Friendships are defined as a bond between two people, a building of a strong connection and like for one another. Usually excluding romantic or sexual feelings. Now what occurs when the typical doesn’t happen and friendship turns to love?
Trey Adams spends his days working with music and pining over his longtime best friend, Shayla Donovan. The only thing holding him back is his past, a past where love only hurts and leaves you. To love Shayla the way he desires may be a long, arduous road.
Shayla Donovan has lived thirteen years of her life with a secret she is ready to confess. Pushing her fear aside may be the only way she can move forward in helping Trey learn the meaning of true love.
On their journey to finding love, these two souls will fight battles bigger than they could ever imagine.
*This novel contains mature subject matter, such as explicit sexual situations and coarse language, please refrain from reading if these things offend you. This story is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. Hot, sensitive, alpha male, with an HEA.

Tonight proved our love is stronger than anything—the feelings and emotions all real.

The only light in the room is the burning fireplace, crackling across the way from the bed. I watch the orange and yellow flames mesh, regaining my bearings. Shay’s warmth on top of my chest is welcoming, helping me relax. I notice she’s been silent for a few minutes, and when I look down I’m met by her sleeping form.

Everything that has happened in the past twenty-four hours wore my girl out. But I’m more than happy just sitting here listening to her light breathing as she sleeps. She looks beautiful, like nothing in this world could disturb her. I want this moment to last forever. I want my time with her to last far past the time we are given here on earth. I don’t know if I believe in eternity, but she sure makes me hopeful that there will be one. She makes me feel like the day I was born only half of me entered the world while the other half of me waited with her and the day we met was the day I became complete again.

Lightly, I move the backside of my fingers down her cheek, and when my thumb makes it to her lips I graze the round edges. Remembering the way she kissed me back when I took away her virginity. Looking at her now, I feel a sense of completion. I’m not only falling, but in essence, also surrendering my heart, soul, and body for the chance to love someone.

This is the moment that changes a boy into a man. The moment one falls in love. Not only am I responsible for loving this woman, but I’m also now in charge of protecting her heart and honoring any promise I give her from here on out.

For women, virginity is the one thing that they give to someone that they’ve fallen in love with. Well, most women. The one thing they give away as a symbol of their love and commitment to their partner. But what virginity is to women, is what a heart is to a man. We save that shit with us until the right woman comes along to claim it. That’s when we then give it away, without a second thought or regret. Shayla took my heart, and I will never be able to get it back.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Her voice is soft and laced in a sleepy rasp.

“You look beautiful when you sleep.”

She searches my eyes, seeing if I’m lying or hiding anything from her. Letting her gaze falter for a second she moves on, accepting my answer. She stretches before placing her head back on her spot above my heart.

A Visit with Lauren Layne……and #giveaway

Today we are honored to welcome author Lauren Layne to Please join us in welcoming Lauren!

Layne_Cuff Me_MM[1]

MBA: What do you hope readers will gain from reading this story/series?

Lauren Layne: It may be simplistic, but my goal when I write any book is to give my readers ALL THE FEELS. Either the LOL moment, or my personal favorite: the tummy-flip moment!

MBA: What is the best advice have you given or gotten?

LL: To not care what other people thing. Too often I think people assume that advice is best left for adolescent teens who are trying to “find themselves,” but it’s equally true in adulthood. Resting any portion of your self-worth on someone else’s opinion, whether it be a family member, friend, reader, or colleague, and they’ll always maintain some sense of control over your happiness. DO NOT WANT!

MBA: Where there any surprises for you while writing this story?

LL:Nah. I’m an outliner, I rarely get surprised by my stories 😉 I’m the boss!

MBA: If you had to live on Mars for a year, what 5 things would you take with you?

LL:My laptop

My charger (there better be a power source up there!)

My Kindle

My iPhone (to take pictures!)

All The Wine

MBA: You are in a room with 4 other people, dead or alive, who are they and why them?

LL: JK Rowling | one word: obsessed

Henry Cavill | I want to see if he’s as beautiful up close, no shame.

Socrates | I’m a philosophy buff. So many questions.

Ellen Degeneres | She just makes me smile. Good people, right there.

MBA: What is the hardest thing about writing?

LL:The actual writing. Putting new words on a page day after day is harder than people think!

MBA: What is the easiest thing about writing?

LL:That moment after you’ve come up with the seed of a new story and you get to brainstorm all the directions it could take. The stage between conception and typing Chapter One is my favorite, and the easiest stage of the writing process.

MBA: What is your all time favorite book, from childhood or adulthood?

LL:Oh gosh. I think I have to go with Harry Potter. If you’ll allow it, I’d love to count the whole series as one, but if you make me choose just ONE HP book, I’d go with the first. I’ve read it probably 50 times.

*yes we’ll take the whole series as one, some series just can’t be taken as separate books you MUST read the whole series to truly understand them*

MBA: What does the future hold for you?

LL: Ha, big question?! I’ll limit it to my writing career so I don’t go on forever ☺ 2016 is a big year for me, book-wise. I have seven books out, plus a novella, so I’ve been busy! Next up after CUFF ME, is Good Girl, in May, about a country singer, then it’s on to Wedding Belles series in the summer, back-to-back releases about Manhattan Wedding Planners, and last, but never ever least, it’s Someone Like You, the third in my Oxford trilogy.

Thank you Lauren for taking the time to answer our questions! And such great answers!

A visit with Katie Lane, A Billionaire After Dark!*Giveaway*

Today we are thrilled to welcome author Katie Lane to! Katie Lane is the author of several great romances, including the just released A BILLIONAIRE AFTER DARK. Please join us in welcoming Katie and don’t forget to enter the giveaway!
A Billionaire After Dark (The Overnight Billionaires)

MBA: What makes you most happy while writing?

Katie Lane: The characters.  I love quirky heroines, imperfect heroes, zany neighbors, and crazy townsfolk.  It’s such fun to mix them all together and see what happens.  If people could listen in when I’m writing, they would think I was crazy.  I laugh out loud at things my characters say.  And talk to them like they are sitting right next to me.  “Oh, noooo!  You are not going to do that.  That’s just crazy.  Okay, you’re going to do that.  Fine, do it!  But don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

MBA: What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten or given about writing?

Katie Lane: When I was first writing, I read this book (Sorry, but the title escapes me at the moment.) that pretty much told you what to do if you DID NOT want to get published.  The first thing on the list was “Don’t Finish your Book.”  It just made so much sense to me.  If you don’t finish a book, there’s no way it can be published.  So I finish books.  They might not ever get published, but they have a chance.

MBA: While writing this book did you have a moment of OMG that’s perfect?

Katie Lane: I’m really hard on myself so I rarely say the word “perfect.”  But there were a few times while writing this that I smiled with satisfaction.  The scene where Nash and Eden are standing in the street and find out all these truths about each other and then they almost have sex and are caught by her . . . well, shoot, I can’t finish without spoiling the scene.  Anyway, that scene turned out sexy, funny, and heartwarming—my favorite combination for a scene.

MBA: Were you surprised by anything in this book?

Katie Lane: I’m always surprised by a book.  I can write a detailed outline, but I never follow it.  The characters go where the characters want to go.  And Nash and Eden were these two loose canons who got very stubborn and nasty when I tried to force them into certain situations that they didn’t like.  So this book was hard to write in that respect, but fun to write as far as surprises go.

MBA: What 5 things would you take with you if you had to live on Mars for a year?

Katie Lane: Matt Damon because he pretty much knows how to survive there and because . . . well, he’s hot.  A laptop with a solar panel battery or whatever type of battery works on Mars.  My softie pillow because I never go any place without it.  Lots and Lots of Skinny Pop Popcorn.  And my dog Roo.  Okay, if I’m taking Roo, I need to skip the Skinny Pop and take my husband, but we’ll still need Matt because my husband thinks he knows how to live off the land, but he really doesn’t.

MBA: What do you hope readers will gain from reading your story?

Katie Lane: I hope my readers gain the same things I want to gain when I read a romance novel:  Hours of entertainment and a sigh of contentment when the hero and heroine live happily-ever-after.

Thank you so much for hosting me today, Book Addictions & More!  It’s always a pleasure. :o)

Welfonder_To Desire a Highlander_MM[1][1]About TO DESIRE A HIGHLANDER
Proud, passionate Lady Gillian MacGuire is known as the Spitfire of the Isles. She can take care of herself and hasn’t yet met a man who could impress her . . . especially not Donell MacDonnell, the man she was promised to five years ago. She’s been dreading his return, but when her intended comes back to claim her, she’s stunned at how different he seems. The man she swore she would spurn forever now invades her thoughts, her dreams, and her heart.AN UNEXPECTED DESIRE
When Roag agrees to assume the identity of the recently deceased MacDonnell chieftain, no one warns him that the man was betrothed. As a member of the King’s Fenris Guard, he is oath-bound to embark on whatever mission the crown gives him. Of course, he was expecting a battle-not a bride. Yet after sharing one kiss with Lady Gillian, the powerful Highlander becomes the one seduced and captivated. Now giving in to temptation could ruin them both.
Sue-Ellen_Welfonder[1][1]About the Author

SueEllen Welfonder is a Scotophile whose burning wish to make frequent trips to the land of her dreams led her to a twenty-year career with the airlines.

Now a full-time writer, she’s quick to admit that she much prefers wielding a pen to pushing tea and coffee. She makes annual visits to Scotland, insisting they are a necessity, as each trip gives her inspiration for new books.

Proud of her own Hebridean ancestry, she belongs to two clan societies: the MacFie Clan Society and the Clan MacAlpine Society. In addition to Scotland, her greatest passions are medieval history, the paranormal, and dogs. She never watches television, loves haggis, and writes at a 450-year-old desk that once stood in a Bavarian castle.

SueEllen is married and currently resides with her husband and Jack Russell terrier in Florida.

Q&A Time

Q:  How many books will be in this new series?

SEW:  Once Upon a Highland Christmas (novella), To Love a

Highlander, and To Desire a Highlander.

Q:  How do you spend your spare time?

SEW:  I love animals and nature, and enjoy getting out in the

natural world as often as possible.  Doing so clears my mind and

relieves stress.  So I take daily walks, cycle often, and make sure

every day includes ‘nature breaks.’  I’m an Audubon Society

volunteer and really love ‘giving back’ to nature by helping the

local shorebirds.  A lot of my time this spring and summer was

devoted to monitoring and helping to safeguard a colony of

protected seabirds through their mating, nesting, and hatching

season. I enjoy reading and am a total yoga enthusiast, practicing

daily.  I also spend plenty of quality time with my ex-feral cat,

Q:  How does the use of Scottish mythology, Folklore and legends

come to fruition in your tales?

SEW:  Scotland, like all Celtic lands, is rich in legend, lore, and

myth.  The medieval period, in particular, was a time when folk

really did believe in magical stones, sacred wells, mythical beasts,

the evil eye, miracle cures, ghosts, and all manner of other

fantastical things.  Toss in the Norse influence, and you have a

whole new layer of wondrous elements.  Yes, there was

Christianity, but scratch the surface, and the trust in the old ways

was there, rampant and alive.

To this day, it is hard to find a stone in Scotland that doesn’t have a

history – some amazing tale attached to it.  For a writer already in

love with the land and people, this cultural heritage is a great well-

spring of story ideas.  Along with the atmospheric settings I give

my books, I love weaving mystical threads into each story.  I see

them (along with the setting) as the ‘stage and foundation’ of my

books.  Take that away, leaving only dialogue and ‘action,’ the

words are only ink on the page, lacking heart, soul, and the

richness and depth I believe should go into a Scottish medieval

So this is a very important part of my writing.  To leave it out

would be (to me) to ignore a very colorful and fascinating part of

Scotland’s past.

Q:  Who was the author who was most influential in your writing

SEW:  Becky Lee Weyrich, the Time Travel Queen of the 80s.

She was a personal friend, and back in my flying days, I’d send her

long letters detailing my travel adventures in far-flung corners of

the globe.  She would tell me that reading my letters made her feel

as if she’d been along with me during my trips.  Eventually she

also told me she felt I should be writing books.  I wasn’t interested

at all – flying was my dream job and I loved being a stewardess.

But Becky kept after me and I finally caved and wrote a book.  I

did so, more or less, to get Becky to stop bugging me.  When Devil

in a Kilt sold, I was astonished.  And so I sort of slid into a career I

never really sought.

Q)  What genre do you read for pleasure?

SEW:  Lots, but to choose a fiction fave: cozy mysteries.

Let’s play a Game…

Fruit? Apple, grapes or orange

SEW:  Apple  (eat at least one daily)

Reading? Fiction or non-fiction

SEW:  Non-fiction (if I have to choose, I LOVE research books)

Movie? Braveheart or Highlander

SEW:  Braveheart (though the inaccuracies drive me nuts)

Snacks? Popcorn  or chips

SEW:  Chips  (I am a potato zealot)

Chocolate?  Light or dark

SEW:  Light (milk chocolate)

Where do you see yourself in 10years?

SEW:   Hopefully in a place of less stress and worry – the last few

years have been difficult.  I would love to do more volunteer work

– for needy animals and nature/the environment.

Anything you’d like our readers to know about this book that might

surprise them?

SEW:  This book is a milestone book for me on many levels.  A

personal one is that it is the first book I have completed without

my beloved Jack Russell terrier, Em, sharing my desk chair.  He

was my constant companion throughout the writing of all my

books, but I lost him during the writing of this one.  He was my

muse – he’d either curl on my lap, or sprawl across the chair seat

behind me, pushing at me with his little legs until I’d be perched

on less than an inch of the chair.  I would keep on writing, not

having the heart to disturb him as he snored away behind me.  I am

still grieving his loss.

Thank you Sue-Ellen for being our guest today. For those who know me, (WendyK), they know that I simply adore Scottish romances (historical or contemporary), but what you might not know is that I’ve read Sue-Ellen since that first book, DEVIL IN A KILT. The world of publishing is changing and has changed a lot from Sue-Ellen’s first book, but I can always count on Sue-Ellen to give me many hours of joy, time away from the reality of life, characters I’ll adore and stories I’ll fall in love with. If you are new to Sue-Ellen, I suggest you be prepared once you find her books you’ll want them all! If you are an old friend who like me has read them all, then sit back and enjoy. Either way there’s a treat to be had.
Thank you again Sue-Ellen for being our guest today! We are honored to have you here and to count you among our Friends.

Tasty Book Tours: TURN UP THE HEAT by Serena Bell

Tasty Book Tours

Turn up the Heat
Second Chances # 1
By: Serena Bell
Releasing July 14, 2015

For readers of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery, USA Today bestselling author Serena Bell teases all five senses in this poignant, tantalizing novel of fantasies long hidden . . . and finally indulged.

Aspiring chef Lily McKee noticed Kincaid Graves the first time he walked into the dingy diner where she waits tables. With his ice-blue eyes and primal tattoos, his presence puts Lily on edge—and reminds her of all the unfulfilled longings she isn’t pursuing while she’s stuck in this dead-end job. Without a doubt, the man is dangerous to her long-term plans of leaving town and hiring on at a real kitchen—and yet, she hungers for him, if even for just a taste.

Kincaid didn’t come back to his coastal Oregon hometown looking for a good time or a good meal. The ex-con has a score to settle, old wrongs to set right. But Lily, equal parts innocence and insight, brings out an impulsive side of him he thought he’d left behind in the past. And it only takes one intense moment of weakness between them to make him consider the possibility of an entirely new future—and the promise of passion beyond either of their wildest dreams.

Excerpt 1
“Tonight’s special is turkey dinner,” Lily told her table.
The turkey dinner was safe enough: sliced deli turkey, a small scoop of powdered mashed potatoes, canned cranberries, and gravy made from cream of chicken soup, all served on white bread. Nothing much to go wrong there, if nothing to celebrate, either.
If the diner had been hers, turkey dinner would have been fresh-roasted turkey, homemade gravy, a warm, freshly buttered biscuit, apple-and-bacon stuffing, local cranberry preserves, and a heap of hot, creamy garlic mashed potatoes. Her mouth watered at the thought. Her hands felt itchy with her desire to overhaul Markos’s dad’s Thanksgiving feast. And pretty much everything else about the diner, too—it was a shame that a diner in a seaside town hadn’t nodded at a beach theme, or at least gone after a sunshiny feel. Markos’s diner was cozy at night, but cavelike and stifling when the sun was up.
But the diner wasn’t hers, and she had to keep her eyes on the prize. If she kept saving at her current rate, she’d have enough money to move back to Chicago, where most of her culinary school friends now lived. She’d get a job in a real restaurant, actually cooking. And eventually, someday, she’d have the know-how and the name recognition to start her own place. It would happen, despite her mistakes.
“And the meatloaf?”
“If you liked the meatloaf, you’ll love our spaghetti and meatballs tonight.” There were only so many ways to warn people away from a meal without turning them off a restaurant completely, and Lily was mastering all of them.
“I want that,” said the freckled, redheaded children simultaneously.
“Two turkey dinners and two spaghetti and meatballs,” the mom said, smiling at Lily.
“Easy enough! Thanks, guys!”
Lily turned toward the counter, a wood and stone monstrosity built to look like a hunting lodge’s fireplace, just in time to see the diner’s front door open. She had only a general impression of the figure pushing through it, but that was enough.
Him. Her mystery man.
Her body woke up. Pulse, breath, that surge of adrenaline in her veins. Maybe, if she were willing to admit it, other body parts were taking notice, too.
A strange push-pull. Half of her wished he’d find some other place to hang out, while the other half constantly monitored that back booth, noting his absence or celebrating his presence. When he wasn’t there, she wished he were, and when he was, she wished he’d leave and take the distraction with him. So she could just do this job, do it well, and get on with things.
But she couldn’t deny that he cut through the twitchy boredom of waiting tables, like a wire through wet clay.
She forced herself to focus on the tasks at hand, hanging the order for the kitchen and delivering the drinks for Booth 12, though she knew from past experience that she couldn’t pretend he wasn’t there. Even when she couldn’t see him, she registered him—how much space he took up in the diner, how he moved through the restaurant to his seat, his walk as assured as a swagger but so much more self-contained. Unhurried. Unapologetic.
His expression was grim—no smile for the hostess, only his cool pale-blue eyes absorbing everything, wary and watchful. In his jaw, she saw the knot of muscle that told her he never let his guard down.
At first she’d guessed he was a cop, maybe, or ex-army. He had that look.
He sat, as always, in the corner, his back angled so there were two walls behind him. He drew the blind—another habit of his—even though the sun was weak. He almost always sat alone, though once he’d had dinner with a man Lily knew, a grizzled, bearded grandfatherly man who was one of her brother-in-law’s fishing friends. That was a small town for you—if you didn’t know someone, you at least knew someone who knew him.
She’d been trying not to let herself wonder about him, about what it would be like to be with him, whether he could—and would—give her what she wanted and needed, because she was supposed to have shut down that whole line of thinking. But it wasn’t working so well. Her mind kept going there, even as she delivered the drinks to Booth 12 and took their orders. They made it easy for her—turkey dinners and burgers all around.
When she had a moment to peek again, he was drinking coffee, which was all he ever drank, and reading an impressively large book. And still, his thickly corded arms, the span of his shoulders, dwarfed the book and, somehow, the whole booth. Her gaze slipped over the tattoos that peeked out of the neck of his T-shirt. Black and flesh, geometric, triangles and diamonds—almost tribal-looking. His arms were tattooed, too—she’d seen enough to know that one arm was densely and elaborately drawn with evergreen forest.
He glanced up and caught her eye, quickly looked away.
Her heart pounded, as it always did when she caught him looking. A little thrill of speculation chased its tail in the pit of her gut.
I bet he’d be rough . . .

FRIENDS TO LOVERS by Christi Barth is an interesting Contemporary Romance set in Chicago. #3 in the “Aisle Bound” series, but can be read as a stand alone. This was my first read by this author, but it will not by my last.

Join Daphne Lovell,Wedding Planner and Gibson Moore, British expat, Hotel Manager on their journey to learning what is really important, and what love is truly all about.

I enjoyed the engaging, and sassy characters. What happens in the dark on New Year’s Eve, doesn’t always stay in the dark. As Daphne and Gib, soon learn. They have been friends for years, but one kiss is soon to change that by leaps and bounds. A fun, light-hearted story  which is fast paced and passion filled. Although, you may need some tissues along the way.

I did not feel lost by not having read the other two in the series first. Although, I intend to go back and read them too, someday. I don’t feel by reading “Friends to Lovers” first, the other stories was spoiled in anyway.

For a fun and thoroughly entertaining story of friendship and love, pick up “Friends to Lovers”. Well worth the time to read! A true romance story. Received for an honest review from the author.

{Sexy Romance Suspense author}

MBA&M: Please give our readers some insight into the life and mind of Amy Gamet?

AMY: I’m a stay-at-home mom to three young kids who keep me on my toes.  My life is pretty typical, and it’s safe to say I’ve completely lost my mind.

MBA&M: What drew you to write sexy romantic suspense?

AMY: Honestly, I chose romantic suspense over straight contemporary romance because I thought I would have a better chance of getting published.  Once I began the first book, however, I decided to self-publish instead of trying for a traditional contract.  My next series will be contemporary romance, though I do find myself throwing in suspense elements as well.

MBA&M: Why write a story with the main character in the Witness Protection Program? And where did you find your research material for your story?

AMY: My heroine’s husband is a pretty stable guy.  I needed to add an element of mystery without changing his character.  How do you make a nice guy into an interesting suspense character? Make sure a bunch of bad guys want him dead.

MBA&M: With organized crime, the FBI, Witness Protection, and the mafia, where how did you find the time to have a sexy, beautiful heroine placed in the mix?

What a thrill ride!

AMY: Gwen was the inspiration for the story; everything revolves around her.  She’s a quirky artist with a bit of psychic ability, and a fan favorite from the first book, Meant for Her.

MBA&M: How many books will be in the “Love and Danger” series, and whose story will be next? Inquiring minds want to know….

AMY: There’s one more book in the works.  It’s Becky’s story, the best friend of Julie from Meant for Her, and she’s falling hard for Colin’s brother Rowan from The One Who Got Away.  The book’s due to be released this Christmas.

MBA&M: Who was your favorite character to write in the “Love and Danger” series, why?

AMY: I loved Gwen, but Becky’s stolen my heart.  With her irreverent sense of humor and her in-your-face personality, she takes control of every situation.

MBA&M: If you could have dinner with any person, real or fiction, who would it be, where would you dine and why that person?

AMY: I’ve been staring at this question for far too long. The first person who comes to mind is my husband, because date-nights are always too few and far between. Oprah, though she’s not much of a fan of happily-ever-after books, it’s not every day you get a chance to eat sandwiches with Oprah. My grandmother, just to see her.  We’d eat some chicken cutlets and pork fried rice, LOL.  She used to have a container of pork fried rice from the Chinese food take-out place on the table at Christmas dinner.

MBA&M: Now, let’s play a little game….when I say certain words what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Mystery….fun….love…..suspense….food?

AMY: Mystery, solve…fun, play games… love, Brian… suspense, don’t keep me in… food, sure, why not!!

He’s finally going to have his chance to win her heart.

Gwen needs answers, but to find them she must go through Colin, her husband’s dear friend and the last person in the world she wants to see.  Before she married David, the chemistry between her and Colin was electric, causing a painful rift between David and Colin that lasted until David died.

As a U.S. Marshal, Colin was in charge of the investigation into David’s death, and he’s floored to discover he let the other man’s killer get away. In the shadow of Boston’s mafia underworld, Colin will seek the truth of what happened to David as he fights to win the love of the woman he could never forget.

Rachel PicMBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about yourself?

I am crazily married with four children. When kids aren’t around, I love to snowboard and play all kinds of sports, but writing is my passion. Interesting tidbit – the first boy I ever kissed in currently in jail for murder. Glad I dodged that bullet!

MBA&M: What was your inspiration behind writing “Fractured Soul”?

I knew after writing Fractured Light that there was more to Llona’s story. And the opportunity to write about an all girls school set in the forests of New York was to tempting to pass up. Fractured Soul is a lot darker than Fractured Light, and I dig that.

MBA&M: Have you always wanted to write Young Adult fiction and Fantasy?

I love the fantasy/paranormal genre. Anything can happen and as an author I like to exploit that fact. And I love writing for young adults. It’s a time where there’s many firsts: first love, first heartache, first driving, etc. This makes for great tension!

MBA&M: When the lights go out, what do you dream about? The rest of us probably dream so different than you do,we dream of fairy tales and stuff, what about you?

I’m not sure our dreams are much different from each other. I do know I have a very active imagination, often a dark one. My day dreams would probably scare most people. 🙂

MBA&M: Who was you favorite character to write about and why?

I love writing about Llona, especially in this book. I have a huge fascination with man’s “inner beast” and how one learns to overcome these personal demons. In fact, one of my  favorite stories is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

MBA&M: If “Fractured Soul” was to become a major motion picture or TV series, who what actore you have portray the characters?Fractured Soul

Llona would be played by Amanda Seyfried and Christian would be Zac Efron. Liam would be played by Ian Somerhalder.

MBA&M: If you could step into a book, what book, whether, one of your or someone else’s?

I would love to live in Harry Potter’s world. We would be besties of course, hanging out with Ron and Hermoine. And my wand would be uber cool and I’d know all sorts of magic.

MBA&M: As a child who was your favorite author, and what stories did you enjoy reading?

I loved reading Christopher Pike and the Encyclopedia Brown books.

MBA&M: What is next for you?

In addition to the release of Fractured Soul, I also have my humorous memoir titled CONFESSIONS OF A CEREAL MOTHER coming out in March. I also just completed a darker YA novel titled UNLEASHED. It’s a twist on the Jekyll and Hyde story. 🙂 And finally I’m currently writing book three, FRACTURED TRUTH.

MBA&M: How many books will be in “FRACTURED LIGHT” series?

Fractured SoulExcerpt

As soon as the Vyken appeared in the doorway, I tossed a ball hard. He dodged it by jumping up along the side of the wall, his nails and bare toes somehow finding a hold in the thin cracks of the wall. I threw another one, but he was already moving, scrambling alongside the stones like a spider. He was grinning.

I rolled away from the wall until I was in the middle of the room. I lost sight of him for just a fraction of a second, but that was enough. The Vyken was gone, or, I should say, hiding. He was still here. I could feel him. I looked up toward the rafters of the tower roof. It was pitch black.
At the bottom of the tower, I heard Christian begin to ascend the stairs. “I’m coming, Llona!” he yelled.

Still staring up, I created Light again in the palm of my hand and willed it to rise. The closer it got to the rafters the faster my heart beat. Sweat rolled down the small of my back.

Light began to fill dark spaces, exposing that which wished to remain hidden. My Vyken was there, but he wasn’t alone. Another sat crouched on a beam. Where his left eye should’ve been there was an empty hole.

I screamed when my Vyken dropped from the ceiling, extinguishing the light. He fell onto my stomach, pushing my shoulders into the floor. I tried to create Light, but it was as if he knew what I was going to do because his hands slipped up and pinned my wrists together. He bent forward and inhaled my skin. The warmth of his breath steamed my ear when he said, “I’m going to eat every part of you.”

Fractured SoulAbout Fractured Soul (sequel to Fractured Light)

Llona will do whatever it takes to protect her new found friends and home, but the dark plot threatening Lucent Academy, a school that’s supposed to be a safe place for Auras, may be too powerful for even Llona to defeat. This fast-paced tale of love, loyalty, and overcoming the darkness will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page!

What others are saying:

“I love these books! A kick-butt heroine and a hottie love interest, with a refreshingly original concept. Be prepared—once you start, these are hard to put down.”

Paula Cotton, book reviewer at

“Fractured Soul is a brilliant sequel, exceeding even the remarkable first book in the series. It will haunt your every waking moment between the times you’re reading it, and it will stay with you long after you’ve finished. It’s an amazingly well written and engrossing story that I highly recommend—after you’ve read the first one, of course.”

Blud and Magick

“Uncle Ed, I . . . I did that to them,” she stammered.

Edwin cocked an eyebrow. “Did what?”

She pointed to the two bodies, impaled by ice.

“You did?” His eyes became wide with concern.

Darla nodded, biting her lip. “Uncle Ed . . . what am I?”

Darla Summer was born from the ashes of the dead Shadow Lord, Remmus Alrad. This left the Seven Sages to deliberate what was to be done with her. Darius, the Sage who slew the Shadow Lord, wants her dead. Another Sage, Edwin, believes she deserves a chance to live. Edwin is granted permission to raise her in the human world under the condition that her true identity not be revealed until an appointed time.

Fourteen years later, Darla has no idea of her magical beginnings or her dark heritage. But when she meets Ash and Cirrus—teenage brothers who are not so human themselves—her world is turned upside down. An organization known as the Shadow Risers is out to collect her, claiming that she is the vessel of their Master, and Darla is forced to fight back. But how do you fight your greatest enemy when he’s living inside you?

Good morning, Deborah and welcome to My Book Addiction and More.

Thank you, I’m thrilled to be invited. Prosper in Love is my first book, so this is all new to me.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers a few tidbits about Deborah Michel?

DEBORAH: Well, I worked as a magazine writer for years, first in New York and then in Los Angeles, where I’m from—for magazines like House Beautiful, Self, Premiere, Los Angeles. Most of that time, I was also trying to write a novel, and there’s at least one that should never see the light of day. I have twin daughters who are about to graduate from high school, so maybe that goes a little way in explaining why finishing a novel took me so long.

MBA&M: Where did the idea Prosper In Love come from?

DEBORAH: I stole it! One of my favorite movies is The Awful Truth, a classic from the 40s with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. It’s about this perfect couple—it’s clear to everyone that they’re meant to be together, but by the second scene they’re heading toward divorce. When my husband and I were first married (we recently had our 20th anniversary) we’d have these big fights—actually, the same fight over and over. And I started wondering, what would happen if we went too far one night and didn’t make up the way we always do.

MBA&M: Which character in Prosper In Love do you feel you most identify with? Why?

DEBORAH: That’s an easy one: Lynn Prosper, the young wife. She and her family are based on my own flaws and experiences. Some of the fights Lynn and Jamie have—well, they’re familiar enough that rereading those pages makes me uncomfortable. At a certain point in the writing, though, I stopped thinking of her as “me.” She turned into her own separate person. The funny thing was, while writing, I started having a lot more insight and sympathy into the male character, Jamie. I don’t know if it’s coincidence or not, but my husband and I stopped having that same old fight, and I think I started trying to listen more carefully to what he was telling me when he was upset. I learned something about marriage through writing about it.

MBA&M: What do you hope your readers will gain by reading Prosper In Love?

DEBOROH: First, I simply hope they gain a few hours of pleasure. I hope reading the novel is a delightful experience, a fun summer read. I also hope it really gets readers thinking about love and marriage and the sort of choices we make. Part of Lynn’s problem at the beginning of the book is that she thinks she understands everything and knows the best answer. I think love is complicated and wonderful and often unexpected. Here’s the best compliment I’ve gotten so far: A friend of mine who’d been divorced and had kind of checked out of dating read Prosper in Love, and she said it made her feel like getting out there and giving dating another try. I can’t tell you how happy that made me.

MBA&M: What where the challenges in writing this genre?

DEBORAH: That’s a good question. I don’t know about the genre as a whole, but for me the big challenge with Prosper in Love was making two conflicting things believable: what drew my characters together, and what kept them apart. (I hope this isn’t a spoiler!) I went through lots of drafts trying to get that balance. Do you believe Lynn and Jamie Prosper as a couple? Do you believe that they’d stay apart? Can you imagine them with anyone else? I guess what I’m saying is that the biggest challenge in any sort of novel is maybe making the characters seem alive.

MBA&M: What are some of your most interesting quirks?

DEBORAH: Oh dear, I have a lot of quirks. I’m not sure any of them are very interesting. My main writing quirk—and it’s an unfortunate one—is that to get myself writing in the morning, I basically need to keep feeding myself to keep me at my desk. When I first started trying to write, it took something I really loved, like almond croissants or bear claws, do the trick, and I’d eat them very slowly in tiny bites. Now I drink pots and pots of tea all day. I switch types according to the time of day so I feel like I’m making progress.

MBA&M: What is the first book you remembering reading?

DEBORAH: That would be Dr. Seuss’s One Fish Two Fish—and what I actually remember is sitting next to my little sister who’s two years younger, and reading it aloud to her.

MBA&M: What is some of your life’s passion, other than writing, of course?

DEBORAH: Definitely reading! Sometimes I’m embarrassed that I really have no other hobbies. Well, I love movies, too, and art—but only looking at it. I’m hopeless as an artist. My best friend used to be an art historian and art critic, so I really learned a lot walking through museums and galleries with her. That’s probably how Lynn ended up in the art world. Like Lynn, I don’t cook and I love eating out in restaurants. My poor family, I’m not very domestic.

MBA&M: Do you have any regrets in your writing?

DEBORAH: I wish I’d worked harder and more productively early on. I was very scattered. Ironically, when my twins were born and I had hardly any time to myself, that’s when I really buckled down. Then again, those more leisurely years were also spent reading and sitting around talking to people or watching them, all of which feeds into writing.

MBA&M: What’s next for you?

DEBORAH: Another novel! I’m hard at work. Sadly, without breakfast pastries.

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where to find you and where Prosper In Love is available?

DEBORAH: Readers can find me at, and if they click on “Book Groups,” they’ll see that I’m available for call-ins or Skyping with book groups, schedule permitting. I’m really excited about this because I have all sorts of questions myself about love and marriage and what happens to my characters. I’d love the opportunity to hear what readers think. Prosper in Love can be found at Barnes and Noble, Books-a Million, Amazon, and your local independent bookseller.

Deborah, do you have anything else to add?

Just what a privilege it is to be here talking with you and your readers. I still haven’t gotten used to the idea that there are going to be people out there (who aren’t related to me) reading my novel. Thank you so much.

Thank you for visiting with us and our readers today!!What a pleasure and honor to have you with us and our readers today!!Good luck!!

Publication Date: May 1, 2012
A good marriage lasts forever…until it doesn’t.
From the start, Lynn and Jamie Prosper were one of those couples who seem meant to be—so content with each other that they barely notice the rest of the world nodding approvingly at their wedded bliss. But sometimes, even in the very best of marriages, all it takes is a mischievous outsider to bring the perfect couple toppling off the top of the wedding cake… True, Jamie has been working so hard and traveling so much as a young lawyer that he hardly has enough energy to show his devotion. Not that Lynn, a junior museum curator, has any reason to question it. But when Lynn’s old college friend turns up at a cocktail party, chinks in their marriage’s previously unassailable armor start to show. Suddenly, without meaning to, Lynn and Jamie have both acquired divorce lawyers. And those benevolent onlookers—meddling in-laws and competitive friends alike—eagerly bear witness to each new misstep. Is love really enough to make a marriage last?
