From author’s website:

Donna Grant is the award winning author of more than twenty novels spanning multiple genres of romance – Scottish Medieval, historical, dark fantasy, time
travel, erotic, and paranormal.

Donna was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica and Mexico. Growing
up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.

Her childhood dream was to become a professional ballet dancer and study under the amazing Mikhail Baryshnikov. Though she never got to meet Baryshnikov, she did make it to New York City and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later, Donna’s love of the romance genre and the constant stories running through her head prompted her to sit down and write her first book. Once that book was completed, there was no turning back.

Donna sold her first book in November 2005 while displaced from Hurricane Rita, a storm that destroyed portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Since then, Donna has sold novels and novellas to both electronic and print publishers. Her books include several complete series such as The Druids Glen, The Shields, The Royal
Chronicles, the Sisters of Magic, and the Dark Sword series.

Despite the deadlines and her voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two young children, three cats, and one long haired Chihuahua. She’s blessed with a proud, supportive husband who’s learned to cook far more than frozen chicken nuggets.

Rebecca Ann Collins is the pen name of a lady in Australia who loves Jane Austen’s work so much that she has written a series of 10 sequels to Pride and Prejudice, following Austen’s beloved characters, introducing new ones, and bringing them into a new historical
era.Thoroughly researched and beautifully written, this series has been extremely successful in Australia with over 80,000 books sold.

Thank you for inviting me to contribute to My Book Addictions – it’s a pleasure to speak directly to you and your readers.

MBA: Rebecca, tell our readers a little about yourself?

RAC: Apart from being a writer, I am a reader, a teacher and a librarian, with a lifelong interest in both History and Literature. Like most readers, I have my favourites, but I read and collect an eclectic range of books, which includes the classics, memoirs, history and sociology as well as children’s stories. In the field of Fiction, I have specialised in eighteenth and nineteenth century English literature, from Fielding, Austen and the Brontes to George Elliott, Mrs Gaskell, Charles Dickens, Thackeray and Galsworthy. While I enjoy the work of all these writers, I confess my addiction to Jane Austen started early and continues to this day. My other loves are Music, Art and gardening and I live in Canberra, Australia’s beautiful capital city, which affords me many opportunities to indulge all these passions.

MBA: What if anything made you decide to write “Expectations of Happiness”?

RAC: Having concluded the Pemberley Chronicles Series ( which took  ten years  from 1996 to 2006 and then three more years working with Sourcebooks on the reprints of the series) – I was playing around with an idea I had had for a companion volume to “Sense and Sensibility”, which of all Austen’s novels, is the one that most
leaves the door open to a sequel. As I explain in the introduction to the book,  the original novel ends without a completely satisfactory conclusion in the case of Marianne Dashwood and also leaves open the question of the future of the youngest sister- Margaret. I found this inviting and using the clues to the characters left by Austen herself, decided to work out a credible storyline  for a companion volume. By a happy coincidence, Sense and Sensibility was published in 1811- so it seemed appropriate to have Expectations of Happiness- released
exactly 200 years later. The title is taken from a line in the original novel- “ that sanguine expectation of happiness, that is happiness itself.”

MBA: Were you always a Jane Austen fan?

RAC: Ever since I read “Pride and Prejudice” and “Sense and Sensibility”, which I received on my twelfth birthday, which was a long time ago. Since then I have studied all of Jane Austen’s work, read her letters and early fragments of her writing and collected everything I could lay my hands on about the author, her life and times. I became fascinated with the period before during and after her tragically short life and at University, I made a special study of both the History and Literature of that era. I find that I am quite comfortable with the
values of Miss Austen and feel great empathy for her characters, particularly the strong women, who in that era were mostly denied  the right to participate in  society as fully as we do today, yet despite this, many made remarkable contributions to their communities.

MBA: If you had to describe your writing, who do you think you best write like?

RAC:  This is a difficult question, because I do not think I consciously try to write like any one in particular. As a general rule, I do not think it is wise for new writers to model themselves on other writers – far better to develop one’s own style. I certainly did not set out to imitate the mannered literary style of Jane Austen; that would have been presumptuous indeed!

However, when writing the Pemberley Chronicles Series, I was aware of the need to suit the style to the material, the period and characters I was writing about and I developed a generic nineteenth century narrative style, which flowed naturally, without being contrived or stilted.

MBA: What is on the horizon for you and your writing?

RAC: While a writer always has some creative ideas floating around- I cannot write to order, so I shall take some time out to enjoy what my readers have to say about “Expectations of Happiness” before I get back to working on an interesting project  about which I am not at liberty to say more at this stage.

MBA: Now, Rebecca, tell us where to find you and your books.

RAC: All my books are available through Sourcebooks Inc.  or through amazon.com and other booksellers online and in book stores.

Author’s bio:

In a job that pays the mortgage and allows her to indulge in her real passion, writing, Kim Wollenburg, writing as Cassiel Knight, works for Clackamas County in the beautiful state of Oregon. Crazily passionate about the writing industry, Kim published a paranormal romance with Samhain Publishing and has a post-apocalypse novella coming in early 2012 from Lyrical Press. She writes paranormal romances with kick-assitude that blend archeology and mythology – just a few of her favorite things. Kim is the proud current president of Rose City Romance Writers, a feisty bunch of talented writers who are just as passionate about writing as they are about helping each other succeed.
When she’s not writing or doing writing-related things, Kim enjoys spending time with her patient and loving husband of 20 years and thrives with the adorable companionship of her three Shih Tzus, Ginger, Abby and Chloe.

MBA: What made you decide to write?

“Relic Defender: Key of Solomon” if anything? Well, it’s been a while and the story has gone through
several incarnations, but what I remember that put the spark for this story was the now defunct Silhouette Bombshell line. I’d written one futuristic romance targeted for that line because I love heroines with kick-assitude (hence the tag line) and when that was finished, I wanted to write about a hurting woman
and a fallen angel – another subject I found interesting. Plus, I was watching Tomb Raider and Relic Hunter and really thought about how to combine the two. It didn’t actually work out that way – the story is light on Tomb Raider and Relic Hunter elements, but I did write about angels and demons which I also
wanted to do – long before they became popular. Oh, and I wanted to mix mystical historical details as well and Egypt. So, basically, I had a soup of wonderful ideas and Relic Defender series is how I combined them, with Key of Solomon as the first book.

MBA: How many books will be in “Relic Defender” series?

Actually,I’m not quite sure. I have at least three. Book 2, The Death Skull, is in progress and scheduled to come out next August. Book 3 is outlined and I know the story. I haven’t thought much beyond that. Yet. I love the world I’ve created and would enjoy staying there. I don’t foresee getting tired of it and there are certainly enough story ideas that it could keep going. I hope the readers will tell me whether they want the series to continue. I would certainly enjoy continuing to write it. In fact, if readers want to get a taste
of book two, they can visit my blogsite specifically set up to launch Relic Defender.

MBA: Do you feel a deep connection to your characters? Why?

I’m not sure how to answer this. I know other writers have felt passionate about their characters and feel as if they are “real” but I’ve never quite got there. I do feel something for them. I tend to think of them long after I’ve moved on. For example, I find myself thinking of Lexi and Mikos which could be a factor of connection
or the fact I’m writing book 2. The book I’m currently shopping has a heroine I adore. Her name is Mia and I think about her a lot. However, again, this could be in connection with the fact I’m still revising the story based on feedback. I really love all my characters, even the villains. I think I have yet to write about one who is that deep connection. I think the closest I’ve gotten is this futuristic I’m working on and that’s the hero. He’s so dark and tortured that I want to finish his story and give him his happily-ever-after because he really
needs it. Good question – I’ve never thought about this before. J

MBA: Can you give our readers a few tidbits about your next project?

I just finished edits for my post-apocalypse romance coming out from my new publisher, Lyrical Press, in
February. The Lyrical page isn’t up yet, but if you want to read an excerpt, you can visit my blog at www.CassielKnight.com. I’m 200 pages into The Death Skull, book 2 (after Key of Solomon), and I’m revising a third book, the first of a separate series which I like to say is Tomb Raider meets the Librarian and is about the half-immortal children of the Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. I also have a futuristic romance about 2/3 complete I’d like to finish. Yes, I have a lot on my plate, and I love every minute of it.

MBA: What advice do you have for any aspiring authors?

My favorite from a quirky movie called Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen – Never Give Up, Never Surrender. I almost did with Key of Solomon. I had actually pulled all references to Relic Defender from my computer and
archived. But the story kept talking to me and I finally found the right editor and publishing house. And that was scary because I almost didn’t follow-up with my new editor. When I did, when I gave it one last shot, I learned she’d never seen the full. So, here’s another piece of advice – don’t hesitate to nudge. Give it the proper amount of time but then nudge. I would not be published and on my way to a career as an author if I hadn’t nudged my editor. Talk about scary.

MBA: Tell our readers a little about you, Cassie?

I’ve been a writer ever since I can remember. This, I’m afraid, isn’t as far back as most writers seemed to remember. The first time I put pen to paper to write fiction was after reading The Flame and The Flower by Rosemary Rogers. At the time, I was in high school and thought being able to write such a terrific story must be the most amazing thing in the world. Turned out it was; however, I wasn’t the writer. I still kept writing. But not fiction. I wrote for newsletters, drafted publications in the military, training outlines, business
letters and more. Everything but fiction. It wasn’t until AOL came along that I found fiction again. Actually, it was a combination of AOL, Moondust and Madness by Janelle Taylor (futuristic romance) and a dream. After I read Moondust, I fell in love with futuristic romance and started telling myself a story in my head until I went to sleep at night. I “wrote” the whole first chapter in my mind and then one night, while my husband was stationed in Guam, I didn’t stop writing the story after I feel asleep. I remember the next
morning waking up and knowing I had a story and that I had to write it. At the same time, I discovered the romance section of AOL and knew this was my dream. So, I put fingers to computer and wrote my first book, Written in the Stars which I still have and no, not sure I plan on publishing. It didn’t matter though. I was hooked on writing romance and have been hooked ever since.

MBA: How/where can our readers find you?

I do. I’m working on regularly updating my main website, www.cassielknight.com. I also periodically post on www.relicdfndr.wordpress.com and talk  about the Relic Defender series with Samhain. I’m posting tidbits of information about the series, deleted scenes and other information. The site I currently do the bulk of my posts is through www.seejanepublish.wordpress.com.

Good morning Susan and welcome to My Book Addiction and More today…

Thank you!  I’m so delighted to be here!
MBA: First, Susan, tell our readers a little about yourself?

Sure.  I live in the north shore of MN (where I’ve conveniently placed Deep Haven!) and I’ve been married for nearly 25 years.  I have four children, two in college, two who play football for our local team.  I love to drink coffee, read, write, swing dance and hang out online with my friends!  I’m also the author of 34 Novels, and run a craft and coaching community for novelists called www.mybooktherapy.com.

MBA: Hook,Line and Sinker is set in Deep Haven, can you tell our readers how many books will be in this series?

Already, we have four in the collection:  Happily Ever After, Tying the Knot, The Perfect Match, and My Foolish Heart.  Hook, Line and Sinker is a novella to complement these books by veering off into the
territory of one of the main characters, Noah Standing Bear and his wilderness camp.  There will be two more books in the Deep Haven collection:  The Shadow of Your Smile (out in Feb 2012) and You Don’t Know
Me (out in the fall 2012).

MBA: What made you decide to use the settings for both Hook,Line, and Sinker and Waiting for Dawn?

Hook, Line and Sinker is set in Deep Haven – an offshoot of the collection to enhance the stories.  Waiting for Dawn is actually the prequel to Flee the Night and the Team Hope series.  It’s set in Iraq.
MBA: Who do you credit your desire for writing to and why?

I think God puts in us the desire to use our passions and gifts – I am just trying to be a good steward of those.  I love to write, love to weave words and stories and meet the characters roaming around in my head.  It’s terribly scary how real they feel to me!  But once they step onto the page, I can’t help but want to see their story through and give them a happy ending!
MBA: Susan, what relaxes you after a long day of writing?

I love to go out swing dancing with my hubby!  And, if there isn’t any dance bands, then I’m happy to stay home and watch some football. J  And a hot cocoa is always a treat.
MBA: Susan, can you tell our readers what some of your next project(s) may be?

My next book out is the Shadow of Your Smile, the story of a woman who loses her memory of the past 25 years when she is injured during a robbery.  However, when she discovers the life she’s created, she isn’t sure she
wants to get it back!  Not only is she married to a man she doesn’t know, but the secrets surrounding the family just might destroy her.  And, when she discovers what they are, does she have the courage to face them or should she just start over? It’s a story about a broken marriage and just how far two people have to go to discover if they want to repair it.  It’s also set in Deep Haven, in winter, and it has all the characters I’ve introduced over the years.
MBA: Now, tell our readers how to reach you and where your books are available?

They can find them at their local bookstore, or online retailers.  For a complete listing, go to: www.susanmaywarren.com

“His Last Duchess”by GabrielleKimm

Good morning!

MBA:  Gabrielle, tell our readers a little about yourself?

I’m one of four sisters, raised in rural Sussex (on the South Coast of England), where I now live with my own family – I have two teenage girls.  I love country life – my dog and I walk every day, watching the seasons change (well, I watch the seasons change – the dog just sniffs and barks and runs around).  I play the piano and sing; I’ve been paid to sing a few times, but no one has yet paid me to play the piano …  I’ve been
a committed vegetarian for about twenty five years.  I have a Masters Degree in Creative Writing
and I’m a qualified English teacher.  I’m very untidy and forgetful – my main form of exercise is running upstairs to see if I can remember what it was I forgot last time I was there.

MBA: Can you tell our readers why you chose sixteenth-century Tuscany and Ferrara as the setting for “The Last Duchess”?

That’s easy. It’s all thanks to Victorian poet, Robert Browning.  I fell in love with his poem, ‘My Last Duchess’ – a dramatic monologue, narrated by the wonderfully sinister fifth duke of Ferrara, who smugly admits that he had his late wife permanently silenced because she irritated him once too often – and I decided that I simply had to write a novel, exploring what really happened.  The story clearly needed to be set at the time of the events of the poem – that is, Ferrara in 1559 –  because that’s where the duke lived, and when!

MBA:  How hard was it to find research during this era for your writing purposes?

After all the excitement of the initial idea had died down, and I had scrambled the bare bones of a plot together, I had a bit of a panic, when I realized what an enormous task I had set myself.  I knew SO little about the era and the place!  I started by browsing the British Library catalogue for likely titles of research books, and located about half a dozen, which I duly borrowed.  Several of those were really helpful, so I bought copies of them (not wanting to have to give them back!).  I trawled the internet, of course, and found masses of information there.  If I found a website I thought promising, I would contact the writer directly, and ask specific questions, and I was continually amazed by the feedback I got  – people are SO generous with their time and expertise.  I did a fair amount of hands-on research – flying falcons, consulting a herbalist, visiting the locations in Italy, and analyzing my duke with a psychiatrist friend.  And if something I badly wanted to know was just completely impossible to track down … then, being a novelist rather than a historian … I made it up.  (I love my job!)

MBA: How did you choose who was to be the villain and who the hero/heroine, or did they choose themselves in your mind?

Ooh, I’ve never thought of it like that.  I never really plan in advance what role my characters are going to play, as such – I wouldn’t want to pigeon-hole them.  In the early stages of a book, I just need to get to know them as people, and to see how they work together, and their roles become clear as the writing progresses.  It’s not always possible to predict how a character is going to react in a given situation – you know what you want them to do (because you plan it in advance) but when you get there, sometimes your characters feel quite
differently about things to how you expect them to.  This can be quite annoying when it doesn’t fit in with your plans!

MBA: Can you tell our readers a few tidbits about your future project(s)?

My second book, ‘The Courtesan’s Lover’, which is a ‘spin off’ from ‘My Last Duchess’ will be coming out with Sourcebooks in May 2012.  This takes a secondary character from ‘Duchess’ – the duke’s long-suffering mistress, Francesca – and gives her centre-stage in her own story.  She is living in Naples, in
this book, and is working hard to achieve the prestigious status of ‘cortigiana onesta’ –‘honest’ courtesan,
though of course, things do not progress smoothly.  My new, third novel (it doesn’t have a name yet) is in the very early stages – and it’s still a bit too tender and delicate to allow outside on its own.   All I’ll say is that it will be set in seventeenth century Paris – in the time of Louis XIV, the Sun King – and that it opens with an execution!

MBA: Gabrielle, after a long day with deadlines, personal issues, family and of course friends what do you do to relax?

I hesitated about what to put here.  I thought about inventing something really exciting or interesting to entertain you all, but then I thought that I’d probably better admit to the truth. After a long day, I’m most likely to veg out in front of the TV, I’m afraid.  Hopefully a lovely historical drama, like Downton Abbey, or The Crimson Petal and the White, but I’m just as happy watching  rubbish when I’m really tired.

MBA: Now Gabrielle, tell our readers where to find you and your books?

MBA: Tell our readers a little about yourself?

Well, I’ve been writing romance and suspense for a good few years. As Kathleen Korbel I wrote Silhouette romance and gained a place in the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. As Eileen Dreyer I’ve also written best-selling medical-forensic suspenses set mostly in my native St. Louis.

I’m now writing what I call historical romantic adventure, set in the Regency period. I’m following a group of gentleman spies(I know. It’s been done. But it’s been done because it’s so much fun) as they fight to protect England from nefarious spies(I love nefarious spies).

In my other life, I’m a mostly retired trauma nurse who is trained in forensics and death investigation, including a stint learning how to be a medic on a SWAT team. My real addiction, though, is traveling with my husband. I am the Queen of Internet Travel and love to share my experiences and recommendations(see my Travel for Fun page on my website)

MBA: What do you find intriguing,if anything, about writing during the Regency era?

I love this period. Not only were there very specific parameters to behavior for everyone, but there was still romance and beauty, and the remains of an agrarian society that would soon be lost to industy. The whole world was in upheaval. Not only had an entire generation been defined by the war with Napoleon, but this was the very beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the rise of the middle class in England; the world was opening for exploration and exploitation, and social mores were just about to make a radical change. There is so much material, so many real who inspire stories. And it was still a time when heroes were heroes.

MBA: What relaxes you after a hard day of writing? And who or what helps you to relax the most?

Well, right now I’m watching Cardinal baseball(although after this season I’m not sure how relaxing it is). I am a rabid gardener. Not only is there something soothing about playing in the dirt, but I love flowers. They provide a certain immediate gratification. You plant them, water them, feed them, and all they want to do is  bloom. My garden gets bigger every year(but I’m a terrible fall gardener).

And then, when my husband and I scrape two dimes to rub together, we travel. The world is infinitely fascinating, and there are so many people to meet and get to know. And half the fun for me is the planning. I truly am the Queen of Internet Travel.

MBA: Eileen, can you give our readers a few tidbits about any future project(s)?

Well, my fondest wish is to write every Rake’s story. I’ve just learned from Grand Central Forever that they want the next   two stories, those of Ian Ferguson and Alex Knight. Chuffy also gets his story in Alex’s book. I really hope I get to do all of them, because I already know what their stories are, and I’m dying to write them.

MBA:  Now, Eileen, tell our readers where to find you and where to purchase “Always A Temptress”?

Temptress is out everywhere in paper and ebook. I’d love for   you to find it and let me know what you think. And if you’ve  seen any of the discussion on my last two books, you’ll know that not everybody liked them. But everybody seemed passionate about them, and that makes me happy.

As for finding me,I have a website, of course.   Www.eileendreyer.com. I’m on Facebook with
my page and a page for Drakes Rakes, Twitter(eileendreyer), and GoodReads. I tend to be streaky, as they say in baseball, showing up a lot one day and not so much the next while I  try and write. But I always get there. And if you want to drop me a note, my
email is simple.      eileendreyer@eileendreyer.com.

Thanks so much for inviting me to visit. I’ve really enjoyed the time, and hope everybody gets something out of my answers. And I leave you all with my own question. I know you’ve read historical series. What kind do you like best? Families? Spies? Brothers-in-arms or brothers-from-schools? And why?

Thank you, Eileen so much for visiting with us today…

And for my answers to your questions,I love all historicals. But I have to admit  I enjoy, spies better than families,Brothers-n-Arms better than Brothers-n-school. Why,you ask,I think because I enjoy the call to action by the brother-n-arms,and ,the promise of more danger. Spies better  than families, I don’t really know I guess because spies seem to see more action.Although, families can get pretty dare active also.

Each morning shortly after the sun rises over Spokane, Washington, New
York Times
bestselling author Linda Lael Miller pulls on her cowboy boots
and heads for the stables for a few quiet moments with her horses before she
settles in to write her pages for the day.

As the daughter of a town marshal, Linda has come home to the western
lifestyle that gave birth to one of today’s most successful authors. The
self-confessed barn goddess left Washington years ago and pursued her
wanderlust, living in Arizona and London and traveling the world. Now the author
of more than 100 novels, the “First Lady of the West” is glad to be back home,
writing contemporary and historical stories that have earned her awards and
placements on all the national bestsellers lists.

Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport
teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might
have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured
her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s
in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully
published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, and thrillers before coming
home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For
her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their
prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

Linda’s 2011 contemporary Creed Cowboy trilogy—A Creed in Stone
, Creed’s Honor and The
Creed Legacy
, released in March, June and July, respectively—each
debuted in the number one position on the New York Times bestseller

Why I wrote Land of Falling Stars .. .

I love historical romance, always have. I cut my teeth reading Rosemary Rogers and Kathleen Woodiwiss. Oh-oh, I think I just gave away my age. I remember reading Rogers under the covers with a flashlight, my heart thundering in my chest while I waited to see what Steve would do to Ginny once he discovered her latest faux pas.

Today, I read everything Joanna Bourne releases (Spymaster’s series) and Helen Kirk man. At least once a year, I rediscover the magical characters in a book called The Windflower (a pirate novel) by husband and wife team Laura London. Alas, they never wrote a sequel. I would have devoured books about their secondary characters, particularly Cat.

It’s little wonder when I started my writing career, I gravitated toward Historical Romance. The inspiration behind my books arrive through various vehicles—a dream or by people-watching.  For Land of Falling Stars, I read a true-life article about the Civil War, specifically cousins who lived in the same county and fought for opposite sides. This was not unusual at the time. County boundaries were murky and sympathizers for the North frequently lived in the South—and vice versa.

Let’s draw an imaginary line across this great country we live in, and let’s imagine a civil war breaks out. You live in the upper part of the US, but have close family and friends who live in the bottom half. Near the boundary lives a horde of people who aren’t sure where they stand but are forced to choose. And they do choose for one reason or another.

The story about the cousins fascinated me. I couldn’t fathom how one could pick up arms and fight against their brethren. I spun off from that plot in Land of Falling Stars. What if two childhood friends grew up and fell in love with the same woman? What if one man fought for the North, the other for the South? What if the bond between the three was stronger than cement and not even war could separate the vast love they held for one another?

Thus, Land of Falling Stars was born. This is the story of Jesse, Gavin and Sophia. They lived in Virginia,
a state with citizens deeply loyal to the South in all respects. Yet, Gavin’s family hailed from the North. You can see where this is going, right?

LOFS is not a complicated story; but a simple account of what happens between people when war knocks on our door. It’s a narrative of friendship, loyalty, betrayal and vast, abiding love. We won’t always like the characters’ actions or motives in the book, but to truly understand them and the world they’ve been thrust into,
we must put our modern belief system aside and walk in their shoes of the time.

I hope you enjoy reading Land of Falling Stars as much as I enjoyed writing the book.

My best to you with sincere wishes that all your reads take you on memorable journeys you’ll never forget,
