Whenever Alexandra Caroline O’Rourke, AKA Alex, met with trouble, she generally blamed her younger sister, Jackie. And Alex’s sudden engagement to marry a Viking prince, against her will, probably classified as trouble. If nothing else, a wedding held in 11th century Ireland would make it difficult to invite her friends from San Diego. Regardless of blame, Jackie was the only person who could help Alex, but Jackie was still in the 21st century. And Jackie had her own problems, which included uncooperative fairies and strange songs which only she could hear. But most of all, if Jackie could not find a way to make it rain, marauding Vikings would be the least of their worries, because this is Feathered: being a fairy tale and this is an Alex and Jackie Adventure.

Award winning writer and film-maker, Tom Weston, returns to the fantasy genre for his 3rd novel in the Alex and Jackie Adventure series, FEATHERED: BEING A FAIRY TALE. Originally from England, Tom now resides in Boston, Massachusetts. But determining that the business world lacked a sense of humor, Tom decided to hand in his jacket and tie and instead turned to the world of literature. His novel, FIRST NIGHT, set in Boston during the New Year’s Eve festival, introduced the unlikely heroines, Alex and Jackie, and the ghost of a 17th century Puritan named Sarah Pemberton. FIRST NIGHT won an Honorable Mention in the Middle-Grade/Young Adult category, in the Writers Digest 17th Annual International Self-Published Book Awards. The sequel to FIRST NIGHT, called THE ELF OF LUXEMBOURG, was published in January, 2010. As with FIRST NIGHT, THE ELF OF LUXEMBOURG is also a supernatural mystery, with a blend of humor and history that has become Tom’s trademark. Following the publication of THE ELF OF LUXEMBOURG, Tom turned to the medium of film to produce and direct the award winning animated short, THERE BE MONSTERS!, based on one of his TALES FROM THE GREEN DRAGON TAVERN. Tom also wrote the critically acclaimed and award winning, Historical Fiction novel, FISSION, based on the true life story of scientist, Lise Meitner. Rachel PicMBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about yourself?

I am crazily married with four children. When kids aren’t around, I love to snowboard and play all kinds of sports, but writing is my passion. Interesting tidbit – the first boy I ever kissed in currently in jail for murder. Glad I dodged that bullet!

MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind writing “Fractured Soul”?

I knew after writing Fractured Light that there was more to Llona’s story. And the opportunity to write about an all girls school set in the forests of New York was to tempting to pass up. Fractured Soul is a lot darker than Fractured Light, and I dig that.

MBA&M: Have you always wanted to write Young Adult fiction and Fantasy?

I love the fantasy/paranormal genre. Anything can happen and as an author I like to exploit that fact. And I love writing for young adults. It’s a time where there’s many firsts: first love, first heartache, first driving, etc. This makes for great tension!

MBA&M: When the lights go out, what do you dream about? The rest of us probably dream so different than you do,we dream of fairy tales and stuff, what about you?

I’m not sure our dreams are much different from each other. I do know I have a very active imagination, often a dark one. My day dreams would probably scare most people. 🙂

MBA&M: Who was you favorite character to write about and why?

I love writing about Llona, especially in this book. I have a huge fascination with man’s “inner beast” and how one learns to overcome these personal demons. In fact, one of my  favorite stories is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

MBA&M: If “Fractured Soul” was to become a major motion picture or TV series, who what actore you have portray the characters?Fractured Soul

Llona would be played by Amanda Seyfried and Christian would be Zac Efron. Liam would be played by Ian Somerhalder.

MBA&M: If you could step into a book, what book, whether, one of your or someone else’s?

I would love to live in Harry Potter’s world. We would be besties of course, hanging out with Ron and Hermoine. And my wand would be uber cool and I’d know all sorts of magic.

MBA&M: As a child who was your favorite author, and what stories did you enjoy reading?

I loved reading Christopher Pike and the Encyclopedia Brown books.

MBA&M: What is next for you?

In addition to the release of Fractured Soul, I also have my humorous memoir titled CONFESSIONS OF A CEREAL MOTHER coming out in March. I also just completed a darker YA novel titled UNLEASHED. It’s a twist on the Jekyll and Hyde story. 🙂 And finally I’m currently writing book three, FRACTURED TRUTH.

MBA&M: How many books will be in “FRACTURED LIGHT” series?

Fractured SoulExcerpt

As soon as the Vyken appeared in the doorway, I tossed a ball hard. He dodged it by jumping up along the side of the wall, his nails and bare toes somehow finding a hold in the thin cracks of the wall. I threw another one, but he was already moving, scrambling alongside the stones like a spider. He was grinning.

I rolled away from the wall until I was in the middle of the room. I lost sight of him for just a fraction of a second, but that was enough. The Vyken was gone, or, I should say, hiding. He was still here. I could feel him. I looked up toward the rafters of the tower roof. It was pitch black.
At the bottom of the tower, I heard Christian begin to ascend the stairs. “I’m coming, Llona!” he yelled.

Still staring up, I created Light again in the palm of my hand and willed it to rise. The closer it got to the rafters the faster my heart beat. Sweat rolled down the small of my back.

Light began to fill dark spaces, exposing that which wished to remain hidden. My Vyken was there, but he wasn’t alone. Another sat crouched on a beam. Where his left eye should’ve been there was an empty hole.

I screamed when my Vyken dropped from the ceiling, extinguishing the light. He fell onto my stomach, pushing my shoulders into the floor. I tried to create Light, but it was as if he knew what I was going to do because his hands slipped up and pinned my wrists together. He bent forward and inhaled my skin. The warmth of his breath steamed my ear when he said, “I’m going to eat every part of you.”

Fractured SoulAbout Fractured Soul (sequel to Fractured Light)

Llona will do whatever it takes to protect her new found friends and home, but the dark plot threatening Lucent Academy, a school that’s supposed to be a safe place for Auras, may be too powerful for even Llona to defeat. This fast-paced tale of love, loyalty, and overcoming the darkness will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page!

What others are saying:

“I love these books! A kick-butt heroine and a hottie love interest, with a refreshingly original concept. Be prepared—once you start, these are hard to put down.”

Paula Cotton, book reviewer at ReadingLark.blogspot.com

“Fractured Soul is a brilliant sequel, exceeding even the remarkable first book in the series. It will haunt your every waking moment between the times you’re reading it, and it will stay with you long after you’ve finished. It’s an amazingly well written and engrossing story that I highly recommend—after you’ve read the first one, of course.”

Cheryl Brooks PhotoScenes that make me tingle

From the time I started reading until I began writing books of my own, certain scenes have sent a rush of tingles racing over my skin. I can’t explain why they affect me that way. I only know that they do—and they do it every time I read them.

RogueOne such scene is this excerpt from Rogue, book 3 of the Cat Star Chronicles series. Music teacher Kyra Aramis has been hired by a Darconian queen to teach her daughter to play the piano. Since the natives are reptiles, Kyra doesn’t expect to find love on that desert world, but when the queen assigns Tycharian Vladatonsk, a handsome Zetithian slave, to be Kyra’s personal attendant, love blossoms.

In this scene, Kyra and Tychar are already lovers, and the antique Steinway the queen has provided for Kyra’s use has finally reached out to her—on a rather mystical level…

That night, I awoke from a dream with something calling out to me, beckoning me to come to it. Unable to resist, I rose from my bed, leaving Tychar sleeping in the moonlight. The night air was chilly, and I slipped into a robe as I stole silently into the music room.

The three Darconian moons were conjoined—surely a good omen—and shone down on the planet below with a brightness that cast shadows as though daylight had come early. The piano sat silently on the dais, but I could feel the pull and knew that this was what had been calling to me. The ancient instrument was ready at last; to tell me its story and to share its secrets.

Sitting down on the bench, I began to play one of the Zetithian love songs at first, but then the melody changed, seemingly of its own accord, to become something different, yet similar, as though inspired by the original song. I’d never played like that before, and the music seemed to come through my hands straight from my heart. It was my love song to Tychar: how I felt when I was in his arms, how I knew he was my one, true love—forever and always.

A fleeting thought told me that I should be recording this so I wouldn’t forget it, but I knew in my heart that it would be indelibly placed in my memory. No, I wouldn’t forget it, and the melody would grow with each day I spent with him, for this was his song: the expression of my feelings for him. I had never been inspired before, but I certainly was now.

Something moved within the shadows, taking the shape of the one I was playing for; the one I loved. Moving nearer, he placed his hands on my shoulders, and their warm strength inspired me even further. The melody changed again, becoming two songs, somehow blended into one. Was this how the great composers had worked their magic? Had they had such a love to inspire them, to carry them far beyond their usual talents? How else could one explain why the occasional mediocre composer could suddenly bring forth a piece of music that survived the ages?

I played on, letting his love be my guide, and when the song reached its conclusion at last, I was reluctant to break the spell and waited silently for him to speak.

“That was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard,” he said gently. “It reminds me of you.”

“No,” I whispered. “It is my love for you, nothing more.”

His grasp on my shoulders tightened. “Do you truly love me that much?”

“I do,” I replied. Taking his hand from my shoulder, I kissed it softly. “Can you doubt it?”

“No,” he said in a somber tone. “My vision was a true one. You are here, we are lovers, and my life will never be the same.”

“Or mine.”

WildcatAnd now for a sneak peek at the latest installment in the Cat Star Chronicles, Wildcat!

Horse breeder Sara Shield first met her new Zetithian neighbor, Jerden Morokovitz, when he came cantering up on her missing stallion—no bridle, no saddle, no clothes. He promises to return the horse to Sara’s farm, but another neighbor, Nate Wolmack, has come to call…

A chill ran down Sara’s spine as a booted footstep behind her heralded more bad news, and she suppressed a groan.

“I know the feeling,” Nate said. “You’re a hard woman to get close to, Sara.”

Mentally counting to three before she turned to face him, Sara did her best to maintain a neutral expression. Nate always rubbed her the wrong way, and she didn’t appreciate him sneaking up behind her. At least she wasn’t alone.

Reutal was well aware that Sara didn’t particularly care for Nate and seldom missed the opportunity to make a quip at his expense. This time, Nate had left himself wide open. “Must be your aura keeping her away, Nate. But then, I’ve noticed that flies don’t like you, either.”

Nate shot a disdainful glance at the Norludian before directing his gaze at Sara. “You need to teach your hired help to watch his mouth.”

It was quick, but Sara saw Reutal’s tongue dart out in the silent, Norludian version of  f*** you.

Sara faked a cough, covering her smile with her hand. “Haven’t met anyone yet who could control a Norludian’s mouth. I gave up a long time ago.” It wasn’t true, of course, but Nate didn’t have to know that. She’d made it very clear at the outset that while Reutal could talk all he liked, she was the boss, and therefore off-limits in terms of romantic liaisons.

“Any luck finding your stallion?” Nate asked. “Damn shame him running off like that.”

Sara wasn’t fooled. She knew Nate was fishing for her to use his stud, Kraken, though why she would want to breed her mares to an unapproved stallion when Danuban was around defied explanation.

“Oh, haven’t you heard?” she said blithely. “He wound up on Jerden Morokovitz’s place. He’ll be bringing him over soon.” Or so she hoped.

Nate’s steely blue eyes narrowed with suspicion. “Is that so?”

Sara nodded. “Yes, and you should see that man ride,” she said, not bothering to hide her admiration. “He doesn’t even need a bridle.”

Nate’s brow rose, albeit very slightly. “Never knew Zetithians were any good with horses. Best I can tell, all they do is steal women from other men.”

Sara was surprised at just how much this comment galled her. “Hadn’t noticed that.” Her shrug was carefully indifferent. “But then, I don’t get out much.”

“Had one stolen from you, Nate?” Reutal’s tone was all innocence, but his bulbous eyes were aglow with mischief.

Sara doubted it. Tall, blond, and ruggedly handsome, Nate was one of the region’s more eligible bachelors. What Sara couldn’t understand was why he kept dogging her—if this was romance, she wanted no part of it. His attentions were too… calculated, and like most men, he made her feel uneasy. Since she’d never been pursued for herself alone, she could only conclude that he wanted something from her.

Other than a trace of irritation marring his chiseled features, Nate gave no indication that he’d even heard Reutal, addressing Sara instead. “I’ve noticed that about you, Sara. Nimbaza isn’t exactly the playground of the galaxy, but there are some nice restaurants and clubs. Places a man can take a woman that are a little more”—his eyes swept the interior of the barn, ending with a sidelong glance at Reutal—“private.”

Oh, God. Is he asking me for a date? “I’m sure there are, but I don’t have the time for it. Too much work to do.”

He took a step closer. “You know what they say about all work and no play, don’t you?”

Though a tremor of fear ran up her spine, Sara lifted her chin slightly. “I don’t put much stock in that crap.”

Nate’s retort was cut off by the sound of approaching hoofbeats.

Sara glanced up as Jerden entered the barn astride Danuban, the pair of them seeming more like a centaur than two separate beings. The black leopard stalked alongside them like a warlock’s familiar. As they came to a halt a few paces away, tingles raced over Sara’s skin and a hush fell over the barn. Even the birds nesting in the rafters ceased their incessant chirping.

Jerden’s eyes met hers with an impact Sara could almost feel.

“I brought your horse back.”

Blud and Magick

“Uncle Ed, I . . . I did that to them,” she stammered.

Edwin cocked an eyebrow. “Did what?”

She pointed to the two bodies, impaled by ice.

“You did?” His eyes became wide with concern.

Darla nodded, biting her lip. “Uncle Ed . . . what am I?”

Darla Summer was born from the ashes of the dead Shadow Lord, Remmus Alrad. This left the Seven Sages to deliberate what was to be done with her. Darius, the Sage who slew the Shadow Lord, wants her dead. Another Sage, Edwin, believes she deserves a chance to live. Edwin is granted permission to raise her in the human world under the condition that her true identity not be revealed until an appointed time.

Fourteen years later, Darla has no idea of her magical beginnings or her dark heritage. But when she meets Ash and Cirrus—teenage brothers who are not so human themselves—her world is turned upside down. An organization known as the Shadow Risers is out to collect her, claiming that she is the vessel of their Master, and Darla is forced to fight back. Lorys-pic-for-Bronze-color-2-300x187ABOUT LORY KAUFMAN

“I write Post-Dystopian fiction. After society’s collapse, which is imagined in so many great dystopian stories, humans will either fade into history, with the dinosaurs, or, if it learns the right lessons, society will go on to construct a civilization to last tens of thousands of years. History Camp stories are the exciting adventures of young people doing the latter.” -Lory Kaufman

On the artistic side of Lory’s career, he’s written, acted and directed children’s theatre and musical theatre. He enjoys art, especially sculpture. He loves science fiction and historical fiction and he has been deeply involved in the green movement all across North America. All this shows through when you read his work. Lory has three grown children and works and lives in Kingston, Canada.

It’s the 24th century and humans, with the help of artificial intelligences, (A.I.s) have finally created the perfect society. To make equally perfect citizens for this world, the elders have created History Camps, full-sized recreations of cities from Earth’s distant pasts. Here teens live the way their ancestors did, doing the same dirty jobs and experiences the same degradations. History Camps teach youths not to repeat the mistakes that almost caused the planet to die. But not everything goes to plan.Like in all groups of youth, there are those who rebel, “hard cases” who just don’t get it. In this first installment of a trilogy, three spoiled teens from the year 2347 are kidnapped back in time to 1347 Verona, Italy. There they are abandoned and left with only two choices: adapt to the harsh medieval ways, or die. Hansum, almost 17, is good looking, athletic and, as his A.I. teacher says, he can charm the fuzz off a peach. Shamira is 15. She has green eyes, auburn hair, and a Caucasian complexion. That’s something people don’t see that much of in the 24th century. She’s sassy, independent and has an artistic genius for drawing. Lincoln, 14, is the smart-aleck. But you don’t have to scratch too far beneath the surface to find his insecurities. There are two types of artificial intelligences (A.I.s) in the 24th-century. The first are authorized by society and very conservative. Then there are ‘genies’. Made by black-market hackers, or blackers, these rascals are the bi-polar opposite of their unadventurous cousins. A genie’s aim in life is to help rebellious youth make mischief. Pan, is a very mischievous genie. A curious mix of past and future, he’s an eccentric, all-knowing, holographic artificial intelligence in the cartoon shape of the vaunted Greek god. Pan’s antics and insights get the kids both into and out of trouble. Our three teen protagonists meet at a History Camp where everything and everybody must act like it is 14th-century Verona, Italy. Society’s plan is to put trouble-making kids into situations where they are “scared straight”. But Hansum knows better. He’s aware that behind the scenes there are armies of humans and A.I.’s making sure they are safe. Using Pan, the teens devise a plan to drive the History Camp enactors crazy, and they succeed. But what they’re not prepared for is that a History Camp elder from the 31st century, (where time-travel is possible) kidnaps them back to the real medieval Verona. Here they are indentured to an alcoholic lens maker. Now, unquestionably, the dangers are real. All of this is hardly the ideal environment to fall in love – but, for Hansum, that’s exactly what happens. Guilietta is the beautiful daughter of the master the teens are working for. She becomes the star-crossed and time-crossed lover of our story’s Romeo – Hansum. In fact, the novel is peppered with lots of fun allusions to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In an attempt to survive the teenage trio, with Pan’s help, risks introducing technology from the future. It could save them – or it could change history.

What could go wrong in the 14th-century for three time-traveling teens? How about – EVERYTHING!

Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln, three teens from the 24th century, are trapped in 14th-century Verona, Italy. They’ve survived many deadly experiences by keeping their wits about them and by introducing futuristic technology into the past. Principal among these inventions is the telescope, which brought them to the attention of the rich and powerful.

But standing out can get you into unexpected and dangerous situations. The nobles of Verona now believe Hansum is a savant, a genius inventor, especially after he brings them plans for advanced cannons and black powder. Being the center of attention is great, but the potential for trouble is now exponentially greater because people are watching Hansum’s every move.

Meanwhile, artistic genius Shamira has fallen for a Florentine artist with bloody and disastrous consequences. Lincoln, considered an incompetent back home in the 24th-century, has blossomed – at least until he’s shot in the head with an arrow. And Hansum, after secretly marrying his new master’s beautiful daughter, Guilietta, is offered the hand in marriage of lady Beatrice, daughter of the ruler of Verona. To refuse could mean calamity for all the teens.

Amazingly, none of this is their biggest challenge. Because a rash illness is spreading across Verona – and it is threatening to consume everyone.

Do they have a future in this past?

ABOUT THE LOVED AND THE LOSTThe loved and the lost

They are three 24th-century time travelers desperate to return to 14th-century Verona and reclaim their medieval family’s shattered lives. It is a mission fraught with danger and the risk of unexpected consequences for themselves and their worlds. For all three, it is a matter of the heart. For one, though, it is truly the only thing that matters, as the fate of his eternal love and the life of their unborn child is the prize to be won – or lost forever.

In this, the final book of The Verona Trilogy, Hansum, Shamira and Lincoln go on the boldest adventure of their lives. They will face hardship, tragedy, and threats from sources they couldn’t have imagined – all in an effort to wrestle a future from the steely grip of an unforgiving past.

THE LENS AND THE LOOKER by Lory Kaufman is an interesting Post-Dystopian fiction set in the 24th century. Book 1 of the “Verona Series (History Camp: the Verona Trilogy)”. What an interesting concept on the 24th century and its future. Anyone who enjoys  young adult, time travel, history, drama, and a bit of romance will enjoy “The Lens and the Looker”. What a thought provoking story filled with action, adventure, and drama. Although, some of the language is questionable for this time frame and I don’t know if appropriate for young adults, however, it was an interesting read. If you enjoy fantasy, this is definite a fantasy with time travel and history. I look forward to reading the other two in this trilogy to see what happens. Received for an honest review from the author/publicist.

CJ: Hmm… I never know exactly what people want to know. I’m a happily married mother of two battling multiple autoimmune diseases and several severe bacterial infections.

I had to leave my last job a few years ago because of my health and began writing to save my sanity. I never expected people would want to read my take on sexy vampires—and am continually surprised and humbled by the response the books are receiving.

MBA&M: What is the allure of “vampires” to readers?

CJ: That’s a tricky one! I think for every reader it’s unique. Some may like the deadly, mysterious aspects or the angst-riddled characters Anne Rice produced decades ago, while others may be drawn to the more modern dream-lover in today’s paranormal romance books. I tend to enjoy books that are a mixture of the two—a monster with a mysterious sexual allure.

MBA&M: How many books are in the “V V Inn” series and what order should they be read in, if any?

CJ: There are three books right now, and two free reads containing half of the first two books.

My idea was simple: Give half the book away to make sure the reader truly liked the story and style before buying it. I’d rather do that than risk annoying buyers with the overt eroticism inherent in the first book, and the unique story-telling style in the second one (which is very different than the first book).

Titles in the V V Inn series:

Free Short Story and half of Book One: Just One Taste

Book One: Vampire Vacation (Oct 2010)

Free Read containing half of Book Two: Another Sip

Book Two: The Hunt (June 2011)

Book Three: Big Game (April 2012)

Book Four: The Seduction of Death (due out December 2012)

MBA&M: Who is your favorite character in the “V V Inn” series?

Oooo… so hard to choose… I really love Vivian and Rafe, but some of the secondary characters have grown on me, too. It’s hard not to love a werewolf with a self-deprecating sense of humor who oozes sensuality. Or an ex-military vampire recently turned during a tour in Afghanistan. (It helps that the last character is based on one of my nephews. No, he is not a vampire) 😉

MBA&M: Where did the idea come from for the “V V Inn” series, and how did you decide who would be the hero/heroine and who would be the villain(s)?

CJ: I’d been reading the genre for a very long time. Whether it was called fantasy, horror, romance, or the newest moniker urban fantasy—I read it. I loved the strong heroines and noticed there was a distinct trend – they were the ones who invariably became romantically involved with the powerful, supernatural hero in the story.

I decided if I ever wrote a book it would be with a supernatural female lead and she would be stronger than her mate. The story started to coalesce in my mind little by little, but was still a disjointed dream most of the time.

After a book club meeting one night, a friend asked about my idea—boy, did she got an earful! I’d had my opening line in my head for a while and the overall storyline spilled out as we chatted in my driveway. Turns out she was also a professional editor and loved my concept. She encouraged me to try my hand at writing and helped guide me on the basics.

I knew nothing about plotting a book and just wrote. This friend helped me understand I needed to know where the story was going so I could write toward a goal. Within a few weeks I had my villain mapped out, his motivation, and a meaty story to keep readers involved.

When asked, I tell people the book is not mystery, because that angle of the story is more of a subplot. Nor is it a romance, despite the frequent and detailed sex scenes. If pressed, I try to explain it’s a mix of genres and sits in the fantasy section.

MBA&M:  What is your next project(s)?

CJ: The third full-length novel in the series, Big Game, will release the end of April. After that I’m going to do some shorter novellas for the readers who want to know Jonathan’s story. I plan on completing at least two novellas this year while working on book four, The Seduction of Death, which is slotted to release in December 2012.

I’ve also got a middle-grade book I’m working on for my children under another pen name.

MBA&M: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

CJ: I’m fortunate that one of my dream destinations will happen this summer. My books are based in Alaska and I’m going there on a vampire themed cruise called Vamps at Sea as a guest speaker. It will be so cool to finally see the land I’m writing about in the series.

Aside from my immediate trip, I’d love to travel Asia extensively. I’ve always been fascinated with the rich culture and history of the people. Truth be told, if I had the money, I’d love to visit every continent and see many countries.

MBA&M: What is some of your comfort foods?

CJ: I was diagnosed with Celiac’s a few years ago, so a lot of my favorite comfort foods had to change. I’ve found some decent pasta, which saved me in some regard. I can’t resist a spicy meat sauce at least one night a week!

Side dish favorites would have to include mashed potatoes. And with the addition of Bob Evan’s pre-made mashed potatoes in the grocery store, we have them more often now than is good for my waistline.

MBA&M: What are some of your writing rituals?

CJ: Depends on the day of the week and how I’m feeling. Some days I have memory issues due to the bacterial infections I’m fighting and need to re-read a few recent chapters and my outline before I can begin writing. I like a relatively quiet work place and have been known to chase my husband back down to his office when he’s on a call (He has a booming voice on the phone and we both work from home). Occasionally I’ll put on music or get up and exercise when I feel like I need a rejuvenating push of energy.

Other days the writing flows smoothly and I have a clear grasp on what to write. It’s hit or miss; I take it as it comes.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where the “V V Inn” series is available?

 Meet Vivian.

She’s a 580-year-old vampire who exudes sex, has a talent for drama, and is passionate about two things: her human husband, Rafe, and their resort for the undead. Her ability to project physical illusions has created the perfect vacation spot — a dark, isolated Alaskan hideaway where visitors can have their wildest fantasies come true.

Vivian knows the best performance requires perfect timing, but the powerful vamp is put to the test when she discovers a corpse in a locked guestroom minutes before the next arrivals. Always cool-headed, Rafe hides the body, convinced he and Vivian can find the culprit without disturbing their guests.

Juggling the increasingly outrageous demands of their customers while tracking a killer isn’t easy. Will their poking and prodding give them the answers they need, or will it uncover secrets Vivian would kill to protect?
