Wilson. You hear them, too. Just like I do.”
Emma Barnowl opened the bathroom door and their nostrils were hit with room deodorizer, which did a poor job of masking the smell she’d left behind.
“F**k me,” Wilson said under his breath. “I’m going out back.”
Danny followed his cousin, and within thirty seconds, was standing next to him, pissing on his aunt’s tomato plants, just like they used to do when they were boys of five. To this day, Danny hated tomatoes, especially home grown ones.
After they were done, they sat in metal lawn chairs. Wilson offered Danny a cigarette.
“I don’t smoke, and neither do you, or you didn’t,” Danny corrected himself.
“That’s funny,” Wilson said as he casually lit up and put his lighter and cigarettes back in his rear pocket.
“How come you didn’t wear your uniform?”
“It’s my choice. I didn’t think he’d like it.” Wilson took a long drag on his cigarette and blew it right at Danny’s face, but the wind carried it away.
“Thought you were proud of being a Navy boat guy.”
“I am. Got nothing to do with it. Kind of felt like it would be bragging or something, you know?”
Danny wondered about Luci, halfway expecting she’d drop by the gathering. Was he disappointed she’d stayed away? He couldn’t get the touch of her body against his out of his mind. That might be a reason to stay an extra day or two, but that would be a dangerous road, full of emotional potholes and entanglements. None of his liaisons ever turned out to last, so he figured it was better to remember her the way he’d left her. He saw her proud straight shoulders and those tight jeans encase thighs and a world-class ass as she walked toward her car and didn’t look back once. He knew the only good ones were the ones who didn’t look back.
“Look, Danny, I’m going to say this once, and then let you go. I’m sorry we got off to a bad start after so many years.”
“I was surprised you were around. Didn’t expect it.”
“So I was right, you’re not happy to see even me.”
“Again, putting words in my mouth.”
Wilson looked down, eyes landing on the scuffed cowboy boots, which were a mismatch to the clean suit pants and white shirt he wore. “I left this place with a lot of demons. I think I got just as many, maybe more than you, cuz.” Wilson took a final drag, stomped it out on the patio, and then threw the pieces into his mother’s vegetable garden.
A slight breeze shivered its way down Danny’s spine. A little group laughed from inside the house. He heard the tinkling of glasses and silverware, the sounds of cars arriving on the crushed rock roadway in front of his Aunt’s house, a doorbell ring, and the buzzing of a small plane overhead. The place looked and smelled and felt dangerously normal.
“I learned to tame those demons in the Navy, Danny. I’m not going to lie to you, but serving in the armed forces is giving me skills I can take out there in the real world.”
Danny found himself chuckling in spite of the fact that it was going to piss Wilson off. “Yeah, don’t see many rubber boats around the res, cuz. You training to be a white water rafting guide in the Canyon? Sh*t, you coulda done that in high school.”
“Except I was getting stoned in high school, Danny. So were you. I heard you were a real mess.”
“Rumors of my demise have been over exaggerated. I look like a mess to you?”
Wilson abruptly stood. “No, Danny, you look like a fuckin’ hero just like your grandfather.”
His cousin left and joined the gathering inside the house.

Tamea Burd PhotographySome writers receive their calling in childhood, and chart their course from there. I received mine at a rather more inconvenient life stage: while I was in first-year medical school.

Growing up, reading and writing fiction had always been my first love. My second just happened to be performing dissections in biology class. And because my scientific inclinations received just a smidge more encouragement from guidance counsellors, teachers, parents, random people on the street…well, you can see how these things happen.

But it wasn’t a mistake going to medical school. Throughout my years as a medical student and a resident I continued writing. That’s because: no matter what path one chooses, no matter how sensible and practical, a burning desire to write can never be fully quashed.

I am now a practising physician, a writer, and a mom. I’m also an active health blogger and writer. (You can read those blogs here, and here.)

After thirteen years stitching people’s lacerations, treating their sore throats, and checking their blood pressure, I recently became a published author. I have a wonderful agent, Sandy Lu of L. Perkins Agency, and a 3-book deal with Kensington Books. My first novel was published in June 2013, and the sequel was released in June 2014.

The director gestured for everyone to take a seat, and Mia settled onto the chair at the outside edge. She scanned each and every person.
No Raleigh.
He’s not coming. Get over it already.
The director, who knew Nancy from their volunteer work, welcomed everyone and said how touched she would be by the turnout. He introduced Mia and her parents, then spoke at length about the wonderful and sweet and feisty Nancy.
As Mia teared up over his sentimental words, she saw him. She blinked, just to make sure, but her heart knew immediately. The director’s voice faded into the roar of blood in her ears.
He stood behind the last row of chairs next to the thick trunk of an oak tree, in khakis and a maroon button-down dress shirt. His hair was trimmed, and he was clean-shaven. Not an ounce of fat on him judging by the way his shirt lay flat against his stomach. She gripped the edges of the chair as the ground tilted. Or was she tilting? God, don’t let me fall off the chair! No, you’re dizzy because you, uh, forgot to breathe!
Carefully, she pulled in a long, deep breath. Then another. The world was still blurry, and she wiped at her eyes to clear them—and found Raleigh in her sights. Which was even more startling, because she was pretty sure he was looking right at her.
She forced herself to breathe again, to shift her gaze to where it should be. The director invited people to come up and share a story or their thoughts. There was no hesitation as the first person stepped up to the microphone stand positioned in front of the chairs.
FALLING FASTSeveral people spoke from their hearts over the next twenty minutes, and everyone dabbed at their eyes, including Mia. She wrestled with whether to go up, but to put herself on display was more than she could bear. Her father went up and sounded like a politician as he thanked everyone for coming. The director made one last call, and Mia’s eyes went to Raleigh again. He leaned forward, his hand clenched on the tree. He clearly wanted to go up, but he looked at her father. Then at her. Then he rocked back on his heels again, his face tight with the war inside him.
Come up. I want to hear what you have to say. About Grandma. About your friendship with her.
I just want to hear your voice.
He remained in the shade of the tree. Mia certainly couldn’t think him a coward, not when she, too, was afraid to go up and speak. Facing cancer and burns wasn’t as hard as facing people, she mused. Wasn’t that crazy?
But then she stood. Walked to the microphone and fumbled as she adjusted it to her height. Cleared her throat and tried hard not to look at Raleigh. Instead, her gaze skipped across the rows and the ribbons dancing in the breeze.
“Thank you all for being part of her life. I . . .” Her eyes betrayed her, zeroing right in on Raleigh. Her thoughts froze. Time was suspended, everyone—every single person—focused on her. She cleared her throat, heat rising up her neck. “I’m jealous that you all got to spend time with her. To know her as a friend.” Her gaze went to Raleigh again. “Thank you,” she said again, thrashing herself for the impulse as she took her seat.
She would have no regret, though. If all those weeks and months and years of hospital stays had taught her anything, it was to let no opportunity slip by. Especially the ones where you left words unsaid. Important, life-changing words.
She searched through the people all getting to their feet. Raleigh leaned against the trunk now, his head tilted back. As though it were all too much to bear. The impulse now was to go to him.
FALLING FASTBut the director asked everyone to form a line to pay their respects before the casket was lowered into the ground. Mia had to follow her parents to form a reception line, where everyone offered their condolences before stepping up to the casket. Mia’s heart squeezed so tight that she could hardly breathe. Would Raleigh shake her hand? Hug her? Say in a low, intimate voice how very sorry he was for their loss? Their loss, because it was as much his as hers. Maybe more so.
As she accepted handshakes and hugs, she realized that she was so wrapped up in where he was that she wasn’t worried about anyone seeing her up close. The line was dwindling, and she couldn’t see him anywhere.

The Color of Vengence - CoverBOOK SYNOPSIS

Vengeance was the only burial gift he could bestow.

When Angli cattle thieves slaughter his wife and son, Dwras son of Gwyn vows revenge upon their murderers. But how can a mere farmer prevail against ruthless, trained warriors? For the answer Dwras must look not to his sword, but within his heart.

Dwras jabbed the offending warrior on the shoulder. With a grunt, the man swung his head around to fix narrow eyes upon him.

“What d’ye want?”

“My seat. I want it back.” Dwras lowered his eyebrows. “Now!”

“You—what?” The Lothian warrior’s laughter nearly made him choke. A grinning companion slapped his back.

“Oho, Farmer Dwras thinks he’s one of us, lads,” chortled another warrior, making a shooing motion. “Be off with you! Back to your pigs, farmer boy.”

They burst into cackles, hoots, and hog calls. Dwras felt his cheeks flush.

The warrior in Dwras’s seat found himself buried under sops and ale.

“My mistake, sir.” He grinned devilishly. “I thought this was the sty.”

Mornings Journey - Author PhotoAUTHOR BIO

Kim Headlee lives on a farm in southwestern Virginia with her family, cats, goats, Great Pyrenees goat guards, and assorted wildlife. People and creatures come and go, but the cave and the 250-year-old house ruins—the latter having been occupied as recently as the mid-twentieth century—seem to be sticking around for a while yet.

Kim is a Seattle native and a direct descendent of twentieth-century Russian nobility. Her grandmother was a childhood friend of the doomed Grand Duchess Anastasia, and the romantic yet tragic story of how Lydia escaped Communist Russia with the aid of her American husband will most certainly one day fuel one of Kim’s novels. Another novel in the queue will involve her husband’s ancestor, the seventh-century proto-Viking king of the Swedish colony in Russia.

For the time being, however, Kim has plenty of work to do in creating her projected 8-book Arthurian series, The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles, and other novels under her imprint, Pendragon Cove Press. She has been a published novelist since 1999, beginning with the original editions of Dawnflight (Sonnet Books, Simon & Schuster, ISBN 0671020412) and Liberty (writing as Kimberly Iverson, HQN Books, Harlequin, ISBN 0373771347).

The Color of Vengeance

A very quick read, but an excellent way to decide rather you would enjoy An Arthurian legend tale of vengeance by this author. A prequel to her “Dawnlight” series. An enjoyable and satisfying read. A sweet but violent tale of vengeance, and finding forgiveness.
Although, very short story, it is packed full of emotion!

Her Secondhand Groom
Groom Series, Book 2

What he wanted was a plain and meek wife to take care of his children and stay out of his bedroom. What he got was a fiery temptress who, despite her plain appearance, was far more desirable than he could handle.

Patrick Ramsey, Viscount Drakely, is used to having everything go according to his plans. And usually, it does, except when it comes to his three young daughters who are in desperate need of mother and governess. In an attempt to find a suitable woman, he stumbles upon the perfect woman for the post: Miss Juliet Hughes. Juliet, a local village girl, has been educated at London’s most highly respect school for young ladies, and better yet, her plain features will make it easy for him to keep his hands off of her.

But what Patrick doesn’t realize is this plain young lady from a humble background is anything but the docile, biddable young lady he bargained for, and if he’s not careful, he’ll lose his heavily guarded heart a little more with each encounter they have. With unshakable confidence and a strong determination, Juliet has no intentions of letting this lofty lord run roughshod over her and will stop at nothing to remind him that they may have been born at unequal stations, but where it counts, they’re matched perfectly.

August 1815

Her Secondhand Groom (The G...Devon
Patrick Ramsey, Viscount Drakely, sank his fingers into his thick black hair, curled them tightly around the silky strands, and then nearly pulled it all out. Why did his daughters have to choose right now to start singing? And of all the songs for them to pick, why did it have to be the one about that confounded London Bridge being broken down? Suppressing the groan that wanted to escape his throat the best he could, he settled for a quieter noise of aggravation: a sigh.

“All right, girls,” he began quietly, “that’ll be enough of that song for the day.”

Her Secondhand Groom (The G...“But Papa, we just started,” five-year-old Kate protested.

“And now you’re done,” he informed her quickly before jerking his gaze away. He loved his daughters, he really did. But as much as he loved them, they needed a mother, and they needed one in the worst way.

“You look like a porcupine,” Kate stated, reaching up to run her fingers through his out-of-sorts hair.

Patrick smiled thinly at her. “Thank you, poppet. I do what I can to expose you to the sights you may not otherwise get to see.”

Her Secondhand Groom (The G...She giggled, and Patrick’s smile grew bigger and decidedly more sincere.

Pulling Kate onto his lap, he leaned back against the blue crushed velvet squabs and looked at Helena and Celia. They’d both been unusually quiet today. Not that he was surprised they were so quiet. Before they’d gone to London for the Season, they’d spent a considerable amount of time with Miss Emma Green, now Lady Sinclair, a long time friend who was considering the post of governess. However, her marriage to Patrick’s friend, Marcus, put an abrupt end to any chance of Miss Green becoming the girls’ permanent governess, and condemned the girls once again to the insufferable Mrs. Jenkins’ care.

Not that Patrick and the girls weren’t happy for Marcus and Emma, they were. But, they were also disappointed. No one was more so than Patrick. His girls needed a decent governess. They also needed a mother. And to be honest, he had no idea which of the two they needed more.

Her Secondhand Groom (The G...He sighed again and set Kate back on the seat beside him. Just as he set her down and closed his eyes in deep contemplation, the carriage jolted with so much force he and Kate were nearly ejected from their seats, and would have been if Patrick had not planted his foot firmly on the floor to keep his seat and simultaneously grabbed Kate to keep her from sliding forward.

“Botheration,” Patrick mumbled under his breath. The carriage was completely stopped and leaning decidedly to the left. “Wait here, girls,” he said, moving to the door of the carriage. Briefly he wondered if they’d actually be safer outside the carriage. Dismissing the thought, he stepped out and looked to Cruxley, his coachman. “What the devil’s going on?”

Virtue and Valor

Highland Heather Romance A Scot Series, Book 2

Bartholomew Yancy never expected to inherit an English earldom and had no intention of marrying. Now, the Earl of Ramsbury and last in his line, he’s obligated to resign his position as England’s War Secretary, find a wife, and produce an heir. Only one woman holds the least appeal: Isobel Ferguson, an exquisite Scotswoman. Brought to Scotland to mediate between feuding clans, he doggedly woos her.

Disillusioned with men pursuing her for her attractiveness, rather than her unusual intellect, Isobel has all but abandoned any hope of finding a husband in the Highlands. Not only does she believe Yancy no different than her other suitors, he’s a notorious rake. She’s been told he’s practically betrothed. Therefore, his interest in her cannot possibly be honorable, and so she shuns his attentions.

When Isobel is mistakenly abducted by a band of rogue Scots, Yancy risks his life to rescues her. To salvage her compromised reputation, her brother and father insist she marry him. Yancy readily agrees, but Isobel—knowing full well she’s fated for spinsterhood by refusing his offer— won’t be coerced into marriage.

Virtue and Valor (Highland Heather Romancing a Scot, #2)MY THOUGHTS:

#2 in the “Highland Heather Romancing the Scot”, but can be read as a stand alone.
Fast paced, passion filled tale of love and romance.
I love everything about this book and this series, from the setting, to the characters to the storyline. Yes, I enjoy Highlanders and their perty Lasses! Once again, Ms. Cameron has shown her fans what it’s like to read a deliciously wicked tale and come away with a very good feeling. Well written with plenty of twists and turns, passionate kisses, with a compelling, intriguing story. Well done! I can’t wait for the next installment of “Highland Heather Romancing the Scot “. Oh, the secondary characters aren’t to shabby either. A must read and a keeper! This one’s been a long time coming, but well worth the wait, I believe!

Who’s Who in the Elite Ops Series~ EASY TARGET~ KAY THOMAS…with #Rafflecopter Giveaway

Who’s Who in the Elite Ops Series

Featuring sexy ex-military men … and the women who rescue their hearts

AEGIS: an elite team of ex-military men working under the radar of most governments. If you have a problem no one else can handle, they can help.

I’m having so much fun writing this series. I’ve even put together a Pinterest board of pictures of how I imagined the characters might look in the AEGIS agency. While I was writing the story I had a computer wallpaper of the heroes I put up to keep me inspired as I worked. I thought it would be fun to share my men of Elite Ops here along with their photos.

Leland Hollis characterLeland Hollis from HARD TARGET:

When HARD TARGET opens Leland Hollis is rethinking his career path with the DEA and a lot of other things in his life. Basically, he’s looking for redemption and finds it in helping the heroine, Anna Mercado and her son. I love that Leland is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Anna safe, even if it means driving her away. Her safety is far more important to him than her thinking he is a nice guy. That kind of searching humility is very appealing to me, and the whole badass-southern-boy-with-a-heart-of-mush persona makes me melt.Anna Mercado is on vacation in Mexico with her teenaged son when she overhears her estranged husband planning her murder. In the process of trying to get back home to the US to safety, she meets Leland Hollis. Leland agrees to help her, but neither of them realizes that getting Anna and her son back home only means their troubles are just beginning.Nick Donovan from PERSONAL TARGET:NIck Donovan

Taking care of family is the most important thing to Nick Donovan. But for years he’s been turning off his feelings, so he can do his job with the CIA. Seeing Jennifer Grayson, a woman from his past, tears down the wall Nick has built around himself and his heart. Jennifer turns everything back on. Those feelings and emotions all reignite with a vengeance. And yes, fireworks ensue. The book is about a case of mistaken identity and a very personal vendetta. Personal Target takes the reader from Dallas to Mexico, across the African Savanna, to the shores of the Mediterranean in a race against time for Nick to save the woman he loves but lost ten years ago.Bryan Fisher characterBryan Fisher (aka Hollywood) from EASY TARGET:

Bryan Fisher was introduced in HARD TARGET and also featured in PERSONAL TARGET. In EASY TARGET, he gets his own story. A former Marine, Bryan’s been drifting since coming home from the war in Afghanistan. He’s a temporary employee for AEGIS where he is able to keep himself and his emotions safely shut down so there is no longer any risk of losing people he cares for. But when Bryan’s best childhood friend is falsely accused of murder in Mexico, Bryan teams up the friend’s tag-a-long little sister, Sassy Smith, who is now all grown up and fighting her own demons. When Sassy is kidnapped in Africa while fighting to prove her brother’s innocence, Bryan will risk more than his heart to keep Sassy safe from a sex-trafficking drug cartel with ties to the deepest levels of government.Lily from EASY TARGET and her owner, Bear BennettLily and Bear Bennett

Not a main character and certainly not a man, still Lily’s picture has to be included. Lily is a four-month old English Bulldog who gets into everything. She belongs to Bear Bennett who is introduced in EASY TARGET and plays a bigger role in my next story. I figured you’d like a sneak peek at them both because what’s sexier than a hot guy and his dog?I hope you’ll enjoy reading about these heroes in the Elite Series as much as I’m enjoying writing them. Men who’ll do anything for their country … and their women.

Bryan spared only a glance for the three men on the ground before holstering his Glock. They weren’t going anywhere. One had a broken neck, the other a cracked skull, and the third would be unconscious for several hours.
He felt the adrenaline spike as he looked at Sassy. Her blouse was torn, and the flowing skirt she was wearing when he last saw her in Niamey was dirty and hiked up to the point where he could see her ripped panties and tell that she preferred bikini waxes over Brazilians. The bra she wore looked like something featured in the X-rated dreams he’d had about her over the past six months, even with a torn strap.
She was shaking like crazy, and her eyes were huge as she stood in the shadowed alleyway. He was shaking himself. So grateful he’d found her before any more damage had been done to her, he didn’t know what to say.

As it turned out, he didn’t have to say anything, because she immediately began peppering him with questions as she threw herself into his arms. “Ohmigod! You’re here. How did you find me? What is going on? Are they dead?”
The questions came with the rapid-fire pace of a machine gun. Even when scared out of her mind, Sassy could pull it together, and she never stopped thinking. As a kid, she could cope with disaster better than anyone he knew, and as an adult, she hadn’t relinquished the title.
A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, and his body tightened with the inevitable response to that adrenaline dump and the lightning-fast switch from killing a man to embracing an abundant armful of warm woman. He knew the hug was an anomaly and decided he better enjoy it while it lasted.
He took a moment to hold her to his chest. “It’s complicated. I don’t know, and two of them are dead, yes.”
Sassy still clung to him, even as she stilled in his arms and tried to step back. He held on to her a moment longer until her hands changed from grasping him around the neck in honest relief to an abrupt slide across his chest with a red-tipped fingernail. He let her go, but he didn’t want to. The comfort of finding Sassy safe washed over him, along with the realization that no matter how hard he’d tried, he hadn’t been able to stop thinking of her since they’d reconnected last summer after Trey’s arrest.

About the author…

Kay Thomas didn’t grow up burning to be a writer. She wasn’t even much of a reader until fourth grade. That’s when her sister read The Black Stallion aloud to her. For hours Kay was enthralled—shipwrecked and riding an untamed horse across desert sand. Then tragedy struck. Her sister lost her voice. But Kay couldn’t wait to hear what happened in the story—so she picked up that book, finished reading it herself, and went in search of more adventures at the local library.

Today Kay lives in Dallas with her husband, two children, and a shockingly spoiled Boston terrier. Her award-winning novels have been published internationally.
