Good morning Jenna and welcome to My Book Addiction and More!

Thanks for having me!

MBA&M: Please give our readers some insight into the world of Jenna Petersen/Jess Michaels?

Well, I write erotic historical romance as Jess Michaels and have written historical romance as Jenna Petersen. I’ve been published by Avon Books and am now with Samhain Publishing. All my books are set in the Regency period.

MBA&M: What is your inspiration behind writing historical romance?

I just really like historical romance. I like playing against the rules of a time period and seeing the consequences to my characters. It’s just really interesting to me.

MBA&M: Where do you get your ideas for writing your stories from?

I’m never really sure how to answer this question. I just have ideas. I think once you’re open to them, you start to see them around you, I guess. Everyone has that “what if” capability, but most people don’t listen to it beyond their initial thought and then they set it aside. Writers just follow through more. LOL

MBA&M: If you could switch places with any character in one of your books,which one would it be and why?

I love my characters, but I don’t think I’d trade places with any of them. I like my own life. Plus, they’re always haunted by such drama. And they don’t have internet. Or movies. Or wear capris.

MBA&M: What do you feel the allure of historical romance is to readers?

It’s such an escape from the regular whatever. A ball, the gowns, the estates all have a really romantic quality to them. Oh and the titles. There’s a fairytale there and we’re all attracted to that.

MBA&M: Three words to describe your writing style?

sexy, dark, emotional — I love writing very dark, sexy stories.

MBA&M: What is your favorite genre to read?

In romance, it’s definitely historical romance. But I read pretty broadly and tend not to have as much time to read as I’d like. When I’m writing I read less.

MBA&M: How do you keep your personal life and your professional life separate?

It’s always a struggle to balance work and real life, but that’s true in any job. My computer is always there so I can always “work” in some capacity. As far as how I keep my life private, I don’t talk about certain aspects of it. What I believe or support or think or do isn’t really anyone’s business. Or interest. So I try to have a little that is just me.

MBA&M: Of all the books you have written,which is your favorite and why?

I can’t really pick favorites. I only write books I love. Books that readers seem to love most are LESSONS FROM A COURTESAN from my Jenna Petersen name and EVERYTHING FORBIDDEN as Jess Michaels, as well as my newest book, AN INTRODUCTION TO PLEASURE as Jess Michaels.

MBA&M: What is something you would like to accomplish in your writing career, you have not achieved as of yet?

In this career, authors have very little control over what happens. One way to keep myself sane is just to enjoy the ride. I have a year’s worth of books sold to publishers at present, so I have lots to write and share with readers. That’s just about all I can hope for. If anything else happens, that’s just a bonus.

MBA&M: Of all of your books, which do you feel readers should DEFINITELY read and why do you feel thus?

Right now I’d love for readers to check out AN INTRODUCTION TO PLEASURE. It’s my current release and I think a good way to introduce yourself to me and my sexy, sexy books. Once you’re done with that one, if you can’t wait for the second book in the Mistress Matchmaker series (FOR DESIRE ALONE, November), then go back and try EVERYTHING FORBIDDEN. It started my previous series. 🙂

MBA&M: Please tell our readers where find you and where your books are available?

My Avon books should be available at any bookstore (if they aren’t on the shelves, they can be ordered) and of coruse, online outlets. My new Samhain books are available as eBooks first, so online outlets like Amazon, BN, Kobo, etc. Next year they will start to go into print.
