WHAT A DEVILISH DUKE DESIRES by Vicky Dreiling (February 24, 2015; Forever Mass Market; $8.00)
WILL A FEW FLIRTATIOUS STEPS
Harry Norcliffe never wanted to inherit his beloved uncle’s title. The rigidity of the ton, the incessant reminders from his marriage-minded mama that he must settle down with a highborn lady and produce an heir and a spare: it’s all such a dreadful bore. So when his mother asks him to take part in a dancing competition, he patently refuses. The last thing he needs is another chore . . . until a beautiful, brilliant, delightfully tempting maid makes him rethink his position.
LEAD TO A SCANDALOUS SEDUCTION?
Most women would be over the moon to be pursued by a wickedly handsome-not to mention wealthy-duke like Norcliffe. But Lucy will not be any man’s trophy. She could use a friend, though, and what begins innocently soon ignites into desire. As Lucy tries to resist Harry’s scorching kisses, he makes an utterly irresistible offer. Enter the dance contest with him, and win a prize that could change her life forever . . . if falling in love doesn’t change it first.
About the author:
Vicky Dreiling is a confirmed historical romance junkie and Anglophile. Frequent business trips to the United Kingdom allowed her to indulge her passion for all things Regency England. Bath, Stonehenge, and Spencer House are among her favorite places. She is, however, truly sorry for accidentally setting off a security alarm in Windsor Castle. That unfortunate incident led her British colleagues to nickname her Trouble. When she’s not writing, Vicky enjoys reading, films, concerts, and, most of all, long lunches with friends. A native Texan, she holds degrees in English literature and marketing.

About the book…
The Notorious Flynns, Book 1
For years Serafina McPhee has been engaged to marry the heir to the Duke of Hartholm and for almost as long, she has been struggling to find a way out of that engagement. When he suddenly dies, she does not mourn but thrills at the idea that she will be free. Unfortunately, best laid plans go awry when the next in line for the title, her intended’s cousin, Raphael “Rafe” Flynn is forced to take over the engagement. But Serafina knows Rafe’s reputation as a libertine and wants nothing to do with him, either, even if he is devastatingly handsome.
She proposes an arrangement: she will agree to the marriage and provide Rafe with his heir and spare. Once she has done her duty, he will let her go. Rafe is intrigued both by her beauty and by her utter disgust with the idea of being his bride. Women normally fall at his feet, not cringe away from him. However, since their arranged marriage is not something he can escape, he agrees to her terms.
But when he finds out on their wedding night the truth about her torture at the hands of his predecessor, he finds himself driven not just to fulfill his bargain with his new bride, but to introduce her to desire. While they move closer together, surrendering to wicked pleasures, dangerous emotions may violate every agreement they’ve made.
Thanks so much for having me back April. I truly appreciate your enthusiasm and support.

MBA&M: How hard was it to write Contemporary romance instead of your usual Historical Romance?
VICTORIA: If you have asked me just two years ago I would have sworn that I would never write a contemporary romance. I honestly didn’t think I had the right writing voice for it. It might seem strange but my natural writing “voice” is quite formal. In college my lit professor describes my writing style as “scholarly” which is why I adapted so easily to historical fiction. Moving from historical fiction to historical romance was actually a pretty big transition for me but I was able to adapt given that I stayed in my beloved Georgian era, where everyday speech was very formal.
My greatest fear in taking a two and a half century leap into contemporary romance was that my characters would sound all wrong. As it turns out, my worries were unfounded. Readers who know my work are already aware that my historical romances are character driven and dialogue heavy. This is even truer of my contemporary stories. Although it took a while for me to “find” my story, once my characters came to life, I simply had to move out of the way and let them do the talking.
SLOW HAND is fun and flirty and loaded with innuendo! I loved writing the dialogue between Wade and Nikki. One of my favorite scenes is when she gets a bit tipsy after visiting the funeral home. Here’s a little teaser!
SLOW HAND mini- excerpt:
Holy shit. She’d given him a hard-on with a simple question. It wasn’t the wording as much as the way she’d posed it—with a challenge. Her body language said gimme what you got, cowboy, loud and clear. He suspected the tequila had a lot to do with it, but the hungry look in her eyes made him want to give her hard, fast, and furious right there on the table.
It was definitely time to go.
“Are you ready, Nicole?” he asked, already grabbing his hat.
“What’s your hurry, cowboy?” She gave him a sloppy grin that pricked his conscience.
He hadn’t set out to get her drunk. That was her doing, but he certainly hadn’t discouraged it either. “C’mon.” He took her by the arm and gently coaxed her from her seat. “You’ve had enough for one night. I’m taking you home.”
“Home?” She cocked her head at him. “Home where? If you think you’re gonna sweet talk my panties off, you got another think coming, Wade. I already told you how I feel and you haven’t changed my mind. No indeed-y. I got your number.”
“Do you now?” He threw some money on the table and guided her to the door.
“Yup. Sure do, after seeing how those waitresses were all eyeballing you like a herd of hungry sows waiting at the feeding trough.”
“A herd of sows? That’s not a pretty picture you paint.”
She gazed up at him in earnest. “I was simply making an ob-obzervation, Wade.”
“Sure you were.”
He let her babble on until they got to the truck, where he was struck by an overwhelming impulse to silence her—with his mouth. He managed to restrain the urge until he reached around her for the door and found himself thigh to thigh with Nikki, her breasts pushing against his chest and her arms entwined around his neck. She looked up at him all soft and warm and welcoming.
Damn, but it was just too much!
He pinned her to the door, expecting at least some token resistance after the way she’d been sounding off, but instead, she laced her fingers in his hair, pulled his face down to hers, and then licked his chin! He jerked his head back “What the hell was that?”
She giggled drunkenly. “That dimple of yours is driving me crazy. I’ve been dying to do that since I first saw you.”
“Oh yeah?” He grinned back at her. “You can lick any part of me you like, darlin’, as long as you let me reciprocate in kind.”

The Men of Fortune Series by Amber Lin:
It was warm in the room. Too warm. The blankets were suffocating, and someone had built a strong fire. She could smell the coal.
Coal. There was something about coal, but she couldn’t remember what. Her head felt foggy, as if filled with water, her thoughts adrift in the murky dark. There was something important she had to remember. Floating just beyond her grasp.
Cuts and bruises all over her body made themselves known as she came awake, as if they awoke too, one by one. Her palms burned, as though she’d fallen and scraped them. Her ankle throbbed—possibly she’d twisted it. Her side ached. What had happened to her?
If she held herself very still, the pain dulled to a muffled roar, just quiet enough that she could focus on other things.
Such as where she was.
And who she was.
Her eyes felt glued shut. She opened them by force of will and stared at a plain drapery striped with light and dark blue. Pretty; serviceable. She was almost sure she’d never seen it before. Almost, because she couldn’t remember what she had seen before. She could only feel certain she hadn’t.
The furniture looked heavy. Good quality. Not ornate.
That detail seemed meaningful to her. Not ornate. As if she had once lived somewhere that was ornate—with fancy tapestries and delicately carved furnishings. Somewhere much colder than here.
A faint memory of freezing water and sinewy shadows came to her, tickling her memory. Sinking, drowning. But nothing moved beneath her now, and her throat felt utterly dry. If she’d been in the water at some point, she was most definitely on land now.
She looked around, letting her gaze sweep the cozy room before landing on a large wooden chair. More to the point, the man sleeping in the chair.
His legs were spread wide—bracing himself, even in sleep. His shoulders were well above the back of the chair, his head leaning against the wall behind. He seemed too large for the furniture, like a grown man sitting on a child’s rocker in a nursery. Only, this chair was quite average-sized.
She had a sense of familiarity, of having seen him before. Which was strange, because she didn’t feel like the sort of woman acquainted with pirates.
And this man was most definitely a pirate.
He wore no jacket. She felt faintly scandalized, except he was also alone in the room with her. He was alone in the room with her, which was far worse than being in shirtsleeves. And if that weren’t shocking enough, the ties at his collar hung loose, baring a portion of his chest. Tanned. Sprinkled with dark hair. And wholly inappropriate for her to see.
She looked away—and right into his eyes. He was awake now. He’d been watching her examine him.
“Who are you?” Her voice came out low and rough. What had she been doing last night to make her voice so raw?
And had she been doing it with him?
The pirate stretched slowly, wincing as his body straightened into order. She had the sense he was rolling himself back up, as if he were a tree he had to trim just to stand upright.
“You asked me the same question last night,” he remarked.
His voice vibrated with sarcasm. He didn’t sound happy to greet her this morning. And, in fact, her sense of familiarity was completely misplaced if she’d asked for his name just last night.
“What did you answer?” she asked.
A glimmer of humor shone from his eyes before they went black again. Black like his hair. Black like the sea. He smiled, and the smile was black, too—with irony and annoyance. “I didn’t,” he said. “I’m not in the habit of explaining myself to thieves.”
