We have with us today, Paranormal/Science Fiction Romance author,K.M. Fawcett…..

Welcome K.M.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a little about yourself?

K.M.: My husband and I own a dojo in New Jersey where we teach Isshinryu karate and Ryukonkai (Okinawan weapons). Side note: sparring is great marital therapy J. In addition to writing sci-fi/ paranormal romances, I like to ski, run, hike, and camp. I have two children – one with a passion for drumming, and one with a passion for ballet. Unfortunately, neither shares their mom’s passion for reading or writing. *shrugs*

MBA&M: What made you decide to write Paranormal Romance?

K.M.: I love how anything can happen in paranormal, fantasy, and science fiction stories. There is so much adventure, wonder, and excitement to explore. Different words, different creatures, unique mythology. Since these are the stories I like to read about and watch on TV or in the movies, it was only natural for me to write them.

MBA&M: What inspired you to write “Captive”? What was your inspiration behind writing a Paranormal with aliens, captivity, and the “Survival Race”?

K.M.: While watching the rescue of mistreated horses on an episode of Animal Cops, I wondered how people would feel if they were penned up and abused like that. What if humans were the pets, and someone–aliens perhaps–bred us and gambled on us for entertainment like we do with horse racing, dog racing, and cockfights? This led me to ponder Greek and Roman gladiators fighting to the death for entertainment. The idea for CAPTIVE was born.

MBA&M: What was the challenges in writing “Captive”?

K.M.: The writing itself is the most challenging for me. I do well with the ideas, but getting them onto the page like I see them in my mind or feel them in my heart is difficult. Thank God for my critique group, beta readers, and editors.

MBA&M: What was the hardest scene to write and why?

K.M.: I think the hardest scenes for me to write were the love scenes. It took me a while to really understand my characters and decide how they would relate to/ respond to each other intimately. This intimacy has to propel the story forward. Love scenes are so much more than placing tab A into slot B.

MBA&M: Using three words would you use to describe “Captive” writing style, and the characters?

K.M.: This is such a difficult question. I’ll leave it up to the readers to determine my writing style. However the three words I’d use for the characters are intriguing, courageous and captivating.

MBA&M: Who would you say influenced your writing career? Why?

K.M.: So many people influenced my writing career from family to writer friends and beta readers. But the one person who influenced my decision to begin writing was Diana Gabaldon. I don’t know her personally, but I’d read some advice she’d given that basically said if you want to be a writer, sit down and start writing. So I did. J

MBA&M: Last but not least, please tell our readers where to connect with K.M. Fawcett and where they may find “Captive”?

K.M.: I’d love to hear from readers. They can connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, my website or at – a group blog I participate in with 3 other martial artists/ authors, where we discuss writing, martial arts, and action-packed fiction.

Thank you so much for having me here on My Book Addiction and More!

K.M. Fawcett was a born romantic. At six years old, she would beg her parents to take her to a restaurant with, “Soft music and candles” where she could drink Shirley Temples and twirl on the dance floor. As she grew, her desire to be whisked into a romantic adventure by a knight in shining armor also grew – to the point of annoying her friends and family. When she received A Knight In Shining Armor (a novel by Jude Deveraux) for her eighteenth birthday, she fell in love…with the romance genre.
